    @Mrs. Sunshine: what's a sip & see? Is it a post-birth party?

  4. NeekieRose

    persimmon / 1386 posts

@SunshineMcC: Yup! Kinda like an open house after the baby is born. "Sip" some refreshments and "see" the new baby. I got so excited last night when I told DH that we are going to have one. His response "you women and your names for everything!"...haha

@SunshineMcC: yep that's exactly what it is! We didn't have one with DD but I definitely want to do one this time around.

Anyone had any lightheadedness/shakey hands? I had it this morning for the first time after breakfast. I dont' think it was blood sugar related, maybe blood pressure?

  7. Mrs. Sunshine

    hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts

@Banana330: yep! I've been getting it randomly for a few weeks. Sometimes it's when I'm hungry so I know it's my blood sugar but last week I was just sitting there & suddenly felt very lightheaded , almost like I had a buzz, for nearly 5 minutes. No shaking that time though. I also had it a few times with my first. I never mentioned it at an appointment though so I'm no help lol i should probably say something at my appointment next week!

@Mrs. Sunshine: Good to know i'm not the only one! It's such a weird feeling. I'd like to just lie down somewhere but i'm at work.

    hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts

@Banana330: yeah it happens to me often when I'm having a period too which is why I don't feel alarmed by it I guess. Sometimes my hands shake so bad I can't use them for a minute or two & then it passes. It's really strange

@NeekieRose: love the sip and see idea! i'm sure everyone is pumped to meet the new babe. question for you. my mom just emailed me and said she has enough airmiles to get something for the baby. this is on the list:
    https://www.airmiles.ca/arrow/RewardsProductDetails?productId=prod2254334
do you think it's comparable to the motorola monitor you have? the screen is the same size and it looks similar. think i should go for that?

@Banana330: i don't get shakey hands but i'm definitely a bit light headed pretty often. i chalk it up to needing to eat/drink more water... that usually helps. but i generally just don't feel like myself!

@loki: Yup, that looks like it! If anything, it looks like maybe the newer model. Even better!

Thank you girls for all your positive thoughts and prayers. Our ultrasound went well today, there were no markers for T18 seen which the geneticist was really happy about. She said that often T18 can be detected through ultrasound alone so this bodes well in our favour. Our next step is an amino Tuesday or Panorama which is covered since I screened positive. I know amino is 100% detection but Panorama is just a screen (although it has very high detection rates too). I have a few days to make a decision. I don't like the idea of amino for a number of reasons but am not sure what I will do. I am trying to be confident that there is a high chance everything is fine. I hate this waiting game though. Thanks everyone.

@delight: wow great news about the ultrasound. can't give you advice for moving forward but i know you guys will make the right choice for you and little one. i'm just so happy things went well today

@delight: That's great news on the ultrasound! Good luck with phase two of testing. I'm sure it's not an easy decision to make, but whatever you choose will be best for you. The waiting game in pregnancy is the worst! Hopefully it won't be too much longer until you have some answers.

@delight: My understanding is that with tests like panorama is that they look at each chromosome and is just as useful in diagnosis as amnio, it just takes longer to get results back. After my friend had t18 markers she did the blood test and got a negative result for t18.

Well ladies I called and harrassed the midwife. And we're having a GIRL!

I actually started crying when I told DH. I didn't expect it to be such an emotional moment. I don't think many people will be surprise since everyone seems to be guessing girl.

Now all I want to do is go and buy all the girl clothes!

@Loki @Banana330 @Marionberry: congratulations on your little girls and boys! It really does make it seem more real knowing the sex.

Also, DH felt the baby move for the first time on Tuesday morning. Well, it was sort of morning, about 1:30 am. We were both awake and jet-lagged so were reading on bed, and baby gave a couple of hard kicks. DH was close enough that time that I could grab his hand and put it on my belly. He was pretty stoked! Now he keeps asking me if baby is awake or not, cause he wants to feel more! So cute! I keep thinking of him holding his son's little hand soon, and tear up!

Haven't been on all week because the firewalls in Turkey block this site. Not sure why. So many other (questionable) websites are wide open. We landed in Athens this morning, so I have full access to the web again! Been busy catching up.

On the topic of weight gain/food aversions, I MAY have gained 1-2 lbs (now at 20w) but it wasn't due to any loss in the first tri. The food aversions have been making the babymoon really challenging. Couldn't hardly eat anything in Turkey. Greece is much easier for me, but there was an old man on the metro today with a big bag of clams, and it was so warm and stuffy already. I broke out in a sweat, and struggled through a couple of those dry heaves, where I'm trying not to throw up. On another note, DH said today he can't tell when I'm close to barfing and when I'm just burbing. Guess it all sounds and looks the same? How attractive! Glad he loves me regardless!!!

And last but certainly not least...

@Delight: my heart goes out to you guys. So much to process and worry over. I'm glad your us went well, and I hope that your next round of testing further relieves your mind.

I am feeling like such a beast with my weight gain (12 pounds @17 weeks) given that others have gained so little! Man, here's hoping it slows its roll. Although I was 50 up by the time I gave birth to LO #1 so I'm not expecting any miracles!

  37. meredithNYC

    pomegranate / 3314 posts

Oh! And I should add that my AS is on 11/18. My tech told me she's sure LO is a boy at my 12 week scan, but that's SO early that I didn't put much stock in that one.

@Astro Bee: so cool that DH felt baby move . I can't wait for that over here! Every time I feel something when DH is around, I grab his hand to put on my belly, but nothing yet!

I started a Pinterest board last night for a nursery and am having so much fun thinking about it and planning. Am so excited to see baby at our AS on Tuesday. It's been 8 weeks since our scan, so really excited to see him. I love when he moves and am hoping for more so I can feel more connected to him. It's a little hard without movement or scans. Anyone else feel that way?

@meredithNYC: yay! We're AS date twins. I'm do excited for it!! We know it's a boy but I just can't wait to see him again and am hoping and praying all looks good and healthy!

@meredithNYC: we were told my son was bit at 13 weeks and they were right. I believed them after the 4th ultrasound since 13 weeks.

Updates: anatomy scan yesterday and it is a girl. And I have an anterior placenta so no baby kicks for a while. I suspect I had an anterior placenta with my son as well so I'm not expecting much for a while.

Moved to a midwife and birth center for care so we are done with ultrasounds as long as everything goes well.
