My morning sickness has got a little worse. I feel pretty nauseous on and off all day long. Ugh. Yesterday I felt like crap and I kept trying to hold back throwing up. I was gagging a lot. Finally just gave up and puked and I felt soooooo much better the rest of the day.
Anyone else having trouble brushing their teeth? I had this problem when I was pregnant with DS. It's like my gag reflex becomes more sensitive. I can barely brush my back teeth.

@ottilie: I am so sorry for your loss.
@mrs. 64 and @babybean404: I too was hoping for a late spring baby...I never imagined I would have an August baby!! I am sad to miss the beginning of the school year but I feel lucky because I actually co-teach in an inclusion classroom (one sped teacher-me, and one gen ed teacher) so I know things won't be too crazy when I get back!! My husband is hoping I can take off through the New Year next year but I have no idea if I can or not...have to check the contract haha. I'm not even sure if my leave would start the day I give birth or the day school starts....so many questions. I haven't told anyone at work other than my co-teacher and will probably wait a few more weeks till I go to HR with all my questions.

I think someone mentioned about showing already with #2. Holy cow, I already have a bump and I'm only 8 weeks. It's ridiculous! I mean i had a little pouch to begin with but now it just sticks out so much. I look like I did when I was around 20 weeks pregnant. I've already had to pull out my bigger sized jeans that I bought postpartum. we'll have to start a gold bump thread soon!

Thanks so much for all the thoughts and support. I am lucky to have a supportive husband, too, and a good friend who sat with me at the hospital while I had a scan/blood test. Good luck to everyone here with your pregnancies!

Had our first ultrasound yesterday (yay for pictures of the little bean!) and everything looked great! Measuring a day ahead, but my doctor still wants to leave my EDD at August 20th.
12 week scan scheduled for February 3rd!

@mrskc: yes! I've busted out my bella band already and washed some maternity pants. no "bump" but I think my hips have def widen already.

@BakerBee: yay! so great you had a good appointment!
I was miserable until yesterday - i felt totally normal and didn't get nauseous, i was able to eat 3 full meals (haven't done that in about a week and a half!) and just felt great! I feel great this morning too, no nausea to speak of. Then of course, there is the, yep - symptoms lost, not a good sign. So now i'm super nervous and want the nausea to return. This HAD to happen the day before my first appointment. I am a huge ball of nerves and I just feel really anxious and terrified of what tomorrow will bring. To be honest, i don't have a good feeling, and i'm not sure if i'm feeling like this to protect myself, but i had the same feeling last time before my first appointment as well.
pomelo / 5228 posts
@chibee: Sorry you're nervous My nausea hasn't been that severe, but I've definitely had random days where I feel perfectly fine. It always comes back though. I really hope it does for you too! I think if something were to go wrong, it wouldn't be such a sudden change.

@chibee: it is VERY common for symptoms to come and go
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@chibee: Thank you! It was absolutely crazy watching the little bean and hearing the heart beat. As for your vanishing symptoms -- deep breathes! Symptoms definitely come and go - though I know its so easy to panic.
@locavore_mama @mrskc: I asked my doctor yesterday if my weight gain (don't judge, but 10 lbs since my bfp, but I was on the low side of BMI to begin with) could be attributed to going off some meds I was on... she said that hormones are a funny thing and to stop stressing - that it usually evens out and to just enjoy the next 8+ months. I guess this is the only time we get to be proud of our growing bellies and not de-tag a picture on facebook because we "look fat."

@Chibee: I definitely can relate! With my first pregnancy I was extremely sick until mid- second trimester. On occasion I woud have a couple of good hours (or part of a day) and it would truly freak me out. I'm having the same thing happen this time around, except I'm trying to enjoy the very seldom non-sick moments. I made a promise to my husband to try this, and he just gives me a look when I stress that I'm suddenly not sick. I wish you all the best at your appointment tomorrow!!!
pomegranate / 3895 posts
Oh yea! I forgot to ask... yesterday at my appointment the doctor asked if we wanted to get a NT scan. We literally had no idea -- on one hand, we would not terminate the pregnancy regardless (and I am young with no family history risks), but on the other, that would mean not seeing the baby again until 20 weeks AND I wonder if knowledge is power in this scenario. Anyone have any thoughts?
ETA a quick rant: My doctor thinks I have HG (hyperemesis gravidarum) based on the early set-in and the severity... so far the only thing that keeps me from throwing up incessantly is Zofran (ugh!), and that doesn't even address the constant nausea. I just found out yesterday that my insurance doesn't cover but 10 days of pills every 30 days. Seriously? That is ridiculous. Obviously a man or someone who has not gone through gestating a child made that rule. I'm currently on hold (going on 30 minutes and the minute estimate keeps on increasing??) to appeal per my doctor's recommendation. Okay, rant over.

Is there anything I can do for the nausea? I feel bad complaining about it, but it's starting to affect my ability to work and function. I've been trying to eat very small meals and gingerale seems to help a bit, but overall I still feel nauseated most of the time.
At the same time, like @chibee: said, I'm kind of thankful for the nausea because it's a constant reminder that I really am pregnant!
Speaking of that, I had my first ultrasound yesterday and now apparently they are not doing another one until 20 weeks! It just seems crazy to me lol! My doctor told me that I only will have another ultrasound done if I get spotting or something.
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@pui: Same with my doctor - said I don't see baby again until 20 weeks unless I do the NT scan.
Have you tried preggie drops?
bananas / 9899 posts
@BakerBee: Our doctors have asked us if we wanted to do a genetic scan (it's a blood test and it costs $900) and we declined... like you, we wouldn't terminate anyway and we also don't have any real risk factors. Not seeing baby again until 20 weeks does suck though!!
bananas / 9899 posts
@BakerBee: Where are you located? I'm in Ontario, Canada.
I haven't heard of preggie drops. Are these something I can buy at my pharmacy?
pomelo / 5228 posts
@pui: Have you tried wearing sea bands? I've been wearing them almost all day for at least a week or so. They do seem to help. Peppermint tea, and preggie pops (from amazon, or maternity stores) help too.
bananas / 9899 posts
@Mrs.Someone: Unfortunately, the smell of peppermint makes me feel really sick lol!
What is a sea band?
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@pui: I'm in Alabama.
We bought them online (Amazon). Try searching Hello Bee for the info about B6 + Unisom combo - some people say it really works and it's something you can get at the pharmacy. I've heard it makes you sleepy though.

@pui: Acupressure wristbands for nausea. I have them for motion sickness, but they totally help for pregnancy too. And apparently they now make a pink "mama" version, hah. http://smile.amazon.com/Sea-Band-Adult-Wristband-Color-1-Pair/dp/B001F731N0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389122956&sr=8-1&keywords=sea+bands

Hmm I hope I can get some of these things in Canada! I guess I'll go check Amazon.ca!
pomelo / 5228 posts
@pui: I'm sure you can. If Amazon.ca doesn't have them, then maybe a travel store or Target (you do have those, right??)
olive / 51 posts
I recommend the ginger Altoids! I read about them on a blog and couldn't find them in any stores, so I finally bought a box of 12 tins from Amazon. They help with the nausea and also if you smell something that makes you feel sick. I commute to work and there are often weird smells on the train and these curiously strong mints help a ton!
@bakerbee - My midwife asked us about the NT scan as well. I've done some research and it's definitely a personal decision, but a lot of what they are looking for is also check during the 18/20 week anatomy ultrasound. Things like the measurment of fluid behind the neck, the nasal bone, pinky formations, etc. We opted not to go with the extra set of tests, but I can see how not seeing the baby until 20 weeks would be a big incentive!

@T.H.O.U.: hope your appt went well!!
@mrskc: i'm wearing my "fat" pants these days... last time i switched to maternity pants by 10 weeks. i wouldn't be surprised if i did that this time too! and also, i had my first almost gag experience while brushing my teeth today!!
@BakerBee: If insurance covers the nt scan i would just do it for a peek of the baby would it be helpful to you to know if there may be something wrong? that would be another reason to get it, just to be prepared.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@pui: jumping in to say that frozen drinks, particularly frozen lemonade, really helped me. Frozen coke, was also really good-you can make it into ice cubes. I also lived on graham crackers. Ultimately, though, I had to get Zofran to function.

I am so sorry to hear of so many other people feeling as miserable as I do- but it is comforting! I feel like I have a terminal illness and that life will be like this forever. Feeling sick for 3+ weeks is starting to get old!
Questions!
Anyone else have any cravings? Mine apparently is turkey/chicken and gravy (coming from a prepregnancy vegetarian)
First Trimester Screening? Anyone else thinking about getting this genetic screening done in the first trimester?
Hope everyone feels better very soon!

@chibee: How did your appointment go? I wouldn't worry about symptom free days- take it as a gift from above! I had one of these two weeks ago- they are amazing! Thinking of you!
nectarine / 2936 posts
@BakerBee: Oh no! My mom had HG and it is no joke. Hopefully with an official diagnosis your insurance will cover more zofran. Hope you feel better!
So far my nausea has been better than I anticipated (knock on wood). I'm definitely nauseated off and on all day, but it has been manageable for the most part and I haven't thrown up yet. The only thing that is keeping things in check is eating pretty much constantly. If I go 2 hours without food it will come on fast and furious. I'm worried that I'm going to gain 20 lbs in the first tri but my mom told me that feeling better and functioning is my main priority right now.
