I told my boss right away because we were friends outside of work. I didn't tell anyone else until around 16 weeks I think. It just felt very personal to share at work although most people were excited for me. I told HR somewhere around the middle I guess because another girl was pregnant and set up a meeting she included me on. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have told them until a few months before I was due.

This makes me think if I got pregnant again, I would try to hide it as long as possible at my current job because no one I work with has kids and I just don't feel like it's a super family friendly environment. So I'd be businesslike about it and let them know in plenty of time to make arrangements.. My bosses don't work in my office and the people I work with everyday are young and probably wouldn't notice

I told two work friends at 12 weeks. We had been sharing a lot (both of their pregnancies, etc).

I told my boss in person at 15 weeks. I was only in the office once per week so it wasn't hard to hide.

For my 1st and 2nd pregnancy I told at 8 weeks after my 1st appointment. I show early so I wouldn't have been able to hide it too much longer. I'm ok with sharing early.

I'm 6 weeks with #3 and haven't told my boss yet. I'm waiting until my doctors appointment in two weeks.

First pregnancy - Didn't announce, loss at 10 weeks. I told my two supervisors about the loss though because I couldn't hide how upset I was and they noticed.

2nd - Waited until after successful NT scan plus maybe another week. I think it was 13 weeks.

3rd - Haven't told yet (at 8 weeks), waiting for NT and materniti21 tests to be done at 12 weeks. However I am already starting to show so I may have to tell my immediate boss sooner.

16 weeks with DD1 and 22 weeks with DD2. Both times, I only told one person who I am really close to at work before I told my boss. In general, I don't think there is a rush, but it sounds like a lot of people you work with (customers, couple coworkers) already know so there is a higher chance it could get back to your boss.

If you have no reason to think there will be a negative reaction, you should be fine telling soon. Neither of mine were super well received by childless female bosses, so I waited as long as possible (especially past review time!).

I told at 12 weeks after I shared with family.

Around 11w after my NT scan results. The results come back within a week. I did tell some close friends at work beforehand though. I socially told people around 16w.

I told them at 13 weeks. I wanted to wait till the end of the first trimester.

I think 8 weeks? I wasn't planning to, but I was so nauseous all day long, and it happened to be reviews, and my boss asked me why I've appeared unhappy at work, so I had to tell him!

At 7-8 weeks I told my immediate supervisor and 2 co-workers, my morning sickness was pretty non-stop; and people were getting concerned. My 2 co-workers were able to cover for me until I told everyone around 12-13 weeks.

1st pregnancy- didn't tell my boss until after we lost it because I needed to take time off for a D&C.
2nd pregnancy- around 13 weeks
3rd pregnancy- I'm relatively new at this company, so I went ahead and told at 11 weeks so my boss could plan for my leave.

First pregnancy - told just my immediate boss at 10 weeks because my morning/all day sickness was so bad and I thought the stomach bug excuse was starting to sound fishy. I asked him to keep it to himself though, and didn't tell the rest of my team until maybe 18 or so weeks (when I thought I was starting to show).

Second pregnancy, morning sickness wasn't as bad, so waited until I was showing, which was earlier...maybe 15 or 16 weeks.

First - eight weeks. My job was very physical and sometimes around hazardous materials, so I asked to not be assigned to those jobs.

Second - 16 weeks. I had a mostly desk job by then, and there were some scares at the start so I wanted to wait. Plus I was worried how my boss would react... it was bad enough getting my career back in gear after the first time.

I was almost 8 weeks when I told everyone. I work for such a small company that if something were to go wrong, everyone would know anyway. So, I spilled the beans

I told my boss at 5 weeks because I was sick as a dog, it was the busiest time of year at work, and if I had another MC I was going to just be MIA for a while. It was really great because everyone at work was super understanding and helpful.

With DD1 I had miscarried the pregnancy immediately before her so I waited until 12-13 weeks to tell the firm I was with because the economy was in good shape at the time (early 2012) and I was in a key position where I wouldn't be on the short list to end up on the lay-off chopping block if the market took a drastic turn. If either of those factors had been different I would've waited longer.

A girlfriend of mine (who just had her baby this month) came out to her accounting firm at 12 weeks while the oil and gas fall-out was rough here in our neck of Canada- unsurprisingly they laid her off less than a week later in their first round of down-sizing and because she couldn't PROVE being pregnant put her on the block she was SOL and subsequently couldn't find any other employment in the financial sector her entire pregnancy.

So in short I think the timing of your announcement needs to account for more than your gestation-I'm not sure about America but Canada is in a recession and I would be hesitant to say anything before I absolutely HAD to. Good luck!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: No but she had her 600 hours banked thankfully so she was able to claim her year's paid maternity leave anyway (though earlier than she ideally would've wanted to so she'll have to go back to work when baby girl is under one). It was a really rough situation because her husband was also laid off within a week or two or her and they are both still out of work because the economy in Alberta has tanked.

I'm sure your announcement will go fine by the by, I didn't want to scare you, sorry! Just wanted to share why it can be advantageous to wait, especially if you're Canadian or directly linked to oil and gas atm.
