So I've been having contractions that are about a minute long and less than 5 mins apart for the past 2ish hours. The thing is that they're not really painful at all, just super uncomfortable. They're definitely a little more intense than the BH ones I've been having, but since they're still not really painful, does it matter that they're so often? Like on a scale of 1-10, the pain is like 1-2ish. I'm really hoping this little guy stays inside for a few more days, especially with tomorrow being easter. I'm exactly 39 weeks today.

@MissLace: With DS1 I had contractions like that in the morning that then kind of fizzled to maybe 15 min apart, but they never stopped entirely. By noon they'd ramped back up again and at that point they hurt! So I guess my opinion is it could very well mean something is soon, but not quite yet 😬

@MissLace: I had prodromal labor with ds2 that felt like that for over two weeks. So.... you never know. How are you feeling now?

DS1 wanted snuggles today and kept pushing DS2 to the side of my belly so he could get comfy. I ended up with a super lopsided belly, which was quite uncomfortable, but I loved having my boys together and close! Can't wait to snuggle them both for real

@ValentineMommy: they tapered off after a few hours so I'm not that worried anymore. My contraction counter app kept alerting me to go to the hospital immediately which was a little concerning but like I said, they didn't really hurt even though they were time-able. Hopefully they don't come back over night so I can attempt to get some sleep.

Well we're home! Most of you know I had an appointment on Wednesday the 12th for both ultrasound and a membrane sweep. I was so emotional that day because everyone around me got their babies and I was 10 days past due and just DONE.

In the ultrasound they noted low fluids (AFI) but didn't tell me, just told me to immediately go up to the midwives and ask to see one. Panicked and alone, I went up and started balling at the receptionist. She immediately took me back to a room where I texted my husband to let him know something is happening and he may need to leave work soon. The midwife on call came in, asked me how I was and again, I broke down crying saying I was done. She informed me "yes you are, you're not going home today." and told me what was happening and told me to tell my husband (B) to come in, I would be induced that day.

At 3pm pitocin was started and I was in the hospital officially checked in with my husband by my side. By 8, my mom came and stayed until 10pm. That's when the contractions really started. I labored, got dilated to 10, 100% effaced without an epidural. We started pushing at 4am and pushed for 2 hours when W (son) heart rate started dropping. This is all filled in from B, my mind was in coping phase. W's heart rate I guess dropped down to 53 with pushes and immediately the room filled with over 16 staff members from nurses, OBs, pediatricians, respiratory therapists etc. I remember looking and seeing people and thinking "something I happening". The OB immediately wanted to go to a c section, my midwife said no, stepped off to the side and had a not so quiet discussion. Meanwhile I was being flipped in all different positions getting W's heart rate back up.

It was finally discussed with B that we can go for an epidural and a drug to stop contractions or go for a c section. He knew what I wanted and agreed to the epidural for me. I had an epidural inserted at 655 am and was then told to rest. At 8:30 am with contractions stopped I was put back on pitocin to get contractions going again.

By 10am I was rested, had an epidural and began pushing again. I pushed for 4 hours with the midwife attempting to turn W (sunny side up) and she finally did. At 3 hours his heart rate started dropping again, into the 90s with each push and it was determined his heart rate was not coming back as quickly as before. The new OB on call was there the entire time, she helped me push, knew my desires and tried everything. We finally had a discussion, B, midwife, OB, myself, and charge nurse about what our options were at that point: try the vaccuum once then emergency c section (he already had a cone head) or c section now. I cried so hard, and my midwife was so amazing. So so amazing. My husband supported any decision I had but highly suggested the c section as he knew a emergency was the worst of my fears. At 1:50pm I finally agreed and I was immediately prepped for surgery.

W was born in less than 20 minutes with his cord wrapped around his neck twice, and his hands in his eye sockets causing some bruising) hi head was hitting my pelvic bone every time I pushed bevause he had also flipped sunny side up again. And although his birth didn't go the way I wanted it to, I am so glad I chose the midwives and they listened. My husband has been my biggest supporter and my rock. I can't imagine doing this without him!

@mrsmacSLP: Wow! Thanks for sharing your story. I'm so glad you had your husband and midwife there to support you!

@psw27: I've googled this a bit myself cause in many ways "leaking amniotic fluid" sounds a lot better than the alternatives...

DS is under the weather so I have to take him to the doctors. A mothers work is never done lol one more nights rest and my girl will be here

We're doing great! Having some trouble with latching but apparently I have flat nipples. We're using a shield and it helps but I made an appointment with a lactation consultant to see if we can get back to nursing without. Definitely a life saver though.

I'm doing okay, mentally Ive been doing well. My husband is still such a supporter which is huge. our dogs adjusted well, but my in laws are a huge participator in that transition.

@JennyPenny: when you update the list again, W's Birthday is 4/13.

Wishing you all the best! I can't wait to see more babes!

Ugh, so I've been having fairly regular contractions whenever I move around for the past few days. But for the past hour or two, I've had period like cramping, pretty consistently. Is this the start of something?

  29. JennyPenny

    nectarine / 2460 posts

Just wrapped up my pre-admission testing. I feel well-informed about what to expect and I think I'll be able to get skin-to-skin quickly which was really important. Sounds like I'll be bed-bound and food-free until Wed morning which seems like a long time but oh well. Daycare also called to say that DS1 seemed quiet and "off" today. Fingers crossed we can make this go well for him!

I am not having a baby today so going ahead with my scheduled repeat c section tomorrow morning. I am ok with it, not exactly what we planned but looking forward to meeting baby. Now that we know how baby will come into the world, we really need to work on a boy name! I loved 2 girl names and let my husband choose his preference but if it's a second boy, he's going to be nameless for a little while!

  31. JennyPenny

    nectarine / 2460 posts

@MOMTOLITTLEB: tomorrow's gonna be a busy, exciting day We haven't officially settled on a name either so baby boy may be nameless for a while too. Im excited to hear your news tomorrow - especially since you're our only team green mama!

Eeeeek, so many babies this week!! I'm living vicariously through you guys since I still have 16 days left (hopefully? maybe? I've been cramping a lot lately...)

@MOMTOLITTLEB: Can't wait to find out if you're having a boy or girl!

@mrsmacSLP: I had to use a shield for the entire 13 months I nursed DS1, but was able to wean off of it around 6 weeks with DS2 (and he nursed until 14 months)! I definitely wouldn't have been able to nurse successfully without them, but it doesn't mean you'll use them forever!

He's here! My scheduled induction went smoothly yesterday. Labored for 12 hours and he was born with 3 just pushes. The pitocin was causing stacked contractions but I sailed through pain-free with an epidural.

@lilteacherbee: thanks for the reassuring news! I don't mind using the shield. It definitely makes life easier for both of us, I just can't believe how expensive they are! I was sent home with 4 from the hospital so I've been taking really good care of them!

@MapleMoose: he is so sweet!! And such a fast labor! Congratulations!
