April 2014 Mamas!

Terrible nausea is back! It was so bad today I wasn't sure I could survive the work day. My OB said nausea in 3rd tri could be caused by heartburn or acid reflux. That's probably all it is but I never have that so I don't even know what that feels like. (I realize that sounds stupid!) I picked up some tums and Zantac on the way home. Then I realized my doc said take Pepcid. So I have only taken a tums. What do you ladies take for heartburn?

@jhd: booo nausea! I've had heartburn like crazy lately, and my dr okayed tums, zantac, and pepcid, so you should be good! I usually use tums first and then if it doesn't go away after awhile or it comes back after a couple hours, I take zantac

@jhd: ugh, back here too, and it's awful. I'm over it. I used to take Zantac, but pregnancy flared up my acid reflux, so now I'm on Prilosec, with a hefty side dose of Tums. Try taking it in the morning, on an empty stomach. Give yourself 30 minutes for maximum effectiveness, and it should help. It will help any time, but my PCP said that it works best on an empty stomach. And hang in there!

So I've been contracting every 10-15 minutes for about 90 minutes. Trying to figure out what to do here...

@Dandelion: so glad! Out of curiosity, how do you almost fail an NST? I figured that there was passing, but I wasn't sure what "failing" would look like. Either way, glad LO is strong and healthy!

@LovelyPlum: He just wasn't very energetic. They want a certain amount of movement paired with his heartbeat increasing a certain amount of times. If I fail, I go to the hospital and get the 2 hour NST there, which would probably just waste everyone's time, lol.

Once he woke up and started bopping around, he passed.

@Dandelion: gotcha! Glad that he woke up and started moving

@Dandelion: glad mama and baby are doing good!

I had my appt today - ultrasound to check baby is head down and it is! And DD loved looking at the monitor and listening to the heartbeat. She's getting pretty excited. I can't wait to see how she interacts with baby also, got my group b strep test today and I was going to get my tdap but surprise! I'm sick YET AGAIN so we are waiting until next week. Ughh.

On a good note, I'm 36 weeks tomorrow! Ahhhh! Time is FLYING

Ok, so sorta false alarm. I'm been having what I thought were contractions on and off since 6:30. I am also nauseous as all heck. I putzed around the house and tried to get comfortable (not easy) and tried to see if anything made them better or worse, etc. Sitting made them go away, so I figured they were BH. Well, then they didn't go away anymore. I took two Tylenol and laid down, figuring if in an hour they were still going, I'd head to L+D. By this time, it was 8, and DH was getting a little freaked out. Not going to lie, so was I.

Then it happened: I burped a huge burp, and I instantly felt so much better. And then I burped for about half an hour straight, and the pain in my belly and back subsided a LOT. So, joke is on me: it was some contractions, but a lot of gas. That is a little embarrassing .

Still in a lot of.discomfort, though. If the Gas X doesn't help, or they come back, we might go in anyways. I'm not ready for this...

@LovelyPlum: hahahaha glad it was just some gas little baby needs to stay cookin for a few more weeks!

Still uncomfortable this morning Really sore, and I've had a bunch of BH as well. Baby is moving well, which is great. We will see how I do at work today. I really just want to go back to bed!

  20. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@megz06: @jhd: @luckypenny: thanks, ladies Sorry to be such a whiner-I didn't expect to feel this way! DH actually said to me at one point last night, "be honest with me-are we having a baby tonight?" and I didn't know how to answer. He was scared out of his mind, but he was so super sweet.

Given the lack of a pattern, I'm reasonably certain that these are just really strong BH. BUT, I'm not going to be surprised if this baby decides not to hang around until April. That's a little bit of a bummer, because DH has off for a full week in April and could be home with us. But my spring break starts in 10 days, so then would be good for other reasons. Who knows? It's not like baby is going to conform to my schedule, anyways

  21. LovelyPlum

@luckypenny: did you say you updated over here? It didn't post!

  22. nana87

    cantaloupe / 6171 posts

@LovelyPlum: oh goodness lady, that sounds like it would be stressful! not that I have any experience with contractions or labor yet, but the doula who led our childbirth class said consistency and a discernible pattern in the the contractions and that they don't stop no matter what you do (change positions, etc) are the biggest differences between "real" labor and BH. whether or not baby comes early though, it sounds like spring break can't come soon enough!

It's been a much better few days here since getting the news on Monday that my fluid levels are higher. I'm still taking it easy and hydrating tons, but I've felt like I can be more productive/normal. We finally have a tentative delivery date for our nursery furniture later in March (that was a whole long fiasco--basically, we ordered a color that they don't make, and it's taken over 2 months for them to figure out their mistake and now we're getting a different color...boooo!). I figured out my insurance's system of getting a breast pump for free from them on Sunday, and it already arrived yesterday! amazingly fast! And I had a meeting with my university department's administrator to try to figure out what my teaching responsibilities will be in the fall. It's not finalized yet, but it was a good meeting! We don't know if we're going to have child care lined up or not which is super frustrating, especially since I might have to teach: the centers around us all have college-like admissions, where you apply in the fall/winter for September start-dates, and they each only take very few infants. We didn't get in outright to any, which is super frustrating, but hopefully we'll get in off wait lists...

I finally got my car vacuumed and installed the car seat today! Yay! I felt ready for this kid before, but now I feel finished ready, haha.

Today I found some new-in-package a&a swaddling blankets at Goodwill for just $15! I was stoked! I had been wanting some, but couldn't justify dropping the full retail price on them. I'm super thrilled with my find!

@Dandelion: whoa!! What a find! I'm jealous! I installed our infant base but I have to get the car cleaned. It's a mess back there

  25. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@luckypenny: Yeah, ours was, too, cause the dogs had to go to the vet on Friday. I had to get all their hair off the seats and slime off the windows, lol.

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@nana87: I'm glad that things are going well, though the daycare sounds frustrating. We're still on waiting lists, too, but there's not that many families in front of us. I'm hopeful we get in!

@Dandelion: Score on the A+A! I'm going to pick some up at some point, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

@luckypenny: @Dandelion: our car is in a perpetual state of covered in dog hair. I had it cleaned about 3 weeks ago, but I need to do it again before baby comes. We did get it washed, though-the salt was NASTY on the outside!

Our weekend was really nice. My sister came yesterday to bring up/help us set up the crib, and we got the nursery portion of the room almost done. I am just waiting on our crib sheet to be delivered, and I have to finish making the second mobile. Other than that, though, it's done, and I am in love. I'll post pics when I get it finished!

Also, today, 3 friends were supposed to come over to hang out and play board games. Instead, 8 of them showed up at our door and threw us a surprise shower. I was shocked! They brought food and beer and gifts and hand-me-downs...seriously, it was amazing. We got lots of things we still needed (RnP, Angelcare monitor, Moby) and a gift card, and it all came *completely* out of the blue. DH and I were blown away. We have awesome friends

The not so fun news of the day is that I am rocking cankles, and I've had headaches off and on all day. I have an appointment tomorrow, and I'm a little anxious about the blood pressure/protein in the urine situation. Hopefully, I'm just being paranoid, but I want this babe to cook a little while longer.

I hope that you're all doing well

@LovelyPlum: I'm glad you got your appointment tomorrow! Hopefully things won't be too severe for you. I got a little swollen after walking around all day today but nothing too bad.

@Dandelion: what an awesome goodwill find!! we had my car serviced & detailed this weekend but I think the carseat will be installed in DH's car first. so I guess I will be cleaning out his car next weekend!!

@LovelyPlum: how sweet of your friends!!! and try not to worry about tomorrow.

We had a mostly relaxing weekend. Today was the first day since last Sat that I didn't have terrible nausea...really hoping for another good day tomorrow. I have tons to get done at school, especially the next two weeks. But I'm making progress on my baby to do list so that helps. Hospital bag is mostly packed, got my tdap, and talked to another local lactation consultant who was super friendly & helpful.

@Dandelion: thanks. I really hope that I'm overreacting, but I know that it's better to be safe than sorry.

In other news, I'm due in ONE MONTH.

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@jhd: sounds like a productive weekend. I hope that your nausea goes away soon. I had to break out the Zofran last week, but it seems to be less constant than in the first tri, so I'll take it. When is your last day of work?

  31. jhd

    coconut / 8079 posts

@LovelyPlum: I haven't set a last day yet. But I wonder if it would help mentally! I am in charge of National Honor Society at my school and the ceremony for new members is March 21...parents, school board members, entire student body. It is a huge process to choose new members etc so my new goal as of today is just to make it through the next two weeks and then see how I feel.

  32. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@jhd: good call. That sounds like a do-able goal. Then maybe you can find a light at the end of the tunnel!

@LovelyPlum: wow! How nice of your friends to surprise you with a shower!! I'm glad you and baby are getting to feel so celebrated did you get results back from doctor yet?

    @jhd: what a productive weekend!

I got my group b strep results back as NEGATIVE so that's good! I'm planning a natural birth so not having the IV is great. I couldn't get my tdap at last appointment because, surprise!, I'm sick again with bronchitis and on antibiotics for the second time this pregnancy DD is also having to do albuterol breathing treatments which make her super speedy and shake and she's scared of the machine so I basically cry giving it to her every 4 hours. This also means no one has slept in days and I'm just plain exhausted. I can't imagine getting sick one more time this pregnancy. DH and I have been fighting too because he's tired and resentful that because I'm pregnant I can be "more tired" and that makes me mad because yeah! I'm freaking 36 weeks pregnant and caring for a toddler all day! Ughh I'm just ready to meet my baby in a few weeks and get my body/immune system/energy back. /end rant

    Hello all!

Has anyone had a prenatal massage? I have one scheduled for Saturday and have no idea what to expect.

@luckypenny: that's great news about group b strep but how awful you & DD are sick again!!! I hope you both feel better very soon.

@preggomeggo82: I haven't had a prenatal massage but I'm sure it will be wonderful!! Enjoy!

@luckypenny: I did, thanks-group B negative, and no protein in my urine-YAY. BP a little high for me but the swelling went down a bit this morning. And while I'm still 1 cm, I'm 60% effaced and -2 station. So, babe and Mama both look good. I'm relieved.

I'm so sorry you're sick That sounds awful.

@preggomeggo82: I have not, but it sounds DIVINE. I'm thinking I'm going to schedule a pedi closer to my due date, if I get the chance. The leg massage sounds amazing.

@LovelyPlum: Super fun and nice of your friends to throw you guys a shower!

@luckypenny: Sorry you're still sick! I hope you feel better soon. I just got over my cold, so I feel 10x better this week.

Had my appointment yesterday, and man, cervix checks hurt, lol. Baby is head down, high up, and I am softening, but not yet dialated. I totally LOVE my doctor as well. Hilarious guy. He even helped fan me off after I was dying of heat stroke in the exam room, haha.

I also got to talk to a healthy beginnings nurse who gave me a LOT of good information on breast feeding and what to expect with my LO after he's born.

She also told me DH gets one complimentary meal of his choice from the hospital, and after finding out my breast pump wasn't covered by ACA he said he is going to "demand" steak and lobster, lol. I told him one, it isn't their fault, and two, I don't think I'd eat hospital steak... :-\

  40. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@megz06: I'm so glad to hear that you like the doctor! And I agree-cervical checks are not spectacular. Though I will say, I think they hurt less now than they used to (I had to get one around 25 weeks, and he spent a good 30 seconds digging for my cervix-ouch). When will you have your next one? I won't have another one until 39 weeks.

One thing I did find out is that there are actually 4 doctors at my practice who take call, plus a midwife. I know (and love!) 2 of the doctors, and the midwife is also really awesome. I have never met one of the other ones, and I'm not wild about the last doc. But, I'm told they're all good, if not all the same personality type. I'm trying not to worry about it. After all, I have a 3/5 chance of getting someone I know if I go on my own. Hopefully, it won't be a big deal!
