December 2016 moms!

    I'm very very very cautiously sticking my head in here. We had three losses last year, and it's still early (5+3) -- I was trying to hold off until I had bloodwork or an ultrasound, but at this point my test lines are darker than the control and I'm feeling nauseous, so hopefully it's a sticky baby?!

    Location: Ontario

    EDD: December 16 by my calculations -- they'll probably change it on me because they go by LMP

    How far along: 5+3

    First child? Second living one, hopefully!

    First doctor appointment: I have a specialist appointment with an OB on Wednesday -- it was supposed to be my repeat loss intake, so I don't know if he'll do anything with this current pregnancy. My first prenatal appointment is scheduled for May 2.

    Any symptoms so far? Nausea on and off, bit of heartburn, bloating, sore boobs, sheer anger at my husband sometimes.

    Who have you told? My husband, my counselor, and the internet. I hate un-telling, so we will be waiting until we feel like we're on solid ground.

    @catlady: I just made my first appointment for Thursday. I finally get to tell someone... My fertility specialist... Lol. From there I'm not too sure yet. I'll just follow my doctors lead.

    @MrsDragon: have they/will they be measuring progesterone? I've heard that low progesterone has been suspected of causing repeat losses mine was low with #1 so I supplemented.

    @marley: @catlady: @WinterBee: Thank you!
    @wheres_c: I haven't seen anyone yet -- I'm not sure what the specialist will do. But if he doesn't do any testing I won't get anything done until past 7 weeks because that's when my prenatal appointment is.

    How far along: 4 weeks, 3 days

    First child? 2

    First doctor appointment: Not scheduled yet - hopefully will schedule today or tomorrow.

    Any symptoms so far? Absolutely nothing! The amount of sticks I have peed on since Thursday is embarrassing.

    @PurplePumps: Where are you located? I love the practice / OB I go to, if you are interested in hearing about them! I delivered at BI. I didn't go through IVF, but I did have bleeding with my daughter. I spotted until 7 weeks, and then had gushes of bright red blood from 7 - 8 weeks. All ended up fine and we never found out the cause of the bleeding. I hope it has stopped by now!

    @ocean81: I'm pretty far from the city. I think I will end up looking into Emerson out in Concord. Oh wow, I've read it's common with IVF, but didn't know it happen for "normal" pregnancies too. It seems to have finally stopped... I have a u/s tomorrow so I'll get to see how things are going.

    How far along: 4 weeks on Thursday

    First child? Second, I have a four year old.

    First doctor appointment: I think it will be sometime between the 5th and 12th of May with my RE.

    Any symptoms so far? I'm on progesterone suppositories and they seem to be making my symptoms so much worse! My boobs are so sore and I am so bloated.

    Who have you told? Just DH and my mom. Friends know we were starting fertility treatments again but they don't know the timing.

    Had my first doctors appontment today.
    Still pregnant per the urine test.
    Did an ultrasound. Saw a gestational sac but not much else, but it's still early so he's saying that may be normal for this point. Will be going back in 2 weeks for a repeat scan and will know if this is a viable pregnancy.

    @wheres_c: it's super early!
    I had another blood test yesterday. Betas are good but my TSH is 4.8! They want me to come back next week but how do I not freak out until then?

  21. ocean81

    apricot / 431 posts

    @marley: Do you have a history of thyroid problems? When I was pregnant with my daughter and I went in for blood work, I remember that I had an outstanding thyroid test in the lab from a physical a few month prior that I never went to the lab to take (oops) and so when I had blood tests around 8 weeks they tested TSH levels as well. My doctor said she couldn't read anything into it because pregnancy throws it off. She wasn't concerned and she just tested it post partum and it was normal. My TSH at 8wks was 4.3. (Normal levels I believe are .28 - 4.10) I wanted to share incase it would ease your mind!

    @wheres_c: It's so early! I hope the next 2 weeks fly by. I hate the wait!

  23. marley

    @ocean81: I never had problems with my thyroid and had it recently checked with an endocrinologist a few months ago. Before I conceived my blood work showed 2.9 TSH at the RE office, which is normal if you're not pregnant but high if you are. I read that it should be below 2.5 in the first trimester. Did they put you on any thyroid medication?

  24. ocean81

    apricot / 431 posts

    @marley: They didn't put me on any medication. I am trying to remember the explanation. I think TSH levels have more to do with trying to conceive than to stay pregnant, but I could be wrong! Why are they having you come back? To test TSH again?

  25. marley

    kiwi / 706 posts

    @ocean81: yes, for a full thyroid panel. Hypothyroidism increases the risk of miscarriages so I'm freaking out a bit.

  26. ocean81

    apricot / 431 posts

    @marley: oh, this is coming back to me... My other numbers were within range I think and that's why it wasn't concern. If you haven't had thyroid issues in the past, I bet your doc is being overly cautious and I hope everything comes back normal! Good luck!

    I'm getting an ultrasound today -- I'm 5+5 so stressing about how early it is. The scan was supposed to be for next week but the admin at DI was refusing to work with me to sort it out.

  28. wheres_c

    pomelo / 5789 posts

    @marley: Don't freak out!!!
    I have hashimotos and I have been on thyroid meds for the last 15 years.
    When I got pregnant with #1, they didn't check my levels as much as they should. My TSH ended up being at 20 during the second tri when they checked. They ended up upping my dosage of thyroid meds.
    This time, my TSH is 0.5.
    It will be ok!

    @wheres_c: @ocean81: thanks, guys! I was thinking maybe it's not that bad because the doctor didn't prescribe meds right away.

    After a week of bleeding and spotting last week, my scan today looked good! I saw my little blob with the flickering heart with a rate of 136bpm at 6w5d. I'm on such a high right now I can't hardly believe it!!
