@bushelandapeck: PBJ and apples seem to be the most nutrition I can muster. Most fruits and veggies seem repulsive to me. Tried to eat a piece of pizza today and felt nauseous for hours afterwards.

@dominobee: I've been able to eat what I normally eat for breakfast (toast with PB and banana). I try to eat veggies when I can but I usually feel sick afterwards. I feel the same way about drinking anything other than plain water. I want to be able to drink seltzer so badly but I just can't stomach it.

    I'm surviving on potatoes.

    Baked potatoes, tots, fries...

@dominobee: I try to tell myself they're healthier if I add cheese. You know, calcium.

    @MaryM: LOL! And ketchup - a vegetable.

I am 100% certain I'm not getting enough calories and I've lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks. Trying not to worry but I don't want to hurt my little beans.

Today I've eaten 1 1/2 PBJs, a slice of pizza and a handful of pretzels. I'm going to try to eat some chicken soup, wish me luck. I haven't eaten meat in 2 1/2 years but now I'm just saying screw it, if I can keep it down I'll eat it.

Oh also I just helped DH fish potatoes out of a container that he grew them in without proper drainage. Things got real soggy at the end and I nearly lost my lunch all over his harvest.

@dominobee: were you able to get any potatoes you can use?

My nausea isn't bad...Yet. I do seem to get that full feeling fast so I've been doing smaller, more frequent meals. I feel really dizzy if it's been too long since my last meal. I remember I had this issue last time and I even fainted once while waiting in line for a burrito. It was the tastiest burrito I've ever had, I'll never forget it!

Up until now I'd mostly dealt with reflux and not the actual urge to vomit...I might have packed an empty tupperware for my drive into work this morning. omg...so much worse!

(thankfully no one seems to be working today so there wasn't much traffic and I got to work quickly without needing it)

Does anyone else have to deal with medicines you have to take on an empty stomach? I think that might be making things worse. I have to take my thyroid meds as soon as I wake up and waith 30 minutes to eat after I take them.

I had some brownish (maybe yellow?) discharge this morning and I'm definitely freaking out a little. I don't know if it's spotting, or if it's an infection. I don't have any cramps. I have my 8 week appointment on Thursday.

I just did a more in depth check and it's definitely pink/brown. I'm flying home from New York today and when I get home the doctors will be closed and then tomorrow is a holiday. I'm so scared this is the beginning of a miscarriage. Still no cramping, and I haven't done any of the things that would cause spotting like this, no sex, no exams (except the one last Wednesday). I have been walking a lot in New York and we were at a wedding Saturday and I danced a lot. I did have pretty bad morning sickness Sunday and I threw up really hard, it's possible I burst a capillary in my cervix from bearing down. damn it.

@Tionn3: Can you see if any of your doctors will be on call tomorrow?

  12. CatchAFallingStar

@Tionn3: I spotted a lot during my first pregnancy. It's probably just from all the walking and dancing you did over the weekend. But, if it continues and you're worried, go to urgent care and get it checked out for your peace of mind.

@Tionn3: You're probably right about the burst capillary. Try to stay off your feet as much as you can today and tomorrow. Maybe call your doctors today to see if they can fit you in a day early on Wednesday?

The nausea has been debilitating, but I've been doing everything I can to not throw up. I'm so scared that I'm going to have HG again with this pregnancy - I can't describe how awful it was last time and I honestly don't think I could keep my current job this time around if I get it. I've been taking Zofran in the morning and mid-afternoon, which kind of helps. It makes me so tired, though, and really constipated. I spent 2:30-4:30 this morning lying in bed, begging myself to go to sleep and not throw up, because I knew if I started, I wouldn't stop.

I have a feeling my OB is going to be completely unsympathetic. When I told her, after I had our girl, that I didn't want to get on birth control because we wanted to have another, she shared a "look" with her nurse and then asked me "WHY?? Why would you ever want to go through that again?" I feel like they were totally just done with me by the end of that pregnancy.

    Ugh.

I will have to try the apples and peanut butter. That actually sounds pretty appealing. Right now, I'm eating pickles and string cheese at my desk!

  15. CatchAFallingStar

    nectarine / 2809 posts

@Tionn3: I really think it's just from all the exertion over the weekend. I looked it up and that's pretty common.

  16. snarkybiochemist

    nectarine / 2180 posts

@Tionn3: I had brown/red spotting with some clots 3 days after an ultrasound and after a day of heavy walking. I freaked out and called my RE on a sunday, she said something like 30-50% of normal pregnancies have first trimester bleeding I hope that this bleeding is just a scary and annoying part of a normal healthy pregnancy for you. I was told to stay off my feet as much as I could, no sex, and to try not to lift more then 10lbs.

@Ergggg: Got a couple dozen fingerling red potatoes. Not bad since they started as an experiment with two nearly rotten red potatoes!

And that burrito story is crazy! I would love to eat a burrito but I'm not sure I can handle all the flavors.

    pear / 1553 posts

@Tionn3: I think without severe cramping you are okay. I hope you can get some answers soon! And props for being so active, I've been a total bump on a log (but I'm pretty okay with that).

@magnoliamama42: So sorry about the nausea. That sounds awful. And your doctor sounds like kind of a jerk to be honest! String cheese sounds really good... especially super cold out of the fridge. I'm about to head out to stock up on some first trimester friendly foods. Before two weeks ago I basically always cooked everything from scratch (like everything, vegetable broth, tortillas, BBQ sauce, everything) and now I just don't have the energy or the stomach for all that. Going to get lots of cans of soup, rice-a-roni type things, frozen meals, etc. I can't keep eating PBJ and saltines for the next 6 weeks! Plus I find after about a day or two of eating something I develop an aversion to it. The first four PBJ sandwiches were great, then the fifth I just couldn't stomach.

@dominobee: Yeah, I really want to switch to another dr in her practice, but I'm not sure if that's allowed.

I'm pretty sure my daughter is made out of saltines and tater tots! Lol. Cheese sandwiches have been good for lunch, this time around (the little slider buns with mayo and cheese, maybe relish). I'll probably eat a baked potato tonight. I definitely have trouble with eating anything that has lots of flavor (unless it's a pickle). And cooking is difficult just because I don't have the strength. I feel like I'm doubled over most of the time. I cooked mac & cheese from a box for my daughter last night - for shame! Lol. But it was yummy and I added some roasted broccoli in there. You just do what you gotta do!

I have Kaiser so I had to call the triage nurse and they sent a message to my provider, basically told me to have pelvic rest and to keep and eye on it for next 24-48 hours. They said 25% of pregnancies have some spotting. I think I just really over exerted myself I should have known better, I hope it didn't do any damage

Well, the vomiting has begun for me. But, honestly, I felt a lot better after!!

    @Tionn3: I hope it's ok.

The only time my doctor really stressed the option of being seen (and even then, it was early so it was a "if you want to" sort of thing) was when I was bleeding bright red blood once. I ended up having a SCH that caused it and it healed itself...but I know how scary it can be to see blood. I hope you don't see any more.

Got to see my little bean today! Officially due February 4th, heart rate 173, and it looks like the placenta will be in the back, hopefully far from my c section scar.

    pear / 1553 posts

    @LadyDi: Hooray!!

@MaryM: I have a SCH as well, it was identified on my last ultrasound. No spotting or bleeding so hopefully it's small and will heal up on its own.

Also you guys, FRUIT LEATHER. Seriously. It's not just for kids anymore. Also broth-based soup has been great. Finally getting food that is not all starches into my body!!

Talked to the advice nurse and now I'm all freaked out. They basically told me they couldn't advise me to get on the plane for legal reasons and told me to go to the er . Now I'm waiting by my gate all freaked out I'm going to miscarry. I went to the bathroom but there wasn't anything on the to, I also didn't really go looking for it though. I'm sure it's still up there. Oh man.

  28. dominobee

    pear / 1553 posts

@Tionn3: But no cramping still, right? That seems like possibly an over-reaction on the advice nurse's part.

Is flying supposed to affect a pregnancy in some way? Seems like there would be a lot fewer female flight attendants if that was the case...

  29. dominobee

Last summer I was visiting my grandpa and he insisted that DH and I take home boxes of my and my brother's baby clothes with us. Don't ask me why he has them 30+ years later. But anyway, I just remembered we have all these super retro early 80s baby clothes in the basement and I'm kind of excited to dress our babies in them! Hopefully we have at least one girl. I feel like boy clothes look good on either gender but a lot of the girl stuff is pretty dang girly.

  30. MaryM

    pomelo / 5129 posts

@Tionn3: That seems like really odd advice...especially if you're not actively bleeding at the moment.

How far away from home are you? Is it a long flight?

  31. DesertDreams88

    grapefruit / 4361 posts

@Tionn3: That does seem like really odd advice. There's NO reason to go to an ER for 1st trimester vaginal bleeding unless there was a suspected ectopic or your OB was unavailable for 3+ days. I think you had an ultrasound already, right? So, no ectopic. I'm sorry if I missed it, but when will your OB be able to see you? The ER wouldn't be able to stop a miscarriage, just check on baby, and based on $$$ I would just wait the 2-3 days until you could get to see your OB. I'm glad to hear the bleeding has let up! Also, are you on any sort of progesterone? I think you were seeing an RE before?

ETA: Do you know what blood type you are? If you have Rh- blood & DH is positive, you'll need the RHOGAM shot within 48-72 hours after first sight of blood. But that combo is decently rare.

    These are amazing for nausea.

  33. CatchAFallingStar

    nectarine / 2809 posts

@Tionn3: I think maybe she was just concerned for your emotional wellbeing. Maybe she just wanted to make sure you had some reassurance before boarding a plane? I don't know. I think going to the ER seems a little extreme. It's not like you're having heavy bleeding! I'd probably just go to urgent care when I got home. They should be able to give you an ultrasound and help ease your worries.

    pomegranate / 3045 posts

@Tionn3: it seems crazy they told you not to fly and to go to the ER. I agree with everything @DesertDreams88: said; since it's not ectopic, there really isn't anything they colud do at this point, anyway. HOWEVER! This sounds completely normal for early first tri bleeding. Of course, it could be a miscarriage, but I imagine you just walked and danced a bit too much and maybe didn't drink enough water. I spotted on and off pink and brown when I was pregnant with my son, and everything was fine.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything is okay. Try not to stress! I know it's hard

@Tionn3: I'm hoping everything is well with you. When I had kaiser, the RE nurses were really comforting but I felt like the advice nurses erred on the side of caution a bit more than normal especially for patients who were seeing an RE. Hopefully all is well. Maybe you can message your RE's office to see if they can get you in tomorrow? I know my Kaiser RE office was open 7 days a week since I once ovulated on a weekend & my IUI was then scheduled for a Saturday or Sunday.

@dominobee: I'm a pretty petite person to begin with but my "baby belly" from LO & subsequently my loss in March hasn't gone anywhere. I think it's that coupled with the bloat & constipation that makes my belly look like I'm in the second trimester! 😒 I've already started wearing some of my maternity clothes again.

My new EDD is 2/15! Baby measured 7w4d with a heart rate of 164! My OB felt more positive with this one as the heart rate was stronger & I'm further along than I was at my first US for the previous loss. 🤗
