April 2014 Mamas!

@LovelyPlum: @preggomeggo82: hooray for shower stuff!!

my shower is almost here--feb 23! I can't wait, I think it's going to be really, really nice. The planning has been a little weird though--I feel like I've gotten pulled into it too much! My mom, sil, and bff are throwing it, and my sil and bff haven't pulled me in for their parts (decorations and games) but my mother (dealing with logistics/everything else) will. not. stop. asking. me. things! Like, stupid things, like what kind of disposable plates/cups/napkins/etc I want. It's sweet I guess because she just wants me to be happy with everything, but it ends up putting the work on me since I end up having to search for things for her. And on one hand I have zero opinion, and I tell her to consult with my sil since they sort of fall into the decor category, but my mom would rather bother me than her I guess, they have a kind of awkward relationship. Which is too bad because I completely trust my sil's style, but my mom ends up suggesting horrible, horrible, bad taste things (like black plastic utensils when everything else is pastel green and purple because it's a "contrast?" umm, no that's just ugly, haha). I think it's finally stopped (everything has been taken care of, fingers crossed...), but the result of all this consulting is that dh and I are ending up in charge of kind of a lot of things: I ended up managing the invites/rsvp list bc my mom couldn't figure out how to do a Paperless Post invite (ie, all the responses come to me and yet people think they're emailing her...awkward), dh is in charge of the drinks (we're making a couple brunchy mocktails, with vodka on the side for people to add if they want), and I'm going to end up making the favors (homemade salted caramel)...Plus I basically picked out all the paperware, and approved the menu...Oh well, hopefully it won't come across as me planning my own shower?

@preggomeggo82: those are so cute! Mine is an "April showers bring Baby ____" theme-so it has a stormy background with bright blue rain drops and a yellow umbrella/ducks. It's a very small shower, just family and two friends, but it should be exciting

@Dandelion: you can come to my house and nest-it's a MESS

Sooo, I don't know if you all saw this on the main boards or not, but there is a Kate Spade surprise sale today. If anyone's looking for a diaper bag, there's a bunch on there...

    http://surprise.katespade.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-KateSale-Site/en_US/Search-Show?cgid=ks-view-all

I'm currently trying to decide if I want to get this one: http://surprise.katespade.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-KateSale-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=WKRU2356 I like it better than the bag that we are currently registered for, and it is now comparably priced. I just can't get myself to pull the trigger quite yet!

@nana87: Well, it'll all work out...black tableware or not, lol. Last year my MIL and mom were throwing my shower and used me as an inbetween for their communication. I finally had to say to just TALK to each OTHER. What is so hard about that? lol

It's so funny...I'm not having a shower this year, but I've gotten more stuff for LO than I did with a shower for S, lol. I thought S ended up with a ton of clothes, but LO has a LOT!

@LovelyPlum: I'd love a Kate Spade bag, but I cannot even afford it with a sale, lol. I doubt I can talk my mom or MIL into gifting it to me, lol

@Dandelion: oh trust me, generally I am right there with you. I think my most expensive bag is a $95 dollar North Face backpack that I bought 4 years ago and have been beating the crap out of daily since then. I pretty much only carry Target purses. DH did say, though, that I can get a bag to do double duty as a diaper bag/pump bag for work, and this one seems like it would fit the bill. I don't know that I can bring myself to do it quite yet, because it IS a lot of money. But I might. It's so tempting...

@nana87: oh, shower planning...I'm so sorry, what a pain. I have been completely left in the dark with this one, other than I know that it's at my grandma's, and that we're doing brunch. I made my mom promise not to let it stress her out, not to spend too much, etc. She did promise, but now I think they're having fun. So more power to them, I guess

@Dandelion: that's so sweet, though! LO doesn't have many clothes yet, but I have a feeling it's coming.

Also, I'm at home today, and I just looked on the bed-my dog has discovered my body pillow. I've been trying to keep it away from her, because she likes to co-opt pillows, but apparently I didn't move it quickly enough today. Whoops

@LovelyPlum: that is an awesome deal! my mil gifted me a kate spade stevie diaper bag for my birthday (on sale from the holidays), and it looks amazing, I can't wait to use it! it's so smartly designed-- stroller straps, lots and lots of pockets, etc etc...And the material looks like it'll be easy to clean. I def recommend it even though I haven't started using it yet!

@LovelyPlum: I have a Kate Spade baby bag and looooove it! My husband got it for me for my birthday from a sample sale. It's a Barrow Street Anabelle tote - very simple, lots of interior space. Can't wait to use it!

@LovelyPlum: being in the dark about the shower is great! I didn't know a thing about my bridal shower except where it was and the guest list, and the surprise ended up being amazing. Oooooh well! and hahaha about dog stealing your body pillow. my dogs LOVE my snoogle. they sleep in our bed, and the second I get up to pee in the middle of the night at least one if not both of them steal it!

@Dandelion: it'll def work out, I think/hope she's done asking me stuff... that must have been so annoying to be in the middle of mom/mil communications!

@nana87: this pup is a *very* large reason I waited so long to get the pillow-I knew I would just end up fighting her for it. She's such a goofball.

@nana87: how exciting your shower is so soon! our dog is only allowed on the bed if i'm taking a nap. he's too big to share the bed with all night, but he is constantly stealing my spot on the couch and my pillows etc. i can't imagine what he will do when LO arrives. probably steal his blanket and try to sneak in his room to sleep on his rug!

Hi Everyone! I've been completely MIA and need to catch up, but I hope everyone's last few weeks have been good!!

I had my shower on Saturday! My sister and SIL threw it for me, with help from my mom and it was so nice! Everyone brought wipes or diapers to be entered into a drawing for a prize, so I have a nice little stash going now! Was gifted a lot of great things and double gifted a bunch, so now I'm in the exchanges mode and starting to fill in what we didn't receive.

@nana87: I was being pulled into planning the shower.. more just so they planned things I liked, which was nice, but it was during a very emotional/hormonal week for me and I had a total meltdown.. that relieved me of any duties I was given. lol

@LovelyPlum: That is such a cute bag and an amazing price!!! I was gifted a kate spade diaper bag and it is amazing and gorgeous! I can't wait to use it! I'm sure you will love that bag!!

Is anyone starting to get nervous about how close we are?! I just hit 32 weeks yesterday and am starting to get very anxious.

@nana87: Your shower is the day after mine! I hope yours goes well too. I can relate on getting pulled in. They want my opinion on everything from food to cake (which, like you, they just want me to be happy), and then they tell me everything they are doing, and I'm like, "Don't tell me! I want it to be a surprise!" That and everyone keeps calling me to RSVP instead of my BFF.

@jill_a55: Glad you had a great baby shower! I am not nervous about the delivery portion. I was before I got pregnant, but now I'm ready. Plus every labor and delivery is different, and I don't know what to expect so I'm trying not to think about it too much. I will say I'm nervous to bring baby home. I still feel so unsure about how to do anything, but perhaps I will just "know" what to do like they say

My chiropractor appt last week did nothing for my pain, so I was recommended to the physical therapist in my clinic, and he gave me some stretches to do before my appt with him Monday to help loosen up my muscles. I seriously am in more pain than I was prior to doing the stretches. Everything just burned last night.

My WORST news (well, not the worst but certainly not good) is that, as of yesterday, I have no doctor to deliver my son, lol. I can laugh about it now, but yesterday I was a pissy, hormonal mess. The delivery doc that was suppose to take me in will be out on medical leave during the time I give birth, so they didn't want to set me up with him if he wasn't going to be there anyway. The receptionist is like, "I can set you up with any doctor." I chose one and she is like, "Oh, she is too booked up." I chose another one. "His policy states you needed to have established care from the beginning." I felt like telling her, "Ok, so then you saying ANY doctor will take me in is untrue. Just give me a freaking doctor that can catch, lady!"

I ended up leaving a message on one of the doc's phones stating my situation. Hopefully they get back to me today and tell me that I can come in for care.

Honestly, I am not one of those women who is concerned about who delivers my baby. The doctors barely do squat anyway (the doc my mom was cared by ended up not delivering me and I turned out just fine) it's the nurses that do everything. I just need a doctor to catch, and I KNOW that, no matter if I find someone to "establish" care with this late in the game, someone will have to deliver my baby the day I go in. It just sucks that 8 1/2 weeks before my son is born I have to jump through hoops to find someone when I told them just give me to anyone willing to take me. Stressful!

@jill_a55: I'm glad you had a good shower! I feel you on freaking out a little bit. I'm 33 weeks on Friday and still haven't done much for baby. I also think that because we are moving and team green I just don't want to buy a lot/set up stuff since its only for two months. We have 7 outfits, swaddle blankets and a mini crib (that mil still has to bring over).

@megz06: oh man. I would have freaked out. But it's so true, we filmed DDs birth (the last 5 minutes) and my OB came in around minute 3. So literally 2 minutes and that's it. Regardless, I would be stressing out if my OB cancelled this late. Im sorry lady. Hope everything works out!

Eta: also, ill probably be Mia for a bit. DD has whooping cough and now I'm sick. Damn this compromised immune system!! I've never gotten sick this often before in my whole life. Doc said we just have to let it ride out. So I'm changing sheets & doing laundry constantly because she coughs so hard she vomits all over every thing. My poor baby so we will be spending all our days in bed watching the little mermaid and "finding memo" I hope we are better in time for my sprinkle Saturday but probably not. Sigh.

@jill_a55: so glad you had a great shower! yay for lots of diapers & wipes! it hits me sometimes that this baby is coming soon...i'm mostly just worried about labor (my water breaking at school or it being super duper long and painful, etc.) not so much worried about coming home. my parents are close by and my mom will help if needed or give us space if needed.

@megz06: i hope the PT stuff helps. and that stinks about your doctor. i hope you get everything figured out soon.

Good news is I DID find a doctor The nurse of the doc I called yesterday call me back and said they'd be happy to take me on. It's a relief to know I have someone, whether he deliver or not. I've seen him before, a few years ago for something unrelated to pregnancy, and I remember him being hilarious, which is exactly the doctor I am looking for.

So excited! Our nursery furniture is being delivered Monday! First shower is Sunday! I can't wait!

AND we finally picked a pediatrician. I feel like we're actually going to be halfway ready for this kid to get here.

Question for the group: At what point do you or have you packed your hospital bag? DH is getting nervous that I haven't started yet. He's made me promise that I will at least put some things together this weekend.

    He's nesting, it's adorable.

@preggomeggo82: My two cents? you're not going to use half the stuff you pack. Granted, I had a normal vaginal birth and left after 24 hours so I just needed the travel toiletries and baby's and my going home outfit. But all the snacks/drinks/chapstick/etc? Never touched them.

@megz06: so glad you found a doctor! that's exactly the kind of unnecessary stress none of us needs at this point!

@luckypenny: I hope you and dd feel better soon!!

@preggomeggo82: oh gosh, I haven't thought about a hospital bag at all yet. I'm still traveling back and forth biweekly for my work trips and then home for dr's appointments, so I def will not be thinking about that until I'm home for good, which will be around 34 weeks (unless I give up on trying to get this out-of-town work done sooner...I really want to just be home!!)

@jill_a55: I'm not really anxious yet, but I'm more focused on what I need to do workwise in the next month-ish so that I can then focus on baby. I'm sure I will be at that point!

I haven't hit the "I'm ready to be done with being pregnant" phase yet that some of you were talking about, but I'm definitely getting to the point where I'm done with these dissertation research trips, I just want to go home and finish nesting! My hips are really hurting today, I have an icky cold, and commuting (both between NYC and Boston, and between our temporary home in Boston and the library where I'm working from) is making me so, so sooooo tired!

I saw the endocrinologist today for my diabetes before the snow hit bad. DH drove me up there. My sugars have been really good since starting insulin but she wants my levels even lower because of my past history of bad pregnancy outcomes (preemie and a demise). So she upped my dosage just a bit. I'm glad DH was there cause it would have been a lot of info I would have had to relay back to him.

He says he's going to my appointments from here on out, so I'm excited about that. I have a lot so it'll be nice to have the company.

@Dandelion: I'm glad you made it up there and that they're being careful! It's really nice when you don't have to do it all alone, so I'm glad that your DH could come.

@jill_a55: I'm glad you had a great shower! I'm getting a little nervous, but not too anxious yet. I'm more worried that baby won't flip in time, but I'm trying to remember that we have time.

@luckypenny: you, my friend, have not had good luck with illnesses this winter. I hope that you and DD feel better soon! Are you still planning on babymooning?

@megz06: I'm so glad that you found a doctor! And I'm hopeful that PT will work for you. I've been going for the past 5 weeks for my hip, and it's starting to really help. Granted, it hurts like heck when I do it, and I'm sore afterwards. But, I've noticed that I'm getting stronger in my core, and the pain is less on a day to day basis. Both are good things!

@preggomeggo82: congrats on the furniture and the pedi! We really don't have much done yet still, though we're now on a daycare waiting list. I'm also going to go call a pedi today to see about meeting them. I'm a little worried about picking a doctor for the baby, but I have to remember that if we don't like our first choice, we're not wedded to them.

@nana87: lady, I don't know how you're doing it. I'm not "over" pregnancy quite yet, but I am constantly exhausted. And, I haven't been sleeping terribly well, which makes everything really hard. I slept for a good long while last night though (2 hours, wake up, 5 more hours), so I'm feeling human today. But I will be glad when things can settle a bit and I can relax and concentrate on this baby!

  31. megz06

@preggomeggo82: I am a chronic overpacker, and I can foresee myself packing way too much junk I won't need too. DH hasn't been bothering me about a hospital bag yet, but I will probably have mine ready to go at about 34 weeks which will be exactly March 1 (since I'm measuring a week ahead as well).

@nana87: Thank you! I'm very relieved!

@Dandelion: Good luck with future appointments. It's nice to see DH going with you. I don't have the appts you do, but DH has opted not to come to any more appts because now we have to take full days off for them since I'm being transferred. He wants to save all those days for when baby comes. I get it, but I'm still sad I have to drive all that way alone.

@LovelyPlum: Thanks! I am doing the stretches, and I definitely feel I am looser, but sleeping has gotten worse now. Because of stretching, the pain is now radiating heat through my thigh at night. I am thinking I need some Biofreeze at night, which my doc said was ok to use.

Whelp, we got our birthing class out of the way. I have to say, it wasn't anything earth-shattering, but I'm glad that we went. And now, it's crossed off the list, so I can get on to other things, like finally picking our pedi. Time is getting short!

Hope you ladies are having a good weekend!

  35. megz06

    apricot / 335 posts

@LovelyPlum: Glad your birthing class went well.

Had my PT appointment this morning. Hurt like hell when he found the tender spots. He said those spots are pretty inflamed, so he gave me another stretch to do and a tube of thera-ice to massage in before bed. He said we should at least be able to get this to a bearable state where I can get an extra hour or two of sleep.

Last nights sleep sucked anyway because baby hadn't moved much yesterday, so I spent most of my night tossing and turning. I also dreamt I was having labor pains, and I don't know if my body reacted for real to them, but I would feel pain through my dream and they hurt. Does that make sense? I've also been getting some lovely first tri symptoms: sore nipples, food aversions, and nausea.

With me worrying about baby I drank a glass of OJ and laid on the couch this morning before work to see if I could feel him move. He gave me a few short little bumps, but nothing like usual. Once I got my PT appointment and he put heat on my back, little guy went crazy, so he must have just been cold I'm hoping he keeps up normal movement now. If he doesn't I am going to get in right away. Otherwise I'm just going to address it at my appt next Tuesday.

    How was everyone's weekend?

Ours was pretty relaxed. We met up with DH's parents for lunch yesterday after church and MIL brought 5 outfits for baby for next winter. And on Saturday we bought a lamp for the nursery and a pair of pjs for baby boy for the hospital/going home.

Oh and Saturday night I had my first experience with baby hiccups. I totally started to cry after it went on for several minutes because I was worried he must be getting uncomfortable. Crazy pregnant lady emotions!

  38. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@megz06: Thanks, lady. I'm glad that PT went well! How are you feeling this morning? And I'm sorry about LO not moving very much-that is so scary. How has baby been today?

@jhd: thanks! I'm glad it's done, honestly. Though the after-effects weren't great, to be honest-I was so tired that I had BH contractions pretty much all night and the next day as well. I joked that if the birthing class sent me into labor, I was going to be mad What coming home outfit did you end up choosing? And no worries on the hiccups, Mama-they're starting to practice breathing now!

So we are in the middle of the move now. We got the keys to the new apartment on Friday (yay!), and we're slowly cleaning and moving things over. I thought having the two week overlap would be a good idea. I think it still is, but I did not anticipate that my things would be strewn between two places for two weeks, and it is starting to make me a little nuts. I'm also worried about DH, because he's doing a lot of the heavy lifting himself, because he won't let me do it. We have friends coming Saturday to help, which will be really good. I'm hoping by that point I can have some things packed for them to take over. I'm glad we're moving, but sheesh! This is hard.

  39. megz06

    apricot / 335 posts

@LovelyPlum: Baby is moving a lot more now, so I am breathing a sigh of relief. Perhaps he just getting into a sleep pattern? I am happy to report that I slept amazing last night. I did some light stretching before bed and massaged some thera-ice into my hips and butt. I mean, I wake up every two hours to pee, but I had an easier time getting back to sleep and I didn't start hurting until about 4 this morning (usually it starts at 2) so, in my eyes, I got an extra 2 hours of peaceful rest last night. If this can continue, I should be rested up enough for my baby shower this weekend!

And moving sucks! I can't imagine moving while pregnant. It will get better though. Hopefully your DH takes it easy a bit since he's doing so much lifting himself (better him than you though of course). He needs a nice back rub

@jhd: sounds like a nice weekend! and aww about crying about baby hiccups! I'm sure he's perfectly comfy

@LovelyPlum: ugh, I hate moving! I always think an overlap will be better as well, and it always ends up driving me crazy in the end.

@megz06: so glad baby is moving more, and that you got a better night's rest!

So, I definitely think I've been looking very pregnant for awhile, but I guess I'm still not huge: one of the staff members where I've been doing research who I've seen and talked to every day for the past month told me today that she JUST noticed I'm pregnant and said congrats--weird, right?? I'm glad I haven't had bad swelling yet, but I kind of want my bump to be bigger and more obvious!

We had a pretty quiet weekend and are getting ready to head back home on Thursday night for what will be a huge weekend: our shower plus an all-day childbirth class! We have family coming into town for the shower so it'll be jam-packed. I'm so excited but also a little worried that it'll all be exhausting, I'll have to schedule some nap times in there so I'm not drooping during the shower!
