Thanks everyone! We're so excited! And DH had totally forgotten about getting results this week (how do you forget that?!), so my surprise worked great! And I'll be honest, I really want a girl.

@Torchwood: I had a feeling because of the Monosomy X on your results page (would they include that if it were a boy?). That's what our first one had that we lost at 9 weeks.

And I'm glad you got to surprise your husband! Exciting night for y'all!

@lilteacherbee: Oh good point. I don't see any reason to include it for a boy. Or at the very least I would think it would be listed as no risk at all.

So my MS has gotten worse, and the midwife prescribed zofran. I went to pick it up and my insurance will only cover nine pills every 25 days, unless my midwife calls the insurance/pharmacy! Who only takes 9 pills in 25 days?!

  11. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@Mrs. J: On the one hand, that'd be enough for me, since my MS is very intermittent. On the other hand, most people who need it need a lot more than that! That's ridiculous. Will that at least last you till your midwife can approve more?

  12. Mrs. J

    pomelo / 5132 posts

@Torchwood: I'm hoping it's enough! I'm eleven weeks, so I really don't want too much more of this nonsense...

@Mrs. J: I don't know how you're functioning at work like that. My nausea is very mild and I'm super tired all the time, and I barely make it to 3pm every day. Teaching is one of those jobs where you can't exactly take a break whenever you need a minute. I hope the zofran works and the morning sickness is completely gone in a couple weeks (or less!).

I'm also loving seeing more and more ultrasounds in this thread.

@Mrs. J: that's pretty standard with Zofran because it's expensive. My doctor had to call my insurance, but I still had a 90 day supply by the end of the week (of the generic Ondedestran, or something).

I'm also on Reglan and Diclectin now, all three. I take Zofran as a last resort (sometimes only half a tab) because it gives me terrible, awful constipation. Like...bad things happen in the bathroom that involve me crying, and sometimes glycerin suppositories or natural enemas. It is BAD.

I'm also sick 24/7 and just trying to survive at this point.

Question: Does anyone else's insurance cover Panorama/Counsyl screening, even if they're not high risk? My doctor said they were both completely covered by my insurance, so I went ahead and got them - but I can't find anything on their website that says they're covered, and I'm worried I'm gonna be charged after it's all said and done.

  18. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@raspberries: Mine did not. Can you get something in writing from your doctor now? Though I'm not sure that's help.

  19. Anagram

    eggplant / 11716 posts

@raspberries: my doctor said it would be covered with LO #1 and it was NOT covered, which I didn't find out until after I had LO when I got a 1200 bill. I'm pretty sure I could have gotten my doctor's office to resubmit the claim and say it was necessary (since they promised me it would be covered), but I was a total idiot and dropped the ball.

I had the test in like, January--had Lo in July and didn't get that bill until September! I was deep in a new mommy fog, put the bill aside to start calling insurance and doctor to work it out....and then promptly forgot. =( =(

I didn't think about it again until I got an overdue notice saying they were going to send it to collections--by then, the doctor had no record of them promising me the test would be covered and my husband ended up paying the $1200 to save my credit score.

I felt awful. So, so awful, because I totally felt like it was my fault for not following up immediately.

So just don't let that happen to you!

@Anagram: Yikes. What an awful thing to go through months and months later! You put enough of a scare into me to call the insurance company to ask for clarification - she said the charge depends on how the office codes it, and that she'll check with the coding specialist at my doctor's office tomorrow morning and call me back.

My insurance itself is super ambiguous, but has a section that says, "Prenatal: - Diagnostic Testing & Genetic Counseling: Your benefits include the services of a genetic counselor. These benefits are available to all covered persons in your immediate family. Covered health services include related tests and treatment." Crossing my fingers this means the Panorama/Counsyl tests are included in that.

@raspberries: I did MaterniT21, so a different lab and company, but like @Anagram: it took foreverrrr to get anything from either insurance or the lab. I think it was 13 months after I had the blood draw that I finally received the bill (from May to the next June!). In my case, insurance didn't cover it, but I called the lab and they reduced it from $2700 to $200.

  23. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@raspberries: That sounds like it should be covered under that description. Hope it is!

@Mrs. J: that's crazy! Are you getting generic ondansetron? Check other pharmacies and your insurance. I pay $10 for 21 or 28 pills.

Hi ladies. I haven't been too active in HB, but definitely have been lurking a lot lately. Glad to join this group!

    Location: Florida
    EDD: August 31st, 2015
    How far along: 7+3 wks
First child? Nope. I have a 20 month old boy
First doctor appointment: Next Friday - I can't wait, but am super nervous!
Any symptoms so far? Slight aversion to coffee, very mild nausea...that's about it. Oh, and haaaangry!
Who have you told? DH, my mom and dad, and my sister and her husband. I'll hopefully tell my brother (who lives out of state) after my appt on Friday, and I'm not sure when DH want to tell his immediate family. Then everyone else can wait until I feel comfortable announcing.

So, I found a doula that's super perfect. She had a late loss herself (38 weeks), she's training as a loss doula (to help with births of babies that are lost or have terminal birth defects), she's older than me (odd, I know, but important to me), she has experience with traumatic past birth experiences, she's even worked with my midwives quite a bit before. Only thing is, she's about twice as expensive as I tokd DH I thought a doula would be. My estimate was low, but she's higher than average around here. He does understand how important a doula is in my case, thankfully, but I don't know how he'll feel about it being so much more than he's expecting. Gah!

I got my test results back from the doctor yesterday, and everything came back normal, including the gestational diabetes. Thankfully.

We have an appointment for our 12 week NT scan and genetic blood testing. They're sending us to the hospital to get the test done, and I can't find anything online that says which brand of the test they do there. I also looked at my insurance benefits yesterday, and I don't see where it specifies anything about genetic screening, so I guess I'll have to give them a call. I'm thinking it should be covered because of my age.

Hopefully today is my last day hiding the bump at work! NT scan is Monday and if everything looks ok we will be telling work and then everyone else. I'm exciting because it's getting seriously difficult to hide now and I saw my boss eyeing my mid section yesterday so I think he's on to me

Its my anniversary weekend! 3 years on Tuesday! We are spending a few nights in the mountains. I'm so excited!
