Evelyns birth story, a quick and unexpected vaginal delivery.
I went to my last ob appt at exactly 38 weeks feeling exactly like I had been feeling, end of pregnancy uncomfortable but nothing out of the ordinary. Turns out my blood pressure was high 152/89, but no protein or other signs of preeclampsia. My doctor checked me and I was 4cm dilated and 80% effaced. I was told to head to labor and delivery, this was around 2:30pm. I wasn't feeling any contractions but was told I would be having a baby either that day or the next. At 4:30 They broke my water and suddenly I was experiencing and really feeling contractions. I was not a happy camper and so I requested an epidural and received one shortly there after, it worked amazingly but oddly my left side was way more numb then my right but all my pain was gone. At 6::30 I was checked and found to be at 10cm. They had me labor down for a while until I felt pressure to push since my doctor was tied up in a procedure. I started feeling pressure around 8 and was encouraged to start pushing. For the next hour and a half I pushed, my husband and nurse holding my legs when I was on my back and sides. I was able to move my legs some but I felt no pain just pressure. Around 9:15 they called the doctor in and at 9:33 she was out. The cord had been loosely wrapped around her neck they unwrapped it and delayed cutting for a min and then my husband got to cut her cord. While I did skin to skin my doctor stitched up my second degree tear, the epidural was still keeping me numb so I was doing ok. All in all labor was 5hrs from my water being broken to delivery. She was 7lbs1oz and absolutely perfect. We are now learning to breastfeed.

@snarkybiochemist: what a wild story! Thank you for sharing. I didnt get a chance to write mine up today. Hopefully tomorrow. Hows breastfeeding going? I know its so tough at the beginning!

@mrsbubbletea: breastfeeding is going ok, better when she decides that she wants to eat when she doesn't want to then it's a struggle. We had a rough night last night.
@periwinklebee: Thank you, not too much longer for you

I really need to write my story! It’s already been over 2 weeks.

Hi all, I just joined because I am a first time mom, 2 weeks postpartum and I could use some moral support from fellow Mommas going through the same things as me! My daughter was born November 4th and while everything has gotten better than those first awful days home, last night was super rough

@AJeanne86: sorry I just saw this! We aren’t very active at chatting but that should change! Sorry to hear you were having a rough time a few weeks ago, how’s it going now? Any better?

How is everybody's doing?
My little girl is 7 weeks old now. She started smiling at us about a week ago and it is heaven. She nurses pretty well and is sleeping ok overnight. She is a dream in the morning, but FUSSY most evenings. 2-3 days a week she fusses in the evening and is very difficult to get to fall asleep for the night. It's wearing on me since my husband is not home till 9:30-10:00 a few days a week and we have a 3 year old to care for too.
I'm worried about a couple family Christmas parties this weekend, since they are in the evening. I don't want her to fuss the entire time. Any others in this boat? What are your plans? Both parties we will be staying overnight, so leaving early isn't really an option.

@SugarMaple: hi! We are doing good, my girl is 7 weeks old too and plumping up into the most amazing butterball. She hasn’t started smiling yet but she seems so close! When she looks at you it’s almost like she’s smiling with her eyes. So alert and present with wide dark eyes. She’s definitely more alert in general, instead of just sleeping between every feed, but she does still sleep way more than I remember with my son. She doesn’t always have s fussy period in the evening yet, but has a handful of times and it’s super hard managing her with my 3yo even when my husband is home! My husband worked a similar schedule when my son was s newborn and it was so tough with just the one. I think you just have the whole day behind you, hormones and tiredness and the night ahead just make it so hard to deal.
I think I would just find a place at the parties to hideout and nurse/bounce/rock and tag team with your husband. Hopefully she’ll surprise you and just snooze away from the hustle and bustle of the party.
My girl is still eating every 2-3h over night with a few blessed 4 hour stretches a few times a week . Hoping she gets more reliable stretches soon! Her 2 month appt is next week! Can’t wait to see how big she is.
And in Ofher news I seem to have started my period today . I knew this might happen since it was the same with my son. But, with him he was sleeping through the night (briefly) at 6 weeks when it happened!! So unfair.

@SugarMaple: We are doing pretty good at almost 6 wks, aside from the cold we both got from my husband. So right now our life involves the nose frida, saline drops, and hot steamy showers to help the congestion. Otherwise we have found a good rhythm with breastfeeding, pumping and supplementing and she is gaining an oz or so a day!. Some nights we have fussy nights where she wants to eat every hour or so and other nights she is is calm and happy and even cat naps. On fussy nights eventually I just give in and camp out on the couch for 3-4 hrs if I really have to get stuff done I give her a bottle and then try and pump later to make up for it.
I am loving Christmas time with a baby, even if she understands nothing and this is all for mom. Yesterday she met Santa and painted her Christmas ornament my grandfather makes.

@mrsbubbletea: I suspect my period might have started at 5.5 weeks as well and this makes me sad, but with PCOS it could be quite a while before I get another one unless pregnancy has magically fixed my reproductive system.

Things are going overall well here! She is 7 weeks tomorrow, occasionally smiles but not consistent yet. She coos a lot though! Her reflux has gotten really bad and it was effecting her weight gain so we are trialling Zantac with some success. We have a weight check tomorrow. If we haven’t seen a significant improvement I am going to try to get her tongue tie clipped before Christmas.
Sleep wise we are pretty lucky! She sleeps 10 hours with just 1 wake up every night. It’s pretty amazing.
