@megz06: laugh away. I am totally laughing about it!

@lovelyplum: I told my mom about how it is so hard to put on socks, and she laughed too. She goes, "this is only the beginning!" Oh boy.

@dandelion: Oh wow, I don't blame you. We're getting there, at least.

@gilmoregirl: oh no! I was just thinking about this as I got in the car this am. Seriously wondering if I should keep a change of clothes in the car just in case! hope tomorrow is a better day!!

Favorite quote of the day: "mrs. d you just get bigger everyday!" to be fair this actually made me smile bc this girl is very sweet. i also hadn't seen her since last week and i do feel like i am finally showing a little lol

@jhd: Haha that's cute. Kids do say funny things! DH told his 7th graders that he was going to be a dad, and one of the boys innocently (and so serious I guess) raised his hand and was like, "Whatever you do, DON'T make her mad. Women become, like, bipolar or something when they are pregnant!"

@megz06: LOL, I love that. You should totally keep that in your back pocket and pull it out when you need it

Arg...So...DS was chosen to be Terrific Kid for the month of November. It's all great, but the assembly is next Friday...at the same time as my appointment! I told his teacher that I'm gonna see if I can get an earlier day for my appointment, and she said she can just hold it off til December if I'm not going to be able to make it.

So, I put in a call to my OB office and now I'm waiting for the nurse to call me back and let me know if this is even possible. If not, it's fine, DS doesn't even know about being Terrific Kid, so if he is in Dec, he will never know that he missed for Nov. But, it would also be nice if I could have my ultrasound sooner!

I told the office that if I have to split the blood sugar and ultrasound appointments into 2 days, I'd be willing to do that, too, so hopefully that bit of flexibility would help.

So now I wait for them to call me back!

I love my OB office, but I hate how long it takes for nurses to call back. How long do you usually have to wait for them to talk to you? It's been over 2 hours!

@gilmoregirl: oh gosh, things to come. Hilarious and mortifying all at once.

I posted on the other thread, but we made it through our u/s staying TG! Whew! I have been struuuuggling the last few days as it was getting closer

  12. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@Dandelion: I'm sorry! I think the nurses at my office usually make calls three times a day: once around 11, once around 2, and once patient hours are over, so between 4:30-5:00. If it's urgent, though, they'll put you back right away.

Sorry you have to wait. I hope you can get it all figured out!!

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@LovelyPlum: I gave up and told ds' s teacher just to wait til next month. After I got that sortwd out the office called and offered me a Thursday appointment but it was much more stretched out than the one on Friday. I told her nm I got it all figured out. So I still have to wait til Friday! Really though, it's fine cause dh would have a hard time changing his day off from work.

@jhd: Aw that's cute your students are noticing. Next spring they'll probably be watching you up there, terrified you'll go into labor any second. Like a ticking time bomb. Haha! They're more observant than they look! (I'm not a teacher, but I volunteer with high school kids.)

@Dandelion: I'm glad the scheduling worked out and you get to have your Proud-Mom-Moment! That's so cool for your DS!

  15. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@PEAPIE: Yeah...well his teacher is just postponing it for next month...I'm happy that she was flexible with it! I told her why next Friday was bad and she totally understood, lol.

@HazelEyes: Good job on staying strong! I am impressed, lol.

@Dandelion: yay! so exciting it is this week!

How was everyone's weekend? Ours was just a quiet one at home trying to get things unpacked & organized.

I'm feeling much better than I was in the first tri, but still haven't experienced much change in my energy levels. I'm just plain tired! And dreaded coming to work this morning. I don't like feeling that way. Just have to remember it's not too much longer til Thanksgiving!

  19. megz06

    @Dandelion: That's exciting!!

@jhd: I like the quiet weekends. We are hunters, so we went out Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday evening I developed a nasty ear ache. I went to see the doctor this morning, and he said there was no infection and because I am pregnant, he doesn't want to give me anything. He said it sounds like just a cold in my ear, and I should do some nasal rinses and put a warm/hot compress on it.

This 2nd trimester has been nothing but trouble for me it seems. I have frequent migranes/headaches, allergies to my contact solution (that's I've used for 10 years), dry eyes, ear aches, always tired, and round ligament pain. I'd give anything to have my 1st trimester back.

@jhd: weekend was great! Had our holiday mini session with our photographer for Xmas cards and I can't wait to see all the pictures!

I can't believe I'm 19 weeks now! I feel baby all the time and strangers have started asking when I'm due or how far along I am.

@megz06: oh no that sounds awful! I hope you start feeling better soon!

  21. luckypenny

Also, anyone want to start a gender thread so we can keep tack? I can also add it onto the due date lost (even though I haven't updated in forever...yikes!!)

@Dandelion: Friday is so soon!! exciting!

@megz06: sorry you're having such a hard time!

@luckypenny: ahhh that's so amazing that you're feeling the baby move so much! And strangers asking about the bump--I kind of can't wait for that! I'm definitely showing but I think I just look fat if someone doesn't know me, haha.

    @jhd: I love quiet weekends!

I'm abroad again for my dissertation research, but unlike when I was here over the summer, a bunch of my grad school friends are also here right now, so the weekend was much more fun and social than I expected! These are all friends I hadn't seen since at least last May, some even longer, and I'd only told one via email about the baby, so it was really fun to surprise them! Though they weren't very surprised--they'd basically all already speculated that I was pregnant, just based on the fact that I'd changed my research schedule around and am here for a shorter period than I originally planned!

The trip isn't all fun though, I've been more nauseas than I was at home, probably because my eating schedule is different--it's hard for me to eat frequent small meals here, but I get sick if I eat too much at once. Boooo! Also, I noticed stretch marks on my belly for the first time today. They're white, not red or purple, but I don't remember ever getting dark colored ones when I was a teenager, just white. So weird!

  23. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@luckypenny: I think someone already did! And I have been putting them on the appointments thread, too But we could add them here, if you wanted!

@jhd: I hear you on the energy! I applaud people who get more energy in the second tri, but I sure as heck am not one of them! I have considerably less energy than I did, and add to that that I really don't sleep well anymore. It all adds up to 1/2 a unisom being my new best friend!

@nana87: have fun abroad! It's so awesome that your classmates are there, too. Take some time away from those archives and enjoy some sights!

Our weekend was good, but tiring. We went out of town to visit my parents, which was really fun. My mom was supposed to come back with us, but it didn't end up working out. It was still really great to see her, though.

I updated the appointment thread with details from my appointment today. Long story short: it was draining, but baby looks great. And we're still TG

    Happy Veterans' Day, everyone!

@LovelyPlum: sorry to hear you don't have much energy either. but i'm kind of glad i'm not alone. i think most of the people who raved to me about how great they felt in the 2nd tri also have kids who are teens...it's been a while since they went through this!

@nana87: hope you can get on a good schedule & feel a little better. i'm glad you have friends to visit with & hope your research goes well

@luckypenny: i bet xmas card pics was fun. it's always funny when we get pictures done b/c DH isn't the best at smiling for photos! lol

@megz06: sorry you are feeling so poorly. i hope things improve for you soon!!!

Question. I see some ladies already having a glucose screening. Do they typically do this at your anatomy scan as part of the "routine" or do you schedule a whole other appointment? I wasn't told that I needed to take one yet or to make an appointment, so I wasn't sure if they were just going to spring it on me or what.

  26. luckypenny

    grapefruit / 4582 posts

@megz06: I think they did mine last time around 23 weeks .... Haven't scheduled mine yet but your doc should let you know what kind of appt you have coming up at your next one. If not, you can always ask

  27. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@megz06: Usually it's done around 26-28 weeks. I have to do it early because of past complications from it. It's pretty much guaranteed that I have it, just need to get the actual test over with. I know I'll fail the 1 hour...I'm hoping, because of my past, that I can just get them to agree that I have GD and move on as if I failed the 3 hour, too...because I know I will.

ETA: They won't spring it on you, because there's some directions you need to follow before it (fasting and stuff).

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@megz06: I asked about it, too. Apparently at my office, they do it between 26 and 28 weeks, so I have some time yet.

So has anyone started thinking about gear yet? I was contemplating putting together a registry, which I'm getting excited about!

I'm baaacckk! I'm so sorry guys that I just fell off the face of the planet! My first trimester turned out to be way rougher than I expected, and with work and feeling miserable all the time I didn't have much in me to keep up with HB. I have been debating for the last couple of weeks whether or not it had been too long to make an awkward comeback, but I decided I couldn't stay away! I have missed HB and keeping up with everyone! I'm now nearly 18 weeks and time is going by soooo fast! This has definitely been a crazy journey so far! I'm so excited to be back online and to hear how everyone else is doing!

@LovelyPlum: luckily I don't have to buy much because we saved everything from DD. except my mom bought me a new diaper bag (MJacobs Eliza) and I love it I saw you mention it on another thread. I think for one baby it will be way too big and you'll end up downsizing quickly.

    @CharityAnne: welcome back!!

    @CharityAnne: welcome back!!

@LovelyPlum: oh, I love thinking about gear!! Mostly I've thought about strollers and car seats, since they're such big ticket items and interrelated: I've already gone to look at strollers twice but haven't made a decision yet, haha. I'm leaning towards either the Uppababy Vista or Cruz. I love how the City Mini folds (very important in NYC!) but I don't love that it can't be rear facing...For car seats I still don't know either. I think the Cybex Aton, but I haven't seen it in person yet. The Uppababy Mesa would be super convenient (esp if we go with the Cruz--no adaptor needed!) but it's a little heavier than the Aton. I think we've also picked out our crib and changing table, but will go look at it one more time before registering. I don't want to start our registry until after my 20-week anatomy scan, which is when I think we'll put the pregnancy totally out there, ie on FB. Most people in our daily lives already know, so at this point it's more superstition than anything else (my sil found out her 2nd pregnancy wasn't viable at the 20 week as... so it makes me really nervous and seems like a huge appt to me!)

Thanks for answering my question about glucose testing, ladies

@LovelyPlum: I actually have a baby wishlist started on Amazon. I plan on registering elsewhere too, but it is nice to have someplace to put my thoughts. I have all the essentials figured out (stroller, car seat, etc) with the exception of color. I even have diapers, bottles, bottle warmer, receiving blankets, all that good stuff almost figured out. I am keeping it just a wishlist for a while because I find I change my mind about stuff a lot or if DH says he saw something, we will discuss it. I find myself leaning towards Graco everything or at least that seems to be the trend (not on purpose).

@CharityAnne: Welcome back! Sounds like you're feeling better...good to hear. I am opposite of, like, every other woman on the planet lol. My 1st trimester was a breeze, but the second is kicking my butt!

@CharityAnne: welcome back! I'm so glad that you're feeling better. Crazy how time is flying, no?!

@nana87: I love thinking about it, too! We haven't gone in person yet, though, just lots of web surfing. We're leaning towards the Cruz + Mesa, but I'm not sold on that yet until I try it. And I hear you on waiting until after your 20 week scan. Clearly, I was a mess before mine, and we still haven't put an announcement on FB. At this point, I don't think we're going to, actually...it just makes me more anxious than excited. So we stick with things that make me excited

@luckypenny: thanks!! It's so hard to know what to get. I get so, so confused. Clearly, I spent hours and hours yesterday on bags, and I came away with a few ideas, but nothing definite. But I'm glad you got such a fun gift!

@megz06: I had a wish list started a long time ago, but I haven't been keeping up with it. I should probably go clear it out so that I can start from scratch again. The good news is that DH has pretty much said he doesn't have an opinion on most gear, so I get to play. This could get dangerous

uggggh, I need to vent for a minute: I just got an email from my mom saying "it's hard for me to remember what is and is not share-able" about the pregnancy. really? really? is it REALLY that hard???? we gave her the green light to tell people about the baby and that baby is a girl, just NOT on fb yet and not her name (dh feels very strongly about not sharing the name--I didn't know that before bfp and had told my mom like a year before we got pregnant, oops!). how is that so hard?

DD has been sick with a cough for 2 days and last night it hit me hard. Head is throbbing. Throat is swollen and scratchy. Ryes swollen/watery. Coughing up stuff DH took Dd to grandmas and I'm in bed trying to rest. Because Dd is still sick she sleeps with me at night which means I get zero sleep. Took one Claritin and Tylenol and it hasn't helped. Anyone know a good natural remedy?

  38. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@nana87: ugh, that is really frustrating. I mean, it's good that she is trying to respect your wishes, but I agree, that doesn't seem like a long list of things not to tell. It sounds like she's really excited, though.

  39. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@luckypenny: Yuuuuck, I'm sorry. I use a humidifier and Vick's when I'm sick. I would think that vapor rub would be OK to use during pregnancy? And I know that some doctors are OK with using decongestants-maybe give yours a call?

  40. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@nana87: lol, tell her if she's unsure, then dont' say anything, lol. My mom has already told more people than I wanted to know, and I'm still pretty annoyed by it. She said she misunderstood. How can she misunderstand to NOT tell anyone besides family? Ugg. Still bugs me.

@luckypenny: Oh, yuck. Steam can help...drink tea or something. Robitussin is allowed in pregnancy, too. It helped me a lot when I got a bad cold when I was pregnant with S.
