@anniegurumi: I read Baby 411 last time. I have a sleep book by Ferber but I can't get into it....hopefully I never have to read it!

@autumnlove: hahaha I hope not too!

I had an appointment yesterday with my OB's Physician's Assistant. She said the measurements for my NT scan were normal and they are just waiting for the bloodwork to come back. She listened to the baby's heart and it was at 161. Next OB appointment will be in 4 weeks!

@autumnlove: Yay on the NT Scan results!!!!!

Sooo we went in yesterday for DH's cystic fibrosis screen (I'm a carrier), and while we were there, the counselor said she could just do my Materni-T21 test now instead of waiting for the NT scan in 2 weeks!!! Yippeee!! So we'll know definitively if baby has trisomy 13, 18, or 21 before we even have our scan. So exciting. They'll also know the gender but I think DH has talked me into going Team Green.

Next scan 12 weeks from today. I'm 10w3d. My pants are getting TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT today too, anyone already using a bellaband or maternity pants?!

@JoJoGirl: You could know the gender at 10W?! I didn't know that was possible! Team green though, you guys are strong!!

My pants don't seem to be changing, but the ones I generally wear sit a little higher anyway, so I think it may take a while.

My NT scan and first ultrasound is next Wed (when I'll be 12W!). I am of course worried that somethings gone wrong that I just don't know about yet, but I'm also very excited!

@Mrs. Lovejoy: Only because we're having genetic testing done, so they can tell the gender from that!

So we wound up going to another hospital closer by for our NT scan yesterday (insurance says that it should be covered the same, but I'm a little worried that it won't be). I was having a little bit of spotting--I've spotted throughout but mostly very brown and this was reddish--and I was really worried. Not to mention I had no idea when we'd be able to get to the other hospital or when their offices would reopen--things are CRAZY here in NY.

But, long story short, everything looked great--my placenta is low-lying, which may cause spotting, but it's nothing to worry about at this point, or probably ever, as it will probably correct itself. The technician was a little eccentric and probably said more than she should have, but it was nice to hear that all the measurements looked right to her. I'm feeling much better.

@jojogirl: I feel large, but everything is still fitting fine. it's a question of how it LOOKS (i.e. not that great).

Are people waiting til 14 weeks to tell work, extended family, non-besties, etc.?

How's everyone doing?! Are next appointment is 11/7. I will be 14w6d, hubby and I are so anxious to find out what lo is, and we are seriously contemplating asking at our appointment. Do we just come out and ask for an elective u/s? Did anyone else find out earlier in previous pregnancies? If so how did you approach it?

  9. Mrs. Lovejoy

    clementine / 972 posts

@mjane: so glad to hear everything is good with LO!! That must have been scary, but I'm sure you're relieved to hear things are well

@Cupcake: We have our next appointment on the same day (we'll be 12W)! I'm very excited to hear the heartbeat or potentially see the baby. I haven't had anything yet, so it will be a relief.

I haven't had a previous pregnancy, but goodness I want to know the gender, so yeah I would probably ask if it was possible.

@mjane: So glad everything looks good!!!

@Cupcake: Our NT scan is 11/13, I'll be 12w3d. We could find out gender in the next couple of days though (!!) because of the M21 test I had run on Monday. DH wants to go Team Green though.

@Mrs. Lovejoy: Yay, good luck at the appointment!!!

    Hi ladies, just checking in!

@JoJoGirl: @Mrs. Lovejoy: @mjane: I definitely feel like my shape is changing a little bit - though I'm sure it's something only I can notice. Certain pants are uncomfortable, especially by the end of the day. I feel so overwhelmed at the thought of planning a maternity wardrobe though, I don't know what to do!

I can't believe some of you are getting close to knowing gender ! Being at the end of May (or June 1) I have a ways to go...

As for me, I'm feeling so much better! I really only had weeks 6-8 of feeling terrible, Now at 10 I'm still tired but the nausea is so much less terrible. It's awesome.

Last night was the first time I looked at myself in the mirror in just bra + undies and thought, holy hell, there's no way that woman isn't pregnant. A very weird moment.

  13. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@mjane: How far along are you again? I definitely don't look pregnant without any clothes on... I feel like the bloat/belly is more obvious when I have tight pants or elastic cutting me off at the belly and giving me a muffin top! Not a good look!

  14. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@Revel: I'm not that far behind you! Due May 25. The only reason we can know gender now is because we had super early genetic testing done @ 10 weeks.

I absolutely look pregnant!! All the ladies at work keep insisting that there must be 2 cooking in there!

  16. mjane

    apricot / 444 posts

@jojogirl: 12 weeks today according to my revised due date (must have ovulated late). And last night was def the first time I saw it that way... And while I'm a small person, I have pretty lame abs so that might have something to do with it.

But, to be fair, I'm also stuck at home with friends (Sandy cancelled my work & classes and our friends came here since they are without power) and so have been eating tacos, pie, donuts, cookies, cheese, pasta, soup after soup after soup... you get the idea. What else is there to do?!? Gotta support local businesses!

    @cupcake: you look great!

  17. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@mjane: Hahahahah I did exactly the same during Sandy - cooked, baked, and ate all day!

@Cupcake: WOW!!! You do look amazing!!! Is this your first? Crikey I can't believe how differently everyone's bumps show up. I'm 10w6d, I think 2 weeks behind you? - I should post a picture...

  18. Revel

    pear / 1563 posts

@JoJoGirl: That's right! I totally spaced that it was your genetic testing that would allow you to find out earlier if you all were not team green.

    @Cupcake: You look great!

@mjane: That sounds like a totally surreal moment - I'm not sure how I'll feel when I get there!

  19. Cupcake

    @JoJoGirl: first baby! In 14w 2d today.

  20. JoJoGirl

@Cupcake: Okay so you're 3.5 weeks further along than me!!! That makes more sense.

  21. mjane

    apricot / 444 posts

@revel: surreal is exactly what it was. I almost cried. And I have *no idea* if those would have been tears of happiness or sadness.

  22. Mrs. Lovejoy

    clementine / 972 posts

@Cupcake: such an adorable bump!! How exciting!

Can't wait to have one (though I'm ok if it slooowly grows after it shows). I'm 11W5D and feel like I just barely have a bump.. Really only after a big dinner

How are you guys all doing / feeling? I know a lot of us are almost rounding out our first trimester or already in to our second - how crazy is that?! Do you guys feel like its going slow, or fast now?

  23. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@Mrs. Lovejoy: Me too!!! 11w2d here and DH keeps making fun of me for sending weekly photos to my parents - he's like "um honey, you're not showing.....". I KNOW! But my waist has expanded like 2 inches, so that's something

I cannot BELIEVE we'll be able to start telling more people next week if the NT scan goes well. It's definitely going faster now! We're hoping to buy plane tickets this week for the babymoon but that's the only thing we've planned so far. Haha.

  24. Mrs. Lovejoy

    clementine / 972 posts

@JoJoGirl: I know!! I can't wait. We've told a few more people than I would have liked (probably 10 - 15 people including family), and my husband has no problem telling more. I just keep insisting we wait just 2 more days until the scan to make sure we're all good! I just don't want to make it public to the world if something would happen. I have no problem telling close friends.

  25. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@Mrs. Lovejoy: OMG me too. I've basically told everyone I've seen in person, which is a lot more than I would've thought. Your NT scan is in 2 days?!?! How exciting!!

  26. Mrs. Lovejoy

    clementine / 972 posts

@JoJoGirl: haha I completely understand. Yes, I think so! Honestly, I'm a little confused by what the midwife shared at my 8W appointment. She basically said that if I chose to do the NT that it could happen at my next apt. (which is in 2 days), but I don't know if I was supposed to call and confirm that I was doing it or let them know?

Do you guys know if NT scans are usually around 12 weeks?

  27. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@Mrs. Lovejoy: Yes they are usually around 12 weeks, but there is a cutoff for how early you can do it, so I'd call and ask. Also it involves an u/s and blood test so you likely need to let them know ahead of time you plan to do it!

ETA looks like you do them between 11 and 14 weeks.

  28. Mrs. Lovejoy

    clementine / 972 posts

@JoJoGirl: I just called and I'm so glad I did! Thanks for the advice! Apparently, I do have to schedule an ultrasound (at a different location), so I definitely wouldn't have gotten one if I wouldn't have called. I guess I have to call back tomorrow to schedule. Whew, I thought this would be a clearer process, but that's ok - I'll just call more often - haha!

@Mrs. Lovejoy: also, regarding the NT scan; not sure if all places do it this way, but where I'm getting it you actually come in a week before your scan to do the bloodwork portion. that way when you come in a week later for your scan, they can calculate your risk on the spot. otherwise you have to wait another few days to a week to get the results. might be worthwhile to ask!

    clementine / 972 posts

@mintmercury: that's so good to know! While I love the midwives at this practice, I'm getting a little frustrated they didn't clearly explain this stuff. They are just a little too laid back for my style!

@Mrs. Lovejoy: yeah, i totally wanted to go with a midwifery practice, but am learning i am WAY too type A/nervous to have done that. i hope your NT scan goes well!

Hi May Mommas! I've been MIA for a while--new job plus grad school plus first tri exhaustion, and I've been off the radar! I hope everyone is doing well and feeling great. I am finally starting to be interested in food again--thank goodness. I love to cook and I was really missing that, but nothing ever sounded appealing so DH was left to fend for himself for a few weeks. He did a darn good job and is now going to be in charge of dinner more often!

Baby seems to be doing well--had a routine OB appointment at 10 weeks and got to see the LO via an abdominal ultrasound--I didn't need one, but she had the time and offered so I gladly accepted! Next appointment is next Thursday for our NT scan at 13 weeks...I know that is WAY too early for gender, right? Anyone have gut feelings either way?

By now most of our friends and family know the news and it is really nice to have it out in the open.

  34. Mrs. Lovejoy

    clementine / 972 posts

@maybebaby: so glad you are starting to feel better! Very exciting to have your NT scan soon! It is way to early for gender for most of us, but we've had a gut feeling we'd have a girl (even before we were pregnant), so we'll see! Do you have a feeling either way?

Wanted to follow up.... I called our office to see if we could schedule an u/s at our next appointment, to see if we could find out what baby is. She basically made me feel like a ding dong and was like that is wayyyyy to early for that. I'll be 15 weeks! We have to wait until 12/5 to find out boo.

  36. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@Cupcake: Yes, you usually can't see gender until the 20 week anatomy scan

Hey guys update! My early genetic testing came back (MaterniT21 test) - baby is negative for trisomy 13, 18, and 21! Yipee!!!!! Next is the NT scan on Tuesday!

    @Cupcake: good luck today!

I'm starting to get antsy for my next appointment (Nov 15) and NT scan (Nov 16). Do you think my midwife will try to hear the heartbeat with the doppler next Thursday? I'll be 11w5d.
