August 2017 moms!

I feel you all on the "what have we done," definitely exacerbated by feeling so poorly right now.

Had a good scan today! Measuring 6w6d, right on target with my chart and August 25 due date. They finally believe I ovulated late, haha. Heartbeat was 122. Still didn't look like much but def a sigh of relief. Also the subchorionic hematoma resolved itself so that is also good news. Hope to hear about everyone else's appointments!

Hi Everyone! Just checking in, Ive been MIA since I first posted here. I still haven't had my first appointment yet. It is so different than last pregnancy after IVF where I had multiple ultrasounds and labs at this point already. My first appointment is next wed when I am 9 weeks. Hoping everything is looking good.

@peachykeen: I keep trying to do that but so far I'm failing! I think I may have more like 4 weeks until I get results, I'm not having the blood draw until 10.5 weeks and last time it took a full two weeks. Hopefully they are faster this time!

We are pretty sure at this point that we are going to go with a home birth but I'll keep seeing my OB at least until the anatomy scan. I have appointments coming up on the 17th and 18th, hopefully we'll get to hear the heartbeat on Doppler at at least one of them!

@Revel: I'm so glad it went well!

I can't believe we don't have any twin pregnancies in this group yet. I feel like the odds are at least one person will!

Pretty sure I'm out. Doubling time is >100 hours and have started cramping and spotting pretty heavily. Guess my lack of nausea and other symptoms wasn't very lucky afterall.

@Mrs.Pinecone316: I understand that! By this point in my last pregnancy I had betas twice, one ultrasound, and was still on medications.

@Cole: as long as it's not me! I would flip out in a bad way.

    @azjax: I'm so sorry.

My appointment went ok. We saw a baby and the heartbeat. It measured 7 weeks though so I must have ovulated late. It's hard to really know since I only had one cycle. My due date is 8/25 now. I know I should be happy, but I'm still uneasy. I got my blood drawn for a Zika test. I go back in 3 weeks on 1/27 for the Panorama blood draw.

@Mrs. Pickle: With my daughter I was pretty sure of when I ovulated and measured 5-6 days behind that. I worried about it a lot, but she caught up by 12 weeks and was totally fine. Between ovulating a little later plus the margin or error in measurements I don't think you should worry (but I know that's easier said than done!)

@azjax: I'm so sorry. As has been said, a lot of us have been through this, so if you need to talk please don't hesitate to reach out.

@Mrs. Pickle: I'm sorry your appointment wasn't as definitively positive as you'd hoped. That uncertainty can be so stressful. But yay for a baby with a heartbeat! Between not being positive of your O date (and having just gotten your cycle back can definitely make it wonky) and possible late implantation you surely have nothing to worry about.

I've dreamed twice now that I started bleeding. It's disheartening, even though it's a relief to realize it was just a dream. I am so ready to be far enough along to use a Doppler, or better yet, just feel constant movement.

I have been so sick the last 2 days. The unisom + B6 was working perfectly for me & now all of a sudden it's useless?? I'm nauseous all day & have thrown up 2-3 times/day. Ugh. I'm 8+2 so really thought I was on the upswing of this. Anyone have the unisom +B6 stop working after it worked for awhile? I have a call into my dr.

@Cole: Agree! I totally thought there would be at least 1 twin pregnancy. I honestly thought it was going to be me. Twins run heavily in my family, and this is my 2nd LO (well 3rd pregnancy, loss included) so they say your odds go up the more kids you have!

@MommySLP: sorry to hear this. The unisom b6 wasn't working super well for me. My dr switched me to diclegis and we've had to up my dose a bit but seem to have it under control. It was expensive but has been worth it to me. Maybe ask your practice about it? I think the time release unisom element is the part I really needed.

@MommySLP: sorry you're still sick, the same has happened to me, we have upped the dosage twice and he just sent over zofran to use as needed. Last pregnancy I wound up needing to go off it for about a week at time to let my body reset and then it worked again.

@RacheBon: @Torchwood: thank you both for the reassurance! I'm just being all doom and gloom today. I'm so ready to be done with the first trimester and to feel better.

Is anyone having Zika screening? I was in Key West and the Bahamas in late November. My OB had me do a blood draw to check for Zika and I will have additional ultrasounds until the third trimester. There is a heavy mosquito population where I live and she told me to put on mosquito repellent every time I go outside.

  25. pmerr

    apricot / 491 posts

@Mrs. Pickle: No, but I also live in NY and have not been anywhere near a Zika location.

    pear / 1788 posts

@Mrs. Pickle: congrats on a good scan! Baby looks great, try to worry less. You are growing a healthy, happy baby!

As for the Zika, nothing for me, but my OB already told me not to travel to Florida until after the baby was born. Not a problem, but they were concerned as people didn't know it had the virus. Better safe than sorry, and I'm sure you'll love the extra peeks at baby along the way!

  27. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@Mrs. Pickle: My midwife hasn't mentioned it. I was on a cruise in October but we literally didn't see a single mosquito. I'll need to be careful come summer (there have been cases in TN), but honestly mosquitos just don't like me. I almost never get bitten. (Though I'm not allergic so it's harder for me to judge how many bite me.)

ETA- I am going to have to skip my husband's company trip (to the Bahamas) this year, which sucks because it's the 20 year anniversary. They did a private concert on the beach with fireworks for the 15th, so I'm sure I'll be missing some fun stuff. But with my risk of preterm labor I couldn't go anyway. L was born less than 18 hours after we got home from last year's trip!

We are in Michigan so no Zika concerns here. Our only travel plans are for Hawaii which was picked by my in-laws specifically for no Zika (I reeeally can't complain!)

@azjax: So sorry to hear that.

@Mrs. Pickle: Agree with pp, especially because you only had that one cycle and there is supposed to be a degree of error +/- either 4 or 5 days I have read so your next scan should have an accurate measurement. I know when I went in at 6 weeks they just said as long as they can see the heartbeat and everything looks good then there is no cause for concern and at that point everything is as it should be and it's a healthy pregnancy.

I searched for positive pregnancy mantras when I got pregnant because my anxiety got bad fast even though I have done this before. It definitely surprised me because I thought I would be cool and breezy...or cooler and breezier. Anyway, my current ones that I repeat to myself are: I'm pregnant. I'm healthy. The baby is healthy. My body will keep the baby safe.

I'm on my way to the ER. My vomiting has gotten progressively worse & I have a lot of pain in my ribs & back. My doctor said I'm likely sore from all the throwing up and didnt sound concerned but it's gotten worse since then. Of course I'm completely freaked out---I've never even been to an ER before, but I just know I needed to go in. Praying it's not gallbladder, ectopic, etc. ugh. I'll keep you updated.

@Cole: We are hoping to have another homebirth. Last time I stuck with my OB until the anatomy scan too. This time, we are with the midwives from the beginning.

@azjax: I'm so sorry. We are all here for you if you want to talk with a smaller group. Sending hugs.

@MommySLP: Thinking of you!! Keep us updated.

@MommySLP: I am sending lots of positive thoughts your way. I hope everything is OK and that they can get you feeling better. I'm attaching a link to helpher.org to protocol for helping women sick with hyperemesis gravidarum. Even if you're not actually diagnosed they should still at least make sure you're getting thiamine in your IV, assuming they give you one. Don't hesitate to tell them you want to stay until you can show you can keep down oral medication if you're worried about that.

  34. Mrs. Microscope

    pear / 1788 posts

@pmerr: just talk to your doctor about it. And make sure you and DH wear bug repellent! February is low mosquito time anyway.

@Petitduck: I think my anxiety is a little worse this time because I have more of an idea what I'd really be losing if something goes wrong. I look at my daughter and it seems more real that we'd be losing a baby, not just a hypothetical. I'm actually really glad our 33 week loss was before we successfully had a baby, not after, because it just didn't have the same impact I think it would now. (We never held her, for complicated reasons.)

  36. Petitduck

    kiwi / 624 posts

@Torchwood: that makes a lot of sense. I can't imagine going through that. Glad you had your rainbow baby and now this little one growing. When is your next scan?

I'm going the 16th and am counting down the days.

I'm so very glad that I have my daughter no matter what. I give her an extra tight squeeze some days when I think about all the what ifs.

  37. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@Petitduck: I don't have another one scheduled. The midwives don't normally do many, so even with LO I didn't have a second until the anatomy scan, as best as I can recall. Since we do nipt they don't do the nt scan. But really, I'm just looking forward to being able to use a Doppler. I've had too many bad ultrasounds, so they're overall more stress than they're worth. My anxiety is sky high for days leading up to them. Right now I just want to make it past 9.5 weeks, when my latest miscarriage was. Then I'll stress about the anatomy scan.

I keep thinking I'm feeling pretty good about things, and then I realize I'm not letting myself look forward to feeling movement or anything that's still farther out. So apparently I'm less confident than I want to think I am.

On a more positive note, DH has declared he's convinced it's another girl. I would be totally okay with that. 😄

  38. Mrs. Blush

    cherry / 163 posts

@mommyslp: I'm sure they'll be able to do something for you in the ER. I've been taking a ginger supplement 4x a day and it's really helped, but I have a feeling you need something stronger

  39. Petitduck

    kiwi / 624 posts

@Torchwood: ah. The Doppler does make such a huge difference I feel before movement. Do you have one? I rented one for a month last time and bought one this time. My midwife couldn't find the heartbeat, but tried for 1 minute basically, but I found it at home and felt good.

I thought the scan and blood test went together. They do here anyway. So I have that scheduled and if I chose not to do the testing the midwife said she would have sent me for another ultrasound for dating because 6 weeks was too early to go for it and my cycles were a bit weird with breastfeeding. My due date and lmp don't match up, but they didn't last time either and I ovulate late.

    One day at a time.

@littlejoy: @Cole: @Mrs. Blush: thanks for the good thoughts. ER said it was good I came in---I got fluids & prescription meds, so hopefully things will start getting better. Everything looked normal & pain/soreness is from throwing up so much.
