Are all of you/ have all of you at one point taken a birth class? Do you feel like it was beneficial or that you could have skipped it? I wasn't planning on it, but now I am having a panic attack and feel like I need to... I looked on the hospital's site and I feel like everything is cutting it too close.
.... aaaand begin hormonal breakdown #589.

@LovelyPlum: I'm so glad you had help with moving. Yay for great friends! And I hope you have so much fun this weekend at your shower and seeing your family.

@jill_a55: we went to a birth class. it was fine and i'm glad we went. i don't feel like i learned tons, but still glad we went. i know some of the other April ladies had a very positive experience.

@Dandelion: I'm so glad everything is going so well for you and that they are taking such good care of you and your family! How's the ankle?

@megz06: first, you look fantastic! but i feel you on the body issues. i've been a little sad this week about the weight gain. my doctor commented on it and suggested walking several times per week. we are already doing that!! my body just doesn't like all the hormones. second, it looks like you had a fantastic shower. love that onesie! haha

@nana87: sounds like a great shower. and how thoughtful of your friend to do a game like that. too fun!
@luckypenny: i'm so glad you were able to reschedule your sprinkle and glad it was fun!

@jill_a55: oh and i've also had numerous hormonal breakdowns...most recently when i called to schedule our preadmission visit at the hospital/tour of birth center and the lady told me that they won't do evenings without clearing it with a manager and told me to call back when i'm 34 weeks. even though all the pamphlets they gave me at the doctor's office said call at 32 weeks. ugh!

@jill_a55: I actually enjoyed our birthing class. Knowing all I know now I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much, but I was about 22 weeks when we took them, so I learned a lot. It was just nice to get the hospital's perspective on the birth-what doctors do what and what options they will offer me as far as birthing methods and techniques.
@jhd: Thanks! I feel like I get shunned every time I mention a body issues to everyone but my April mamas, so you guys are a great support system. If it wasn't so icy, I would be walking several times a week. That would be a huge mood booster too.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@jill_a55: We took one. I'm glad I did it, but I won't lie-I don't think I learned a ton. It helped DH to feel more confident, though, so there's that. (And by more confident, I mean he was proud of himself that he didn't pass out at the videos of the babies crowning, so he is giving himself a shot at not passing out when I deliver ) If you have the chance, I say go for it. If not, don't stress. You can still educate yourself on the process.
@jhd: I'm sorry about the hospital I actually haven't had an emotional breakdown in a few days. Makes me wonder what will trigger the next one, because we all know it's coming sooner or later...
@megz06: this ice is killer. I really wish it were warm enough to be outside!
I forgot to mention this yesterday, but I had another gut-check moment at the hospital yesterday. When you get there, you have to sign consent forms, so I did, no big deal. BUT, I had to sign one for me and the baby. Apparently, it's standard practice at my hospital after 31 weeks. I was SO not prepared for that!!!

@megz06: @LovelyPlum: i hate that you ladies are still dealing with icy/snowy weather! be careful!!

@jill_a55: We did it (just finished up the 6-week course last week) and I am glad that we did. I felt like I got a lot out of it, especially info about low intervention births and breastfeeding. I'm very glad we did it, but I am sure the info and resources are a google search away!
@megz06: If it weren't for my treadmill, I would never leave the couch. Being pregnant over the winter has made hibernation very appealing.

@jhd: We're supposed to get more snow this weekend. I am so over it.

@jill_a55: I've taken 2 classes on labor--one at my hospital's birth center about their practices, and one with a trained doula that was a "crash course" on child birth. I found them really helpful because I'm leaning towards a nonmedicated birth (assuming I can have one, ie don't have complications...which I'm now thinking won't be the case anyway, but I'm still hoping...), but I think more in that it made me more confident in my decisions than it teaching me anything new. I LOVED this book that my sil (who has 2 kids and is finishing med school this year) recommended, I found it incredibly useful for learning about the stages of labor, pros and cons of various medical interventions, coping techniques and labor positions, etc: http://www.amazon.com/The-Book-Birth-Erica-Lyon/dp/0452287685
We also took an infant cpr class, and are scheduled to take a breastfeeding/infant care class next month...My dr is big on pushing classes, haha

@preggomeggo82: boo that stinks. we were supposed to have some one day this week but it missed us. maybe that will happen for you!

@jhd: Here's hoping. I have a baby shower a 2-hour drive away and sort of need to be there. DO NOT want to have to travel in snow!

@preggomeggo82: yes, once per week! its making keeping up at work a little harder, but its nice to get some positive reinforcement
@LovelyPlum: @luckypenny: Thanks ladies, I dont know what happened, I guess things have been busy and suddenly I'm pages and pages behind!
@LovelyPlum: Thats pretty crazy that Baby is getting into position! My docs havent done any measurements down there. Probably better for me, bc I would obsess more about all my little kicks and cramps!

I don't know if it's the way this kid is sitting or what, but I have been urgently having to pee like every hour. It's so crazy. It just started today like this. I hope he adjusts to give me some relief! He must just be so low right now.

@Dandelion: no fun! i'm definitely getting a little tired of the constant trips to the bathroom!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@nana87: thanks for the book recommendation! I'm taking a BF class in a few weeks. It seems like it would be a good idea. We don't have an infant CPR class scheduled yet, because I can't find one in our area. But we'll do it as soon as I can find one!
@preggomeggo82: I hope that you were able to get to your shower!
@HazelEyes: I know! The only reason I know is that I had to go to L+D. I mean, I know that you can walk around dilated for a few weeks, so I'm trying not to put too much stock in it. Mostly, I'm just excited that baby is head down!
@Dandelion: boo that! I've noticed it more, too. But baby can't be that far down, because I'm still getting kicked in the ribs, too!
We're back from my shower. It turned out really well, actually-I had a lot of fun! We got some nice things, which we really appreciate. The highlight is that my parents bought our carseat. We installed it on Saturday so that the dog can get used to riding around with it in the car. So crazy that we're going to need it soon!
I hope that you all had a great weekend

@LovelyPlum: I'm glad you had fun at your shower! And yay for having the carseat installed. That's a great idea to let your dog get used to it in the car.

@LovelyPlum: I'm glad you had a good shower!! We installed the base this week and brought the mini crib over from MILs. Things are starting to get real really fast!

@LovelyPlum: Glad you had a wonderful shower and got the car seat installed! That's on our list to do this Friday. That's a good idea to get the dog used to riding around with it in there.
Saturday we got the rest of the baby stuff off the registry. It was an exhausting day, but fun. Sunday we got the nursery completely cleaned and organized and every single baby items has been washed. It was another exhausting day, and I am paying for it today at work. My ear finally opened up from whatever sinus stuff I had going on, but now I am starting to develop a sore throat from all the post nasal drip. Plus I am TIRED!
Have to pack the hospital bag tonight, and then I can rest the remainder of the week I hope. I think some early evening naps are calling my name if I am this tired.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@jhd: @luckypenny: @megz06: thanks ladies! I realized this morning the one problem with our plan, though: the carseat is dark, and the dog is white. So, it's been there for a DAY and it's already got some hair on it. Poor kid's just gonna have to get used to it, though-welcome to every single thing in our house. Staying hair-free in our house is a pipe dream
The one thing I will say is that while the shower was fun, and everyone was generous, I don't feel entirely ready yet. Lots of people went off-registry, which is totally their prerogative, but last night we had to sit down and figure out what we still need. We used a gift card to get our mattress, a crib sheet, and a mattress pad off of Amazon, so they should be here this week. Our crib, dresser, and rug are at my parents', and they will be coming up either this week or next with my mom. I think our Saturday is going to consist of exchanging some things and prioritizing what we need to get still.
So here's a question: did you ladies do a swing and/or a bouncer? We don't have a lot of space, but we probably have space for a small one of each. We registered for the Baby Bjorn Babysitter Balance bouncer and the 4moms Rockaroo swing, but we didn't get either. Both are compact, which is why we picked them. At this point, I'm thinking we'll only get one of them to start and go from there. I'm trying to decide which I think will be more useful. Thoughts?
coconut / 8079 posts
@LovelyPlum: We registered for a Fisher Price space-saving swing & a Rock N Play. MIL said she wants to get us the RNP. (Now I'm just anxious that she will get the one I want!) Some ladies at school are throwing a little shower for me, but it's not for another two weeks. I'm excited that they want to celebrate our baby...but a little anxious that I have about 6 weeks to go and it feels like we don't have much yet!!! We do have a carseat (convertible) and stroller already though.

@LovelyPlum: and i hear you on the dog hair! i do my best, but our dog has fine little black hairs and they get everywhere!
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
@LovelyPlum: glad your shower went well! I feel you on still having a lot to get. most people stayed on our registries, but bought the "fun" stuff like toys. I kept reading that we'd get tons of clothes and blankets, but we barely got any of those! Not that I blame them--I'd way rather buy Sophie or a Sleep Sheep for someone than swaddling cloths or basic baby clothes. my mom told me I'm getting lots of hand-me-downs from my bro and sil, but I haven't heard that from them, so unless we buy some ourselves baby girl is going to be rocking diapers and nothing else I mean, we have a handful of random onesies, but zero pants/leggings. And we got a grand total of 2 burp cloths, 2 swaddlers with velcro, and 3 swaddle blankets--I doubt that's enough unless we were to do laundry multiple times per day, and considering we don't even have a washer/dryer, that isn't happening!
I'm impressed at all the car seats already being installed!! We have ours but need to make an appointment with a service to teach us how to use it/let us practice installing it since we don't have a car and we'll be using it in cabs
@LovelyPlum: we were gifted this bouncer from our registry: http://www.bloombaby.com/us_en/coco-go.html I liked that it was really, really small and folds up, and even comes with a travel bag. Hopefully baby girl likes it! We didn't register for a swing because we just don't have the space, and I think our dogs would freak out at one anyway.
also, dog hair WILL be everywhere in this baby's life...
@megz06: I am so impressed that your nursery is already ready! ours looks like a storage facility with stuff still in boxes, and we still haven't gotten our furniture delivered due to the PBK snafu I've complained about before...
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@LovelyPlum: Yup, at my shower for DD everyone just bought clothes. The only practical gift we registered for and needed was a baby tub we got from our only other pregnant friends we met in birth class lol. We did a bouncer for DD and bought the same one for this LO. I heard too many horror stories about weaning from the swing so I just wanted one less thing to have to worry about and it turns out the bouncer is all we needed. But I think it depends on the baby. DD was super easy so if she was colicky or difficult I would do anything to get her to sleep I'm sure.
I'd just get the bouncer since its more portable, takes up less space and then if you end up needing a swing, getting it later. PS I love the baby bjorn bouncer!

Had a scary moment yesterday at work... felt like I was going to throw up for a little bit then like 10 minutes later almost fainted! no idea why though!
@jhd: @megz06: @LovelyPlum: @nana87: @preggomeggo82: Thanks for the input on birth classes! I think I am going to skip an actual class... there is an online version I may take just so I can get some more info, but I am the squeamish type and would for sure be the one passing out mid class I may take a breastfeeding class and infant CPR though.
We have our hospital tour on Thursday, which I know will put my DH at ease. Has anyone pre-registered yet? I was looking on the website and saw that I could.. I may do that today after I get off the permahold I'm on calling in about maternity leave!

@LovelyPlum: Glad you had a good shower!! I had a lot of people go off registry too, so I spent a day going through what to keep/return and then just went and did exchanges.
I registered for the baby bjorn bouncer, but my mom swears I should get a swing instead that you don't have to create the motion for... @luckypenny: how young did you start using the baby bjorn? could your LO bounce herself or did you need to make it happen?
apricot / 355 posts
@LovelyPlum: Glad your shower went well! We registered for a Graco glider/swing. Like a 3-in-1 type deal. We have the space for more than one, but I like the idea of multi-function items.
Mine was lovely. It was an adorable Mother Goose theme and we got some wonderful gifts, registry and non-registry. I have a work shower this week, and I am excited to take inventory and figure out what we still need after that.
@nana87: My husband is nervous that my hospital bag isn't packed yet, but I told him I would do it when he installed the car seat bases. Low and behold, the bases appeared in our cars over the weekend, so I had to start packing too.
@jill_a55: I'm preregistered at the hospital (they did that as part of the class we took). It's nice knowing it's done!

@jill_a55: We never had the bjorn bouncer, I just really like the look of it and my friend had it and loved it. I just couldn't justify the price for something we only used for a few months. We had/have this one and love it. I create the motion for it but I didn't want her to have motion all the time. She always seemed very comfortable and we used it from the day we brought her home

@luckypenny: It was so cute! All of these "little boy blue" things and all the food had nursery rhyme pun themes. My friends had put a lot of thought into it and it showed!

@jill_a55: we're going to pre-register. my DH also wants to go for a tour to help him know where to go etc. when the time comes.
@preggomeggo82: i'm glad the snow didn't keep you from your shower! and the mother goose theme sounds adorable.

@jill_a55: @luckypenny: I got the souped up version of that little snugabunny swing, and I think it is going to be a God-sent. We weren't going to get it, and then my mom told me we had to have a swing or we would regret it. She said it saved her life more than once
After a nearly 3 year streak of not being sick, it's official. I have a cold, and it sucks. Once my sinuses started draining, it made my throat sore and went back up into my head and ear (plugging it yet again), so I'm in a worse position, especially since they won't let me have Emergen-c. If I ever started feeling a cold coming on, I would pump myself full of that, and it would go away, but apparently it has too many no-no ingredients according to my doctor, so she won't let me have it.
Oh well. I will enjoy my orange juice, hot tea, and yogurt smoothies.
apricot / 448 posts
@luckypenny: oh okay, thanks! I really don't see us spending the money on it either, but put it on the registry juuuust incase someone wanted to buy it! The snugabunny is cute, I've seen it a few times, and that is a great price... I just don't know if I should get a swing or a bouncer...I'll have to figure this out soon!
@megz06: That is what my mom is saying too! I'll take a look at the swing version... I think I've only seen the bouncer.

@jhd: Thank you!
@jill_a55: Just in case you'd like the link, here is what we ordered. A bit pricey (to me) but mama says its worth it, lol. http://www.diapers.com/p/fisher-price-my-little-snugapuppy-cradle-n-swing-835905
By the way, if you order online, Diapers.Com was amazing. At first they sent us Rainforest friends instead of Snugapuppy, and not only did they ship a new one out immediately (and it came to us within 2 days), they gave us a $10 credit AND a handwritten note a week later thanking me for the order and apologizing for the mixup. Definitely superb customer service.

Had my 35 week dr appointment and nst this morning. Almost failed the nst but the little guy decided to cooperate.
I met with the dr doing my c section. She's excited to be doing it because she's the one who was with us when I delivered S so it's a nice full circle for us. If I go in labor before then it's a slim chance she'll be doing it but now the plan is c section no matter what, even though LO is no longer breech.
Only 3 weeks and 5 days to go!
