There was a horrible accident about a mile from my house last night. Parents were driving and the dad and two teenagers were killed in a head-on crash with another car The family lived in my town. I saw the aftermath on my way home from work... Just thinking about this woman losing her husband and kids in one moment has me so rattled. I was just fighting back tears while singing to my kids before J's nap. I see a lot of death right in front of me at work, but when it's outside of work or I can relate to it as a mom somehow I'm such a wimp. Plus pregnancy hormones, of course.

@mrsf: oh my -- that is so scary! it's really hard to see/hear stories like that once you have kids, and the pregnancy (or post-partum) hormones just make it so much worse.
i really try to avoid upsetting news like that nowadays (e.g., people magazine online always has the worst stories!), but every once in awhile, a headline/subheader sneaks in. or, as in your case, real life is unavoidable

@MrsF: that is so awful I don't need hormones to bawl at any children related news... I just feel everything so much more deeply as a mom!
And yes.. K suddenly seems SO big to me compared to little K!

@MrsF: Horrible!!! Its so sad and hits the heart for sure!!!!
@snowjewelz: Early bed time is amazing!!! I am day to day now too we have zero schedule and he sleeps when he sleeps and eats when he eats......lol I say a good day is if me or G don't cry.....lol

@KayKay: I seriously go out of my way to avoid anything upsetting like that. Stories about sick kids, sick parents, etc - pregnant or not I can't handle it. (I know this sounds insane because I work in the ICU, but somehow that is in a totally separate compartment for me)
@snowjewelz: "I just feel everything so much more deeply as a mom!" <---- THIS, 100% exactly how I feel.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: ahh for sure hahah
@MrsF: it's like those news are always sad.. But I guess maybe I start thinking about what if it's my kids or my family.. Then I just loose it!

2 week hiatus, back to work today! Hope everyone had a good holiday!
@MrsF: Accidents with kids are so scary/sad. We had a family nearby who lost their 14 yr old and 6 year old girls in a car/semi accident just before Christmas. The parents survived but were in critical condition and one child. So sad. DH is much more worried about me driving in snow b/c of this.
Anyone try potty training over break? Ethan wants to do everything himself now, so I tried training undies a couple times with zero success, lol. He does better at daycare with it, so I think I'll let her lead!
What was the fav. Christmas gift for everyone? E's most-played with is a train set. He's loving his (old) lego's right now. He got a ride-on powered motorcycle that is OMG so loud. I think it will be moving to the garage/basement soon!

@josina: Her play house as long as she can get Owen our dog to go in with her! lol
G has a 4-wheeler power wheel but she is scared of the noise....lol I think it might be too loud for her little sensitive soul!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: my parents got it for her during after christmas sales, but it's this pop up tent/tunnel/ball pit thing! she is super into hiding so it's been fun; it's just annoying b/c this thing is huge and tho it's foldable we're too lazy!
No interest for potty here... Well, she DOES have interest, she likes to mimick the whole process down to wiping with actual TP and flushing, but I don't actually take off her clothes b/c she has never shown me she'll actually go. And with a newborn now I am in absolutely NO hurry to do this lol!
@FaithFertility: Kara doesn't like super loud noises either!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@snowjewelz: E has something similar w/o the balls. He loves it too. I did unhook the tunnel part so we're just using the tent now so it takes up a 'little' less space!

Favorite gift? Other than all of Chloe's things? Seems to be the Melissa & Doug Wheels on the Bus puzzle that plays the song when you remove a piece.
Very limited interest in potty training here too. She's started taking her diapers off, but actually getting her to sit on the toilet for more than 2.3 seconds, not a chance.
We are onto another cold. She started with a runny nose on Thursday and I'm currently listening to her cough away in her crib while she's napping. I'm not much of a fan of the immunity building process.

@MamaG: Kara loves her MG puzzle with the diff songs too!
Kara's nose never stopped running.. I stopped counting how long its been!

@snowjewelz: The runny nose doesn't bother me a ton. Well other than this kid just can't stand it, so she's constantly asking "nose wipe" and her poor nose is so irritated/raw. It's the cough that seems to disruptive to sleep that really gets me.
I finally feel like I'm getting over my bronchitis - it was a doozey. I'm not wanting to be sick again.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MamaG: the cough would bother me too!! My ears have been hurting since I came home from the hospital... I haven't even had time to go to urgent care I hope you don't get sick again! Stomach bug is plaguing our area so I'm praying we don't get it!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@MamaG: boooo.....we still have our cough!!! It's driving me NUTS!!!!! It went away while on meds but it's back!
I took everything off Christmas tree and out it goes tonight
And starting her on a dose of Claritin!!!
I'm over it

@MamaG: we've all been sick here too. Both K and I had an awful stomach bug. But being out of daycare for 2 weeks K's constant cough cleared up. Unfortunately J now has a cough with bronchialitis.

Hmmm...favorite toy is probably this bug game (basically Jenga but with red/blue/green pieces that have eyes and you roll a dice to say which color you have to pick). It was actually Kate's, but of course she loves it. Other favorite is a Hape pretend coffee maker -- both girls have been making a LOT of "coffee" and "hot chocolate" lately!
We didn't attempt any potty training over break. Still minimal success actually using the potty, but she is happy to tell us every time she pees or poops and request an immediate diaper change anytime it's inconvenient
BUT we did switch her to a big girl bed (bottom bunk in Ks room that they will now share). She bailed the first night mid-night, but has napped there successfully twice and slept all night last night without a peep. YAY! R might actually get a crib and a nursery someday

@KayKay: We switched to a big boy bed this weekend too... first night he wanted to sleep in the crib yet, last night I switched spots so the toddler bed was where the crib was, and put the rail back on the crib, and he agreed to sleep in his bed... he was still in our bed by midnight as usual.
E is funny, whenever he poops he goes and 'hides' in his tent now, and if we ask him if he went, or to go to the bathroom, it's a giant NO.

@josina: Favorite toy here was a toss up between the M & D metal pots & pans and the "groceries" from a shopping cart.
M has no desire to potty train yet. He's also back to crappy naps.. 25 min on Sun & 40 min today. I want his 1.5 hr ones back!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: ooo you think it's the tree?
@Miss Ariel: oh nooo I hope you guys recover soon!
@josina: Kara lies about pooping too!
nectarine / 2210 posts
@josina: just now answering the favorite toys. She really likes her kitchen and accessories. Today she spent a bunch of time playing with her cutting food. She likes her bitty baby especially changing its diaper and taking its clothes off. She was also a big fan of the playdough in her stocking.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@josina: J wants to sit on the potty all the time, though he has never had any success at all and just wants to sit for 3 seconds at a time and then hop on and off. Sometimes he's content to sit with his clothes on, which is obviously more convenient. Ugh. I'm not sure what we'll do. I'd love to wait for warmer weather but the closer to my June due date we get, the less appealing that starts to sound. He won't start preschool until he's almost 4, so at least there's no hurry if his interest doesn't escalate.
I don't know if we really have a favorite Christmas gift. Mostly just little things - cars & truck are the absolute fav in general. My BIL just got him a set of those utensils that are in the shape of cars and trucks which he loves. Adorable and functional and don't take up any space - win!
@MamaG: Ugh - too many illnesses

Why does being a Mom make you bipolar??? Couldn't wait for G to go back to her sitters and of course she woke early DH was gone at work so he crawled into bed with me, then AJ woke I pulled him into bed too! So I had a baby on either side! Then she woke and leaned over me to kiss him Gahhh and now I miss her....lol

@FaithFertility: aww, so sweet. E's first day back in 7 days was today and he didn't want me to leave, he was crying when I left.

@josina: awww yeah I thought today would be like that too, she has been off since Dec 16th!

It's hard for Kara to leave for school in the morning bc I'm at home!
I decided ultimately not to increase her hours till I go back to work... Need to save $!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: I hear ya on the $$$
I don't go back until 2/21 but money is slowly leaving our account and apparently if I go back end of Jan I don't lose my Summer pay which I guess I will (had no idea) thinking I might go back early!!!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: I might go back earlier too... I so far feel like it's easier to go back early this time bc I'm not having anxiety over everything!

Someone please tell my 2 yr old to nap! He's spent an hr so far rolling around in his bed and making silly screeching sounds.
nectarine / 2210 posts
@snowjewelz: @FaithFertility: today is my first day back and it's kind of nice in a way. Dh is actually on winter break still so he was home with both kids this morning. It was such a stress free morning just being able to leave the house all by myself!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@AngelicOne: at home K takes forever to fall asleep too.. At school it's either normal or random 10 min nap days!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Miss Ariel: that sounds great haha! It's just harder for me to go back early bc my mom has to pull extra hours for me.. We are waiting till DD2 is 6 mo to send her to daycare to try to save some $
persimmon / 1050 posts
@snowjewelz: He never fell asleep after being in there for 1.5 hrs. Usually he's out within 30 mins, tops.
persimmon / 1050 posts
@snowjewelz: Nope!
@MrsF: Agreed! Toddler meltdowns when there's no nap are not fun.
