@Silva: I have noticed that when I get upset about something I have a hard time letting go and moving on (compared to when I'm not pregnant). This weekend DH and I had a bit of an argument and I ran upstairs and cried uncontrollably for 45 minutes. If I hadn't been pregnant, I'm guessing I would have cried for about 5 minutes, if at all. I also notice that work stress/politics is bothering me a lot more than usual. It feels like everything is heightened and not necessarily in a good way.

@jaguar: You look so pretty! Love that colour on you and love your baby bump

@sslm: I've been feeling movement since early last week (I'm 18w1d today). Still just flutters, but feeling them more regularly this week than last. I think my kitty knows there's something going on in there, because lately he likes to lay in my lap and rest his ear right on my belly

@Pumpkinspice: Wow! Sounds like you and baby are doing great! Will be very exciting to find out if you're Team Pink or Team Blue. Do you have a feeling one way or the other?

AFM, nothing too exciting to report. Feeling baby move more regularly. Can't wait until the movement is strong enough for DH to feel. I have my first midwife appointment this afternoon and am very excited to meet my midwife and start planning for baby's arrival.

DH and I decided over the weekend not to go ahead with the doula with whom we'd met (we hadn't signed the contract yet). DH wasn't comfortable with some of the language she'd used to describe his role vs. her role. Turns out DH wants to be very involved as my primary labour support and I think that's very sweet I was wary of not going ahead with the doula at first, but now I'm convinced we made the right decision - especially after I sent her a very nice email outlining our reasons for not proceeding and thanking her for her time.....and then never heard anything back from her.

@hergreenapples: We want a boy since we already have two girls but I am carrying very high and almost everyone is now saying it's a girl so who knows lol This pregnancy is by far the most different tho.

@Pumpkinspice: I have read such conflicting things about the old wives tales re: carrying high/low. On HB I've heard people say that carrying high = girl, but all the online gender prediction quizzes I took said carrying low = girl. I'm confused!

@Pumpkinspice: I'm carrying pretty low. Bub is resting under my belly button and I'm having a girl. My friend who just gave birth carried super high and it was a boy so who knows!

I'm carrying high but I think it's coincidental. I'm actually surprised at how firm my stomach is 4" above my belly button! But I know she is on my bladder. Just kinda weird that she can be so low, yet my uterus is sticking out way high.

@blackbird: Will be so exciting when you start feeling movements - you're so far ahead, I can't wait for that to happen!
@Pumpkinspice: Wonderful news! I have my 19 week level II/morphology ultrasound the 26th - so we'll be nice and close together.
@Mrs. Blue: Thank you love! x
@hergreenapples: Thank you so much, I love the colour but it's hard getting me out of blacks and neutrals. I'm glad you went with your gut - and that hubby can be involved, and WANTS to be. Sounds like you're a great pair.

As for carrying high/low, baby is still VERY low for me (when I get the doppler out, she's down near pelvic bone - even now at 16.5 weeks!)

    @Mrs. Blue: @hergreenapples:

Thanks for sharing guys. I am facilitating a prenatal attachment group for some clients at work (I'm a therapist at a residential facility), and so I've been doing lots of reading about stress in utero that kind of freaked me out. But I try to keep it all in perspective, too! Its reassuring to know that other people are having similar experiences.
Frustrating to feel out of control of my emotions, though!

Still waiting for movement... 16 w and 2d now, so its still early.
Having more and more trouble finding clothes to wear in the morning. I think I need to go get some pants this weekend.

Have you guys bought much stuff yet? We have been working on our registry, but there are some things, like the Bob stroller, the co-sleeper, and the Bjorn bouncer seat that I'm going to try to buy on Craigslist/our local consignment shop. I found a good deal on the bouncer seat and the stroller this morning, but I told myself I'd wait until after Thanksgiving to buy stuff!

@jaguar: Sounds like we're carrying very similarly. At my 16 week appointment the heart beat was way down low (right about my pubic bone). Yesterday (18w1d) at my first appointment with the midwife it was much higher and apparently my uterus is now sitting right below my belly button. Crazy how quickly our bodies and babies change and grow!

    @AprilFool: Eek! So exciting!

@Silva: We haven't bought anything for baby yet! I guess we should get on that. DH is in the middle of possibly changing jobs so all our focus has been on the negotiation process. I feel like once that is done we'll be able to focus more on baby. I learned about Lucie's List on HB and so far it has been super helpful in terms of what we need/don't need.

Haven't bought SQUAT yet, lol. We're registering next month, though. I'm starting to feel like we're behind, but I have a few friends who say that once they got rolling, it all fell into place.

  13. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

We've bought furniture, but that's it.

I was trying to work on our registry yesterday, but I get so stressed out and just end up stopping. Doing a baby registry makes me feel get so freaked out that I'm going to make the "wrong" choice and mess up my babies forever! I know that's not true, but I seriously had to stop working on the registry because I couldn't figure out which bottles to pick. Oy! I miss wedding registry, where it was just about our own style and wants!

@Mrs. Blue: Join Lucie's List if you haven't already. In their first email they send you a registry cheat sheet with the products - and specific brands - that they recommend based on their research.

    I haven't bought much, really.

I got a second hand Baby Bjorn carrier for a REALLY good price from a friend, so that's sitting in the nursery room - and a baby monitor set, and a few onesies... that's pretty much it.

  16. Silva

Well, I broke down and bought a used bjorn babysitter balance seat today on craigslist (going to get it after work). Its in perfect condition, and comes with the toy bar, for 100.00. I've seen them around here for 80.00 before, but they weren't as nice as this one, so I'm pretty happy about it.

I forgot to add that I have bought some small stuff- a few outfits (we have a great kids consignment store, and when I'm in the area I check out their used Zutano collection- some of the stuff is basically brand new and only 6.00!). I also bought the fabric that I'm using to sew some of the nursery things (changing pad cover, crib skirt, etc).
My mom refinished a dresser/changing table for us, and I think is bringing that up here this weekend.

I went shopping for the first time today - mostly for clothes. Since most people are going to go OMGNUTSPINK I wanted some neutrals for baby girl. I'm in love with the grey! My grey/stars Ergo carrier also finally arrived.

Jag that stuff is all so cute!

I'm 20 weeks today and have been feeling consistent movement for about 4 days now. It started out more like twitches but now it does feel like bubbles, I guess. It's hard to describe! I can see how people think it feels like gas, though!

@jaguar: Such cuteness! I love neutrals like gray and brown for boys and girls and it's a nice break from all the pink/blue. So cute! Where did you go for the clothes?

  22. shinystraps

    apricot / 348 posts

@blackbird: Yay for movement! We were laughing last night because baby was moving around like crazy and DH was pressing slightly to be able to feel it. Baby dove for "deeper waters" and didn't start moving again until 4:30am which woke me up... now DH is banned from pissing the baby off ever again!

@bpaig: Most of our department stores here are pretty good for baby clothes. (I avoid the big names.) I shop at Big W, Best and Less, Target.

Although I live in Australia, so I don't think you guys have those stores - like we don't have your awesome Targets or Walmarts or anything like that. (Your Target kicks our Target's butt.)

@jaguar: Awww, so much cute stuff!!!!!

Today we bought a new dresser for our room so we could move our old one into the nursery!! So exciting!!! We moved everything non-baby related out of the room, so now it's just the dresser, the changing pad, and a couple of containers of clothes my sister lent us. Everything is seeming more real

We find out the sex tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!! Then I will do some shopping for sure.

I am so glad I had my scan early. Though I'll definitely be confirming in two weeks time at the 19 week scan.

@blackbird: Yay for feeling movement! DH desperately wants to know what it feels like and I've had such a hard time describing it. After feeling more movement last night and then thinking about it, I told him that (for me, at least) it feels like when you have an involuntary muscle spasm....but inside my stomach.

@jaguar: @autumnlove: @Jennimac: @bpaig: @hergreenapples: thanks girls!!! I will be sure to keep everyone posted! It's not until the end of their day at 3:20, so another 6 hours-ish. Time is going so slowly!!

  32. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@hergreenapples, ditto on the involuntary muscle spasm. That's definitely what it feels like to me! In fact, I told DH last night that it was kind of like that "uh oh" feeling before you get the flu, except not scary and not so intense. Just that sort of...involuntary feeling of your stomach/bowels doing something they shouldn't be doing. It's in the same area, at least
