@buttermilk: how did you purchase the pregnancy stuff in ABM? I just tried and couldn't find it in the app?

@aprild: There is a *lot* more you can do. I wish I'd done more research and pushed harder with my OB last pregnancy, to be honest. I also had really bad morning sickness (also don't know if it officially qualifies at HG, although I read somewhere that 24/7 severe nausea does---but mine only lasted from 6 weeks until 17-22 weeks) my first pregnancy. I was totally incapacitated for 4 months: I either had to be laying in bed or on the couch while at home, and while I went to work most days, I never actually worked. I just sat in a chair and tried not to throw up basically (I'm a librarian and I didn't shelve even one book for months). It was terrible, and frankly...I just can't deal with it now with a toddler and a full time job.

So, with some suggestions from a friend that has/had HG who was referred to an HG clinic, I asked about my options---and I got several. Zofran alone does very little for me, which was the same last pregnancy--it solely takes away the gaggy urge to throw up all the time, but I was eually miserable in terms of nausea. A constant 9.5 on a scale of 1-10, with a 10 actively throwing up. I couldn't stand for long, I couldn't grocery shop or go into stores. I was basically on bed rest for 4 months.

This time, I am taking a somewhat high dose of Unisom tabs (you can get prescription Diglegis, but I just found out my insurance doesn't cover it, so my OB advised me to stay on Unisom). I take half a tab every 3 hours. Soon, I'm going to switch to a full tab every 6 hours, on the recco of my OB. I also just got a script for Reglan, another anti-nausea drug.

That means I'll be taking Zofran, Unisom (Dyclegis) and Reglan all together. My friend with severe HG is on 4 medications, plus heartburn medication. They are all Class a or B drugs.

Personally, this time around I've found the Unisom tabs more helpful than the Zofran. Last pregnancy, I tried Unisom and it didn't do much for me, so I stopped. But now I think I just wasn't taking enough.

Anyway, if you need more suggestions let me know. Right now, I am still nauseous 24/7 but more like a 4-5 most of the day and maybe a 6-7 at night. I rarely feel like I'm about to throw up, just sick.....but I'm much more functional and able to take care of LO, be at work, able to drive and shop on short trips, etc.

Don't feel bad about taking medications that help. You don't have to just "live with it".

    Good luck! =)

@kjpugs: it's under the phrases section, then scroll to the right and you'll see the pregnancy pack. The app is not the most user friendly!

Going back to my (volunteer) work at the library for the first time since I got pregnant. I'm still having lots of dizziness so we'll see how the up and down of shelving goes. I'm trying to figure out how to handle telling them. I don't want to tell yet, and don't need to, but at some point it'll be obvious and I feel like it's awkward to just wait until then. But I don't know them that well and I'm not sure how to just bring it up? I'll email the volunteer coordinator (since he's basically my boss) but he's in a different branch so that won't help with the people I actually work with.

@Torchwood: I'm actually finding this difficult too - I think it'll be easier to just send an email to my boss, but I can't imagine myself not being incredibly awkward while telling my coworkers in person. I almost hope someone sees me eating crackers for lunch every day and makes a joke about it, so I can say, "WELL, now that you mention it..."

@raspberries: I'm kinda thinking the same thing. I'm taking a snack this time, which I don't normally do since my shift isn't but 3 hours, so if someone asks I might just go ahead and tell. Gah.

@Torchwood: DH and I are taking the same day off for my NT scan (plus, I have other appointments that day). Pretty sure people will start wondering. At this point, I'm okay with kinda letting the news make it's way around. I'm almost 10 weeks and listen to the heartbeat on my Doppler a few times a week. I'm still a little nervous though. It's kinda hard to keep it a secret when you work at the same place with all female teachers (well we have 3 males). Our principal and assistant know, his BFF (who teaches here), and 2 more teachers. I'm just proud of him for keeping it inside this long! Last time, the whole school knew by the time I was 8 weeks, but I didn't work here, so I didn't have to deal with it.

    pear / 1955 posts

@Torchwood: There you go. Bring in some Preggie Pops and leave the wrapper conspicuously in the middle of your station while you're shelving.

@lilteacherbee: Oh man, both of you working in the same place has gotta be tough. I'm sure you're going to be the curiosity of the school for the next 6/7 months!

@lilteacherbee: @raspberries: @Torchwood: I'm starting to feel antsy about telling too. good friend asked me out to a happy hour event tonight and while it's been easy to fake drink in a crowd, I'm sure one on one will be harder! tomorrow is our u/s and I'm so nervous about it I just don't think I can pretend to not want to think or talk about the baby 24/7 but Im not comfortable spilling the beans yet either. I think if all goes well I may start letting the cat out of the bag to a select few next week.

@buttermilk: can you covertly order a "mixed" drink like cranberry and sprite with a lime or a bottled beer that you dump in the bathroom and fill with water to sip?

Well I was waiting to join you girls until my ultrasound yesterday, but things look go so far, so here goes.

    Location: California

    EDD: 8/7/15

    How far along: 9.5weeks

    First child? 2nd

    First doctor appointment: Was 1/7

Any symptoms so far? Exhausted, and some MS

Who have you told? My parents and my husbands immediate family. Since we had a good ultrasound we will probably start telling other family and friends soon.... I'd like to wait a bit longer to tell but DH is getting impatient.

@buttermilk: For my SIL we went out for dinner with MIL/FILand she didn't want them to know yet so I pretended to go pee, caught our waitress off to the side and said SIL would order drinks normally but to bring alcohol free ones.

@getjazzy: @Mrs. J: those are both really good ideas! instead I decided to come home and immediately fall asleep on the couch lol. pregnancy fatigue combined with early morning baker hours are not a good mix lol. We rescheduled for next week so hopefully I can tell her what's up if the u/s is all good tomw.

@MrsStormy: welcome and glad you had a good u/s!

So I took a 8mg Zofran right before I left work and stopped on the way home and got a McDouble and fries. OMG I am probably going to be sooo sick later but I was craving protein and real food so bad. I never eat this crap but right now it's the best meal I've ever had in my life!

@MrsADS: I made DH stop at Wendy's the other day after work and they accidentally gave me TWO spicy chicken sandwiches instead of the one I'd ordered. When DH told me, I swear I almost had tears in my eyes. It was a pregnant lady miracle!

    @MrsStormy: Welcome, and congratulations!

Just got back from the ultrasound, it's a real live baby y'all! Strong heartbeat at 166bpm. I am SO relieved, I was a hot mess laying on that table waiting for the tech to say something. Beyond happy over here!

Still feeling a bit sick here at 9w1d. Exercise is the only thing that is helping! Constipation has been horrible, but I seems to have at least temporary relief today, and I'm feeling less bloated and more like myself. No weight gain or bump forming yet, but I expect to wake up to it everyday!

How is the last month of the first trimester treating you ladies?

    @MrsStar: @raspberries: @lilteacherbee: thank you!!

@Mrs. Microscope: sorry you're feeling crummy. I have also been suffering from constipation, but haven't really done much to try to combat it either. maybe I should get some fiber supplement or stool softener. Have you tried anything?

  30. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@buttermilk: Yay, so cute! I also strongly recommend magnesium for constipation. It works great, is cheap, and my midwife 100% approves.

@Mrs. Microscope: I'm on day 3 of not vomiting! Still have the bad hangover feeling and have zero energy but it's been amazing being able to eat finally (totally not healthy food at all but eating is eating!)
My lovely pregnancy symptom of hemorrhoids is back I think. Urgh.
But 11 weeks tomorrow, this definitely is going faster then my first pregnancy.
Oh and big breast changes for me this week - pretty sure I've gone up 2 cup sizes and they've started leaking. My face is so gross with a bad breakout. I'm ready for the pregnancy glow!

  32. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@MrsStar: Mine were leaking for a bit, but seem to have stopped. But I swear they've more than doubled in size in a matter of days! Glad I wear coobie bras mostly, since they can handle it!

Feeling bummed! Thought my appt was today (since last visit they said 2 weeks and it was late dec) but looks like they accidentally booked it for the right date but in February. An hour off work for nothing.

  35. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@kjpugs: Ugh, I'm sorry! DH had a similar issue this week. They said originally we'd be able to hear the heartbeat at my appointment, so he came, but then they said it was too early. He wouldn't have wasted the time off if he'd known all they'd do is talk to us and have me pee in a cup. So frustrating!

I'm officially at that super annoying stage where my clothes don't fit right and I feel like I look chubby, but I don't really look pregnant and it's not quite bad enough to get my maternity clothes out of the attic. DH wants to go to dinner tonight so I dressed a bit nicer than my usual comfy pants and a hoodie, but I feel like I just look frumpy.

@Torchwood: thanks for the recc! I'll get some tomorrow

    @MrsStar: yay for not barfing!!

@kjpugs: thank you!! that sucks! Are they going to reschedule or do you have to wait til feb?

  37. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@buttermilk: they asked me if I wanted to but they were closing and I had started crying (as I always do these days) so I said I would call on Monday. I have to go in around 8 weeks for this- it was just the scheduling persons error. WOMP!

  38. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@buttermilk: It works great! Just don't overdo it. I accidentally took twice the dosage once, and it was not good.

  39. Mrs. Microscope

    pear / 1788 posts

@buttermilk: I agree with @Torchwood on the magnesium. I have been taking metamucil and nothing until last night when I broke of the milk of magnesia.

@MrsStar: my skin is terrible too! Zits, oily patches, dry red flaky patches, yuck. I feel so gross and not pretty! No glow here for me either!

@Mrs. Microscope: so. Many. Zits! My face, chest, and back! Ugh.
