Also, took my first bump photo, in my work bathroom. I finally feel like I can see a little something!

@T.H.O.U.: OMG. My husband will cut up my meat, too, if its at all connected to a bone. Glad I'm not the only one who eats like a child.
@pregnantbee: I love your cute, distinct baby bump!
@Pirouette: Ahhh... I think that becoming parents is going to be the most exciting thing to ever happen to us as a couple. I really can't wait to see how it all goes down. I think its going to be sweet!
@MrsSCB: Yes, it is top secret! And it was hard to find. Its basically like going back to the bathroom in a little deli-type shop, if I recall correctly. Its very small inside. But the bartenders were awesome. And we actually went on a whim on a week night early in the evening and got in without a reservation. We had to sit at the bar, but we like that the most! And oh my gosh. you are just the most adorable pregnant girl. That's a cool bathroom. And you look like you are in a party dress and tights! And please tell me how you got the "17 weeks" on the picture.

@agold: @AprilFool: @pregnantbee: Thank you, I'm excited to finally be growing a little (I'm sure I'll regret saying that when I'm huge, haha).
@agold: It's the Baby Pics app -- I think it cost $3.99, but it has lots of little stamps like that to put on the photos. It works a lot like instagram.

Well, my Panorama came back with low fetal DNA again
The nurse offered the quad screen but I was reading that it can only be 82% effective and can give false positives? Our NT ultrasound looked great and we have the A/S next week, should we just leave it as is since I'm low risk? I'm torn on what to do
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@mrschickpea: Oh no! Isn't there another reason it can be inconclusive is if its multiples.
clementine / 928 posts
@T.H.O.U.: definitely not the case for me! After researching a bit apparently it's been happening to quite a few people
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@mrschickpea: Oh gees. What a bummer and a PITA. Do you have pay for it at all if they aren't able to give you any results? If you don't have to pay for it a third time, you might as well just take the test again. Otherwise, if you don't plan to abort the child if you get a test result you aren't happy with, then maybe just move on from it, especially since you're baby has already been deemed low risk. I'm so sorry you have had this same sucky result twice now!
pear / 1718 posts
@mrschickpea: *augh* That really sucks. I would either do the test again or request an amnio instead.
@agold: Parents looking for more definitive answers with testing aren't always deciding between just aborting and not.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@pwnstar: Oh gees. So true. I just don't know what you can do to prepare for some of the trisomies and whatnot so I always think about termination. But I know there's so much else that people think about that I don't really have a clue about.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@mrschickpea: Oh, no! That's so frustrating, especially since isn't this the 2nd time you've taken the test?? Before the NIPT existed, the option was generally just the NT scan and corresponding bloodwork. I'm no doctor, but if that came back low risk, then I probably wouldn't do another NIPT or anything more invasive.
clementine / 928 posts
Thanks ladies, I did tell her that we would just wait until next weeks A/S unless I start panicking before then
To top it off they had "lost" my results and I had to call after 15 days! The inconclusive was probably faxed last week and I could have known sooner and maybe got another test. I'm just trying to stay away from Google
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@mrschickpea: Deep breaths. If your NT results were low risk, then you are probably fine. The NIPT didn't exist when I had DS. We were fine.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@MrsSCB: your bump is adorable!
@mrschickpea: ughhhhh how frustrating! But honestly, if the nt was low risk, I wouldn't worry about retesting. I never had panorama with my first, and felt the nt scan was sufficient, so just because it exists now doesn't mean the nt isn't good enough. Also, for most issues, I would think they'd start seeing signs at the anatomy scan as well, so you should feel better when that goes well
nectarine / 2461 posts
@mrschickpea: oh, that is so disappointing and frustrating, lady. I'm sorry you didn't get the reassuring result you were hoping for, but the good NT measurement means a lot. pregnantbee and pirouette sound really sage in their reasoning, especially if you're not AMA, which it didn't sound like you are? and if you're really worried and you just can't shake it in a few days, there's absolutely nothing wrong with getting an amnio. The risk is extremely low and people do it every day.
nectarine / 2461 posts
@MrsSCB: hooray for your good scan and telling your boss and establishing that you want to be at your job
and extra hooray for your bump, you look wonderful.
@ShootingStar: as do you! there she is
I love these bump pictures, guys. and you're brave to post your face on the internet! I don't have the guts
@dcw6411: @pregnantbee: so glad your anatomy scans went well! they're starting to look more like humans and less like aliens, huh? my first anatomy scan is tomorrow, right at 16w--feeling pretty excited/nervous.
my updates: I *think* I might have had a couple instances of movement in the past few days, but I'm not sure if I willed myself into feeling it
it just lasted for a few moments each time and was kind of like a tiny flicking feeling, like someone flicking a fly away with their index finger, and it sort of hurt in the smallest scale possible for pain, like a .01 on the 1-10 pain scale. does this sound right to yall, or am I fantasizing?
and the life-changing update is that I graduated from my usual 30C bra to a 32DD and it is **amazing** and there are angels singing and stuff. I got the Natori Feathers bra and it is the best thing on earth.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@LCTBQE: Thank you! That *might* be the feeling of movement! So exciting! I hope you have a hreat scan tomorrow. And hooray for bras that fit. Mine are getting really uncomfortable, but I'm not sure I want to get new regular bras or break out nursing ones from last time. I'll be wearing them so long after that I really don't want to start yet.
nectarine / 2461 posts
@pregnantbee: I just realized I missed your bump update! LOVE it, you look great
I don't totally trust what I felt as movement, but it definitely was a different sensation than cramping or gas or any of the other beautiful feelings. and that was how I was feeling about my bras and jeans and tights, too--like I wasn't ready to give in to the long haul-- but man, what a relief to just surrender.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@LCTBQE: Aww, shucks. Thank you. I can't believe I'm so close to 20w. I'm willing to bet that was movement. Just wait -- it gets even better. I just found out that I have an anterior placenta, so that's a good reason why I can't feel anything yet. I can't wait.
I like expensive bras and would definitely get some good ones again once I'm done breastfeeding. My size is hard to find on the cheap, so getting new ones now means $$$. We'll see if I feel like it becomes urgent.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@LCTBQE: Haha. Thanks for saying I sound sage in my reasoning about the NT scan. Obviously I'm not a dr, but I did go through this once without the "fancy" DNA test

No BH yet this pregnancy, but I had them all the time for my first. All turned out well.

Eek, I just found out I have gold now -- did one of you guys buy it? If so, thank you so much, that is so thoughtful!
@pwnstar: @Pirouette: @LCTBQE: Thanks! So fun to actually feel like I'm starting to look pregnant
@mrschickpea: I'm sorry, that sounds really frustrating. I think I would probably also give up at this point and wait to see how the anatomy scan goes, especially with good NT results. I didn't do the NIPT because it wasn't covered, but I feel good about the NT and my upcoming anatomy scan!
@LCTBQE: lol at the bra update -- I think I need to do that soon! I'm normally 32D...but my cups definitely runneth over these days (and really, they have for awhile). My boss said yesterday that she had suspected I was pregnant, and since I haven't been very bump-y yet, I wondered to myself if she noticed my boobs are so much larger, hahaha.
So I found out from HR today that maternity leave is actually better than I thought. I knew that we have to use STD (which my company pays into for everyone) and that it would pay 70 percent, but I assumed it would be for six weeks or eight weeks with a c-section, which seems common. Turns out it's for up to 90 days! So I won't have to take any time unpaid after all. PLUS, I told my boss' boss today, because I work with him a lot. And he told me that they've actually been working on changing our maternity leave policy to extend it and cover 100 percent salary. He said, "Paying 70 percent and expecting you to make up the difference seems like penalizing people for having a family." So fingers crossed this actually comes to fruition! I won't count on anything until it's official though...

@pregnantbee: Thank you! Yes, I'm very excited for the four year gap:) And thank you re: the braxton-hicks comment--I had the opposite experience of hardly any with my first pregnancy and this time I've already had them for weeks. ... And yay, July 30th!
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@MrsSCB: Oh my! I hope your maternity leave policy gets better. I get angry every time I think about leave in the U.S. I just met with HR this morning to find out what the deal is now since it was a bit different than when I had my son. It's all so confusing. The way it seems now, it looks like I may actually be able to stay out until Jan. 3 with a combination of various paid and unpaid types of leave. Phew.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@pregnantbee: it is very confusing -- the benefits manager basically gave me a 50-page packet and said, "You'll have to fill out this form, your doctor has to sign this" etc. I'm definitely going to have to take time to study it all. That's awesome you'll be able to be out until January!
nectarine / 2461 posts
@pregnantbee: right! I keep reminding myself that the Panorama is basically brand new, and if I'd had my first pregnancy a couple of years ago it wouldn't even have been discussed. my OB actually told me it was only reasonably priced ($250~) or covered by insurance as of Dec '15/January 2016 in her experience, so 1 month before I slid in and got it.
and I know what you mean about spending money on temporary clothing, I don't like doing it either. I didn't want to buy nursing bras though because I love underwire--is it correct that nursing bras aren't underwire because it impedes your flow or clogs your ducts or something? is anyone else here grateful to be having a child and to ostensibly feed it, but also moderately disgusted by the thought of breast feeding?
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@LCTBQE: I so much prefer underwire b/c I just don't feel supported without it. "They" say not to use underwire nursing bras because they can cause clogged ducts which are really painful and can then cause mastitis which is really not good. HOWEVER, I believe underwire can cause these problems because so many women do not actually wear the correct size! If you wait for your milk to regulate and then get fitted by a professional -- think Nordstrom -- and you are truly wearing your correct size, chances of a problem decrease. I ended up switching to underwire after a professional fitting and purchase, and I never had a problem. Note: Nordstrom doesn't tend to display their nursing bras, but many have a "secret" nursing bra section that you can ask about. Not sure if all carry them, though.
And, no, I'm not disgusted by the thought of breastfeeding. I did so for 18 months for my son. I'm kind of not all that looking forward to doing it all over again, though, because it is SO MUCH WORK. At least it was for me. And I will be returning to work after maternity leave, and pumping at work took so much time and was exhausting. But if I can do it again, I'll do it again.
nectarine / 2461 posts
@pregnantbee: hahaha regarding "they". I'm also a believer in the professional bra fitting--I was visiting home last week and my friend and I went to one of those places with all the middle-aged women with measuring tapes around their necks. good to know underwire isn't totally verboten.
ETA @MrsChickPea: Petticoat Fair on Anderson Lane--recommended. it's a dream.
I'm sure I'll get over being freaked out by the thought of breast feeding very quickly, just new over here and intimidated by pumps and latching

@pregnantbee: @Pirouette: thanks ladies. I am feeling better about it but it's hard now to wonder! But you're right, these tests weren't even available just a couple years ago and most people's babies were just fine. Perspective.
