I'm still debating about the "public" announcement (like Facebook). Last time I put something out at 16 weeks. Lots of people in our daily lives already know. But none of my long distance friends.

@Torchwood: I had a pap at 12 weeks last time and I'll have one this time at my appointment at 11 weeks. I tried to get out of it last time because I hateeee them, but they said it's "mandatory" in my state to have them during pregnancy. I'm seriously already dreading it and my appointment is one week from today

Random question: I know there are a few other mamas in this group that will have two under two once this baby comes along. What are your plans? Will you be a SAHM, WOHM, or WAHM? I plan to continue working full-time and expect that the first few years are going to be quite crazy with two so close in age!

    cantaloupe / 6791 posts

@Mrs.Scientist: Mine will be about 20.5 months apart and I'll be working full-time. DH and I are both teachers (our state is ranked 47th I think in teacher pay...), so being a SAHM just isn't in the cards right now. My mom watches my LO and will watch #2 as well. The good thing about teaching is I'm kinda a SAHM during the summer, plus we always get weekends/holiday breaks off.

@lilteacherbee: It's nice to know there is someone else here who will be juggling two so close in age and a full-time job. Having the summers and holiday breaks off is definitely a perk of being a teacher! I'm not a teacher but I work in academia, which allows me to have a pretty flexible schedule. I think that will help keep me sane during the toughest years. That's really nice that you have your mom around to help out. Unfortunately we don't live close to either of our families. Right now DS goes to day care on my campus, but we haven't decided if we'll continue with day care when I go back to work after #2, or get a nanny/babysitter that can come to our home. A nanny would be so much more convenient than corralling a baby and a young toddler every day before work, but likely more expensive.

@Mrs.Scientist: Mine won't be under two.. but this baby will be born 6 weeks after LO's 2nd birthday so we're close. I'm a full time WOHM and the main bread winner so I don't have an option of staying home. It will be hectic and daycare fees will be insane but it is what it is! If this miraculously turns out to be twins I think DH will have to quit his job until they are school age haha!

@Mrs.Scientist: My first LO will be 2 years, 1 month when I have LO #2, so not quite 2 under 2...but close, obviously.

At this point, I plan to continue working.......buuuutttt I guess that's still up for consideration. Child care where I live is super expensive and I work in education so I don't make *tons* of money.

Daycare in my town is $2000/kid and up. So two kids would be $4000+ per month. GULP. So that's basically out. Both kiddos could commute with me out to the suburbs where daycare is cheaper, but even then, two kids will be $2300/month. Or we can get a nanny for about $3200/month.

If we get a nanny, I will basically just be working for my (great) insurance and to keep my position.

We could live more frugally and live on my husband's salary...he makes more than 3 x what I make. But I have some issues with being a SAHM in my particular situation. Some days I think I would like it, other days I think it would be a mistake.

I'm leaning towards continuing to work (after all, I'm home by 4 ish each day...I am off 3 months/a year). But it's a work in progress.

I work from home full time (but cannot watch a child while working) so we have child care come to us. My husband is a chef and has a weird schedule. We typically use her 15-20 hours a week but pay as much as most daycares- but worth it for her flexibility and convenience. We will still do the same.

Had my appt today, no ultrasound or anythjng fun, but all looks good- got my NT scan scheduled for 2/11.

Thanks for the responses on the pelvic exam question! I've never had an abnormal pap, and am not due for one for another year (which she knows because we discussed it at the appointment), so that's definitely not an issue. She hasn't replied to my email, but unless she comes back with a really good reason why it's important, I'm refusing.

I'm sorry I haven't been around much, I'm still so sick and throwing up like 10 times a day.....
I went to see a doctor at the center for traditional chinese medicine today (my midwife told me to go there) and had acupuncture and some other stuff done and I was so surprised. With my first pregnancy I had acupuncture done by my first (not so good/friendly) midwife and it hurt a lot and she used only 5 needles and it didn't help at all.... this time the doctor used like 30 needles on my back for half an hour and then like 50 while I was laying on my back and I got up and was so hungry and craving hot chocolate and cake... I got both and it stayed down going to see her again the day after tomorrow.
And she told me I look like I'm having a girl... whatever that means...

@Mrs.Scientist: I am currently at home but also working on my dissertation. I will probably stay home at least another year with this LO as the state here pays you about 300€ if you stay home the first year... They will (hopefully) both go to montessori preschool at two or three years old and I'll work again (assuming I'll finish that dissertation)

My appointment went great. Baby measured 11w4d, which technically changes my due date to 7/31, but I think I'll stick with 8/1.

@lil owl: That's really awesome that it worked!

Working on getting our registries updated with the new due date and everything. Can I just say that Target's website SUCKS! I managed to change the due date, but apparently it's going to continue to be "Baby Spooky's Registry" indefinitely. (We called R "Spooky" because she was conceived on a Friday the 13th, and we weren't going to announce her actual name until after she was born.) Also, our Amazon registry has a sudden increase in FL Gators stuff since I last looked at it. Looks like DH has been browsing!

And just to be clear, I don't expect many more gifts this time, since we had showers and everything last time and got a lot. But I plan to also use them for that first Christmas, and I'm sure some people will buy gifts again even if we tell them not to, so it's nice to have registries active. Plus, it's fun!

Helloooooo, ladies! I wanted to wait until after my first ultrasound before I joined ya'll (because I had one prior early miscarriage). Anyway, since I passed my first ultrasound with flying colors, here I am! I'm so pleased to be joining you fine ladies.

Location: Okinawa, Japan (DH is USAF)

EDD: Originally August 11 according to my LMP, but the dating ultrasound bumped me up to August 3!

    How far along: 11 weeks

    First child?: Yes

First doctor appointment: January 13, dating ultrasound. The follow up OB appointment is this Friday, the 16th.

Any symptoms so far?: Exhaustion, light nausea, some insomnia, and acne And the nose of a bloodhound: My dog REEKS!

Who have you told?: DH told a close coworker friend as soon as the test came back positive. He also had to tell his supervisors in order to get approval for some time off to come with me to my appointment. I've only told one cousin. I really wanted to keep quiet about it this time because last time we had to untell people. Not fun. Anyway, DH and I will be telling close family soon, probably this weekend, because we had a positive ultrasound.

    Extra little tidbits:
    - Baby's heartbeat was 163 bpm.
    - According to the Ramzi method, if I'm reading the ultrasound picture correctly, I'm having a girl!
    - I already have two furbabies: a cat and a dog.

@Mizhi: Welcome, and congrats! There are a few of us on here with prior losses, so you're in good company if you need to vent!

Heard back from my midwife about the pelvic exam, and they basically said we could talk about it at the next appointment, but *anything* they recommend is ultimately up to me. I love them so much. Every doctor I've had has had the attitude that they're in charge and I have no say (usually with a side of acting like I was a total idiot), and would have tried to bully me into whatever they wanted. My midwives are nothing like that! And everything that I worry(ied?) about, they're already on board with. Like not taking baby away so I can do skin to skin (their policy is two hours before baby is moved off my chest unless medically necessary no matter what), not supplementing with formula, not assuming I'll want LO in the nursery, etc. They make me so happy!

    @Mizhi: welcome!
@Mrs.Scientist: my LOs will be 20.5 months apart like @lilteacherbee:. I will be becoming a SAHM because daycare for two would be more than my take home salary as a teacher, and my mom wouldn't be able to watch both. I'm also considering a total career change, anyway.

@Torchwood: glad to hear you're so happy with them! That's why I love my midwives.

Appt went well! I'll be eleven weeks tomorrow, but we were able to hear the heartbeat! She didn't want me to get my hopes up just in case, but she tried because she said I was thin enough that we might be able to. 160bpm!

Just wanted to pop in and share the sad news that our little peanut didn't make it. We are heartbroken, but choose to trust in God's sovereignty. DH has been amazing, and my little toddler...well, she's just the balm my soul needs. I'm taking a break from HB, but wishing you lovely mamas happy and healthy 9 months! I'll be thinking and praying for all of you, especially come August

Anyone have any thoughts on telling DH the sex when I find out? I don't think he's realized that I'm the only one getting the email, so I'll know before him. If I find out on a day I have the car, I was thinking maybe buying something boy or girl specific at target? If not I'm not sure. Maybe a sign on the door that he'll see when he walks in?

@Torchwood: When I got the call with the MaterniT21 results, I was at work. On my way home, I stopped and got some blue balloons. I didn't tell DH that I had gotten the call, so when he walked in the door from work that day, I had the balloons sitting in the living room. He loved it!

Is it bad that I haven't even thought about how to tell him this time?! Oops. Maybe have LO give him something?

Here's our little alien baby... just relaxing with hands behind head! At the ultrasound today, our tech adjusted our due date to August 9 too, which means I'm a wee bit further along than I thought!

How does finding out sex work, if you're finding out via ultrasound? Will the tech just tell you in the room while you're looking, or does the doctor need to "interpret" the results or something like that?

    @raspberries: Ah! So cute.

I'm feeling so sick today, I might actually have to leave work. I'm constantly breathing through the nausea and nothing has helped it so far. Not sure what's going on today
