@mrschickpea: Ha! 29 is hardly AMA. That's craziness, my dear. Honestly, I think they consider AMA a bit young as is - I would say 40 is truly AMA. I know it has to do with the odds of chromosomal disorders but even still, the odds are still in one's favor at 35. (Frankly, I just think we live in a society that is obsessed with control. And somehow labeling women as AMA is yet another to attempt to control our health by insisting on additional testing and ultrasounds and monitoring - when frankly, it's pregnancy and childbirth! There are risks regardless of age or race or etc. etc. It's just one of those sad things.) At any rate, after a positive NT scan I wouldn't give the failed Panorama attempts a second thought. You'll have your AS in a bit and I'm sure you'll be breathing a sigh of relief after that.
(And FWIW - I've never had ANY testing - including NT scan - with either of my kids and they've been perfectly healthy. No surprises whatsoever. I only had one ultrasound at 24 weeks with my first, even.)

@pregnantbee: I absolutely agree with your thoughts re: underwire bras and nursing. I think if you're prone to clogged ducts it's probably worth avoiding if possible but if not it's probably just fine. That said, I had THREE clogged ducts in a matter of weeks with my first and I realized it was because I was napping on my side during the day with my bra on. It wasn't even underwire. So PSA to anyone who is new to breastfeeding - don't do that, it's worth taking the time to take your bra off or sleeping on your back. It was so painful. I had 3 clogged ducts and mastitis 2x. It wasn't until I made the connection that I stopped having those issues.

Welcome to all of you July mamas who have joined us! So happy to have you and can't wait to meet your babies this summer.
EDD: 8/11
Team Green, Girl, Boy? We will hopefully find out on the 25th. Just a couple of weeks now.
First child? No, my third.
If not, tell us about your other children. How old? Girl/Boy? I have a 2 year old son (he will be 3 in June) who keeps me on my toes these days and is a busy, busy bee. I have a 1 year old daughter (she will be 2 in July) who is still just the sweetest little thing ever. I love being their mama.
Where do you live? (As specific or general as you'd like) I live in Idaho.
Are you a SAHM, WAHM, WOHM, other? Part-time? Full-time? I SAH full time but WAH part time online.
Current symptoms: Hardly any nausea any more, thank goodness. Just achey. Lots of Braxton Hicks. Hip pain at night. Back pain. Having to pee all the time.
Current cravings/aversions: Not much, honestly. I haven't had a craving in awhile. Happily I can eat beef again...and eggs.
Upcoming appointments: 3/25 for AS and then a regular midwife appointment
What are you most looking forward to? Knowing the gender so we can start thinking/narrowing down names more seriously. And I'm also excited to pick out a coming home outfit, as silly as that sounds. We have all the clothes we will need for either gender so this is just one of those small things I can do to prepare for this particular baby.
Any fun trips planned before baby comes? Nothing. We're saving every time to try and pay off the birth this time AND my daughter's birth. (We will have spent about $22k over the last 3 years to have our 3 kids ... just for regular deliveries, no fertility issues, no c-sections, etc. Our insurance has horrible, horrible maternity coverage but is otherwise pretty decent and it's our only option - through DH's employer - anyways so we're stuck with it. I'm still paying off my daughter.)

@mossyslane: YES to Braxton Hicks. Usually my cue I need to sit down if possible and rest for a bit and drink a glass of water. I tend to overdue it with 2 toddlers running about and...life.

@mrschickpea: it seems like you have arrived at a place of acceptance with the Panorama results, I'm so glad for you. I'm popping in to share what the Genetic counselor shared with me... She said that this test is so new that while they are seeing lots of accurate results that give pregnant parents better information about their developing babes, the tests are also still very much NOT perfect. In our case, sex chromosome abnormalities are the most commonly misidentified. The gal I spoke with had another metric they use once a "result" is provided to determine the probability of the result being true. It takes into account the percentage of fetal DNA, mothers age at conception and something else and for me, came back with a 23% chance that our results were accurate. I'm no genetic researcher, but talking with the counselor combined with the metric she provided when we met made me feel much more like maybe these tests aren't the be all, end all. I'm still glad I'd do it, and I'll probably will again if we have another (not ready to THINK about that yet!) but that's because I am a weirdo, data nut. And, I'll be at least 35 by the time were ready to try again.

@LCTBQE: Ha, thanks . I guess I'm not all that concerned about the pics. It's funny, before gold was introduced everyone used to share pics all the time. Then all of a sudden with gold, everyone would only share on those threads.
As for bras, my boobs are waaay too big to go without underwire. I did have one nursing bra without it that was kinda stretchy and good for this first couple weeks when you're fluctuating so much. But it didn't have much shape or lining so I felt like I couldn't leave the house in it. I eventually switched exclusively to a kind with underwire and it was fine. I only ever had one clogged duct and I don't blame it on the bra.
As for breastfeeding itself, I actually really enjoyed it most of the time. I felt this amazing connection with him. Of course sometimes it's a PITA too .

@MrsKerch: thanks for your perspective! And only 23%? So strange how that works out! Feeling much better this morning about it and excited for the A/S next Friday!

@MrsSCB: what an awesome update! I hope everything works out with maternity leave - i love hearing stories like this - gives me hope for this country and yea, I had zero bump when I announced, but certain women said they "knew" anyway - I think this is just a thing with some mothers - either they suspect everyone is pregnant and then "aha! I was right!" one time, or they have a 6th sense about these things. Or the boobs!
@LCTBQE: with my first, i definitely had those feelings about nursing. but when the time came it felt SO natural. the hormones kick in! even thinking ahead, i'm like "am i really going to do that again? weird!" but I know it'll seem like the most natural thing in the world when the time comes. And I switched to wireless with my first when my ribs started to expand - i started feeling discomfort and just couldn't have anything anywhere near that region. My boobs grew in the first tri last time from 32B to 32D, and this time started at 32C and i'm already back in my D bras!
@mrschickpea: so glad you are feeling better about it
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@Umberto: so glad to hear you are feeling consistent kicks! i was really worried i wouldn't feel them for a loooong time with an anterior placenta. I'm only 15 weeks though so i probably have a long was to go still

Current cravings/aversions: Craving pickles (so cliche haha). I don't really have any aversions right now.

Team Green, Girl, Boy? Team Blue!
First child? No, second
If not, tell us about your other children. How old? Girl/Boy? My daughter is 3.5
Where do you live? (As specific or general as you'd like) South
Are you a SAHM, WAHM, WOHM, other? Part-time? Full-time? WOHM FT
Current symptoms: BH, lots of RLP, and fatigue setting in pretty early in the evening. Working out in the morning helps with the RLP and (morning fatigue), but it takes a toll by the afternoon!
Current cravings/aversions: Craving fruit, anything with lemon, and salt (like a bacon cheeseburger with tots kinda salt!)
Upcoming appointments: A/S on March 30; I need to schedule my 20 week appt.
What are you most looking forward to? I can't wait to see my daughter with her baby brother.
Any fun trips planned before baby comes? We're considering NY or Europe, but timing is tight with DH's work/travel schedule. I would really love to just spend a week at the beach with LO.

@LCTBQE: I had nightmares about breastfeeding before I had my first. And then after birth the hormones do kick in. It was so natural to continue providing for my child. I carried the baby and provided everything for 9 months, so then to go to the connection with breastfeeding was just natural.

@CoffeeMom: yay for finding out the sex next week! any feelings either way?
can we revive the appt list? we have so many new people now and I have no clue when anyone's scans are!

@LCTBQE: The gold fairy is still a mystery to me so far!
@coopsmama: Thank you, and I'm excited for you to find out the gender! Your A/S will be here so soon
@Pirouette: Yes, a few people have said, "Oh I had a feeling!" and I want to be like, "No you didn't!" Unless they just think everyone might be pregnant, like you said, haha.
My waistband is getting a bit tight so I just ordered a Bellaband from Amazon. I can't decide if it'll be worth it, but I'm just hoping to avoid buying pants for as long as possible. I have such trouble finding regular pants that fit right, I can imagine maternity could be even harder! I think I might finally break down and do some maternity shopping at Target this weekend, though, because I want to start stocking up on longer shirts...and my H is out of town on business for the weekend so I need stuff to do
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@MrsSCB: once it gets consistently warm out, I don't wear pants at all - skirts, dresses every day for me. So with my first, who was due in December, I didn't buy any maternity pants until the 3rd tri, and I suspect I won't need any at all this year, given it's already getting warm out and will be the rest of pregnancy (even more true for you in TX!) I don't know how tall you are, but you're thin, and I didn't wear a single maternity shirt my entire pregnancy. I just bought a size up for length in shirts and that got me all the way through. So you never know, you may not actually need to delve into maternity for shirts! But i'm only 5'3, so that strategy was easy for me.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@Pirouette: I am also 5'3" so this is very helpful I do hope to mostly wear dresses, especially because it will be so hot here. I think I should be OK for a little longer with my regular dresses, because they're not very tight, but maybe it would make more sense to check out my options in that department vs. the shirts. Thanks!

I went to pick up dd from preschool and one of her school mates pointed at me and asked me "what's that round thing in your shirt?". I said its a baby. Then she asked "how many babies are in there?!".
cherry / 239 posts
@Pirouette: At first I thought it was a boy, then I was sure it was a girl. I've had dreams for each, so who knows! My daughter always says that it's a girl whenever she is asked, and has announced to everyone at her school that she's having a sister. So maybe her intuition is better than mine!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@LCTBQE: I bet you did feel movement! How exciting. And yes, I need new bras too. I just went from a 34B to a 36B and that has helped a lot. I randomly had two 36 bras laying around but they are hot pink and black so I can't wear half my shirts. And really, I'm not a B at all. I don't know what I am but I am something bigger for sure - especially now. And thought of breastfeeding hasn't grossed me out yet. It sound exhausting. And maybe I'm grossed out a tad because in general I personally hate milk. And then if someone is watching my baby, like my mom, i will have to give her little baggies of my own breast milk. I wonder if she will be grossed out. I might be grossed out just by that. But I don't know if that's breast feeding per se that's grossing me out. I'm still going to try to do it though!
@pregnantbee: Hahahahah. "I like expensive bras." I like YOU!
@MrsSCB: Hooray for having a very accommodating workplace! And wow. Your state disability pays 70%? That's amazing. I think CA only pays 55%. Either way. it sounds like you have a great situation.
@mrschickpea: Ahhh.... 29. You are a baby!
@coopsmama: Thanks for the tips about clogged ducts. Do you think a sports bra would cause the problem? Luckily I hate wearing bras and usually take mine off on my car ride home from work. I never wear one at home.
@OldpuebloJenn: That's such a funny comment from a kid!!! How old was she/he. Oh my gosh. Only kids can get away with saying stuff like that.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
And I had my appointment today and baby girl had a heart beat at about 145. Phew. A heart beat. Thank God.
And my doctor said I might need to look into a "low oxalate diet". Has anyone ever heard that? There was evidence of crystals or something in my urine (sorry if that's gross). I looked up oxalate diets and I can't imagine what I'm eating that's causing the problem. Like, am I eating too many mandarin oranges? I have about 4 a day.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@agold: oh not the state, I don't think Texas pays anything. That's how much the short term disability that my company pays into gives us. Also, I have never even heard of oxalate. I hope it's nothing too difficult for you to accommodate!
@OldpuebloJenn: lol someone needs to give that little girl tips on what not to say to a pregnant woman!
@MrsBeluga: me too! You hear so much about companies not wanting to accommodate pregnant employees, so it was a nice change of pace
coconut / 8472 posts
@agold: I'd be more worried about a sports bra, since it would compress all over. You might need a bra for a while, even during sleep because of leaking. I had to wear breast pads all the time for the first few months. And when I was feeding DS, the other side would leak.
apricot / 442 posts
@MrsSCB: I think you should try on some maternity pants, they feel so much more comfortable and look pretty decent. Shirts are a totally different story though! I think maternity work shirts look like giant polyester potato sacks, and I opted for looser non maternity shirts for as long as I could last time.
Also dresses, total best friend last time around!
coconut / 8472 posts
I like maternity clothes because they make me look pregnant, vs just looking fatter. I never really liked the bella band things, they always just rolled down on me. I'd say if you're going to need pants at some point while pregnant, you might as well buy them now and get more use out of them.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@MrsSCB: Yea try on some maternity stuff. Some shirts you may be able to go a size up, but dresses and tanks, as you go up, the arm holes and bust size also goes up a lot. So the proportions may be way off. Maternity stuff really isn't too terrible!
pomelo / 5257 posts
@MrsBeluga: @T.H.O.U.: I think I will just poke around target this weekend and try a bunch of stuff on. Pants are pretty much always too long on me and I'm too lazy to get them hemmed. But I typically just opt for the fake it till you make it option of folding the excess length under to look normal length Maternity clothes have definitely come a long way since I was born at least...I've seen some of my mom's outfits -- yikes.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@agold: I'm sure you'll be fine at home if you don't usually wear one. I did leak like @ShootingStar: mentioned but I much prefer soft nursing tanks with a nursing pad in them for sleep. And I never had clogged ducts when I did that.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@MrsSCB: I found that Kohls used to carry a much better in store option than our target. But in general most stores aren't carrying things besides the basics.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@MrsSCB: I'm firmly in "why be uncomfortable if maternity clothes can fix the problem" camp. I prefer to buy maternity pants sooner and then wear them constantly rather than hold off and not get as much use. FWIW.
ETA: I'm 5'2" and the short length pants at Motherhood actually fit me without my needing to get them hemmed. Depending on how long your legs are compared to the rest of you, you could prob do that. There aren't as many options at Target.

@agold: yay!!!
So much that I want to write back to but just checking in to say our appointment also went great this morning I am so relieved and excited. HB was 155-160 and I have a posterior placenta, so I do wonder if it's movement that I've been feeling. We also got a nice gender confirmation
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@OldpuebloJenn: awww...that would be totally obnoxious from an adult, but from a little kid, it's pretty cute
@agold: yeaaaaaa heartbeat!! I'm the same way with bras. HATE them. I did leak the first few weeks, but I still never wore bras. I wore nursing tanks or just regular tanks with shelf bras, and was able to wear pads with those if i needed. anything to avoid wearing an actual bra haha. Nursing bras aren't so bad though, compared to normal bras.
@CoffeeMom: haha my daughter did the same. she told EVERYONE about her baby sister. maybe your daughter has better intuition though we shall see!
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@LCTBQE: ahhhh yay!!! hello cutie pie! was this your 16 week anatomy scan? I feel like you and I are the only ones who have 2...must be a NY thing
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@pregnantbee: 100% agree with this. Comfort wins when pregnant. I still look put together but oh my goodness as soon as I feel the need for maternity clothes I go all in.
