I'm not sure how big or small this picture will be, but here's my inspiration board for our little boy's room - not a real theme, just navy, green, white, and gray!

@raspberries: cute!
I have no idea what we are going to do. We have a three bedroom house, with the master in the basement. Right now we use that as our guestroom , and we sleep upstairs in the bedroom next to our sons. I don't really want them to share a room yet, as my son is a light sleeper. There are several options: move everyone downstairs where the bedroom is large enough for our bed and a crib and turn the playroom into a bedroom. Or cram everyone upstairs. There is a good chance we will move for my husbands job 4-6 months after the baby is born, and I don't really feel like packing everything twice.
So....long story short, this baby probably won't get a nursery until we either move, or i feel comfortable being on a different floor than the kids. I'm wary about different floors after my sons infancy. He didn't sleep through the night ol until two, and while my fingers are crossed this baby sleeps better, I don't want to go up and down the stairs all night.

@OhCaptain: could you and the new baby move down to the master suite, keep your son in his room and turn your old bedroom into a play room?
@raspberries: very cute! love those colors and the map print!

Here is the nursery inspiration board that I made a couple weeks ago. We live in a 3 story trinity style house and baby will go on the top floor which has sloped ceilings. It's a small room and we currently (barely) use for an office/guest room, but I imagined it as the perfect little nursery the first time we saw it.
I wanna keep the walls white. Going to paint the baseboards black and we also have original wide plank hardwood up there. The room will be a lot of neutrals and fun pops of color in the accessories. I think this design will be good for either boy or girl!

@buttermilk: yes, we could do that, although we'd keep the playroom downstairs and turn our room into a guest room. Which still leaves poor second baby with no nursery, haha. Actually, I'm now plenty comfortable being on a different floor than my son, he will be 3yrs3mos when baby is born and already navigates the stairs well (if he were to need something in the middle of the night).

Here are some pictures from my son's first nursery (he had three in his first year due to my husbands promotions and our subsequent moves)! This was the most complete.

Eventually we put a glider in that corner where the basinette is sitting.

I am keeping the nursery/guest room almost exactly the same and after the first 6 months or so, I will move LO #1 into the big bed with a rail and LO#2 into the crib.
This is a pic from a year ago, but it's the same although now we have double curtains on the window (a sheer patterned layer in the inside and gray blackout curtain on the outside).
I tried to keep it somewhat gender neutral the first time around--I'm just planning on getting a cube bookshelf for the corner by the window (and now LO has a play table and chairs there), and will probably add LO 2's name in letters to the wall.

@OhCaptain: yes! Perfect height. We have a big hemnes in our room and just had the changing pad and baskets with diapering stuff there, then moved them to LOs room when we moved her.

Oh gosh. So LO was in our room for his entire first year (in his crib) so I haven't even thought about a nursery for #2. I figure I may work on decorating his room since we moved 2 months ago and haven't painted or anything. I can't decide if I want them eventually sharing a room or having separate rooms for awhile.

@Anagram: love that map! where'd you get it?? i like the idea of doing something really big like that behind the crib. has it worked out well?

I love all the ideas on here! Nursery planning is so fun.
We already have the main things for the nursery, like the bedding and curtains. We're going to figure out wall decor once we have it set up and see what spaces we have that need something. It's a woodland theme with an emphasis on foxes. (My grandmother's maiden name is Fox.) I'm a little worried that it'll be too dark, because the paint color (sort of gold/tan) we picked turned out much darker in the nursery than it was in the dining room (where we'd already used it). Not sure if it's because we went over a much darker color, or if it's something with the lighting. I'm thinking about painting one wall off-white to lighten things.
We have both the crib set pictured and the twin set. For the actual bed we won't have a crib, just a twin floor bed, so the twin set is what will be used. I'm going to make the crib sheets into pillows and use the blanket as decor. It's not like you can actually put those things in the crib with baby anyway. And I want this wall decal, but not sure where would make sense to put it. We'll see once the furniture is all here and in place.

@LauraBear: thanks!! luv those bear cubs. and the piggy rocker is from land of nod.
@Torchwood: love that woodland theme it's super cute!

@Torchwood: I love your woodland theme! I saw the foxes sitting in the trees in the first picture, so I had to google whether or not foxes can climb trees. Apparently they can! Learn something new every day.

If this baby turns out to be a boy, I'm going to have such a hard time with a theme: robots, dragons, or sailboats. A girl would be bird themed, or whatever I find that is pretty that is pink and purple. My office is painted pink and purple (nursery of former owner), so that's the room the baby is getting if it is a girl. There's another bedroom (currently white walls) if it is a boy.

@LauraBear: it's just from Ikea--it's worked out really well. It's securely on the wall, so LO can't move it. It's so huge that I think she thinks it's just the wall anyway--she never messes with it. It would also be cute in a playspace.
Ikea has so much good stuff for kids at dirt cheap prices. Her play table and chairs are from there, too. And her play tent and rug (which are in our living room).

So cute, everyone! LO 2 will move into the nursery, and DS will move into what's now the guest room. I need inspiration for his new room! I'll share pics of the nursery later.

@Ms. RV: I wasn't even going to do a theme with my first, I was just going to do a color scheme, but my husband was very into a theme.

We haven't bought anything for the nursery, but I've been planning. I put together a quick picture of the things I want to get. I want to paint the room Tiffany blue and use pink accents. Because I like to bake, I thought it would be cute to use cupcake accents.
The nursery will be going into our smallest bedroom, which is currently set up as a TV den. We were hoping to get the furniture in there moved out and put into storage this weekend, but now we're not sure if the weather will cooperate.

I think I like this color for LO 3's (girl) room!

Would it be totally insane to create a mini nursery in my closet? It's not a walk in/ just a standard closet about the depth of our crib. In my mind this is a solution that allows me to put baby in our room, without taking up floor space, and I could create a mini "nursery" by decorating the closet and using the existing shelving for some of his/her baby gear. I really don't know where id put my clothes though. We have a second closet in our room, but my husband and I can't share.

@OhCaptain: My coworker who lived on a small condo did this for his son and it worked perfectly! Seems like a great idea if you can afford to lose your storage.

@OhCaptain: Sorry, just saw this! I don't think its bad at all! I've seen it done on Pinterest, and I kind of wish we could do it! We plan to cobed, so it would be nice to not have to give up a room for the rest of her stuff until she's bigger. But our closets are tiny! One of the drawbacks to an older house. In all of our apartments we've had huge closets, and we always said we could turn them into a nursery if we accidentally got pregnant (they were all one bedroom or smaller).

@OhCaptain: @Torchwood: @getjazzy: I JUST saw an article on creating a closet nursery - I would totally do it if our closets were big enough for a crib!

@raspberries: Those make me sad that we can't do it! On top of convenience and space saving, it also makes it easier to decorate and make it cute with less!

@OhCaptain: I agree not a bad idea at all! We have a walkin closet and I've totally considered putting the nursery there - it even has a window. But there are no other closetsin the house so idk where our studf would go. We will prob stick with our plan of the office.

Started painting! It's coming along slowly but surely - we'll be attempting to assemble the crib this weekend. Fingers crossed!

I started an inspiration board for LO's nursery. Its a little on the bright side, but i think it looks fun. I actually ordered that pink and orange rug on easter since it was 75% off! We were thinking of doing three walls yellow with a turquoise accent wall.

@MissLace: super cute! The nursery has a dormered window in ours, so we did the front wall and ceiling a light blue color and then the other three walls are more of a light aqua color. Lots of aqua, blues, and greens in the nursery! I love color.
