We are closing on our house Thursday.
I think it finally hit me this weekend that we are moving! I got lots of stuff packed...then wore myself out and had to go to bed at 7pm on Sat!
MIL is coming over to help DH pack up kitchen breakables tomorrow evening. I still don't have much energy for doing things after working all day.

Happy Monday everyone! it sounds like everyone's had fun and/or productive weekends!
@megz06: @LovelyPlum: I love hearing about sweet dh's talking to baby bumps! so cute!
We had a busy nesting weekend! We rented a zipcar (since we don't have a car) and went out to the suburbs for a big Ikea trip and went to look (but not buy) at nursery furniture at Pottery Barn Kids. We got a bunch of new furniture--I'm losing my office/closet to make room for the nursery, so there's a bunch of reorganizing that needed to happen to make room in other parts of the apartment! We also bought new rugs for the living room and nursery--first big nursery purchase! though we aren't putting it out yet, we only got it because there was a big sale, yay for 25% off! So we spent a lot of the weekend shopping and setting up furniture. Exhausting, but so exciting too!

@megz06: That is too cute! My husband wants to talk to the baby, but he gets really awkward and doesn't know what to say. So he keeps just saying, "hello. how are you?" in a formal voice. I am so amused by it.

I am finally looking kinda pregnant at 18 weeks! Hurrah. The fetus is bopping around in there too, and I like pregnancy a lot more when I can feel the baby.
Also, no puking since getting Zofran almost two weeks ago. It is awesome.
We're totally public with friends and family, but I haven't been telling my students. Totally was asked today. There was a big debate among the girls who were all too scared to ask, so finally one boy yells out, "miss, you are pregnant?" It was all kinda cute. Those kids can be charming when they want to.

One of my dearest friends is due a month before me. I'm thrilled, because she has dealt with loss, too, so it will be a nice thing to celebrate together with her. We're having lunch together tomorrow, so I can't wait to talk more about it with her.
Yesterday I went to my mom's and pulled out S's clothes. There were 3 large plastic storage bins. We went through them, looking for clothes that could be unisex, if necessary. I found a pair of grey pants. That's IT.
I do have neutral towels and the big gear is Lion King, so also neutral. But, if this is a boy, I have some work cut out for me! I decided to just wait out the next 3ish weeks and not worry about any of it until I know for sure.
Other than that, today I felt a big kick! It was an obvious whack on my side. It's nice to feel that. It helps with the paranoia, lol.

@gilmoregirl: my students were finally brave enough to ask last week. i'm not noticeably pregnant yet (i'm a few weeks behind you) but i think it was my constant snacking and the fact that i'd missed a few days already. it was funny because i knew some of them knew but were too terrified to ask. lol

@gilmoregirl: @jhd: I haven't really come out to my students yet. I mean, I often am sitting behind a desk (I'm a counselor) so they may not notice... plus they are teenagers who rarely think about anyone but themselves, haha
I have had a few teachers who have gasped at me when I've gone to talk to them. You can't really tell too much when I'm face on, but when they get a side view its much more obvious. At this point I just assume everyone knows though!

@Dandelion: how fun about your friend! I've been feeling some kicks too, and while it does help with the paranoia, it's also uncomfortable, lol. But I know it's about to get a whooooole lot worse before it gets better!
@gilmoregirl: that's so cute. And I'm so glad that you are feeling better! What a relief that must be!
I have pretty much told everyone in the department that I need to tell, and since I'm not teaching this year, I don't need to tell my class. It's pretty crazy being out in the open!

Sorry I haven't been around much. Got in yesterday from our vacation and I just wanted to spend all day with DD, I missed her so much! Looks like everyone else had a good weekend too. Pal springs was amazing and it was so nice to just lay around with DH.

@megz06: I can't wait to start shopping! And cute DH moment!
There's just something about them referring to themselves as 'Daddy'... it's cute!
@LovelyPlum: My dogs totally do that too! Well, they know when we say "______ will be home soon" they run to the garage door to wait. So sometimes if we are just in conversation and say something similar to that they perk up and run to the door. Hah! Do you think your dog senses you're pregnant? I've heard stories about dogs acting funny because they know. I just have one clingy dog, and I'm thinking it's because she knows. The other one is sort of.... dumb.
@jhd: I'm glad your getting help with the move. Moving is tiring when you're NOT pregnant! Keep taking it easy. Yay for nesting in your new house soon!
@Dandelion: I hope you had an uplifting lunch with your friend. It's probably so nice to have someone, in person, you can connect with! And yay for reassuring kicks! I haven't had any yet (but I'm only 14-ish weeks) nor have I ever felt them, so I can't wait. When I lay on my left side, I sometimes feel sporadic flutters, maybe. But I haven't admitted it out loud because I'm not sure!

@PEAPIE: that is so funny about your pups. We keep telling her she is getting "some kids" for her birthday, because she knows what kids are and LOVES them. She gets all excited, but I do feel bad that she wants them now, and this one is not coming for a while. But she 100% knows, and I'm pretty sure she has for a while. She is suuuuuper clingy, and she refuses to jump on me or rough house with me anymore. It is a combination of super cute and really annoying.

@LovelyPlum: @HazelEyes: @gilmoregirl: @jhd: I didn't realize there were so many teachers on this board!

So, funny thing...today I'm burping a lot (thanks, hormones) and after each one, I feel LO flipping around in there. I don't know if it's startling the baby, or what, but I'm finding it entertaining. At least I know LO's hearing is good!
apricot / 335 posts
@Dandelion: That is cute! I am waiting for my LO to start tapping it's legs on my belly since I listen to music for 8 hours a day at work. And right now it is all Christmas music or Josh Groban! Either that or kick me for listen to holiday music already, lol.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@Dandelion: there are a lot of us! I'm a little different, because I'm a graduate student who normally teaches recitations for college freshmen in large seminar classes. This semester, I'm not in the classroom, but I do miss it!

I'm getting SO impatient to know what this baby is! 15 more days!
I don't think I will ever understand being Team Green...you ladies who do it must have amazing patience! I feel like I MUST know!

Today is closing day!!! DH & FIL are packing up all our stuff (I"m at work since I can't help anyway). Exciting day!
How is everyone doing today?
eggplant / 11408 posts
@jhd: YAAAAY!!! Good luck, lady. And good for you for getting out of the last minute packing/moving Congratulations!
I'm doing well. It's wet and windy here, so I feel bad for the trick-or-treaters. But I put our pumpkins outside, so even though most of my decorations didn't make it up this year, I have something festive out!
Also, small update on my cardiology appt: the doctor said that my tests and my heart look normal. BP is low, though, so he wants me to take it easy, drink lots of fluids, and make sure I'm getting enough salt. He recommended drinking Gatorade, so I'll try to do that at least once a day. I figured it was all going to be OK, but it's a big relief to know that things actually are fine
eggplant / 11408 posts
@Dandelion: I'm having a harder time as the date approaches, but in general, I just want the surprise. I'll be glad when the temptation isn't there anymore, though!
coconut / 8079 posts
@LovelyPlum: thanks, lady! my mom is going to help me unpack some essentials this weekend and then i'm just going to rest!
i'm so glad you got good news from the cardiologist. take good care of yourself!
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
@LovelyPlum: I'm in the same situation as you--I teach but not this year, and for college student recitations rather than being in the classroom everyday.
also, @LovelyPlumL thank goodness for good news from the cardiologist! I've been a big, big fan of gatorade lately
@jhd: congrats on closing!!
I had a quick appointment today for the afp blood test, and my dr did a quick us...the doctor said she thinks the baby is a girl!! but babe's legs were folded and crossed, so it's still a guess. i have my 16 week anatomy scan on monday at the hospital though, so hopefully then baby will be more cooperative plus the hospital's machine is better/more high-tech, so we'll have a better shot at seeing for sure!
also, have any of you been having bad gas pains lately? my doctor said she doesn't really want me to take anything for it though gas-x is okay, but man, it's been pretty uncomfortable!
coconut / 8079 posts
@nana87: i had some terrible pain one sat am. i was so freaked out. then realized it was just gas. definitely not comfortable. it is so strange to feel like i don't know my body at all anymore! lol
that's so exciting! hope baby cooperates on monday so you can get confirmation.
apricot / 335 posts
@nana87: Ooo a girl. Hopefully you get better confirmation Monday. I haven't had much gas lately, but when it does happy it is very uncomfortable. I don't take anything for it. I find it is better if I lay completely flat and massage my belly a little.
By the way, Happy Halloween everyone. Here is a particularily scary selfie. I am not very good at mirror selfies, especially turned to the side.

@jhd: congrats!!! @LovelyPlum: glad to know everything went well at EKG. That was scary!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@nana87: @jhd: @luckypenny: thank you! I'm trying to avoid stress, take walks, and stay really, really hydrated. I had Gatorade yesterday, and I felt better after drinking it. Maybe he was on to something with my electrolytes being out of whack.
@jhd: glad you're getting help Benefit of pregnancy, no?
@nana87: I get horrible gas (which is starting to smell awful too...ugh). When it's really bad, I take Gas-X, because I've had gas pains before that were debilitating, so I'm scared of that! And eeek on a girl! That is so much fun.
@megz06: happy halloween to you too, pretty lady! I finally got my butt in gear today and put up my decorations this afternoon. Better late than never?
coconut / 8079 posts
@LovelyPlum: you will just have to try out all the gatorade flavors! we tried strawberry for the first time a few months ago and it was good! i am definitely taking advantage of all the help i can get. even students at school are being uncharacteristically helpful now that they know

ugggghh so much for getting to tell people ourselves!! we've still only been slowly telling people, and asking them not to tell others, so that we can tell important people ourselves. BUT turns out that mil's best friend, who was told multiple times (in person and in email) NOT to tell anyone except her kids about our baby, told her mechanic who also happens to be the father of one of dh's close friends from high school, who of course told his son. dh was going to tell his friend when we're in dh's hometown for thanksgiving in a couple weeks, so it isn't really that big of a deal, but still, SO ANNOYING!! why can't people be more considerate? I mean, I understand that we can't really control the news that much once we start telling some people--it's out there, it's gossip, etc etc--but it's just common courtesy not to say if someone explicitly tells you not too!

I feel awful today. Tired, nauseous, and just sluggish. I am hoping I can make it through today without caving and going home. I didn't even eat much Halloween candy yesterday, and of course I didn't have alcohol so it isn't a self inflicted sickness, lol. I just feel like the longer I stare at my computer screen the worse I feel, and I have no choice since I;m the IT person. Bleh.

finally got some maternity pants and am wearing them for the first time today. OMG. what was I waiting for? i have a tiny bump now and it makes me excited.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@jhd: seriously! Glad you've come over to the comfy side I, on the other hand, am not wearing a maternity shirt today, and I sorta regret it. I thought I could get away with some of my old sweaters, but the one I have on is now significantly shorter in the front than it is in the back. No one else can probably tell, but it's making me a little nuts
And I'm glad you're taking advantage of the help. Did the closing go smoothly??
@megz06: I'm so sorry. I've been having some rough days lately, too, the kind where you're pretty sure a truck ran over you ,backed up, then did it again. Feel better!
coconut / 8079 posts
@LovelyPlum: the closing went really well, thanks! ILs got everything off the moving truck & then my parents & sis helped find boxes we will need/want right away & started unpacking. They are spoiling me with all this extra help!
apricot / 335 posts
@jhd: Did you get any maternity leggings/yoga pants? I am serious when I say tomorrow I will be slappin' a pair of those bad boys on and laying on the couch until I get bed sores. Well, maybe not that last part, but the maternity leggings are so comfy.
coconut / 8079 posts
@megz06: not yet but I need to! Today I wore black skinny jeans and they are so soft & comfy. I think your plan sounds great! I know I will be spending as much time as possible on the couch this weekend too! I hope you feel better!
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@megz06: oh no! Hope you're feeling better!
@jhd: I've just started wearing my maternity jeans full time now and it's the best! Still pretty big on me but better than a hair tie around the button lol
watermelon / 14206 posts
@nana87: My mom has been spilling the beans, too. I thought I was going to have to worry about my MIL, but she's been great about it. My mom told a bunch of people at her church, who I also know through my temp job and/or social circles. So, it was really awkward when one of them said, "congrats! when are you due?" I yelled at my mom, who thought it was no big deal, but then last night, while trunk or treating with DS at my mom's church, one lady struck up a conversation about how I feel about it, after losing S. It's exactly the thing I didn't want to have to face (especially on the spot like that), so now I'm truly upset at my mom.
coconut / 8079 posts
@luckypenny: I was too scared to try the hair band trick---nightmares of band popping or some other disaster while standing in front of a room full of teenagers. Haha but the pants one size up from before I lost weight weren't working either! Glad I made the switch!!
