@Adira: So glad Xander is home! I hope he continues to get better quickly!
@MamaG: What a nice surprise!
@winniebee: I've had some serious nesting urges as well, but they have made me want to knit tiny baby things more than clean/organize. I desperately need to do those things too, though, so hopefully the urges switch gears soon!

SIL totally added stuff to my to-do list as a FTM... Finding a ped for LO! Starting to feel stressed esp since Sept is over!

@snowjewelz: I ended up asking my midwife if she had any suggestions for a pediatrician and so I use the same one she does!

@Adira: So glad Z is home!!!!
Well we FINALLY started working on the nursery for this little lady. Still not totally sure how its going to turn out- but at least I have an idea of what we are going to do! I cleaned the room yesterday and DH plastered the nail holes in the walls. Just need to sand and then prime. I am thinking of just doing white walls sine the fabric for the curtains/ crib sheet and changing pad are so bright! Just need to pick up the dresser from my friends house this weekend- then I can start refinishing it! (hmmm- writing this down it feels like we still have so much to do!!)

@snowjewelz: We narrowed it down by getting the list of who was authorized to practice at our hospital where I gave birth (there was only about 6!). We also have a large children's hospital with affiliated clinics. That made sense to me since the records are all integrated between all the clinics and the children's hospital. Of the six authorized at our hospital, four were from the same clinic. We picked that clinic and then read their profiles online to pick the doctor. I met with him once briefly and asked a few questions. Three years later, we still use the same ped.

@snowjewelz: We went with a recommendation from a friend. We love our pedi- but he is kinda far away from our house (20 minutes with no traffic) but has really late office hours, which is nice. I think we might start the search for someone new that is closer to home.

@cheert16: That's so exciting that you've started the nursery!!! I still need to get curtains for Xander's room and I'm wondering if I should go with blackout curtains since his new room gets so much more light. And white is a good classic color and very versatile if you want to change up the decor and color schemes later!
nectarine / 2631 posts
@Adira: I was thinking blackout curtains too! The new nursery gets sunlight all day long- so I think I will want them in there. Also its right on the road so its a bit louder than B's nursery- hopefully that will help muffle the sound a bit!

We have blackout drapes in both of the kids rooms. It certainly helps with temperature and darkness for sleeping. They aren't the prettiest and cover our really nice plantation shutters, but they are functional.

@Adira: So glad to hear that Xander is home from the hospital! I can't imagine how hard that is for all of you.

@snowjewelz: We just moved to a new town and met our new pedi today. I've been super-stressed about it but I ended up going with someone who was recommended by lots of people on my local MOMs club FB page. I feel like recommendations from other parents are so helpful because they're taking the office staff, hours, etc into account as well as the actual Dr.

@MrsF: @BandDmommy: Thanks ladies!! We're all thrilled to have him home! (And Hubs was thrilled to be able to sleep in his own bed since he was the one staying at the hospital each night)

Anyone else having a lot of BH contractions? I haven't really counted how often they're coming, but definitely several times an hour over the past few days. They're not painful, just uncomfortable because everything feels so tight - but they do seem to be brought on by activity. If I bend over to pick something up off the floor I have a 20 second or so contraction when I stand up. Obviously I'm trying to limit activity but it's not easy with a toddler!
I have an OB appointment tomorrow (I'm 31 weeks) so hopefully she can calm my nerves a little!

@MrsF: Thanks! I just posted to my local FB mom group!
@cheert16: I just realized my co-worker recently moved to my town and she has a 1 yr old so I wonder where she goes!
@MamaG: I love how methodical you were in your approach! I will for sure get a list when I go there for my tour/class!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MrsF: I haven't had any BH contractions yet, but I don't think I had them until late last time. I think they can be common anytime after 20 weeks though, so it's normal! Hopefully your OB can give you more information and let you know everything's okay.

@snowjewelz: Each person has to find their preference but what i like about our ped is he is older (like probably near 60) so I know he's well experienced but he has a great progressive attitude. As a FTM I had a lot of grandiose ideas about how things were going to go. He pretty much told me that he's seen it all and willing to let me try it all. He will listen and offer his opinion but isn't likely to tell me no unless it will harm my child. It made me feel like I'd be in control.
Another thing that was important to me was that we would actually see the doctor, I didn't want to see a nurse. He was honest with us about how the different doctors handle it in his clinic and he's been right on. We have always been able to decline a nurse and get him without much delay.
Knowing what is important to you will help facilitate your decision. And I'm just lucky at picking drs. I usually can pick one and be happy with my decision on fairly minimal research.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MamaG: Thanks for the insight! I have no idea a lot of times you never see an actual doctor! I totally agree that I need someone I can trust as a FTM, and someone that won't laugh in my face for being a little nuts!

@MrsF: I'm the same as you. I get them all the time especially climbing stairs and bending and lifting T. But my cervix is still nice and long (I'm monitored) so they aren't doing anything yet. My doc told me to call if I have more thhan 6 an hour which I don't think I have had.

I don't think I've had any BH. I do get winded going up and down the stairs, especially carrying a 30 pd toddler.
nectarine / 2631 posts
@MrsF: I have had them a few times- and they shocked me since I never had any with my first pregnancy!
@BandDmommy: carrying LO is getting way harder and he is only 24 lbs! Its like suddenly he knows I don't want to carry him down the stairs (it makes me nervous) and suddenly he wont walk down them!!
Anyone else super off balance lately? I seriously think that this baby has totally messed with my center (umm- I am dance teacher I should have an amazing center!!) because I am constantly falling! Like 3 times in 3 weeks! First week it was down a couple stairs, second week it was over my own feet, and this weekend I fell in a ditch while apple picking.... Just call me klutzy!!

I had an internal ultrasound to check my cervix as well as a growth scan today (28 wks and change). The good news is that my cervix is still nice and long with no sign of preterm labor. The growth scan, however, showed baby is small (20th percent which is not small in my world) but also that baby's abdominal growth is lagging and disproportionate to his head growth. Which could simply mean that he is skinny (which doesn't surprise us). It could also mean he is not getting enough nutrients. So this bought me an immediate ticket to maternal fetal medicine (perinatologist) where they did a repeat ultrasound with the same findings. The perinatologist initially told us we need to follow 2x a week for the next few weeks. But then changed his mind and said to follow up in 2 weeks. I guess in 2 wks as long as his abdomen has grown proportionately that should be the end of this. If not then it will be more monitoring and if things got bad an early induction. My gut is telling me that this boy is simply skinny like his brother. Just more stress and worry for us in the meantime. I just wish I had normal pregnancies and feeling a little bummed that if it's not one issue, it's another.
I've gained 18 lbs and baby is no longer breech (yay!)

@winniebee: It's comforting to hear that yours sound so similar to mine but aren't causing any changes. Thanks!
@cheert16: I never had any with my first LO either! People kept asking if I was having BH and I was like "um... I don't think so?". And I'm no dancer, but I'm definitely extra-clumsy these days! I had a major fall in the parking lot at work last week but I didn't squish the baby or spill my coffee! I have a huge gash on my knee that is scaring my DD though

@winniebee: Sorry that you're appointment wasn't uneventful . It's so hard when it feels like it's always something! At least you'll be watched carefully. Hope the next scan shows a nice big belly!

@winniebee: hoping it's just a skinny little boy!
I have my 3 hour GD test Friday.

@cheert16: I have definitely lost my balance a few times while teaching, and even fell backwards into a chair (luckily) once. I am normally pretty klutzy, but it has just gotten worse with this belly!
@winniebee: Sorry your appointment just added stress for you! My little boy is on the smaller side too which has made me worry a bit on top of everything else. I hope your little guy is just skinny like his brother!
@BandDmommy: Good luck at your test!

@MrsF: that's a win if you didn't spill your coffee or squish your belly!!

How are you feeling: pretty good! I have way more energy now that I am taking iron for my anemia.
How is labor prep going? (hospital classes, hospital bag, alternative care for other LO, etc) haven't taken a class but I am reading a book on natural childbirth and doing prenatal yoga. I also have better insurance through my job and am meeting a new OB next week due to my current OB closing his office. It's a little scary but the new OB is highly recommended and delivers at a great hospital.
Hope everyone's doing good

3rd Trimester GTKY:
Weeks Pregnant: 31 + 3
Weight gain: ~5 lbs
Decided on Name (Y/N): Yes, Kaylee Parker
How are you feeling: My feet are quite swollen by the end of each day and sleep is challenging. I've also been really easy to irritate lately. I think I'm just feeling overwhelmed and done.
How is labor prep going? (hospital classes, hospital bag, alternative care for other LO, etc) We have arranged care for C during my hospital stay. I haven't even considered getting ready for the hospital and probably won't until the day before (scheduled c-section). We aren't doing any classes this time, but I would like to take C to the hospital for a tour, just so she's been exposed.
