Question! For those who have had ultrasounds so far, do you remember where in your stomach the tech placed the wand? I always assumed my uterus was in the middle of my pelvic area, but my tech had the wand definitely left of center. Laying there I though of Ramzi's method and assumed my baby must have implanted on the left side. But when I asked her which side of my uterus it was on, she said it was in the middle and actually maybe closer to the right. I was so confused, shouldn't my uterus be in the middle of my body, not on the left?

    Any similar experiences?

@buttermilk: I think mine was more or less near the midline - she zoomed over to the left and right at some point to show me the ovaries, but it seemed mainly in the middle to me. Was the wand angled at all? Maybe she wasn't holding it straight up and down?

@buttermilk: I second that if she wasn't looking straight down, it'd make sense. Haven't had an abdominal this time, and I don't remember too clearly from last time. They were always mostly focused super low, because she was head down and most of my ultrasounds were to check her hydrocephalus. That being said, my belly was distinctly lopsided no matter what position she was in, so I assumed at the time that my uterus was slightly offset to the right.

ETA- I don't really think the human body is perfectly symmetrical all the time or anything. As long as things are more or less where they belong, surely there's a bit of variety in exact position?

@buttermilk mine have all been transvaginal!

Let me just say, dental cleaning + filling in the first tri with m/s is a terrible idea... I am sitting here in the waiting room praying I do not barf on anyone

@MrsADS: I completely understand the dentist issues. I had to go in because I have a permanent retainer (which had a loose piece, and the dentist just had to glue it back in place.) But I warned him ahead of time that I was in my first tri and that if I started waving at him, to get out of the way because I was about to puke. Good luck, mama - hope you make it through the appointment in one piece!

@Mrs.Scientist: Our two will be 22 months apart, I plan to continue working part time after the baby is born. I'm not entirely sure what we will do for childcare at that point, right now my SIL watches my daughter 2 days a week and DH and I are able to split up the other days. We will either do a daycare of some sort or a part time nanny.

@yerpie110: I'm very sorry for your loss.

We started to tell friends and family after our ultrasound, I am only 10.5 weeks, so I'm a little nervous about announcing so early, but DH cannot keep a secret if his life depended on it. I also told my boss today, I haven't decided if I will go ahead and tell my dept (who I am close to) now or if I will wait until maybe 12 weeks.

@MrsADS: i had a dentist appointment on Monday, and it was okay. I need a filling but my dentist said she wasnt comfortable giving the anesthetic until 14wks, so i have to go back.

My overall motivation is at an all time low... is the second trimester here yet?

Omg omg got my screening results!!! I really can't tell ya'll the sex before DH, that's just wrong, but everything looks good!! Totally low risk on everything!!! I'm so so SO relieved, and SO excited to know what it is! Don't have the car today, so I guess I better figure out something to do to tell DH that I can do from here!

@getjazzy: I didn't (really couldn't) wait until he got home because of my anxiety levels over the actual screening part of the results. After everything we've been through, I would have driven myself completely nuts waiting even longer to be sure it looks like things are okay.

I'm doing so many happy dances and squealing!

@MrsADS: I've been super putting off going to the dentist. I REALLY wish I'd done it before getting pregnant again! I have huge issues with dentists, and terrible enamel, so I really need to go, but you can't get the nitrous while pregnant and I really don't know if I can handle a filling (which I'm sure I'll need, since I always do) without it. Ugh.

@getjazzy: Also, I think it'll be fun to surprise DH since I didn't do anything cute for telling him I was pregnant. And now I'm curious what your guess is!

@Raspberries @Mrs.Microscope @Torchwood well, I had my cleaning, didn't barf on the dentist, AND it turns out what I thought was a cavity was just staining so I didn't have to get a filling. WOOHOO! I am glad to get that done, though!!

@Torchwood: I am on edge for you until then!!!!!!

My sister is due in early July and is switching doctors. They're doing a scan next week (she'll be 16 weeks I think) at her new doctor and said they should be able to tell the gender- and she thought they were joking! HAHA! What an exciting time! I won't find out til we do our early u/s (bc we're crazy) in early March or very late Feb.

Hi! My first OB appt was originally scheduled for the 29th but I had it moved up so I could get a referral to the diabetes Dr for my GD woes. I had my first ultrasound today and the baby measured correctly and had a good heartbeat!

Thanks everyone, for celebrating with me! And no, DH isn't home yet, so can't tell. It's weird, I'm more excited to tell ya'll, a bunch of random strangers on the internet, than my family. But haven't even announced I'm pregnant yet, and I'm not sure if they'll be weird with my history and all. I already know ya'll will just be happy for us!

Also, started emailing doulas today. It's early, but I have some specific requirements so I want to start narrowing down our choices sooner than later. Hoping it won't be too hard to find someone who is totally okay with my having had a late termination, given that we live in the Bible Belt!
