K has a wicked little cough today - while I love fall/winter, there are so many things I dislike. Namely short daylight and the colds we all seem to get. Boo!
We are also still battling a diaper rash that seems to be improving but isn't gone yet.
K's nap was short today (1:15!), but I really don't know why. I suspect it was the cough.
C asked me this weekend when we are getting another baby. Sorry kiddo, no more babies for this family!

@MamaG: I can't even get one sock on to J before the other one is off. He is going to be the sock-less, shoe-less baby at the grocery store all winter!
Does anyone have a magical product (booties? something else?) that they can't get off? He can't really have bare feet in the freezing cold but I literally can't keep a sock on him for more than 13 seconds. I may resort to tights (not kidding at all )

@winniebee: @Adira: @MamaG: So sorry for the sick kiddos I hope everyone is feeling better soon!
DH is almost acting like he has the flu which of course has me terrified about the kiddos. That and our sitter said that Jack's eyes were crusted over after morning and naps today. I didn't see him today because I worked so we'll see what we find in the morning! We have been sick nonstop since M started school in September

Between the time change and getting another tooth, sleep is all over the place lately! E was up at 5a today (fed, tried to put back down, eventually just got her up at 545a), and was back down for a nap at 7a because she was SO grumpy. Going to get her second dose of flu shot today and then travelling this weekend to visit my parents. Might as well pile it all on, right?
@mrsf: keep him away from the kids! oh wait, that is a pain too. haha. ummm....make him wear a mask?
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@Miss Ariel: E had some of daddy's milk last night too, lol.
@MrsF: Luckily Ethan hasn't figured out he can take his socks off yet.. but maybe his chubby legs make it harder to get them off... We have some longer socks from the Gap, would those work?
@MrsF: Oh no, hope your DH feels better and no one else gets it!

@MamaG: @MrsF: K has a runny nose too... I forgot she was getting congested and didn't suck out her nose/put on Vicks before bed so she didn't sleep that well! Ugh. DH is battling a cold too so I feel like I need to let him rest when I can!
@FaithFertility: We are up at 6 so not too bad, but I don't want this to become the new normal!

For the mamas with older kids... What do you do with all their artwork? I've read/seen ideas before but now I blank on them! I'm starting to bring home tons of art work from K already lol.

Thanks guys! DH doesn't seem any worse today so I think it's probably not the flu. Freakin' husbands, man. He is usually a kind of stoic guy, but he gets a cold and it's like he's on his deathbed... but refuses to take any meds. Great.

@snowjewelz: Ooooh, the artwork. I had DH hang some string (wire would look nicer) in a few different places and I put tiny clothespins on it. We hang artwork on them and when it gets full I try to purge. I save only very few things in memory boxes and I try to keep it to only things that she actually made vs mostly being made by an adult. A couple of seasonal things go into the box of things for that holiday (just packed up halloween decorations and some preschool artwork with it). The rest goes into the recycling. I'm brutal!
ETA: obviously this particular one in the playroom could use a purge She's happy because most of her things are displayed, but we only save the ones that we are particularly special.

@MrsF: Once this honeymoon phase of "aww look at these cute footprints and art work" goes away I'll probably be brutal too b/c I hate clutter!

@KayKay: @theotherstark: @FaithFertility: Ugh - the early mornings are rough. M didn't really grow out of that until she dropped her AM nap
eggplant / 11861 posts
@MrsF: Man I hope not she is not taking to this DLS well, up at 5:15/5:30 and skipping her morning nap at daycare which results in an early afternoon nap that she wakes to early from and is tired/cranky by 6:30 I put her to bed last night at 7:15 still up at 5:15!

@BandDmommy: Wow, nice to see that WCM transition went good!!!

@snowjewelz: I hang them up, but i'm awful - i have tossed all of her artwork from when she was younger. It's too perfect for me to feel like it's authentic! I mainly saved the hand print ones. You could also think about having a box for her - toss them in a box as you get new artwork. I know lots of parents who digitize them - you can make a book out of all of their artwork.

Yikes, so many kids sick! Hope they all feel better soon. A had croup/flu and it was a crappy week.
@MrsF: Have you tried Robeez? Neither one of my kids can get them off!
@theotherstark: @FaithFertility: I hate DST! He was up at 4:30am and i couldn't get him back down.
Sorry i've been MIA! But some good news....sleep training is working and A is finally only waking up once. Too bad it's at 4:30am, but i'll take 10.5 hours of straight sleep for now!
I have a question for those with kiddies in daycare. What do you do if your kid had a crappy nap or didn't have an afternoon nap when you pick them up? Will you have them nap when you get home? How much does it screw with bedtime? When i picked up A yesterday at 3pm, he still didn't have his afternoon nap so he had a 30 min nap at 3:45 but fell asleep while nursing and woke up for real at 4:45. I typically have him asleep by 6pm, but i couldn't get him to sleep until 7:45pm and it was really hard to put him down.

@Freckles: Ever since Logan moved up to the Infant 2 room, his naps have been complete crap. They have only been putting him down for ONE NAP and it's often only an hour, so he's EXHAUSTED by the time we get home. He's just been going to bed by 6:00 (5:30 last night) because of it.
honeydew / 7444 posts
@Adira: Ugh, that's awful! I had to have him nap because he woke up from his first nap at 10:30am!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Freckles: Right now we are okay b/c she's home around 2:30 but she will nap till like 4:30. She goes to bed between 7:30-8. Some nights she is asleep by 8, some nights takes a little longer. When she switches to full day, she can't nap at home and I'll just put her to bed early. Do you NEED him to go to bed early? Or can you pick up either earlier or later?
pomelo / 5660 posts
@Freckles: with B daycare naps stunk until he moved into toddler room. I just dealt with a cranky baby and would put him to bed and he would STTN.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: yeah, this is why we haven't switched to full day! all of the kids in K's room are older than her (tho same yr) so most of them are on 1 nap I think.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@BandDmommy: Yep - Xander's naps were crap until he was in the toddler room too and firmly on one nap.
@snowjewelz: I think tonight when I pick him up, if he's only had the one nap, I'm going to start asking them to put him down at 10:30 a.m. and then again in the afternoon. I miss spending time with my little buddy during the week!!!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: In our room they nap from like 11 till I don't know when. Since K has been waking up at like 6am. I did ask for them to put her down early too, but they said she doesn't want to sleep when it's bright and other kids are doing things lol! She woke up at 6am yesterday, then slept from 10:50-12:30 then came home and slept from 2:30-4:15. Let's see what happens today, lol.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: Yeah, they keep telling me that Logan doesn't seem tired too, and he'll be wide awake and playing when I get there, but as soon as we get home, he's cranky as hell and I have to put him to bed!

sorry i haven't been as active. i just feel like a broken record always complaining about sleep. micah consitently wakes up twice after every two hours and then every single hour after that. so he's up 5 times a night because he's up for the day around 5:00-5:30 .
honeydew / 7283 posts
@BandDmommy: Woah! Glad WCM is going well
@whenoceansrise: I'm so sorry. It's so frustrating to feel like things aren't changing. Feel free to vent here - life with bad sleep is HARD. I hope that better sleep is in your future!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@whenoceansrise: Ugh, I'm sorry, that's so rough! Are you guys co-sleeping?
nectarine / 2053 posts
@MrsF: thank you! we may try letting him cry it out. i don't know yet!
@Adira: nope, he's in his crib. dh has been telling me to just bring him in bed with us but i don't want to create another thing we'll have to break him of
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@whenoceansrise: I am so sorry! And this is a safe place to vent so don't feel like you're just saying the same thing! We are here for moral support! For the record, I still cosleep and K is able to STTN, tho I know it's not the norm it seems?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@whenoceansrise: Oh, okay, I wasn't sure if maybe co-sleeping was the problem, but I guess it's not! I'm with you - I wouldn't want to create another habit you'd have to break him of later. Are you against CIO (or maybe it doesn't work for you guys)?
nectarine / 2053 posts
@snowjewelz: i need all the moral support i can get!
@Adira: I'm definitely not against CIO. We've tried it before and it didn't work- the first time I let him cry for 2 hours then I just couldn't handle it. Also, when he wakes up the first thing he does is stands up in his crib, I have no idea how he's going to soothe himself back to sleep while standing up!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@whenoceansrise: Ugh, I'm sorry!!! Yeah, I don't think I could handle 2 hours either. That sucks. Tell him to stop hating sleep so much!!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@Freckles: No really good nap advice.. Ethan usually naps really well at daycare, morning and afternoon but will sometimes fall asleep nursing at 6, I let him sleep for 30 minutes tops, BUT we also don't have an early bedtime like (everyone?) else here.
It was 8:30 for awhile, but more like 9-10 lately. I need to get better about sticking to a bedtime, but if he doesn't go down at 8:30 (cries for more than 5 minutes) i bring him back out and let him hang out with us for awhile longer.
@whenoceansrise: Thats sooo rough! I know I wouldn't be able to handle the 2 hours of crying either; Does he always stand up? E will sometimes, and thats when I bring him out with us or would nurse back to sleep, but like last night, he fussed at 11 and 2 but got himself back to sleep after 5 minutes or so. I'm not sure what you can do to fix that! So sorry!
