@T.H.O.U.: Being miserable seems to make sense for going out on leave. I felt that way yesterday and completely couldn't function.
How early does every one else plan to take off before your due dates?

@agold: Haha, well we have a fairly big house in an expensive area. We bought a house a couple years ago that was kind of a stretch for us, and we're just now getting to the point with raises and promotions that things are more reasonable. But even though we each make good money, our life isn't really set up to live on one salary.
But $27k for IVF? That's so terrible that that's what it takes to have a child.

@agold: I went out at 37 weeks with #1 and she was 9 days late so I spent a lot of time sitting around and waiting. This time I want to go to at least 38 weeks, maybe 39? I only work part time so hopefully I will feel up to it.

@ShootingStar: Yep, we live in an expensive place, too, I suppose. I'm nervous to make a leap to our next house which will absolutely render us truly house poor in the most possible way. But thinking about IVF again for baby #2. I would like to wait and try naturally for a couple of years, but then I will be well over 35 and worry about egg-issues IVF-wise. At least it will be about 10K less this time around because I no longer care to toy with all the pre-ivf options.

@agold: I literally left work for my 38 week appointment and was induced a few hours after arriving for the appointment. It also happened to be a Friday. I will probably do the same this time (work until I deliver), which is easy-ish to say because I know if I haven't had LO by 39 weeks I will be induced.

@agold: Last time, I ended up leaving about 3w before my EDD. DS arrived at 40w2d, so I'm glad I had that time. I was SO uncomfortable at the end and had just launched a huge summer project. That time, I didn't have to spend any PTO to be out on medical leave, so I left. This time, I'm not quite sure when I want to be out, but probably 2-3 weeks before EDD depending on how uncomfortable I am.

@agold: I worked in the office until 39 weeks and then from home till my due date! I will work until my due date this time. This is just the kind of person that I am!
Nothing new in the baby front over here but we just celebrated my daughter's 2nd birthday over the weekend and it was lovely. My heart was so full. First time moms, you have so much to look forward to!

@agold: @ShootingStar: I'm with you guys on the one salary thing -- that would not be ideal. We could probably make it work, but I think we'd have to drastically change our lifestyle.
I'm hoping to work up until my due date, but maybe that's not realistic? Sounds like it was somewhat doable for you, @pwnstar! I do think I could work at home closer to the end if necessary.
I think this little guy is going through a growth spurt. I feel like all of a sudden my belly is getting bigger and I've been feeling a lot of RLP, mostly on the left side. Yuck!

I had my 20 week midwife appointment today, and it went really well. I can't believe I'm already halfway through (well, I'll be 20 weeks tomorrow). It was just a normal appointment, but we did get to hear the heartbeat, which is always reassuring. I get nervous because I haven't felt much movement yet (anterior placenta). We have the anatomy scan on Thursday, and should find out gender!!

@teawithpaloma: "This is just the kind of person that I am". So I am absolutely the kind of person who would work up to my due date. I still am contemplating do it because I cannot stand the thought of not participating in the final part of a project for which I did all of the grueling prep work.
But I was very recently changing my thoughts on this when I learned that my state will pay me 55% of my salary beginning at 4 week prior to my due date. So if I'm going to be paid some, then I've been thinking about why not taking off the time the state allows me to have? If I wasn't able to get state disability pay, then I absolutely would be working up to my due date because I need the income. So for girls who are working up to their due dates, is it because of income? If you could take 4 weeks off prior without regard for income, would you? I just want to make sure I'm thinking this through like a normal person and that I'm not missing something obvious here.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@agold: Obviously I've never done this before, so my thoughts probably don't count for much but at this point, four weeks before my due date sounds like a lot. I think I might go stir crazy feeling like I'm just waiting around for the baby to come that last month! I'm sure plenty of people would love that extra time, though.

@CoffeeMom: Glad your appointment went well. And scan on Thurs.? Aaaahhh! I can't believe we're just about half-way there!
@agold: @teawithpaloma: I thought I'd work up until close to the end.....but then realized it wasn't worth it. For what it's worth, I'm honestly grateful for the time I had between work and having my son. I made a bunch of freezer meals, rested, read, met friends for lunch, did things for me like haircut, nails that I knew I wouldn't have much time for after baby. Did some final nesting. I am glad I got that break. I'd like another break this time to do some of the same, as well as spend some extra time with DS.
ETA: It's a very individual decision. I wasn't bored at home. It also helped that DS arrived only 2 days after my EDD. Not sure what I would have done if he came weeks late.

@MrsSCB: Okay. I can imagine the thought of going stir-crazy as something to avoid.
@pregnantbee: I absolutely imagine doing all of the things you just mentioned. Most of my girlfriends are stay-at-home moms. My mom is retired. I think I could find something to do each day of 4 weeks.
And hi - complaint of the day (as if all of my posts couldn't already be considered a complaint in some way) - I think I'm getting an ear infection!! What am I, 8 years old? I haven't had one since maybe elementary school.

@T.H.O.U.: Thanks so much for checking on us!
I'm still around in the sense that I'm on Hellobee, but I haven't been able to keep up with the August 2016 thread (I totally want to; I just literally can't keep up with all the posts - LOL). I don't really know how to jump back in and have been waiting to see if any other August 2016 threads will pop up, but the only other threads I have seen are Gold. I would love to somehow reconnect with you ladies, though!

@agold: i just have whatever PTO I have saved up if I want to get paid. So about 12 weeks whether that's before or after delivery. So obviously I want to save that for time with the baby. Even if I had 55% of my I come, that's still a bit cut of $ to miss out on for a month when physically I could be working (although I have a relatively low stress desk job).

@ClairHuxtable: hi there! I'm sure more threads would help keep us organized. Right now it is a huge long post! Are you going to find out what sex of baby you're having? What is your older child?

Okay ladies, just wanted to let you know that we had our anatomy scan this morning, things looks absolutely perfect, and we are having a BOY! For sure 100% a BOY, he had no shame showing his parents and the ultrasound technician all his BOY parts:) Exciting and a little scary too

@ClairHuxtable: hi! Don't ever feel you need to keep up around here - but please feel free to pop in whenever you feel like it! There's no requirement that you have to read all the prior posts or anything, and let's be honest, it's mostly 90 pages of rambling thoughts around here
@MrsBeluga: Ahhhh yay! I feel exactly the same way about having a boy
@agold: my last day was a Friday and I had a planned c section on Monday. For me, it wasn't just about the money (although it was a factor, considering I was paid nothing while I was on leave) but more about continuity with my boss and being there for him as long as I could. I also would have gone stir crazy being home waiting for my c section!
@teawithpaloma: aww happy birthday to your daughter! Did you do a big party? We did a family party for my lo's 2nd a few months ago
pomelo / 5257 posts
@MrsBeluga: congrats, welcome to team blue!
@ClairHuxtable: agree with @Pirouette: just pop in any time! how are you feeling these days?
apricot / 490 posts
@pregnantbee: @agold: it was definitely financially motivated for me. I didn't get paid a dime during my first leave and won't my second leave so I just need to work. Last time I was induced 6 days after my due date so I still had time to chill. If I had paid leave I could sene enjoying 1-2 weeks at home to relax and make freezer meals.
apricot / 490 posts
@Pirouette: we had 25 family and friends over to our place for the afternoon. I made too much food but it was really nice! I don't think we will have parties with her friends till she is 4 or so!

@mrschickpea: I still haven't met anyone who didn't want to find out the gender who had it blown by a technician or doctor--maybe it just doesn't happen that much? Friday is so soon
@AprilFool: glad you had a great scan! @coffeemom: and glad your appointment was reassuring. so excited to hear about your gender
@pregnantbee: the time off you described before your birth sounds awesome, and I don't have the work ethic and enjoy cooking and preparing (and primping!) too much to even pretend that I'd want to be at my job up until the EDD. but, when I don't work I don't get paid, so I'll probably try to go up to 39 weeks or so. @MrsSCB: @teawithpaloma: @agold: @Pirouette: @pwnstar: all you ladies sound very driven and motivated and responsible. I need to get on board with this
@MrsBeluga: YAYYYYY!!!!! how exciting! congratulations. and sounds like all went well health-wise, too. wonderful

@teawithpaloma: @Pirouette: just seeing you're also in the no-paid-mat-leave camp. I guess money is pretty motivating

@mossyslane: @MrsSCB: @pwnstar: I got the aforementioned leggings and also a dress (for $27 on amazon) from ingrid and isabel, and then saw they were having a big sale on their own website and ordered a couple of workout tank tops and a skirt for like $49 total. so far I really like the products, they don't feel cheap and they're so comfortable. @MrsSCB let me know how you like the bella band! @mossylane you've done much more research than I have on the leggings, thanks for the heavy lifting, lady. I meant the $50 seamless ones but not going to bother with them now since you didn't think they were so great--maybe I'll skip straight to the target version. I love these but not enough to pay eighty eight freaking dollars twice
nectarine / 2591 posts
@agold: Some of my leave is paid for by the government but any time I take off before the birth is unpaid. That's some of the reason I want to work a bit longer, one extra pay would be nice but mainly it's because I had too much time on my hands last time.
@MrsBeluga: Congrats on your boy! That is exactly how I would feel about a boy too

@AprilFool: Hahaha. Sorry I forgot you're TG What a cool image. I'm no good at guessing these things.

@AprilFool: I'm going with girl every time I see one of those images I just think how the next generation is going to think all this wildly cool technology is so dated!
nectarine / 2591 posts
@LCTBQE: I know! My friend is pregnant told me 3d was creepy and they look like aliens. Maybe when the technology first came out but now it's so clear. I can't imagine what it'll be like when our kids have kids.
nectarine / 2461 posts
@AprilFool: I think they look like mummies but I can't wait to get one myself! by the time our kids are pregnant they'll probably be able to do a CGI of what the fetus will look like as a fully grown adult and then you can genetically select to have a smaller nose or something? just a shot in the dark

@agold: I haven't caught up on the thread, so I may be repeating others, but, I went up to going into labor. I planned on going until my due date. I liked it, it worked for me, and it was a slow time in the office and my boss was out. In hindsight, 3.5 years later, I may have taken a few days off prior, to do things I miss today- movie marathons, reading books, eating food without having to share.
