@MommySLP: just catching up, so glad you went in and are feeling better now. Fingers crossed you can get everything under control!

@Torchwood: when do you start using your Doppler? I just ordered one.

@MommySLP: glad it wasn't anything else! Hopefully you'll be on the upswing soon.
@Mrs. Pickle: I think they say between 10-12 weeks you can try and not to stress if you can't find it. I tried just after 9 weeks, 9+4. Some people on YouTube do it at 7-8 weeks, but I think that would be kind of silly to try that early. Even 9-12 weeks is on the early side. And watch some YouTube videos because they're quite helpful in telling you sort of what to do and listen for.

@Petitduck: My understanding is that there is blood work that goes along with the NT scan, but it's not the same as the Panorama testing that we're doing. But I've never had the NT scan done so I'm not positive what it entails.
kiwi / 624 posts
@Torchwood: I didn't have it last time so I don't entirely know either even though she explained it to me. I know I do the scan and then go do the blood test right after and then wait two weeks. Apparently you used to have to do two blood draws a certain time apart but now it's only one. She said if you are given at risk numbers then you go see a genetic counsellor and get a new blood test that she said was 99.5% accurate in detecting downs and one other trisomy instead of having to get an amniocentesis-maybe that's similar to panorama. They apparently don't do a blood test for spina bifida anymore because she said the ultrasound technology is so good now they'll be able to see a problem.
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@Petitduck: @Torchwood: We had the NT scan (with an amazing tech who showed us way more than I think he really needed to check out) ... scan took about 30 min, then we immediately went for the blood draw. We had to wait for results for a few days, and both tests were negative.
I've had many friends only get the associated blood test and not the ultrasound. We are going to do both again, because I am at a higher risk for neural tube defects, and we'd want peace of mind sooner than later.

I feel like shit today ... and mentally, I am really starting to feel down about feeling like shit. I just want to be back to "normal" ... to be able to play with my 3 year old, and able to help my husband around the house. Sigh. Just one of those days.

@littlejoy: I'm sorry you're having a rough day. I totally get it. I hope you at least get a little reprieve from symptoms soon, sometimes even a day or a few good hours is enough to feel like your can make it through. At dinner tonight we both confirmed that there's no way in hell we're ever doing this again. My body doesn't do pregnancy well and it just sucks for our whole family.

@littlejoy: I feel your pain. I feel horrible too---even with the prescription meds. It's starting to feel like I'll never see the end of this. Hoping it passes quickly for both of us.

@Cole: @MommySLP: Thanks for the encouragement!!
I have a low fever (100.5) ... waiting for my midwives to call back. Maybe that's contributing to my "feeling like shit" today.
apricot / 431 posts
Anyone still have some cramping? I haven't had any since 6 weeks---I'm 8+3 today and have felt some light cramping on & off today. Nothing painful, but definitely noticeable. I'm guessing it's just from my uterus growing. Can't wait til this trimester is over!!!
kiwi / 624 posts
@littlejoy: I had that at 6.5 weeks with my first pregnancy. I took Tylenol every 4 hours, had a cool shower and put cool compresses on my the back of my neck and forehead...i treated myself like I was dying and freaked out, but it lasted for a night. The midwife said it was fine and the Tylenol I took was fine too. Everything is so important in the first trimester it makes you panicky I feel. This time I had the stomach flu at 7 weeks...fun times. I did go see a doctor that time but she said the baby would be fine.
@MommySLP: I have had some occasionally after 6 weeks. And I bet you'll feel more becasue you have already had 2 babies.
pear / 1563 posts
@littlejoy: @Cole: @MommySLP: it feels interminable. I am having some better parts of days now but it still feel so long until I'll feel mostly well. One extra thing that has been giving me some relief is acupuncture- not sure if anyone has been but I leave my appt feeling actually hungry and usually feel pretty good for about 24 hrs after.
I know this will be our last baby. In my darker moments I worry that if something did go wrong this time, I'm not sure I could muster the energy to try again, although we really want this second child.
I do have some crampy days still. 7+2 at the moment. I definitely notice it more this pregnancy than last, although I think a lot of it is digestion related for me this time.
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@Petitduck: Thanks for the encouragement. I woke up this morning without a fever!! So happy! Still feel like crap, but it's nothing new.
@MommySLP: I was still cramping at 8 weeks last time (not so much this time) ... I remember some weird cramps at 9 weeks last time that really worried me. Midwives said it was likely round ligament pains already. Cramping is weird - it's a reminder of the baby (which is great), but it freaks me out!
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@Revel: I've had those same exact thoughts - I do NOT want to do this again. Hopefully everything works out this time.

I'm miserable. I never want to do this again. I know y'all can relate.
I'm facing a week of solo parenting, which started today. I'm really down thinking about how I'm going to manage. I almost called my MIL for help. She would have come too. She lives 1000 miles away on a mountain and is snowed in though.
I just feel like a terrible parent because I'm not cooking and we aren't going out as much.

@Mrs. Pickle: hang in there, mama! I am so miserable too. It's overwhelming to think about, so just trying to take it an hour at a time at this point! Hope your week goes smoothly!

@Mrs. Pickle: ugh, I'm also in the horrible mom camp. DD has been watching way too much TV while I lay curled in the fetal position on the couch. DH has a work trip soon, and I'm dreading it.
I'm also worried about this pregnancy not working out and being pissed that I was this sick for nothing. But being sick is a sign things are going well, so I guess that's good. I have to wait until Friday for my first appointment. Seems like forever.
grapefruit / 4649 posts
@Mrs. Pickle: oh man, a week of solo sounds awful- if for no other reason than I'd have to take the trash out myself! Smells are killing me! Do you have any friends who could take lo for a little bit? Or a sitter? My goal these days is one activity a day with lo and a round a books on the couch. It's a new parenting low for me but it helps both of us. Water colors are a big guy right now because the mess is minimal but it feels like a special activity. Mostly though I'm thankful for a new season of Daniel Tiger on Amazon.
pear / 1788 posts
@Cole: I'm glad that our normal activities resume this week so DD has something more stimulating than me reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar for the billionth time. But surviving swimming and parent-tot preschool is going to be a new challenge

@Mrs. Pickle: @Mrs. Microscope: I can totally relate. My husband took a week work trip right after I got pregnant and just left again today for a couple days and I feel so bad about how much tv I am using to deal!

Ladies on Unisom - anyone taking a full 25mg tab at night? Basically could not function yesterday at all and so I tried a full tab last night. Difference is really noticeable today. I do feel slightly drugged (!) but it's better than hanging over the toilet bowl or dramatically writhing on the couch clutching tummy when I'm supposed to be at work. (My son has started imitating me gagging - it's hilarious and sad!)
pear / 1648 posts
@coddergirl: That's exactly what I was taking, plus I was taking 100-150mg of B6 during the day. Taking less than that didn't seem to touch it and I found a lot of information that the 25mg unisom and up to 200mg B6 was perfectly safe and recommended for morning sickness.
I'll be 10 weeks on Thursday and I'm on my 2nd day of weaning off. I haven't decided whether I still need it or not.
Hope it helps you!
pear / 1648 posts
@coddergirl: And also I didn't really notice a sleepy effect from the unisom after the first day, and unfortunately it did nothing for my sleep either

Anyone else having a bit of trouble remembering they haven't announced yet? I keep thinking of random things I kind of want to post on FB, then realizing they would raise a lot of questions that I'm not ready to answer.
pear / 1648 posts
@Torchwood: I haven't had the issue with social media since I don't post much, but I am at that point where I'm unsure whether I want to tell individual people when it seems somewhat relevant to the moment. So far I've been avoiding saying anything to anybody local but I did consider telling my boss because I've had to telework a few extra days lately. It wouldn't be a big surprise to her, though, since I had to tell her about my miscarriage in October.
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@Torchwood: We finally announced on FB yesterday (10 weeks). I've had to delete 3 comments from family who have slipped up. We decided to go ahead and share, which we were okay with. It was fun to announce, and now I can tell everyone how I've had chips for breakfast like every day.
apricot / 491 posts
We won't say anything until Valentine's Day. I thinking I may tell work before we go on vacation before that, just so I can start getting a plan together while I'm out this summer/fall. I know DH won't want me to say anything til we get back though if we aren't telling family til then. But I definitely want to go to the doctor a few times to make sure everything is fine. If I'm getting too big or something, I may just say forget it and announce to our families.

are any of you reaching out to an HR rep to find out more about your company policy around maternity leave, any benefits etc? If so when do you plan on reaching out? Before telling your boss? Before end of first trimester? I'm trying to figure out when to approach them and if I should do it now or wait?
pear / 1648 posts
@phillydoglover: Unfortunately I know from past experience that my company doesn't offer any maternity leave benefits, but I am covered under FMLA.
I was unsure when to tell HR last time to make sure everything was in order and I finally emailed them around 18-20 weeks (a few weeks after I'd told my boss). As it turns out, it didn't really make a difference when I notified them, but I will probably notify them around 20 weeks again.
My boss/team were the ones who figured out coverage for my tasks during my leave, so HR didn't have anything to do with that in my situation.
apricot / 491 posts
@phillydoglover: I was gonna wait a little longer. With my first I had just started here and wasn't covered under FMLA, so I had gone with the company's maternity leave. I need to find out what my options are for this time around, but can wait until after I talk to my boss and everything to talk to HR. I'm just excited bc I saw I could probably get a new pump through my insurance instead of using what I have!

Hi! I can't believe I'm actually going to try and participate. I was an expert level lurker when I was pregnant with my daughter. I see lots of second babies on this board so I'm happy to find those in the same boat (since I have no clue how I can handle two small people at once).

First child?
Nope, DD will be 3 the end of March.
Any symptoms?
Just indigestion, mild fatigue. I never got terribly sick with DD but waiting to see what this pregnancy has in store for me.
Who have you told?
Only DH.
Current thoughts/feelings/fears?
I had a confirm pregnancy appt with my midwife, but won't get to try to hear the hb until 10 weeks. I really wanted a picture of the jelly bean, but won't have an u/s until the anatomy scan.
I'm hoping for a VBAC since I had an emergency section under GA with DD. August seems so far away but I'm already worried about it.

First child? YES!
Any symptoms? Super tired - constantly. I also have a heavy/full feeling in my stomach most of the time, which is kinda hard to identify.
Who have you told? our parents and grandparents, a couple close friends, and our Bible studies
Current thoughts/feelings/fears? I read all about how I should be starting to gain weight, but I'm losing it. I started at about 135 and this morning I weighed in at 131. I'm trying to eat healthier, but I didn't think it would make that big of an impact on my weight!

@pmerr: I talked to my insurance (Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield) and they said that basically the doctor will write you a prescription for a pump and you take it to a medical supply store where you can select one. The only trick is that it has to be within 30 days of your due date.

Thanks for listening to me vent yesterday! Today has been better. DD got into a Mother's Day Out program. She starts Thursday. I'll be working while she's there, but the break from childcare will be nice.
I'm waiting a few more weeks to tell my boss. Late summer is pretty busy for us, so the timing is not great. I don't get any paid leave and will probably return to work in November. I'll take the baby with me. I took DD with me for several months.

@Lmpeavley: welcome! For my first pregnancy I lost 5 pounds in the first trimester. I gained it back plus plenty more by the end. I wouldn't worry! The baby is getting what it needs.

I've been reading this thread for a while and finally decided to join
Location: California
EDD: August 18
First child? 2nd - We have a 20 month old son
Any symptoms? This is why I wanted to join because I need to vent! I'm always nauseous. Nothing sounds good and when I force myself to eat it doesn't even help the nausea. With my son I was able to eat and feel better for an hour or two but this time it's like nothing works and even drinking water makes me feel sick!
Who have you told? My family and a couple close friends
Current thoughts/feelings/fears? I'm antsy for my first appointment on Friday. Of course all the nerves that come with being in the first trimester are also added to the fear of how we will ever manage to "do it all" with two kids.

@pmerr: @peachykeen thanks for your responses! I think I found something about a maternity program that when you enroll during your first trimester they cover your hospital delivery day copay so I might aim to talk to an HR rep in a couple weeks so I can get the benefits of enrolling in that program. also one of my other friends says her job starts giving you a bunch of free stuff including the pump and that the benefits for her start as soon as you want. i just find it weird to tell anyone because it hasn't fully hit me yet!

No work issues here as a SAHM, but DH won't be letting his company know for a bit. Though he'll definitely need to talk to HR. His company does a paid 4 week leave every 4 years, and his first one will be later this year, which is exciting timing. (With LO he could barely take any time off because he literally was being promoted the week she was born and the person he was taking over for was moving so he had a very limited window to learn what he had to know.) But we're not sure if it'll be available in August, and if this one is early too it'll definitely be too soon. His company is absolutely the type to be accommodating, but he'll need to work it out ahead of time.
Our first (and possibly only, really, if this is another girl) baby purchase arrived today! We went ahead and got another car seat now because LO can use it (in our second vehicle) until the baby gets here. It makes it feel a little more real!
Also, finally 8 weeks! Since my due date got pushed back I felt like I was 7 week for forever!
