@luckypenny: I took Zyrtec during my last pregnancy. It's on the safe list.

Why is it now that I have entered the second trimester my body decides to punish me when I had this huge expectation at this was supposed to be the best trimester? Gah. My appetite is all over the place. One minute I am hungry and the next I couldn't care less about food. My allergies are back with full force, my eyes are dry, I have frequent headaches and upper backaches, and I am stiff when I get up off the couch from round ligament pain. Plus I am TIRED.
I shouldn't complain because I had a pretty darn cozy first tri, but with the weather changing (very cold, rainy, snowy now), I would rather feel physically better than worse.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@megz06: BLAH. Honestly, the second tri has not been magical for me yet. I am starting to feel better on certain days, but then when the yuck hits, it hits HARD. And sleeping is very uncomfy. So I hear you! Hope you feel better soon

@megz06: My food issues have gone away by like 50% now, but oh the tiredness!! I have taken so many naps lately!

When does everyone start to find out gender? Is it 15-20 weeks?? I saw a fun poll thread started in the Feb boards for everyone to guess each others genders and would love to start one for us too!
apricot / 335 posts
@LovelyPlum: That's pretty much how I feel. Now that it is hitting me, it's hitting me hard. The tiredness hits me hard. Appetite same thing. Ugh.
@jill_a55: 15-20 weeks is accurate although I have opted for the later time of 20 weeks, so it is looking like mine will either be the last week of November or first week in December
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
@jill_a55: at my NT scan at 12 weeks, the ultrasound tech said they could tell at the 16 week anatomy scan--mine is scheduled for nov 4, and I cannot wait!! I have an appt with my doctor tomorrow and it's prob too early to tell (13.5 weeks), but I'm hoping maybe she'll take a guess
eggplant / 11408 posts
@jill_a55: I'm getting my anomaly scan at 18 weeks, and the doctor said they'll be able to tell then. We're Team Green, though, so we won't find out...unless we cave, which I hope we don't! My u/s is scheduled for 11/11.
@megz06: ugh. Hang in there, mama. It's really no fun at all.
Small victory: I ate lunch! Hoping that my stomach cooperates and it stays settled...
persimmon / 1141 posts
@LovelyPlum: Feeling really similar. I thought I had a "magical" moment where I suddenly felt cured of all symptoms during the first week of the 2nd trimester. I really spoke too soon. When it hits, it hits hard. Like the nausea is intense and it's a general crappy feeling out of no where, usually later at night on my way home from work. I'm feeling better on more days overall though.
@jill_a55: I'm so curious to find out the sex! We have a 16 week appointment next week and if the baby cooperates, we might find out then. If not, we won't know until our anatomy scan in late November at 20 weeks. Super impatient here! I don't think I could ever be TG because of my impatience.
We should totally do a prediction list! And then when we find out, start tallying the girls and boys. My OB's practice was saying that practically all of her current patients are finding out they're expecting girls. Maybe it's something in the water affecting the pH balance down there. My initial gut feeling was boy...now I'm not so sure.

Oh I've been MIA on this board... whew! Sad news, is HARD to hear. But there's been good news too, looks like. I'm glad some of y'all are feeling better-ish, relief is coming soon if not! HOPEFULLY!
It's so exciting to think about finding out the gender (if you're finding out)! I think we've lost all self control in that department and WILL be finding out instead of staying team green. Any other Team Greeners chickening out too? Just me? @LovelyPlum: ???
I've mostly been MIA because I've been doing great and don't really have any terrible symptoms to talk about/commiserate over/give input on. Such a blessing! I am noticing my energy is coming back, which was really my only prominent symptom... zombie-ness.
I'm getting nervous again for my second appointment, this Friday. Just a MW appointment- we're skipping NT stuff. Hope everything is still ok in there and we hear a heartbeat on the doppler.

@PEAPIE: glad you have more energy and less zombie-ness good luck on fri. i'm sure everything is great!

@SupernovaJ: i'm also too impatient to be team green although it would be a fun surprise. we should find out at our anatomy scan 11/20!

Do you ladies take a prenatal that includes iron or do you take it as a separate supplement? I take gummies that don't have iron & my doc said she wanted me to add iron in the 2nd tri. I will call check with her but just wondered what works for you all.
Don't you hate it when you forget to ask the doc questions?
clementine / 854 posts
@jhd: I take gummies too. My dr. tested my iron levels around 10 weeks, and everything was fine, so she said not to bother with additional iron. I'll get bloodwork again around 24 weeks. If my bloodwork shows I'm anemic at that point, I'll start taking it then.
persimmon / 1141 posts
@jhd: I take prenatals prescribed by my OB, which includes 29mg of iron. The brand is CitraNatal Harmony and doesn't cost too much after insurance. I've stuck with this one because I think it helped with my nausea (includes ginger). It also includes a stool softener and DHA. Before getting pregnant, I was so bad about taking vitamins that I really needed something that included everything otherwise I'd probably skip the prenatals here and there.
clementine / 811 posts
@PEAPIE: our plan is to stay team green, but it is definitely hard to know we could find out in 3 weeks! I have had more energy, but been getting headaches lately--ugh! Last night I had to go to bed at 8 bc I couldn't do anything else.
@jhd: I don't know if I need more iron, my prenatal says 30 mg (Rainbow Lights) and then DHA. How much iron should we have? They've taken blood at every appt so far, so if I was low, I would hope that would tell them if I'm anemic. And YES I never remember my questions. I try to write them down, but I somehow come up w my questions when I'm driving, which is not conducive to writing them down.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@PEAPIE: I'm glad you're feeling well, but I'm also glad that you're back! I was wondering where you'd gone to
We are still Team Green! I'm trying not to think too much about it, because then I will want to find out! I know myself, if I find out I will be disappointed later that we didn't wait. So, TG it is for us!
@jhd: I also take gummies, but they don't have any iron in them. I have iron supplements, but I don't take them regularly. The next time I have bloodwork, I'm going to ask them to check my iron levels. When I'm really dragging, I take an iron supplement, and it seems to help. I do take a separate Fiber + Calcium supplement, a folic acid supplement, and a magnesium supplement, though.
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
I also ALWAYS forget to ask the doc my questions, even when I write them down! I wanted to ask her yesterday about unpasteurized but hard cheeses--I live on parmesan and I've noticed that a lot of the Italian ones are unpasteurized!--but of course I only remembered after I left...
apricot / 344 posts
@HazelEyes: Headaches are so sad when you're pregnant, because I feel too guilty to take drugs. So going to bed is the only good option! I agree. I've had them occasionally- but they aren't as bad as my old headaches, luckily. I think I figure out that I just need a little caffeine in the morning and it keeps me from getting them in the afternoon. Maybe that will work for you?
@LovelyPlum: aw, thanks!
@jhd: mine has iron too. Just a little advice- If you increase iron also increase fiber in your diet! Iron tends to back you up a little.

@peapie: @nana87: @lovelyplum: @luckypenny: @supernovaj: @hazeleyes: thanks, ladies. i'm just always curious to see what others are doing. i called and left a message & so my nurse should call back soon to tell me how much iron they want me to take. i haven't had any bloodwork done aside from the big screening at the beginning of the pregnancy so i don't think they would know my iron levels! i guess i'm curious if i should switch to a vitamin with iron or just stick to my gummies. i like how easy they are to take.
@peapie: good call on the fiber!

November 27 we get to find out the gender! That was the only exciting news about my last exam except my vitamin d level going from 11 to 25 (still low--it should be in the 30-80 range but it's getting there).
I have BV right now (I've had it before), so I need to be on meds, and I'm not happy. I have been trying to avoid meds as much as possible. I JUST caved on Saturday and took Tylenol for an excruciating backache/headache. Otherwise I ignore pain and think of my baby, even if it is safe to take. So because of this I have to have IV antibiotics before I deliver to ensure a safe delivery. Sucky!
They are also strongly urging me get a flu shot as well as my husband. I've had the flu one time in my life, 7 years ago, and I have never had the flu shot, but oh well. Plus I'm non-immune to rubella, so I need that shot at my PP checkup. Not sure if that one is standard. I also need the TDaP shot at 30 weeks too.
I just hate shots, lol. I finally got over my fear of having blood drawn, and now I need to get shots. This Little Putz better be worth it!

uggggh so I'm going to a wedding this weekend and just tried on the dress I was going to wear, and I look like such a cow!! These are friends who don't know I'm pregnant yet, and I think it'd be kind of tacky to tell them at the wedding. My bump isn't so obvious yet, so they're all just going to think I've gotten fat I've been really good at not being too self conscious about my body changing so far, but I'm so frustrated right now. I tried on like every dress I own (all non-maternity) that might work and I just feel so uncomfortable in all of them
persimmon / 1273 posts
@nana87: story of my life, girl. No advice (I actually ended up and going out to buy an emergency dress for a wedding this past Saturday) but I can totally relate. I had a total meltdown while packing for a trip last week because nothing fits and I feel gross and ugh. I was at a wedding with all of my best friends from college right at 12.5 weeks, and I was similarly hesitant to tell at a wedding. I felt like it wasn't MY day. But they all figured it out, and the bride (also a good friend) thought I was being crazy. Anyway, good luck to you; I'm feeling the same things as far as body changes, weight gain (and no visible bump!)

@nana87 Weighing in from the May mamas board to say that a good friend told me she was pregnant at my wedding, and I didn't mind at all. In fact, we were in the car on the way to the airport the next day, and I said to my husband, "Wait, is Erika pregnant? Did she tell us that yesterday?" It was all a blur and I didn't care one bit!!
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
@gilmoregirl: @tarabonno: that's good to know that there are brides who like hearing the news at their weddings! I actually think the bride would be really excited about it and not offended at all--and if she asks (she knows we were ttc) I will tell her! But the thing is, there are only a few people at the wedding that I actually care about breaking the news to personally, but I feel like if my old college roommate (who I am no longer close with so I don't even care if she finds out via FB later) finds out she'll make it into a huuuuge deal, and that's exactly what I don't want! I don't mind telling one or two people discretely, I just think it'd be tacky to make it a big announcement.

Made my first maternity clothes purchase last night! Took advantage of the Shopbop 25% off sale (ends today!!) and got me some j brand maternity jeans
Anyone else ready for Friday? What are your weekend plans? I'm bringing dinner to one of DHs old co-workers. She just had a baby and I can't wait to see a squishy little newborn. It's been forever and it's making me really excite to meet my new LO
coconut / 8079 posts
@luckypenny: i bought my first maternity item yesterday too! i had a 40% off one item coupon for old navy and bought a maternity zip up hoodie. i know i won't need it for a while but i was just excited to buy something.
we should close on our house two weeks from today so i'm hoping to start packing this weekend. DH picked up some boxes from our local grocery store. other than that i have a mountain of papers to grade. i just can't keep up! last night i was so tired i was in bed by 8:30. thankfully i am sleeping well. the early bedtime just makes it hard to stay on top of work stuff.

Well, finally someone on my FB said they're pregnant...I think we're due about the same time. She's my cousin. I wonder how many others will show up.

I've been so bad with keeping up with this board this week!
@nana87: yep, my real pants don't fit. They're so uncomfy. The only thing that does are some shirts and my pj pants. I hope that you find something to wear!
@luckypenny: how do you like the jeans?? And my weekend looks like it will involve some homework and housework, but it should be pretty low key. Looking forward to it! We do have to go to the storage locker and pull out our winter coats, though. It's getting chilly here!
@jhd: ooh, yay for the new house! Packing is the worst, though. I seriously dislike it.
@Dandelion: so fun! We had a lot of announcements last month, but most are for babies earlier in the year. I'm guessing there will be more soon!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@LovelyPlum: She's due the 29th...which is not my due date, but it's the doctor's "due date" lol. So weird if we had our babies the same day.
