Thanks everyone! We are super excited although it was weird when she told us... I was just happy to be right! haha

I was really glad to see she was doing well since I haven't felt her move yet which sent me into a panic last week and was part of the reason I booked the scan.

@sslm: hearing the heartbeat is awesome!

@Mrs. Blue: I am actually going to do some celebratory shopping today now that I know. Did you get your cribs??

@jaguar: I am so jealous you are giving up work at the end of the year. I will be working till near the end I think. Ready to give it up now if I could. haha

@autumnlove: sounds like a good appt and yay for good NT news.

@jaguar: I was going to say the same thing about the HB/WB gender lists!

Does anyone feel like their bump isn't getting bigger? I wish I could just get an actual bump and stop looking like I ate too many donuts! I'm 17w1d today, but I'm also quite tall, so I wonder if that means that it will take longer for me to really show. Hmph.

  12. shinystraps

    apricot / 348 posts

@hergreenapples: I think I "grow" during the day every day - I start out looking like I ate a few donuts and end up looking like I ate a small basketball. I'm short though, so I think I started bumping out earlier? I will also admit that I packed on pounds in the beginning but thankfully it seems to have slowed down...

  13. heartonastring

    pomegranate / 3895 posts

@bpaig: Yes, it definitely gets bigger over the course of the day! Much like you, I gained the most early on...I blame all the carbs I stuffed in my face to stave off m/s! I gained the most between weeks 4 and 8 and my weight gain has been slower since then (up 8.5-ish lbs at my 16 week appointment).

  14. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@bpaig: @hergreenapples: I have a theory that how early you show has more to do with how long your torso is versus your height. I'm 5'7", which I think is taller than average for girls, but my torso is super, super short. I'm all legs, so there isn't much room for the baby to grow except out.. Therefore, I attribute that to my early bumpage. Well, and the whole two babies thing.

  15. sslm

    cantaloupe / 6397 posts

@Mrs. Blue: I thought that too but all of my height (I'm 5'11") is in my torso. I didn't expect to be showing this early at all but I definitely am bc twice now I've been offered a seat on the bus!!!

I definitely get bigger throughout the day too! I look wayyyy bigger in the evening.

  16. Silva

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@hergreenapples: Definitely bigger by the end of the day! I'm 15 weeks now, and my husband and I noticed a definite change this week. Its more rounded in my pelvis area, so a longer curve up to my belly button. I'm exclusively in maternity clothes (well, stretchy leggings, mostly) at this point.
Some friends noticed a bump this past weekend, too.

I am 5'5" and fairly fit, but I think the reason its showing more is because of a short torso- I agree with Mrs. Blue on that one.

  17. heartonastring

    pomegranate / 3895 posts

    @Silva: @sslm: @bpaig: I'm 5'10" with a long-ish torso.

Here I am at 15-ish weeks and 16-ish weeks (haven't taken one this week yet, but I'm pretty sure there isn't much difference).

Did any of you ladies stop 'feeling' pregnant once you got a couple weeks into your second trimester? Like I swear I can suck in most of my 'bump' and I haven't felt anymore flutters (which I know it's still really too early for) but it's weirding me out a little.

  22. heartonastring

    pomegranate / 3895 posts

@bpaig: @Silva: @blackbird: Thank you. You ladies are very sweet I imagine that some time in the not too distant future I will look back at my current bump and think I was crazy for not enjoying it before I get massively large!

  23. shinystraps

    apricot / 348 posts

@Pumpkinspice: I feel this way. The fatigue has gotten a little better (I actually stayed up until 10pm last night!!) and my stomach just in general feels better - no nausea, fewer stretching pains. I keep reminding myself that in a few months, I'll be huge and uncomfortable and I should enjoy it now! But I agree, it is a little unsettling.

  24. Crisark

    pomegranate / 3398 posts

@bpaig: I'm so glad I'm not alone!!! I know it's silly but with them not getting the heart beat with the doppler at 12 weeks I've been paranoid. Even though I've been told by like everyone (including 3 dr's lol) that 12 weeks is the absolute earliest you can hear it that way and if you are heavier it can take longer. But, I'm a spaz lol

  25. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@pumpkinspice, I felt like that once the bloating went away and I felt better, but I'm almost 19 weeks now and there's denying that I'm pregnant. I feel it, I look it, and I get more stretching pain and crampy type feelings now than I used to. So it was a very short lived feeling for me

  26. Crisark

    pomegranate / 3398 posts

@blackbird: lol I know I am and I know all is fine but that small part of me is like hey wait a minute lol . I mean (TMI) But I had the want and energy to 'do the deed' TWICE Monday!! That hasn't happened in months lol

  27. AprilFool

    nectarine / 2591 posts

@Pumpkinspice: I actually said to someone yesterday if it wasn't for the growing belly I wouldn't even know I was pregnant! haha I still get tired easily but am not the bone tired from doing nothing that I was a few weeks ago. It's nice!

    @hergreenapples: such a cute bump!

@Mrs. Blue: how exciting! I think we will go crib shopping this weekend. I tried to buy my girl this stuffed elephant I had seen but they had sold it so no congrats on being a girl gift. haha

    @sylvie_b: Thanks

All went well at the OB appointment today!

He found baby's heartbeat straight away - 156 loud and clear, so no scan needed. My uterus fundal height is measuring 16 weeks - I'm 15+4. Nice and easy, actually.

The funniest thing was that my bladder refused to co-operate today. I got to the hospital early, drank a full bottle of water, turned taps on.. nothing. I finally squeezed out a wee bit of a sample (get it? wee bit!?) and proudly got it ready to give to the widwife... except that the midwife was off today, so no sample needed. WHAT?!

Also, irony? I had to pee so badly on the way home, I had to pull over to use a McDonalds restroom.

I'm anxiously awaiting news from Mrs. Blue!!!

  35. jaguar

    pomegranate / 3764 posts

I got a bit of a scare this morning - I looked at my referral the OB wrote out, in preparation for the 19-week scan... and he wrote the high risk factors from my NT scan there, to remind them I guess.

    It said:

    Low Papp-A: <0.18mom
    T21 - 1:169
    T18 - 1:100

Now, I knew about the Downs risk & the low hormones - but nobody said anything about the T18 risk being EVEN HIGHER. Is it weird? I rang him and he said that it doesn't change anything anyway - since we're against doing the amnio & would carry to term regardless, but still.. I'd just mentally prepared myself for the high risk of 1:169, ya know?

Ah well. 3 weeks til the morph scan.

  36. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

T18 is really rare....you wouldn't carry to term with it, since it's a fatal defect. They should be able to see more at your next scan. Maybe that's why he hasn't said anything? I don't think it's common to carry that far with T18. I can't remember. I was high risk for it, too.

You are only at a 1% chance for it, and the likelihood of a handicapped child is 2-3% if that helps. Still very rare! What was your hcg number for it?

  37. jaguar

    pomegranate / 3764 posts

@blackbird: hCG at the 12 week bloods was 0.58mom, if that helps

  38. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

I think high hcg indicates T18, too, so you would be missing a factor! Maybe that's comforting?

  39. jaguar

    pomegranate / 3764 posts

@blackbird: It is! (I'm taking anything - just trying to be as zen as possible.) Thanks for the kind words! xxx

Okay ladies.. if all goes well, we'll be finding out gender at the 16 week scan tomorrow.

What say you: boy or girl?
