@Banana330: I finally took another pump pic, and although in the day to day I feel like it is bigger (and DH tells me it is), in the picture, it doesn't look much bigger than 4 weeks ago at 17 weeks.

i totally feel like my bump comes and goes! it gets bigger throughout the day so by bedtime i feel like it's HUGE! i hate when it looks small again, i just wanna make progress haha.
i still have that left side pain most of the time... i'm not sure if it's RLP... but it's always there and so bizarre. i had a pelvic ultrasound though and they said everything looks fine so i'm just chalking it up to a normal pregnancy annoyance.

There are some good deals on blackout curtains in Zulily today for those of you looking for some!

@Mrs. Sunshine: Sorry to hear about the painful contractions - I'd probably call my doc just for peace of mind. I am having the RL pain too - depending on the day, sometimes it's more persistent than others.
I think I'm popping even more - this morning when I woke up (lying on my back - oops), I swear the belly felt more round. It looks a little lopsided, and someone at work said maybe the lopsided part is because of where his bum is! I love it!
I had my first pregnancy emotional meltdown this morning. I was on the phone with my dad talking about Thanksgiving plans - my MIL wants to go out to dinner for ease and b/c it's a small group, and my dad wasn't keen on the idea - we were talking about it and the conversation wasn't going well, and I burst into tears and told him I was really upset and didn't want to talk any more. I then called my mom's cell phone and cried for 10 minutes about it! Now, I'm like - um, it'll be fine whatever we do for dinner - but in the moment I was SO upset and couldn't stop crying! Goodness!!
AS is tomorrow and I'm so excited, but also a little nervous too - praying all goes well!

@Banana330: haha your comment about the baby being sneaky reminded me of the 'babies like to breathe' scene out of 'Away we go'... gosh I love that movie, might have to watch it again with DH over the holidays!
@SunshineMcC: for exercise I am mostly just doing yoga and walking also. I do two yoga classes a week and then on the other days I try to go for at least a 20minute walk. I was doing pilates DVDs at home but I seriously lack willpower when it comes to home DVDs!
I'm sorry about the meltdown! I had a few of those in the first trimester and the other day, DH fell down about 6 stairs (he was fine, landed on his feet) but I got such a fright I shrieked and then started crying. So irrational! haha. Then DH pointed out that in my shock I had thrown my fork across the dining table, pancake still attached, so it turned into a weird laughing/crying session. Ahhhhh dear!

@lulu22: ummm...just lol-ed at the fork and pancake story. Glad DH was fine!

@Mrs. Sunshine: i agree, if you're having painful contractions i'd definitely contact someone asap. but i'm a worrier thanks for the info about the blackout shades. i bought the prettiest curtains for the nursery on the weekend but they're gonna let in a lot of light so i might need blackouts. i'll take a peek.
@SunshineMcC: @lulu22: haha i cry about everything, it terrifies my DH. early on in my pregnancy he jokingly took my cell phone and pretended to hide it and i SOBBED uncontrollably!!!! haha. i'm emotionally unstable at the best of times though so pregnancy isn't helping!
ok i am crazy nauseous today... thought this had passed

@Mrs. Sunshine: Blackout blinds are awesome! We already have them for LO #1, but would love some for the baby. They are so worth it.

@lulu22: I've never seen it. I did just google it and I vaguely remember it coming out I'll have to see if I can find it on netflix or something.
@loki: I felt pretty good last week, thought I was turning a corner and could maybe stop my meds... then threw up on friday night and felt terrible last night. My friend said 22 weeks was her magic window...

@Banana330: ugh i wish i went into pregnancy not believing all the tales about second trimester being a dream! everyone lied to me! haha. maybe in a couple more weeks i'll have a short reprieve from feeling awful before all the third trimester suckiness sets in. i'm worried because i'm already so uncomfortable and it's so early!
nectarine / 2317 posts
@loki: Even feeling sick still, I'm feeling a million times better than I did in the 1st trimester. I'm thinking it's all relative. Hopefully it only gets better from Here! (except maybe march when we start to feel huge!). Did you find a winter coat? I caved and ordered a coat extender. I spend too much time outside on my commute to have a crappy coat.

@Banana330: You said to say if I found a cure for the "butt pain," and I'm not sure this qualifies, however I haven't felt any pain at all the last couple of days. The only thing that it could be that I did differently the night before that I hadn't since the pain started was DTD. I probably did more uphill walking and stairs that day too, so by all rights, it should have been worse. But the next day, I felt great! Also, my waddle was gone, confirming that it was probably due to a misalignment, rather than due to the extra little bit of weight in front. @Yellowbird: I guess your comment about physio helping to rearrange the hips can also be applied to other manoeuvres!
@Loki: I agree about the getting embarrassed about being winded walking up stairs. At work it's only one flight that I regularly have to deal with, but I've gotten strange looks at the end of the day from strangers in my building that don't know me but see me huffing up the last few steps. My uniform hides my bump, and so I still look in shape, but sound like someone who's not. Plus the expectation that all military personnel are supposed to be I shape... I usually mumble something about Mondays and long days, and look away. Here in Greece there are a lot of out of shape tourists, and I can usually pause to take photos or admire the view as an excuse!

@lulu22: oh my, am replaying the pancake-fork story in my head! I have a feeling more of those meltdowns might be on its way!
@loki: I hear you - I'm a pretty emotional/wear my everything on my sleeve kind of person, so was expecting to be a wreck during pregnancy, and for the most part, have felt really even keel - until this time! Oh well, the joys! Sorry to hear you're still not feeling well - I hope you turn the corner soon! Post a pic of your curtains! I'm getting so excited about nursery ideas!
Is anyone on pinterest? I have a baby boy board started there! Oh, or did we create a nursery board??
pear / 1787 posts
@Banana330: no i haven't found one yet. my MIL wants to buy one for me and she's been in florida all week. i saw one i really like on the thyme maternity website but it doesn't look like they have many sizes yet. i'm still wearing my last year's winter coat but it is getting SNUG at the bottom and looks a tad ridiculous.
i've also desperately been on a hunt for maternity swimwear and it's not going well. i really want cute one pieces but... they don't seem to exist. snooki (of all people) posted an instagram pic of her in the cuuuutest one piece and i've been searching for something similar. no luck. anyone have recos? we're going away in january so i need to get on ordering some stuff. i don't think my old bikinis would even fit cuz i've gotten VERY chesty and hippy.

@SunshineMcC: @Lulu22: @Loki: I threw a sharp knife into the sinks (in the direction of DH) a few weeks ago, and then burst into tears. I also started crying in the middle of the street in a small Turkish town last week when we couldn't find any food that appealed to me. I was hungry and frustrated. When DH asked what was wrong, I wailed, "I'm pregnant!"
@Banana330: @Loki: I think someone lied too! By comparison, my first trimester was smooth sailing. At just about 21 now, and feeling better everyday, so hopefully almost out of the woods.

@Astro Bee: haha i was laughing out loud about your stairs description. that is me exactly. i have to take this HUGE steep flight of stairs up to the go train and i seriously go SO slowly. old ladies with canes are like flying by me. but if i don't go super slow i feel like i'm on an episode of the biggest loser. and in most clothes i dont' think i'm visibly pregnant so people are probably like WTFFF. and the stairs are soooo narrow so i hold up so many people, most of the time. i started taking the long way to take the elevator. so lazy. hope you're having an amazing vacation!!!
nectarine / 2317 posts
@Astro Bee: Interesting... your cure may have worked for me too.. It was bad last week, then sat we DTD and sun I did yoga and it's been feeling ok so far.
@loki: I made the mistake of taking measurements to see how I had changed. I was in a wedding just before getting pregnant (found out two days after the wedding) and so I knew my bridesmaid dress measurements.. I'm up almost 6 inches in the chest and 5 in the stomach. My ribs have also gotten bigger... like two band sizes for bras.
pear / 1787 posts
@Banana330: omg don't give me any ideas. i'm going to avoid measurements at allllllllllll costs. i was already really self conscious about my chest pre-pregnancy. but i saw a bunch of friends on the weekend and EVERYONE was commenting on it and theeeeeeeeen a lady at work the other day said the rudest things about it and went on for like 10 minutes about how big my boobs are. THANKSSSSSSSSSSSS.

@Loki: I'd looked around for one-piece maternity suits before our trip (as a just in case) and couldn't find any. I bought a 2-piece this summer that I hadn't even worn yet, and it miraculously still fits (even though I've gone up 2 cup sizes). The bottoms are lower cut, so it fits below the slightly expanded waistline. It's been a little cooler here than expected, so I still haven't worn it. I'm not sure I'd be able to wear it well in a few months, though. One thing I've noticed before is that most Canadian stores don't display bathing suits between Sept and Feb.
pear / 1787 posts
@Astro Bee: ya i usually order all my bathing suits from vic secret... but that is a definite no go now. i only fit into their large bottoms when i diet like CRAZZZZZZY. i was less like 40 lbs for my wedding in february and they baaaaarely fit then... they need bigger sizes! i might have to order some from asos but the duties are a lot.

@Loki: With train/subway stations or airports, I'm usually the one who will walk up the stairs or escalator and get annoyed when people don't observe the stand on the right, pass on the left rule. Of course, lately I'm hugging the right, and keep telling DH, "you go on, wait for me at the top." But of course, he waits for me. I hate when it's too narrow to let others pass.

@loki: I got a one piece from Old Navy. It is more plain than cute, but, it was cheap (especially with 35% off) and seems relatively flattering. As much as being mostly naked can feel flattering at present.

@loki: I got a maternity tankini top at motherhood on the sale rack when we were away. The hotel had a pool and I wanted to swim. They didn't have any bottoms so I just bought some running shorts at walmart and wore those. I'm hoping my regular bottoms still fit or I can find some online somewhere. I know old navy (online) and thyme had them in oct so they might still have online ones.
pear / 1503 posts
@Loki: this bathing suit is VS. When I couldn't get a 1-piece, I went back to see if I could get a fuller fitting bottom, and I got the crazy look from the saleslady, like I didn't know that in Canada they didn't sell bathing suits this time of year. It was too late to order online, too. So I came home and tried on the bottoms and they were "okay." They are the ruched back ones that show more cheek, and are surprisingly flattering even for bigger bottomed women - I am most definitely pear-shaped, though thankfully nowhere near Kim K.'s lower proportions. Anyway, I'd probably feel more self-conscious in North America, but I've seen some tiny and non-existent bathing suits on European beaches, so it depends on where you are going. Anyway, moot point for me, 'cause it's too chilly here!

@lilyofthewest: oh that looks nice! i'm totally ok with plain at this point too because it seems super cute is hard to come by. thanks!
persimmon / 1386 posts
@loki: I have a one piece Old Navy swimsuit that I just wore this weekend (little weekend away and the hotel had an indoor pool which DD loved so much). I do not believe it is maternity, but since suits are stretchy it worked well. I bet the one @lilyofthewest linked would work well!
Regarding blackout curtains, we don't have any for DD and it hasn't been an issue. Even in the summer when it was still sunny a couple hours past her bedtime.
pear / 1787 posts
@Astro Bee: i loooove those bottoms, they are super flattering. but i have a big bum pre-pregnancy and now i've just gotten really wide so i feel like they would dig into my love handles way too much. i'll have to try on the stuff i have and see if it'll work. also, i'll be like 26 weeks soooo much bigger than i am now even... too bad it's not warm enough there for some swimming!
@NeekieRose: i was wondering about this. our nursery actually has a sky light that is kind of stressing me out. there is a cover for it but light leaks in around the edges of the cover... i'm hoping it won't be too much of an issue for the baby but if it is, i'll need to come up with a solution!
persimmon / 1386 posts
@loki: With DD I tried to not make everything "perfect" mostly out of fear that if she got too used to certain scenarios, it would be a nightmare if the perfect scenario wasn't available. I never tried to keep it really quiet or dark when she napped or slept (she often fell asleep in the Boba while I made cupcakes, mixer running on high and all). When we introduced a bottle in prep for daycare, I gave her room temp (or cold) bottles as often as warm just in case there ever was a situation where a warm bottle wasn't possible.
I say that all while knowing that we were blessed with a very easy baby, but I hope that at least part of that was due to us exposing her to the less than ideal situations. Now this will probably all blow up in my face with the next baby who will require a pitch black room for naps, hot bottles, and complete silence to stay asleep. Ha
pear / 1787 posts
@NeekieRose: that's my hope too, i'm not going to do anything about it and just praaaay she is good and can sleep through anything (like me ha!). i'm just a worrier and like to get worked up about things that i have no control over really far in advance haha. what an endearing quality.
pomelo / 5041 posts
@NeekieRose: We were pretty much the same way. It's exactly why we never got those wipe warmers. Jack often slept in noisy scenarios, light ones, etc. I hope we have the same ease with no. 2 too!

@SunshineMcC: yes, I am on pinterest! I've started a couple of boards, one is specifically for the nursery and is very 'refined' to only the things I am planning on getting.. the other is just a random mashup of everything I see that I like... you can see them here:

@marionberry: @NeekieRose: I love your take on not making things too perfect, so that baby is OK in a variety of scenarios - very smart!!
AS went great today - everything looks really well with baby, so that makes me happy and gives me lots of peace. The doc said he's measuring a week or so ahead - March 31 (!!), but going to keep my due date the same. The tech kept trying to get pics of the baby, and he would put his hand up and turn away - like, "no pictures, please". Ha, so cute!
They also ran a bunch of tests to make sure the pains I'm having on my right side aren't related to kidney, liver or gall bladder, so am looking forward to getting those back to get some more info. Also, I gained 7 POUNDS in the last 4 weeks - eeek! I'm at 12 total and 20 weeks, but my doc said it was fine - it just seems like a lot, especially knowing that number will likely double and then some. Oh well - a healthy baby is worth it all! I think we're finally going to make a FB announcement, so looking forward to that as well!

@lulu22: Such cute boards! I love the woodland animal theme, and the wall art is adorable. That diaper bag is super cute too!
Here's the one I've started - it's mainly nursery ideas - beach meets vintage travel meets fishing:

@SunshineMcC: Yay! Glad the AS went well today!! So funny about the "no pictures" maneuver! And it's great they are running extra tests for the pain you've been getting.
I love your pinterest board! The vintage nautical theme is so nice... I actually sent my mom the moodboard you have pinned from 100 layer cakelet a few days ago, the mint color scheme is gorgeous!

@meredithNYC: Congrats!
@SunshineMcC: I like the theme you have picked out; it's unique! So glad your AS went well! My J did that with his arm too. We put the pic on his gender announcement saying "no pictures please!"
@lulu22: I love your pins! I stole a few lol.

Blackout curtains could be a good idea for us since the baby will still be really young in the summer, so those curtains could definitely help with keeping the room cool. I don't want to spend a lot though so I think we're just going to buy blackout liner fabric to tack onto regular curtains (a la YHL: http://www.younghouselove.com/2012/01/fifteen-minute-fifteen-dolla-black-out-curtains/)
pomegranate / 3314 posts
@SunshineMcC: Great ideas on your board! I love the idea of a boy room that doesn't scream "BOY!" so I love the softer color palette. And glad the AS went well.
@marionberry: @Mrs. Sunshine: Thanks, ladies!
