Hey ladies! Hope everyone is doing well.

Sorry I've been MIA. Today was my first official day of maternity leave now that I'm 38 weeks 3 days, although I'm still working from home, so I'm keeping myself busy. I feel like there's still so much to do, at the same time, I just want to meet her already! Just got around to buying the additional stuff off our amazon registry over the weekend and hope things arrive on time at this point....

Anyone else getting a breast pump through their insurance? Thanks to @tricycle 's post, I'm found out today I'm covered as of January 1st, but the 8 places I called in NY don't carry pumps, so now I have to try the 166 plus places in CT. I wish there was some way to narrow it down. I'm tempted to just contact her place in OH, since I think we have the same insurance and see if they'll ship it to me.

@lovebird: I don't have any advice, but wanted to chime in to commiserate with you. I looked into my insurance and I'm also covered and they even have a list of places that SUPPOSEDLY supply breast pumps, but the one place that I found that actually showed breast pumps on their website that you could order didn't have a way to bill the insurance! It was so frustrating and not nearly as straight-forward as I was hoping! I hope you have better luck!

@lovebird: I'm using edgepark for mine since my insurance company gave me their name. I'm still pending insurance verification, but once approved it will be shipped to me here in TX.

@adira: have you tried Cambridge medical and edgepark? I called both today and they happen to be oth in network for me.

@rawrasaur: thanks for the recommendation! Which pump did you end up going with and why? They told me to call back JAnuary 1st when my coverage kicks in.

  7. rawrasaur

    pear / 1769 posts

@lovebird: I requested the Ameda Purely Yours - My insurance covers up to $200 but I'm not sure how much they charge the insurance for that pump since it says the price for insurance is different than the price listed.

@rawrasaur: I can't decide between that and the Medela Advanced Basic Personal...why did you decide on that one over the others (I.e.,Hygiea)?

@lovebird: I have seen it recommended before by a few people on HB. Hadn't really heard anything about any of the other ones.

Did a lot of walking today and ending up having to pause for a handful of BH contractions, and 1 or 2 that were not BH. It's been fun but makes me so glad that I'm nearly done with work.

@lovebird: Thanks for the advice! My SIL actually just gave me her breast pump, so I think I'll just use that instead (although a new one would be nice). I just need to replace the nipple shields for it, but definitely less hassle than trying to figure out this insurance business!

Blergh. Back from a checkup at 39w2d, and still no progress. I know in my head that doesn't matter, but it's still disheartening, especially when I've got cramps and BH that keep getting stronger! They had me schedule a 41 wk appointment and talked about a 12/12/12 induction if this one stays cozied up in there forever, so at least that's promising!

I guess no full moon babies tonight?

Just finished my first work from home day and I am beat. And I managed to only have time to eat half my lunch, so I feel like I'm actually working "more" than usual. Although I shouldn't complain since I saved 4 hours in commuting time.

I have my 38 week check-up tomorrow at 38w4d and I'm hoping for good news. It's the first time they will be checking "down there". In hindsight, I wished hubby didn't request for his week off to start on the EDD. What if she's late!? I told him that next week, I'm going to start eating lots of pineapples, bounce on the exercise ball and take long walks to make sure she comes on time!

@rattles: I'm sorry there hasn't been any progress, but at least you got an eviction date!

@rattles: sorry that there's not more progress. 12-12-12 is a great date for an induction though!

@lovebird: Good luck at the appointment tomorrow. My 38 wk appointment is tomorrow too I'll be 38w1d.

I thought I was having mild contractions today at work so left early but they stopped as soon as I left. I think my body just didn't want to be there any more.

I haven't felt enough to make me think any progress is happening these last few days. I expect to go to my next appointment and be the same as at the last one. I'm totally feeling like I will go past my due date, even though it is still a ways off. I'm trying really hard not to over-think it, though. Only 2 more days of work left!

@travelingbrit: I've had weird crampiness and thought I was maybe having some contractions yesterday, but I guess it was just BH....

Well, the full moon didn't do crap on my end. I'm still hugely pregnant! I was really hopeful that I'll beat my induction, but my parents are coming in on Saturday and they're so excited about being here for the birth, that I've just kind of accepted that the induction is okay. I haven't worked all week and DH and I have PACKED so many things into each day, getting ready with little last minute projects and errands. He had several things around the house he's been meaning to do and he's been in Daddy Nesting Mode trying to get absolutely everything done before she gets here. He doesn't want to have to worry about doing anything once we have her. Same for me. I have finally FINALLY finished washing 14 million outfits, blankets, hooded towels, washcloths, OMG!

People keep asking me about Christmas stuff and what I'm getting for who, and I haven't even THOUGHT about gifts! My brain cannot function or concentrate on anything after this Sunday. We did put our Christmas decorations up inside the house, but we still need to get a tree and put lights up outside. We may wait for my parents to be able to help with that so we can put them to work! Lol

Are you guys Christmas shopping? I'm thinking we're going to be doing a lot of Amazon shopping after we get home and settled with the baby!

@PrincessBaby: I am hoping to be done with my Chritmas shopping by this weekend. I just know it will be so buy with a newborn that I have tried to get everything done ahead of time. For my DDs I have just about everything done and the presents that I have are wrapped. They are priority so as long as I have their stuff, I will be ok finishing later on.

@mrsmenow: Good for you for getting it done! My brain is just like "Does not compute. Does not compute." MIL called me yesterday to ask what we were buying for DH's brother and his wife & daughter and I was like - "I absolutely have not even thought about it, even one time. At all." We'll get it done sometime before Christmas!

There is no room in my brain for anything other than Harper's impending arrival. It's so weird how I just have this mental block!

Just finished my doctor's appointment and both the doctor and I were surprised I am 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced at 38w5d (I did my math wrong yesterday). Hopefully this baby will come on time after all!

@travelingbrit: good luck at your appointment today!

    clementine / 878 posts

@PrincessBaby: yeah I am so unfocused on Christmas presents. I know I should get it done while I am just waiting around but it's really not in the front of my mind right now. Ugh... But I know I will feel bad if I end up getting whatever at the last minute. Wish people would understand but I don't think everyone will, unfortunately.

TMI but I was curious so I squeezed and out came a tiny drop of colostrum! It made me so excited and made this even more real! I also dreamt about baby for the first time the night before.

No BH or any other signs though....... 39 weeks today.

    pomelo / 5789 posts

@mrsmenow: Congrats on being almost done with your Christmas shopping!

We are so far behind - in putting up decorations, and in shopping. We usually do all our shopping on Amazon though, so will just start after the birth.

@lovebird: Sounds promising! Fingers crossed for you!

@PrincessBaby: Everything back to normal with your parents after the whole vaccine debacle?

Anyone planning on having family in the delivery room besides SO/DH?
My MIL told me that she had been at the birth (in the room) of 3 of her grandkids and I was horrified. I promptly told her she would not be at this one.
I know my mom would like to be in the room. That makes a little more sense to me, because shes *my* mom, but I still want it to be just SO and I. I'd like for her to be there an hour or two later.

  28. mrsmenow

    persimmon / 1479 posts

@travelingbrit: It was just DH and I with DD. And then my mom/ family came up once we got to our postpartum room. It was nice that it was something the two of us shared and we had that little bit of time to ourselves.

  29. PrincessBaby

    cantaloupe / 6610 posts

@travelingbrit: Yes everything is back to normal! I finally talked to my sister for the first time yesterday, and we just didn't mention it. We just talked all about the baby and my progress and that stuff. My mom had mailed me a card the week it happened and apologized and sent Harper a cute little dress as a peace offering...It was really sweet:) So we're all good! They fly into FLL on Sat after lunch, so I'm getting really excited because that will make everything more "real" as far as the fact that we're really about to have a baby girl!!!! I think we're going to get a tree on Saturday night and that way we can use my parents as free labor to help decorate and maybe even put the lights up outside! We just put lights on the bottom of all the palm trees to make them look like candy canes, but that's still more work than I feel like doing- lol!

  30. lovebird

    apricot / 301 posts

@travelingbrit: I think I am going to have my mom in the room as well. The hospital allows three support people. I feel like MIL might get offended, but both DH and I agree that it'll be more stressful for both of us if she's there too. I was also considering my 23 year old cousin, who is like a sister to me since I don't have any. But MIL would definitely get pissed right? The reason I want someone else besides DH is because I'm afraid he's not very "supportive". I can just imagine him telling me to just " suck it up and push the baby out already!"

  31. mrsmenow

    persimmon / 1479 posts

@PrincessBaby: @travelingbrit: If we didn't have the two older girls to plan for I probably wouldn't be so gung ho to get everything done. We did get all of our decorations up so baby has a festive home to come to (not that he or she will even notice).

  32. Minnie_Girl

    persimmon / 1453 posts

@PrincessBaby: We decided not to do gifts at all this year! Everyone's been very understanding about it, thankfully. It just would have been too much on top of everything else going on, we'd rather focus on family time this year.

@gracecat: Haha, I totally understand! The first time I noticed colostrum it kind of freaked me out, but now it's almost a point of pride...yay functional boobies.

Last night the BH contractions were driving me nuts! They were the strongest they've ever been and coming on for hours. At one point they started to organize into a pattern and I began to feel them in my back, and I went into COMPLETE panic mode. We are nowhere NEAR ready for baby to get here yet!

(It's weird, one part of me is completely sick of being pregnant, and another part of me is completely overwhelmed at the idea of actually delivering a baby in the next couple of weeks...if that makes sense?)

I took a long shower and went to bed, and this morning they had calmed down. Baby has dropped lower, so they must have been productive...ack. I swore I'd be good today and get as much checked off the to-do list as possible. Full moon warning received.

  33. gracecat

    clementine / 878 posts

It will just be DH and our doula in the room.. My mom can join us soon after the birth but I think I'd stress out if she were there during.

I wouldn't want my MIL there, but it's not even an option since she lives far away.

  34. Minnie_Girl

    persimmon / 1453 posts

@travelingbrit: The only people DH and I are having at the birth are the midwives. That's what we had in mind from the start, and what our midwives recommended for a FTM.

My grandmother lives in the same town, so she and my mother/MIL/sisters/whoever will wait there until we're ready for visitors. I think it will be a nice compromise; they'll be close but won't interrupt anything.

  35. wheres_c

    pomelo / 5789 posts

@PrincessBaby: Are your parents staying with you guys or in a hotel?
I'm still trying to figure out the logistics of my parents and where they should stay.
Mom is coming early (whenever baby's born). We live in a small-ish 2 bedroom townhouse, so don't have much room for her to stay.
Still havent figured out if she's going to stay with us, stay at a hotel, or stay at her BIL's house if he's out on the yacht.

Then at Christmas, Mom & Stepfather will be here. There's definitely not enough room at the house for both of them. Plus my dad will be here, and he is a little low on funds. I don't want to force him to get a hotel, but we really have no room!

Everyone is used to staying in our guest room when they come to visit, because mom and dad never visit at the same time and we've always had a guest room.

Now we have a nursery and they are both visiting at the same time! Don't want to hurt any feelings but I need my space I think.

  36. rawrasaur

    pear / 1769 posts

I would totally be done with Christmas shopping except no one wants anything and I can't find anything new or exciting to get anyone. It is not for a lack of trying though. I think a new family member is a great gift....

@travelingbrit: I'm with you on not being room at our place for family. My family won't care about getting a hotel, but I'm not so sure about his. I told my husband we would pay for their hotel before letting them stay here. They make me miserable enough when they visit as it is, I don't need that with a newborn in the mix as well. Our big problem is that graduation for the local college is Dec 13-14 and there are no hotel rooms available those days. Just the added stress I need.

man this thread has been hard to keep up with lately!

@travelingbrit: i was just planning on me and DH. but that was when i was going to try to go natural. after feeling an hour of contractions i was over it and got the epi. and since i was not in pain i let ppl come visit. since it happen to be thanksgiving my sister/bil/bro were in town and they came to visit in the beginning. my sister offered to stay during the pushing part to take pictures for us. and i was okay with it. now i have tons of pictures of the process which will be great to look back on.

my mil offered to come during the delivery but i said NO. its kind of a whole other story but man she's wanted a daughter her whole life but ended up with 2 boys. now i think shes trying live vicariously through our daughter. some of the things she says and does makes it seem like its her daughter! even the nurses commented on how they couldn't do measurements cause mil wouldn't let go of the baby. anyway she doesn't come around too much but i didn't want her there in the delivery room to take the baby right away.

@lovebird: i know what u mean about DH. i've had a relatively easy pregnancy and labor was not hard cause of the epi so i don't think he fathoms what my body has been going through! when we started pushing he still had the football game on (it was in OT) and i had to tell him to turn it off! aiya

anyway, i'm excited to hear about everyones progress with dilation and effacement! 2 more days till dec!!

Christmas stuff is done, just no decorating yet. I'm scheduled for Friday and Saturday at work but know that I'll be in for at least 3-4 days next week, wrapping stuff up.

Hubs, my mom, and the in-laws are welcome to join us in the room until it's time for pushing, and then it'll just be the two of us. Nobody has said anything about it, so I'm guessing they are all cool with it. If they aren't, oh well.

Because we'll probably be in the hospital for a few days, we've agreed to let all 3 parents stay in our apartment if they want. IL's live about an hour away, so this way they can spend time with us at the hospital if we all want them too. My mom is going to stay with us for about a week, so that she can help out.
