@psw27: wow, that's impressive!
Both our sets of parents live locally and DS adores staying with them so I'm not worried about that. The only thing is it seems weird to do that during such a big transition time. Though I have really fond memories of staying with my grandparents when my youngest brother was born (I was 8) so I bet it really doesn't matter.

@bubblegum: Both my boys will stay with my parents. DS1 loves grandpa, probably more than me lol, so he will be fine. DS2 does NOT do well sleeping anywhere other than at home, in his crib, with me putting him down to sleep. So....that will be a challenge for whoever is watching him. But, he will get through it! Does your hospital have a nursery? Ours got rid of the nursery after I had DS1. So, when I had DS2, DH and my mom alternated nights staying with me (I had csections for both, and will again) and the other stayed with DS1. Not sure if we will alternate again or what.
ETA: If you have a csection and your hospital does NOT have a nursery, it would be very difficult for you to stay in the hospital without someone there to help you overnight.

@ValentineMommy: The fear you have for the people watching DS2 is my fear lol my LO has NEVER stayed out of the house and is a terror to get to sleep. Our hospital does have a nursery so I'm not to worry about me and the baby. I'm just going to miss snuggling with my little babe.

@bubblegum: Oh man, you're lucky about that then (the nursery)!! Does your LO go down for your DH?
pear / 1717 posts
@ValentineMommy: Yes! With our LO we never sent him to the nursery overnight but by myself I know I won't be able to get out of bed as quickly. For the last month LO has only been able to go down with me That's what's scary. Like last night, DH let me go to bed early and stayed up with our LO. LO needs up staying up super late and would not go to bed. I got up, held him, and in seconds he was asleep. The same thing DH had been trying.

@bubblegum: that's exactly what ds2 does with us too. He doesn't let dh feed him either!! Lol it will be interesting, for sure!
pomelo / 5791 posts
@bubblegum: Lol right?!? How old is you LO? DS2 is only 14m now, so he definitely will not understand whats going on. When I had him, DS1 was already 2.5, so he had a much easier time and a good comprehension of what was happening. This time, he was so excited about having another sibling, he almost cried!

Today was a big day for us. Just got back from our 12 week appointment and everything looks great. Measuring 5 days ahead, but that's been pretty consistent. And just like that, we have "graduated" from the care of our Reproductive Endocrinologist and are now released to see my normal OB/GYN! Bonus: they also let us take a video of our ultrasound today!
Turns out getting the NIPT at our institution requires an appointment with the genetics counselors and a separate blood draw, so that won't happen until next week.
But needless to say, we are over the moon!

@ValentineMommy: My lo is 2 but does not have a clear understanding of what's going on. He's in therapy for developmental reasons so I'm nervous of his transition. Awww your lo2 is so young! They so adorable at that age

@yellowbeach: Woohoo! Congrats on a great appointment and "graduating" from RE!

@yellowbeach: what great pictures! Congrats!
Just finished up at my appt and everything went great! I'm so relieved. I'm 9 weeks with a due date of April 27. Baby's heart rate was 171,nice and strong! So excited. Told my sis in law today and she's over the moon. Her daughter and this baby might have really close birthdays.
Now we just have to decide on if we want to do 12 week testing or not. We more than likely would not terminate if it was decided to be non-viable or Downs Syndrome. It all depends on cost. I'm not sure if my insurance would cover it. Those of you who did get the 12 week testing done, was it covered by ins? How much was your out of pocket expense for it?

@abbydabbydoodlebug: 12 week testing/scan is covered by my insurance
pomelo / 5220 posts
@abbydabbydoodlebug: Yay! That's my birthday Yes, 12 week testing was covered by my insurance I believe. I never really had to pay for any ultrasounds from what I remember but I might have had to pay some small out of pocket for blood testing. Overall, I had to hit my deductible before labor and delivery charges anyway so it was all a wash to me!
nectarine / 2636 posts
@littleblessings: @psw27: hmm, ok. My insurance has started nickel and diming me and now they file sonogram under radiology and it's not included under pre-natal care anymore. So I have to pay $70 or more for each sonogram. It's incredibly annoying. I just paid $60 for my 4 blood draws for hcg and progesterone at the beginning of this pregnancy. So I really don't want to pay a bunch for a test I'm unsure of getting in the first place. You know? I guess I'll just have to try to call my ins and see if they can give me a quote.
pomelo / 5220 posts
@abbydabbydoodlebug: Do you have an overall out of pocket maximum? Cause for me, I had to hit the $300 per year deductible for some things to be fully covered first.
nectarine / 2636 posts
@psw27: I haven't hit my out of pocket max yet. I have met my deductible. I think I have another $1k to go for my out of pocket max.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: insurance can be so frustrating! I definitely remember arguing with them about quite a few things last time and yelling at them that they had deceptive billing practices where they were looking for loopholes to make me pay more!
nectarine / 2636 posts
@psw27: it is really frustrating! We had amazing insurance before Obama care. Never had to worry about anything. Grrr. Our hospital bill for DD was ridiculous.

@yellowbeach: awesome news! It's like a graduation!
So first time mom question and it might be well known: would you ever skip the infant car seat and go straight to a car seat (granted facing backwards)? I'm just looking at weights and 5-65lbs vs 5-35lbs and costs.
nectarine / 2460 posts
@mrsmacSLP: The advice I received (and I think its good advice) is that if you can afford it and/or think you'll have another kid within a few years, to go ahead and get the infant seat. The argument being that the added convenience is worth the extra expense, and if you end up having 2 kiddos in car seats, you'll have to get another at some point anyway, so you might as well have an infant seat and a convertible.

So, TMI story here - I've had some cramps and pain for the past few days. I also haven't pooped for the last few days. Today I tried (unsuccessfully ) and had a tiny amount of bleeding (from my vagina). I know normally cramps+bleeding=BAD NEWS! but it seems like they could both also be symptoms of the not pooping thing. I'm about to send DH out for some glamorous meds, but I wanted to get your opinions/experiences. So on a scale of 1: just get you some meds and go to sleep to 10: get you to the ER woman! how would you be feeling?
apricot / 308 posts
@JennyPenny: responding to your question first: I would 9- call the on call OBGYN/midwife immediately!
Response: we're in the fence regarding one and done or two. We've decided to wait until this one is 3 to make a full decision on #2. And car seats expire in 5 years right? I guess that would give us time.
nectarine / 2648 posts
@JennyPenny: If it was just some scant bleeding, I'd say take some Miralax, go to bed, and call your OB first thing in the morning to see if they can see you. Any sign of increasing pain or bleeding, ER for you.
Also - if you see my post from about 4 or 5 days ago, if it's available in your city, AmazonPrime Now is great for those otherwise embarrassing in-person purchases, and they deliver in ~2 hrs. Saved me more than once.

@yellowbeach: @mrsmacslp: Thanks ladies! It's rare for me to be less worried than others so I'll probably call in the morning. I'd been planning not to.
nectarine / 2460 posts
@mrsmacSLP: I'll also add that my kiddo was a car nap champ, so I don't know what we would have done without the carrier. But my friend can count on 1 hand the number of times her 6 month old has fallen asleep in the car seat so that doesn't matter as much to her.
Oh, and beyond the sleep thing - what's really convenient is having the bucket when eating out. Until they're old enough to sit up in a high chair I'm not sure what you would do with them, but you can prop up the bucket in a high chair or sling which is nice.

I called the advice line this morning and was told to drink more water. She also said if I had any caffeine that could make dehydration/cramping worse. So that fits with the timeline because I *just* reintroduced caffeine this week. She wants me to drink 96 oz of water a day (SO MUCH!!!) and come in if cramps get worse or bleeding starts again

@abbydabbydoodlebug: my doctor said the 12 week ultrasound would be covered by insurance. I have a high deductible that I haven't met so I'll pay out of pocket anyway. He advised doing the testing so they can be prepared for the birth of a special needs baby if they need to be. It made a lot of sense to me so I decided to do it.
I have the worst upset stomach, anytime I try to eat more than crackers or cereal I get terrible stomach cramps and rush to the bathroom. It's awful, I canceled lunch with a friend today because I can't eat!

Less morning sickness today. More heartburn. Is anyone else starting to feel better? 10w4d over here.

@littleblessings: Feeling much better at 12w2d. Still fatigued and intermittently constipated, but nausea and vomiting have definitely subsided. Phew. Glad you are feeling better!
nectarine / 2460 posts
@littleblessings: glad you're feeling better. My fatigue is also dissipating but that could be because I reintroduced caffeine Either way, loving being able to actually function. I think this week has been more productive at work than the entire rest of the pregnancy.
pomelo / 5220 posts
@JennyPenny: glad you got some reassurance. The constipation is so annoying and uncomfortable! I am completely failing at drinking water. Like maybe 40 oz a day and I usually love water. Tummy just isn't into it.
I've been feeling better towards the end of this week, not necessarily more energy but less vomiting and nausea so I'm surviving. Every day is different though!
