K has already moved to one nap. She's sleeping for 2-3 hours pretty consistently now. It's not ideal for her age but seems to be working. Generally daycare naps suck the first year.

@MamaG: I guess I'm ok with it if it doesn't affect night sleep!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: IF crap naps can still mean STTN, I'll take it!

@snowjewelz: we've had to move bedtime up. She's pretty miserable at 7:00. And we follow a pretty strict no wake up before 6:45. She might wake but we don't intervene.

@snowjewelz: Ethan takes two good naps usually, 1-2 hours. He naps in a pack and play in a separate room. He's up from 4 till bedtime around 8:30.

@snowjewelz: K went down to one nap around 9ish months and did fine. Like @mamag: said, we just moved bedtime up. i'm actually not protecting E's morning nap anymore. if we are home, i'll put her down, but i don't make it a point to be/stay home for it anymore. hoping we can slowly transition out of it and just do the pm nap. on the days she only takes a little morning nap, she sleeps for 3+ hours in the afternoon!

question for those of you in cold places (@winnibee: and others!)...what are you doing for everyday winter wear for the babes? in the past, i've been able to get away with a patagonia down sweater jacket, but that was in NC. last winter we were in CO and we mostly just used the infant bucket seat with a fleece blanket and cover. plus for K's preschool there, they brought her to/from the car, so E didn't have to get out much! now we are in MN, bucket seat is too heavy to haul around, and i have preschool drop-off & pick-up 3x a week. Maybe a patagonia down bunting? I assume those compress enough to go in a carseat, just like the down sweater jackets do? i'm fine throwing a blanket on overtop when we're in the car, but she'll definitely be out and about in the weather more often (plus it gets freaking cold here!). thoughts?

@KayKay: No help, other than I was in MN until age 3 and look like I was always in a ski suit.....lol Whatever you call those

We have a TOOTH. There are more coming. But one is through. 9.5 months old, LOL.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@KayKay: I haven't figured that out yet. I have a patagonia bunting from T's first winter (6-12 months but it's HUGE) that I'll use until he starts walking. But I think honestly I'll probably do the down sweater for to and fro and a blanket over him in the carseat. we also have the down pants from Ty'- they're size 18 month and are huge but they were great so I might get them in 12 month size. Will get a proper snowsuit from LLBean or Northface for when we spend any length of time outside. I like Kamik winter boots - the kind that open WAY up with velcro. I'll need to get boots for both boys soon...I think the smallest boot size is size 4 which will be too big, I'm sure. I should get on that.

@winniebee: yay tooth!
When do they go down to one nap, typically?
Am I crazy for being so worried about her nap?! I think I'm just so cautious/anxious when it comes to sleep, b/c she has never been a good sleeper....
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@KayKay: I have nothing yet, so def. interested in everyone's answers!
@winniebee: YAY! Finally a tooth.
pomelo / 5298 posts
@snowjewelz: I think around a year or later is typical. C went down to one nap right at 12 months. I think you will hear a lot of daycare moms say naps got better when they moved to one scheduled nap at daycare (all of the kids in the class going down at the same time/lights out).
I feel like it's early for K to be doing it at 10 months (really started earlier, but wasn't consistently long), but it's where we are and we are just dealing with it.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@snowjewelz: I like to protect the nap too! T went down to one nap naturally at 14/15 months. It was a rough adjustment and he never napped more than 1.5 hours in the afternoon so I definitely will not be encouraging Ryan to go there earlier than he chooses!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: Me too. I think I'll wait till later to get winter gear, as I'm not really sure what her outside activity level will be, when she'll walk, etc. My plan is to ask for winter stuff for her birthday, haha!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
Thanks for all the support! DH is letting me make the decision, and I already asked for the paper work b/c I really think this will be good for her, and eliminate a long commute that no one likes 2x a week. Esp in the winter, I'd be so nervous about her being in the car for that 30+ min each way in unpredictable weather..
pomelo / 5660 posts
@KayKay: I live in VA so our winters are not awful. I normally just did blanket and a sweater.
pomelo / 5660 posts
@snowjewelz: I'd try and hold on to multiple naps as long as you can. Usually the transition to 1 nap occurs after they turn 1.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@BandDmommy: At home for sure I'll hold onto her 2 nap schedule.. I just don't know if she'll sleep at daycare!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@KayKay: We got a Columbia thick fleece jacket for Logan, plus hat and mittens. He's not out in the cold much though - just going in and out of the car to daycare. And a fleece blanket in the car.
@snowjewelz: Daycare naps suck. But they've never affected Logan's nighttime sleep - he just sometimes goes down for the night at 5:00 p.m.!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: I hope that is the case... For Logan and G they seem to sleep pretty well at night still so... I have some hope!
pear / 1961 posts
@snowjewelz: i don't think you're crazy about the naps at all! the only reason i am not quite as protective of E's morning nap right now is because, with 2, it's so much nicer to be able to do things in the morning (storytimes, music class, etc). between naps & mealtimes, it's hard to fit other fun stuff in!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: Yay, she will LOVE IT! G is so excited to go every day! I let naps be what they are ,but still hold them important on the wekeknds! Still 2 naps and a 2-3-4/5 schedule!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: Yes, she sleeps very well, this week mahhh but that is other issues!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: do you know how they put her down, or try to?
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz:
She in the beginning would hold her and shush her, she has her daughter many days to help,
She then slowly would shush her as she walks into back dinnig. Room where her pnp is and now
Just lays her down and G just rolls to her side and falls alseep if she cries she tries again in 5 mins, I told her I can't do CIO so she doesn't either
More like FIO fuss it out....lol

I'm catching up on all of these sleep / nap discussions to distract myself from J fussing and having trouble falling asleep for his morning nap He's sick which makes me feel so much worse about it - but I know he needs to sleep!
2 weeks of preschool for the big one and we're all sick Not surprising, but I hate seeing the kids sick. Jack's sleep has been really bad. Hard to suck his thumb when he is so congested. We're all exhausted...
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsF: Aww! I know, I hate seeing them sick! Hang in there! I hope everyone feels better soon!
pomelo / 5298 posts
@MrsF: Sorry about the germs. Darn kids at school! Hope everyone gets to feeling better SOON!
I spoke too soon about how good K was doing on one long nap at daycare. Yesterday she took one 40 minute nap all day - followed by about 30 minutes which started by falling asleep on the way home. I shall never comment upon her sleep again!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@MamaG: lol, commenting about sleep seems like the trigger for bad sleep. Ethan's isn't horrible but he went from STTN back to one wake-up.
Last night he was wide awake at 2 am and decided he wanted to pester the cat and open/close his vanity drawer, I ended up taking him to bed with me so I could get some sleep. Luckily he cooperated with that idea.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MamaG: haha! I can talk about sleep all day everyday... She does well some days and not others, so nothing surprises me anymore. I'm just still freaking out about how she will nap at daycare next week!

Ugh I have to start planning Ds first birthday. It has lost priority with everything going on lately. I have NO idea what to get her as a gift. We have so many toys and Dave buys her a doll everytime he sees once. He's a sucker. LOl
pomelo / 5298 posts
@BandDmommy: We are in the same boat of what to buy. We have too many "things" in our house already. And with Christmas being so close after. For Christmas she will get a PBK anywhere chair and an American Girl Itty Bitty Baby. I'm going to keep it low key for the birthday I believe. It's going to be just us and her Grandma anyway.
pomelo / 5298 posts
@snowjewelz: I think it's best to expect the worse regarding the daycare situation. She's likely to take at least one short nap from sheer exhaustion. Anything above that will be a bonus. She's also likely to sleep better on her non-daycare days and at night. But she will sleep, some.
