@StrawberryBee: I'd imagine it's her attempt to get out of tummy time. "Look mom! I'll just sit up nicely, no need to lay face down. Rollin's for suckers!"

We had a major milestone day yesterday! LO slept through the night (10-6, then 6:30-9:30) in her crib in her own room! Wahooo!
Also, DH and I managed to DTD successfully for the first time since kiddo was born. Great day altogether!

@Sapphiresun: I tried to sign us up for swim lessons for this month but it was full, so we start in the middle of Feb. We took B swimming a couple months ago and she loved it! We haven't been since, but I'm going to try and go this week again.

What does BLW stand for? I can't figure that one out
@redsmarties: Woohoo! Congrats on both milestones

B hasn't rolled from her back to belly yet. She can go from her belly to back but doesn't do it very often. She's quite content to lay on her tummy.

We've been giving solids for 2 weeks or so consistently now. I was giving her samples before that though. She hates the oatmeal and I don't want to do the rice cereal as it can make troubles with constipation apparently. Even with eating a bit of fruit and veggies she still only goes once a week so I don't want to make it worse. We have one of those food net things, where you can put food in it then they suck on it. She's obsessed with oranges in that thing. I haven't tried anything else in it, but I think you can put pretty much anything in them. They're pretty neat. Kinda looks like a big soother but a mesh net on the end.

B has her 6 month immunizations this week. Crazy hey. She won't be 6 months until the 27th, not sure why they booked her in 2 weeks early but whatever. We are having a large outbreak of H1N1 in our city, I was thinking about asking if she should have the flu shot while we're there. They give them starting at 6 months but I'm not sure if it's necessary or not.

@MrsB2012: BLW is baby-led weaning. So many acronyms! And YES to rice cereal = constipation. We had some issues over here. Can't wait to use her mesh feeder thing when she's closer to 6 months.

    @Sapphiresun: ha

@redsmarties: wow, how awesome all around!

@MrsB2012: is it a saltwater pool or is chlorine okay? Where are you guys doing your swimming lessons? Besides the Y I can't think of any place around here that has an indoor pool.

We have a silicone mesh feeder, I can't wait to use it!

@redsmarties: Two big wins! Glad you're making some progress.

@MrsB2012: Baby-led weaning. Essentially letting LO feed herself.

I gave a little rice cereal and LO hasn't pooped since this morning, but she loved it and it's been the only thing that she cried once it was all gone, even though I gave her a full boob feed right before. Hopefully she's feeling ok. Usually she goes 4-5 times a day, so maybe more regular than constipated.

Does anyone's LO turn onto their bellies to sleep? We have always put S to sleep on his back and lately he's been turning onto his side. Tonight he turned onto his belly twice. I gently rolled him back over, but now I'm scared to go to sleep and have him do it while I'm sleeping. I guess the whole back is best has just been drilled so far into my brain!

  9. MrsB2012

    nectarine / 2466 posts

@StrawberryBee: I think the pool we go to uses Bromine? It's not salt water, and I'm positive they changed it from chlorine a few years ago. We took B once a few months ago and it was fine. They have to be 4 months old to start lessons at this pool. We have a big tournament centre so that's the pool we go to.
@Sapphiresun: @redsmarties: Baby led weaning. Thanks. I couldn't figure that one out haha
@JamieLee: B just stays on her back but my friends baby sleeps on her stomach. It doesn't bother my friend at all. She told me that she's always let her baby sleep on her stomach so she doesn't get a flat head.. .. I think that this age it's not as much as a big deal? I would guess that if he can get himself to his stomach that it's not as much as a concern? I'm not sure, I don't see how you can prevent it?

@Modern Daisy: Yay for starting solids and rolling over!

@Sapphiresun: What is it with AF and her impeccable timing??? Christmas?? Really??? Not cool!

That’s awesome your LO is enjoying the pool. I can’t wait to introduce DS to one. I’m a huge water baby and I hope DS is too!

@JamieLee: I haven’t heard of or used an Amber teething necklace, but hey! Whatever works is awesome in my book! What is it exactly?

DS likes to roll to his side when he’s tired and is ready to go to sleep. He prefers to sleep on his belly actually. He’s been going to sleep that way the past few weeks. I actually put him down on his belly because it’s the only way he will drift off to sleep. If I leave him on his back, he gets upset and wants to be picked up. He also doesn’t sleep as long on his back if he does fall asleep in that position. DS rolls over to his back if he’s upset enough about being on his belly. And if he’s not ready to go to sleep when I put him down on his belly, he’ll roll over to his back immediately.

@Skipper2010: I have started solids, and his sleep has improved dramatically!! Not sure if it’s because of the solids or not since we started sleep training last week and it coincided with when I started solid. He only has 1 wakeup now, which can range between 2am-4am. It’s awesome!!!! The first night, he woke up on the dot – every 1.5 hours. Then I started doing CIO when he woke up during the night, and after a few nights, he seemed to sleep in longer stretches. I kept waking up anticipating his wake up and he didn’t! Now, I can sleep more rested and only look at the clock when I hear him fussing. If it’s before 1am, I let him CIO. If it’s past 1am, I’ll get up and nurse him and he’ll usually go right back to sleep.

@StrawberryBee: DS falls to the side if I sit him in a shopping cart. In a high chair at home, he likes to slouch and sit to the side as well. But in a restaurant high chair, he sits up right, but still in a slouch.

@Redsmarties: Yay for STTN!!!! And successful DTD – you overachiever you… haha!

@MRSB2012: We gave DS oatmeal cereal and his #2 diapers have increased!! Not sure if that’s the same as rice cereal or not though.

  11. Alivoo01

    wonderful olive / 19353 posts

AFM, sleep training went well and DS only has 1 wake up now compared to his every 1.5 hours the past 3 months! He probably could/should be skipping that one MOTN feeding, but he goes right back to sleep after nursing so I'm okay with it for now.

DS isn't a fan of bananas at room temp, but will semi tolerate it if it's chilled. He enjoys his oatmeal cereal though! He is also a fan of bread. He can't get enough of it once I start feeding it to him! Yikes!

@Alivoo01: I'm so happy to hear sleep has gotten better for you!! Finally!! Fingers crossed it just keeps getting better and better!

We started DS on rice cereal. He mostly likes to play around with it and make funny faces. I'll probably start him on veggies next week as he's not THAT interested yet. Our babies are getting SO big!!

DS is rolling both ways frequently but he gets SUPER frustrated that he can't crawl yet. Whenever he's on his tummy and there's something he wants to grab close by he tries so hard to get to it and I feel so bad watching him. So I usually end up flipping him onto his back and distracting him. It'll be interesting to see when he'll start crawling because this little guy wants to be on the move! BAD!

  13. MrsB2012

    nectarine / 2466 posts

@Alivoo01: That's so nice that he sleep is getting better! You must feel like a new person!

@skipper2010: Does your DS get right up on his knees now or does he just kind of bend them? DD tries so hard to move for toys out of her reach, but she's not up on knees yet. They're just bend and then she tries to push with her feet.

We had B's 6 month appointment this week. She's 15 pounds 1 ounce. She's moved up from the 15-30% to the 50% in all areas . It was kind of irritating because they made us fill out a survey to see where your child is in reaching milestones. It was about 3 pages of questions on what they do. For one section B hasn't reached the "yes" portion, mostly the "sometimes." Well the public health nurse starts going off.. are you suuuure she doesn't do this yet... She's scoring really low in this area and I'm really trying to get her some points. She's realllly low in this area. Then she goes on to say.. Oh well I guess she's only 5 months and 19 days. She has until 7 months to get to these points before it's a concern. ... So why make a big deal about it. Everyone knows that all babies reach milestones at different ages and it's not that concerning. Ugh. It just annoyed me that she felt she had to make a big deal about it.
On the bonus, little b didn't cry after her immunization It's only 1 needle this time. I'm already dreading the 1 year ones.. 4 in her arms

It's so cute. If I stand B up she will stand there holding her weight for quite a long time. I'll attach a pic, I think seeing little babies stand up is the cutest thing ever!

    @redsmarties: wahoo on both accounts!
@Alivoo01: I'm so glad you're getting some much deserved sleep!
@MrsB2012: what a big girl standing up! Love it!
@JamieLee: I'm paranoid too, LO is rolling onto tummy during sleep. The first time she did it, she was flat faced down into mattress and I panicked and shook her awake. At least every other time she sleeps with face to side. I still put her to sleep on back but I don't think there is much we can do at this point.

We will start solids in mid-February when she's 6 months. I can't wait! I want to go straight to purees and skip cereal but we shall see. I haven't decided yet! Here's our 5 month shot from this week, unfortunately it was a fail...all she wanted to do was eat the sticker!

@delight: she is so cute! Looks like she's sitting up pretty well too? And for the paranoia, I'm currently laying in bed awake watching the monitor because we moved S to his crib in his room and he just rolled onto his belly. I just zoomed in to make sure his back was rising and falling...I don't know how I'm going to get to sleep now!

AFM, I think we're going to start solids tomorrow. I went to the store today and picked up a food processor and steamer basket and some sweet potatoes, butternut squash, apples, pears, avocado, and bananas. I got the apples and sweet potatoes all made and the squash and pears just need to be puréed. I'm planning on skipping cereal, but I do have some baby oatmeal cereal if I change my mind. We're hoping that will help his sleep even though everything I've read says that solids don't affect sleep...we also moved him into his room in hopes that not hearing or smelling us will help him sleep...it didn't go well last night, but hopefully tonight. We also gave him a couple extra ounces in his bottle right before bed. We're kind of desperate and willing to try anything.

Here's a picture of him "helping" me make baby food...and a picture of him eating his high chair tray.

@Alivoo01: We've been doing a similar CIO-lite through the night since she never actually had a major cry. No feeding unless it's 1am is our rule too. The first night she woke up at 12:53 and I called it close enough, but last night she didn't wake up until 3:30am, and went right back to sleep until 8:30. Heaven!

@MrsB2012: That questionairre sounds annoying. LO had her 6 month appt last week at 5m1w and there was nothing like that at all. I even had to bring up that she doesn't consistently roll over and the Dr just said she'd get to it when she gets to it.

    @JamieLee: So cute.

We're still a week and a half shy of six months but have fully started solids since the doctor said it was fine, and there's no major history of food allergies in our family so we're doing BLW and not worrying too much about introducing things one at a time unless they're a known high risk allergen (shellfish, nuts, etc). She's had pureed sweet potato, banana, and avocado, and last night we did a better BLW meal of steamed carrots and brocoli, and turkey meatballs slightly modified from what DH and I were eating ourselves (ground turkey stuffed peppers and steamed carrots/brocoli) Repeated with leftovers again today for dinner since DH and I ordered in Chinese.

She's 16lbs 7oz, and also loving to be held standing up. It's so crazy to me since she looks so little to be doing that, but she looks so proud of herself it makes me tear up a little!

@skipper2010: @mrsb2012: DS does the whole butt up in the air with legs/knees tucked under too, but no movement. Face is still firmly placed on the ground. Lol. It reminds of that elephant in the ocean meme.

@mrsb2012: wtf is that nurse’s problem causing unnecessary panic like that?! Yes ditto on babies growing and reaching milestones on their own! DS always shows signs of doing said mentioned skill prior to his appointments, but will “master” the skill his pedi mentions within the next 2 weeks of all his appointments. And 3 pages seems like a lot / excessive! Ours probably only asks a handful of questions!

And bravo for H standing on her own already!! So strong!! Maybe she’ll skip crawling and go straight to cruising/walking! A little girl at DS’s daycare did that. DS loves to stand up but can’t do it on his own yet.

@Delight: Cute picture of your LO! She’s looking at you like what?!? This sticker is yummy mommy!

@JamieLee: Love the print on your highchair and such a cute pic of him in it!! We started with oatmeal cereal just because I figured at 5 months, it’d be easiest on his belly. As of right now, it’s his favorite! He loves his oatmeal. Bananas, not so much. He like sweet potatoes though.

@Sapphiresun: Isn’t the uninterrupted sleep complete bliss! When DS slept past 1am, I looked at the clock and was like whoa!! Then I felt my boobs and was like OUCH! Need to pump!!

That pic is too cute. She’s like, “Look at what I can do ma! Now what?!” LOL!!

@skipper2010: @mrsb2012: @Delight: Thanks for the cheers on DS’s sleep improvement!! Trust me, it’s so nice to actually lay in bed and relax without panicking I have 1 hour to fall asleep only to be rudely awakened again or should I just stay awake.

AFM, DS caught the flu (influenza A) last week. D’oh! His fever reached 103.5 at one point, and even with Tylenol, it’d hover around 102! 3 days later, his fever broke and all is well. His pedi said to expect his fever to reach as high as 105/106!!! What!? Isn’t that grounds for brain damage??? But the pedi seemed so non-chalant when he said it. As if it was the norm… Yikes!! Being sick definitely affected his sleep so I’m a lil worried sleep training last few weeks is no longer good. We’ll see! Since he got sick, the pedi pushed his 6 month wellness appointment back a week so I’ll provide an update next week when we do go in.

  21. JamieLee

    clementine / 930 posts

@Alivoo01: so sorry your little guy was sick. When S had hand foot and mouth the ped said they don't worry unless the fever gets to 105...I was like, what!?! That seems so high to me, especially since we're told when they're really little to be alarmd if it goes over 100.5...hope he's feeling better. Flu season makes me nervous! I don't want anyone to touch S!

@JamieLee: What a cute little bugaboo!!! He seems to be enjoying that high chair tray! I bet he's going to LOVE solids! Let us know how it goes!

@Sapphiresun: Your baby has already had turkey meatballs? I'm impressed! I'm nervous to move on past the rice cereal! haha! To be fair we do have a family history of allergies so I'm trying to stick to the 6 month rule just in case. I'm excited to start experimenting with different foods though!

@Alivoo01: The flu??? Your poor little guy can't catch a break! Is he feeling any better yet? I hate when babies get sick. Breaks my heart!

Ladies....our babies are getting so big!! How did we start hitting the 6 month mark?! I just love watching them reach all these milestones! DS is rolling onto his belly a lot, but when he does it at night he gets so mad and wakes up screaming! A couple times he's settled on his belly and fallen back asleep, but other times I have to go pick him up, rock him to calm him down, and then put him back down on his back. If he doesn't like being on his belly he needs to figure out how to get himself back cause mama needs her sleep! lol Does anyone else have this problem?

  23. Sapphiresun

    nectarine / 2220 posts

@skipper2010: LO is one of the older August babies so she's six months feb 3. So we only started two weeks early. We don't have much history of allergies in our family at all so while I probably wouldn't feed her a shrimp egg roll dipped in a strawberry peanut sauce I don't worry too much about things very few people are allergic to. And "ate turkey meatballs" is probably a stretch... I put a turkey meatball on her high chair tray and she looked at it, played with it and sucked on it a little bit LOL.

@skipper2010: B will be 6 months in 4 days! I can't believe we're hitting the half birthday mark! I'm sure he'll figure out soon enough that he needs to flip back over. Soon you won't be able to stop him from rolling all over the place!
@Alivoo01: I saw on your other thread DS is having troubles sleeping again. I hope he gets back into a better routine for you. Hopefully it's just that he's not feeling 100% yet and gets back into it easily for you

I kind of slowed down on giving solids. B went 12 days without pooping. Then when she did it was super hard. I had to stimulate her for her to actually go. It was so sad. We had her 6 month Dr appt yesterday, and when I asked the Dr about it, she said to give the cereals. I thought the cereals, especially the rice cereal would contribute to constipation. B hates them, so I don't think she'll eat them anyways, but the Dr said because they have iron it's good to give them. B has never rolled from her back to belly and rarely rolls from belly to back. I asked about that but the Dr said she's way past those milestones, that some babies just don't roll. She said she might walk before she crawls haha.
I read a bunch of BLW, but it makes me so nervous! Maybe once I update my first aid for work next week I'll feel better about it. For now I"m just comfortable giving purees. I'm such a wimp haha.

@MrsB2012: oh boy, 12 days without a poop? That sounds terrible, poor little thing. No wonder you've slowed down on solids. I hear rice cereal cam be really constipating. One of the reasons I'm planning on starting with "real" food.
@skipper2010: LO started rolling on her belly in her crib about a month ago. At first I was terrified about it and she often started crying when she did it. After a week or so though she got very comfortable sleeping on her belly and now is finally sleeping well again! She still forgets how to roll back onto her back. I do think belly sleeping has allowed us to get longer stretches again though so I just leave her be. I still always put her down on her back though.
@Alivoo01: I hope your LO is feeling better now. Liv has still never been sick, touch wood, and I am not looking forward to the first illness. I know it will break my heart!

We head to Florida on Feb 10th. I'm looking forward to some warm weather. I am flying by myself with her and meeting my dad there. I'm pretty nervous about handling the flight by myself and haven't figured out how I'm going to do it. I'm leaning towards putting her in my Moby wrap and also bringing the stroller. I've still never put her in a stroller yet because she's always been in the bassinet attachment. We've been taking swimming lessons in preparation for Florida and she loves the water. When I dunk her she comes up laughing, it's awesome! Like I said above, our sleep has gotten much better with usually only one wakeup. Sure beats the 4-5 we were having in December. She looks like such a big girl with two bottom teeth and hasn't been fussy with them coming in at all. She's starting to be able to stay awake during the day for about 2 hours which is nice since we don't have to plan around so many naps. She typically takes a longish morning and afternoon nap and then a 30 minute catnap around 4:30/5. I go back to work mid-march but only for 12 weeks then will be off for the summer. DH is taking those 12 weeks off with her which will be nice. We've put away all our bottles (totally failed at those anyways) and she now takes a sippy cup pretty happily. That's all for my update, hope you ladies are all well and babies are healthy!

I had the biggest mom fail yesterday. I had Liv on her boppy on the couch where I always read to her in the morning. I went three steps away to a basket to grab a book and she twisted and reached for me and fell off the couch. I heard a horrible thud, and then her screams. I turned around and she is lying on the floor. I felt horrible. Oh my goodness, to think of what could have happened, she was lucky she didn't hit her head on the coffee table. I know accidents happen but I feel so stupid for leaving her on her boppy even for one second. As soon as I picked her up she stopped crying and smiled at me, but she must have been so shocked.

It seems to early, she was army crawling for a while and now she's up on all fours and moving. She doesn't really go fast yet, but if there's something she likes she 's after it (anything her sister has!)

I think she's getting taller, she had gained a pound but I weighed her last night and she's back to 11lbs 6oz. She nurses a lot, rice cereal in the morning and squash or sweet potatoes for dinner . She tried an apple (sucked on it) and loved it the other day .

She's sitting up now too, she rolls to her tummy, turns to her side and then pushes herself up. She also can put herself in any position she wants to get what she wants. The pic below is showing just how, I was curling my hair!

everyone's babies are so cute!! I feel like I'm finally coming up for air. E will be 6 months in 6 days, but her next doctor's appointment isn't until Valentine's Day.

Work has been super horrendous right now. I find myself completely skipping my second pump (and I only pump twice!). And now my supply has tanked. I don't know if it's because I've skipped enough times that production is shutting down, or if it's because I had AF last week (back to a 28 day cycle again! uhm...yay?), or if it's because I'm getting zero sleep, or because I'm stressed. E, all of the above? I'm going to make lactation cookies today in a last ditch effort to boost it up.

I thought we had our sleep problems kind of worked out, but now she's waking up multiple times a night, and refusing naps. It's killing me; between that and the crazy at work I'm at a very low ebb.

So far we've had avocado, banana, apple puree, and I let her suck on a piece of sweet red pepper lol. I just picked up oatmeal at the store. I wanted to get Ella's Kitchen, but all those packets of cereal said best before January 2014. I'm having a hard time finding organic butternut squash.

We are still in cloth dipes, and DH is fully on board. He notices that she has a much redder bottom when she's in disposables.

BUUUUT...one of the most exciting things currently chasing around my brain is that my mom offered to me the idea that we could buy her house. She wants something with less maintenance, and is willing to sell it to us at a price we can afford. I'm not sure what her timeframe is or what will actually come to pass, but I really really hope it happens. We're bursting at the seams here. Her house has 500 extra sq ft, a much bigger yard, a big oversized garage for DH to finally be able to work on his cars, a finished basement (okay, it was finished in the 60s, but...lol).

And E is awake now. Sigh.

Oh yeah, and we're really not that much closer to sitting unassisted, let alone crawling! I know I'm not supposed to compare, but I am anyway .she can wriggle a little bit on her belly.

Just had a lunch of oatmeal, tiny bit of banana, and apple purée!

    hello ladies!
I read up a little, your babies are all so cute!!! and glad they are doing well.
We've been really slacking when it comes to solids this time, as opposed to when we did them with my oldest. we didn't start until she was 5 months old, and even now we give her purees maybe 4 times a week? shes loving them when she gets them though!
A has her first ear infection makes me so sad. my son has tubes in his ears due to chronic ear infections, so we hope she's not following in his footsteps. since her cold/ear infection, sleep has been atrocious!! she's up all.night.long! sleeping with us mainly when we hold her in the recliner. we are exhausted!
she's still only rolling from back to belly, and refusing to go from belly to back! she loves to sit up by herself. she'll go about 5-10 mins playing with her toys sitting unassisted(no boppy) before she topples. we've been putting her in the walker and she loves that too! her brother likes to push her around the kitchen
i'll attach a picture in another post from my phone.
