@Mrs.Someone: I'm going shopping this weekend! Woot! We're also having a small, low key superbowl party.

I can't wait to stop Crinone! I have to wait until February 8th.

@pui: I hope you have better luck shopping than I did! I first tried Old Navy and Target, but both had bad selections. Then yesterday I went to a mall, and Macys was the only store to have any maternity stuff at all! Nobody but Old Navy seems to have the demi panel anymore. I ended up just ordering online, since I need the short length and Old Navy only had the regulars in stock. And of course today Old Navy has a bigger sale than yesterday

Hi Everyone! Glad to see everyone is doing well and having good appointments. I've caught up on everything but can't remember it all so I apologize for that! I do remember that @mrst927 said her husband's CF test came back negative- that must have been such a great relief!! And it was @chibee's bday, happy belated!

After not hearing from my docs about a NT scan I called them and asked and they were like "yea, schedule it" grrr...so we had it done and everything looked great! I told my boss after the appointment and my teaching team. Most of our local friends know but I still need to tell the rest of my work and FB land. I am planning on doing a little announcement at work on Friday but one of my coworkers has had two losses (one most recently in October) and I don't want to be insensitive. Thoughts??

I do admit I was gone for a while because I fell down the rabbit hole and read one of those snarks sites and it freaked me out to be putting personal info on the Internet...but I think I'm over it now!!

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday! Oh, anyone make any major nursery purchases yet?

@Mrs.Someone: @pui: 2 more weeks of progesterone here! Can't wait!

I ordered some maternity pants from Gap that looked terrible so I'm returning them. I just ordered some from Loft last night so we'll see how they fit. I didn't find anything at Target either. I just need a few decent pairs of pants/jeans. I'm sure tops and dresses will not be as big of a deal.

@Apples4Teacher: Glad your NT scan went great!

@Apples4Teacher: Glad to hear all went well! As for your coworker, I'd suggest pulling her aside and gently telling her before you tell everyone else. After a loss, its hard to hear pregnancy news as part of a big happy announcement, so I'm sure she will appreciate being told one on one.

Hi guys, sorry I dropped off this week.

I ended up with a sinus infection and a migraine (yuck). I ended up taking Musinex because I had to. Of course today I'm spotting some which has me worried.

I did find a pair of gap maternity jeans at a consignment store for $7.

So I'm 11 weeks and 1 day and my boobs are quite sore to the touch and my nipples are sooo itchy lol! I finally got some new bras (I've gone from an A cup to a C) so I am feeling much more comfortable!

@mrs. 64: I hope you find some good stuff! I went to Old Navy but I didn't find anything I liked and they didn't have much selection. I bought some stuff from Thymes maternity yesterday. I feel so much better! I was wearing pants that were too big for the last week. It's nice to have clothes that actually look good again lol!

@T.H.O.U.: Aw sorry you've been sick I hope everything is good!

hi all! i've actually had the flu the last couple of days - while visiting my sister in Dallas. Great vacation right? for 2 days i was laid up in bed and i was afraid i wouldn't make the flight home but somehow i made it home. Still feeling pretty miserable so i might take another day to rest but omg this is no joke. not being able to take my usual meds and feeling this awful, i have to admit, there was crying. I finally feel well enough to actually get on my computer and such, but seriously guys, take care of yourself, this was honestly awful and scary.

@mrs. 64: @pui: I've had good luck ordering tops from old navy online. I have to go a size down on everything than I normally would though. I also ordered some boyfriend fit jeans from Old Navy, and somehow they worked lol

    Target stuff for me poorly.

    How's everyone feeling?

I hit 12 weeks on Sat which is exciting. Checked on baby's HB w/ my doppler and was able to find it right away. it's much louder now. My morning sickness is letting up. I'm not nauseous and miserable all day but I'm still having bouts of it and throwing up here and there. I'm hoping it's completely gone soon.

@chibee: sorry you were so sick! Hope you're feeling better!

@mrskc: Glad you're starting to feel better. I'm 14 weeks and I'd say I've been pretty much pregnancy symptom free for the last 2-3 weeks. It's been so great having energy again and eating like a normal person without nausea. I know I'm the earliest of the Aug due dates so I hope everyone starts hitting this point soon!!

@runnerd: @pui: @T.H.O.U.: @mrskc: it was terrible! please remember lots of orange juice! I actually stayed home from work today again - it is snowing really hard and i just couldn't justify my commute to the city today.

I'm feeling good, as good as i can feel with this flu, i think my morning sickness has subsided, and as soon as the flu is gone i'm sure my appetite will come back. I'm hitting 12 weeks this thursday and i'm super excited! Oh also, my OB canceled my appt tonight bc of the weather, so i have my 12 week & NT scan on Wednesday.

Does anyone shop on asos.com? they have a great maternity section!

@T.H.O.U.: @chibee: hope you two feel better soon!

@chibee: i got a dress from asos maternity! i still love it and will wear it this time around too.

@mrskc: glad your morning sickness is dying down! we're so close to the golden trimester!

@Apples4Teacher: no nursery purchases yet. we'll probably reuse our glider, but have to get a new crib, dresser, toy storage. i haven't looked on pinterest at all this time, but i can't wait to decorate! it'll be probably the only baby purchases we make this time around. unless we have a boy.. then i must buy more baby clothes

is anyone else sucking at following all the pregnancy "rules"? i started drinking caffeine again. i think i'm staying under the 200mg rule, but i still feel bad about it every time. and i think i've eaten everything on the do not eat list except for raw meat and raw fish. poor 2nd child!

@kodybear: I ate soft serve ice cream once... I felt kind of guilty but I reeeeeaaallly wanted it lol!

Quick question actually about that, if soft serve ice cream is only considered potentially dangerous because the machine it comes from could not have been cleaned properly... wouldn't this also apply to almost anything at a restaurant? Like fountain drink machines? Those ketchup dispensers? Or even hard ice cream because the spoons used to serve it may not have been cleaned well enough?

  21. Mrs.Someone

    pomelo / 5228 posts

@chibee: Glad you're feeling better today! The double sickness is the worst.

@kodybear: The only rules I follow are no raw foods and no unpasteurized cheese. The risks are so tiny for anything else.

@pui: I think it has to do with cleaning the machine, since it can't be stuck in a dishwasher. That said, as long as the restaurant is clean, I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe not from McDonald's though Again, the risks are very low.

  22. pui

    bananas / 9899 posts

@Mrs.Someone: But what about the ketchup dispenser thing? Or fountain drink machines? Ice machines? The cream that comes out of those dispensers at Tim Hortons? Couldn't all those potentially carry the same risk?

  23. regberadaisy

    GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts

@pui: it's because of the risk of listeria. Which I don't think exists in a ice machine, soda machine, etc. But I can be wrong.

Honestly, even in my second pregnancy I'm taking the same (crazy) precautions. I *know* there are plenty of pregnant woman that took those risks and had perfectly healthy babies. To me the risk is just not worth it. I would never ever forgive myself if something went wrong and I could have prevented it. I think it's just a comfort level thing and I'm not comfortable with it. I have had so many other pregnant woman tell me basically it's ridiculous the precautions I take. Hey it's your baby, you do what you want and I will do what I want with my baby.

My post delivery meal was a old fashioned assorted (turkey, ham, salami!!) sub from my all time favorite sub shop with a ice cold glass of full caffeinated coke! Not sure what it will be this time.

  24. pui

    bananas / 9899 posts

@locavore_mama: Maybe not in ice machines or fountain machines... but it seems really likely to me that the risk of listeria could still be there for the cream and ketchup dispensers, or that butter topping dispenser at the movies... those types of things. I guess I just wonder why there is no warning for those things, just soft serve.

  25. Mrs.Someone

    pomelo / 5228 posts

@pui: Think about what sort of stuff can grow bacteria. Cream, definitely, water and soda, not so much. If you're really worried about it, ask your doctor about what do avoid. Also, remember your immune system protects you from some of this stuff naturally, its just that our defenses are lower in pregnancy, so if the bacteria is high enough, we have a higher risk of being affected.

  26. regberadaisy

    GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts

@pui: hm. I'm really not sure! We don't go out to movies much really and don't eat fast food often so it was never a concern for me. The few times we do eat fast food we always take out so it's always package ketchup. You should google if you're concerned! Maybe bc ice cream is a common craving?

  27. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@pui: I think its the dairy in the ice cream that can carry it. And yes, its because those machines are not often sanitized just wiped down. Hand scooped ice cream typically is using a spoon that goes through a dishwasher.

Yes, Ketchup bottles that sit on tables are also a big carrier of listeria. You can usually ask for a single serve packet if needed.

Also, this risk often carries into fresh fruits and veggies. If you aren't sure that they are being washed and prepared properly you should avoid them.

  28. pui

    bananas / 9899 posts

@T.H.O.U.: So then I'd assume that cream or butter dispensers may also be a risk since they also serve dairy products and are probably treated the same way (not often cleaned thoroughly, just wiped down). I guess I just find it odd that I've never read anywhere that those could potentially be risky.

  29. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@pui: Yes I would assume the same with those as well.

  30. chibee

    pear / 1974 posts

@kodybear: i'm really not being overly crazy about it - i had pinkberry at the airport oops! my ob ok'd having a sub every once in a while, so i'm saving that for when i am really, really craving one. other than that... i've been doing ok with caffeine (i still drink soda every once in a while but quit my 2 coffees/day habit) and i had a bite of my sisters bagel with lox!

  31. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@chibee: Thats my thing as long as you are smart about it and do it in moderation you should be fine.

I just hate when the mommy wars start and people brag that they 100% avoid deli meat, etc and can't believe that someone would OMG eat a piece of sushi. When reality, a good quality sushi place is probably cleaner then the ketchup dispensers at mcdonalds and the unwashed lettuce from a deli salad.

Heard baby's heartbeat today - everything sounded perfect and I'm officially 12 weeks. Hard to believe - NT scan on Friday. Hoping they may have an educated guess on the little bean's sex.

ETA: Also caved and bought work maternity pants. Gap was having a huge sale, as was Motherhood Maternity. We will see if they work. I waited until I was desperate for bigger pants until ordering - do not recommend this approach.

@BakerBee: Yea! I am so excited for mine on Wednesday and hope we have a strong heartbeat still!

  34. kodybear

    pear / 1616 posts

@pui: I've always wondered that too. I feel like anything can have a risk of listeria (I know that's not true but that's what it feels like). Like fruits and veggies. They never tell u not to eat those but listeria have been found on those in the past as well. So I figure in moderation is okay altho I still feel guilty!

@BakerBee: yay!! Glad it went well!

  35. regberadaisy

    GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts

@T.H.O.U.: the judgment goes both ways. I like to think I never chastise others for the choices they make. But I have had people try to convince me that it's OK to do what *I'm* not comfortable with just because they are comfortable with it. Or try to make me feel ridiculous for my choices. I don't think either way it's right.

I'm comfortable enough in my own choices to not really care what other people think! As long as my husband is comfortable as well then it's all I Care about. Bc although it's my body it is as much his child as it is mine so he gets a say to in what I eat.

Had my NT scan this morning and the u/s tech said everything was measuring well within normal range, and that she saw everything she was supposed to and nothing she wasn't

I also asked her if she could tell the gender and she got a good position from the bum looking up and said that she would guess boy, but that we shouldn't rush out to buy anything just yet. It was such a fun feeling to see baby kicking and also be able to count arms, legs, feet, hands....and maybe even a weiner!

    Next midwife appt is 2/25
