Survived the first PIO shot of this pregnancy. I'm not sure who is more traumatized, me or DH.

And I still get to give myself a shot in the belly (hcg) before bed. Oh the things we're willing to go through...

But I had a delicious dinner. Roasted eggplant, rice, sautéed potatoes. Lol

I made it back home without any further complications. Went to the bathroom several times and didn't see anymore spotting but I also wasn't digging around for it. Kaiser is just super conservative when it comes to legal stuff I think, I think they were worried something bad would happen on the plane. I hope it goes away. All the offices are closed till Wednesday unfortunately.

@MaryM: ugh, shots how often and how long through the pregnancy you think? I imagine the PIO will be dependent on test results? I think you've mentioned ongoing P monitoring?

  5. MaryM

    pomelo / 5129 posts

@DesertDreams88: do you mean prometrium? Lol

Yes. My doctor tests my progesterone level biweekly. I'm guessing I'll be on it in some form until 36-37 weeks (when they stop so you'll go into labor).

I don't really "need" the shots now based on the protocol (my level was normal), but my doctor is being super cautious. So I'm on two 100mg shots a week and 100 mg orally each night. Plus biweekly hcg shots through the first trimester.

ETA... if it stays really high, I think I'll be able to skip shots and do just oral or vaginal.

Caved and got Zofran today. It's helping but I still feel mild nausea. Anyone else planning on taking it?

@Tionn3: thinking of you and hope you can relax and not worry too much this week before your appointment

@Tionn3: FX it's just spotting. FWIW when I had a m/C at 7 weeks, it was undeniable. There was a constant flow and it was bright red.

@CatchAFallingStar: I have 4 doses left over from norovirus in March and I think I might take one tomorrow for a 4th of July party I'll be at. Thankfully I don't regularly drink, and I have a very loose swim top, so there won't be suspicious eyes! Zofran isn't covered by my insurance though It cost $80 for 12 doses I think back in March.

@CatchAFallingStar: I called early on but my office wanted me to try B6 and Unisom first. I've been taking the B6 regularly and it seems to me helping some so I haven't called back to get a prescription for anything stronger. I've thrown up several times but I think I've been managing the nausea pretty well and eating small meals throughout the day is helping too.

Just had a great idea for those of us going to 4th of July cookouts today and whose friends/family might get suspicious if you opt for fizzy water or soda over beer. Bring a can coozie! No one is likely to know what's in it. That's my plan for today. Just thought I'd share!

  11. petitenoisette

    pear / 1521 posts

@dominobee: The coozie is a good idea! my best trick is to get two of the same beers and have your DH drink both (just casually hAve him switch which beer he's drinking from). If you do this just one round, people will have seen you with a drink and will think nothing of seeing you later with just a seltzer or soda. I pretty much always drink socially so I've practiced this a lot

I ended up going to the ER last night after all. I was just freaking out too much about the spotting and I just wasn't going to make it to my Thursday appointment. It turns out they found a small subchorionic hematoma...which is pretty scary. I'm apparently at a slightly higher risk for miscarriage now. The doctor reassured me that it wasn't because of anything I did, and that the majority of the time the pregnancy continues as normal, and the SCH doesn't cause any problems, he told me the on call OB told him to emphasize that with me. The baby was ok too. The heart rate was 161 bpm, he said that was also very good, and that all my blood work looked good too. I think I will have to be monitored very closely for this pregnancy, and I was told to be on pelvic rest, and it might last the entire pregnancy.

@Tionn3: I'm glad you were able to be seen today & have a plan going forward. My friend had an SCH in the first tri (she was placed on pelvic rest as well for the beginning) & the SCH resolved itself by the time she entered the second tri. The downfall was that she had to tell work about her pregnancy before she was ready to announce.

ETA: my friend & baby are healthy & due next month.

    pear / 1553 posts

@Tionn3: I'm glad you and baby are ok. I have an SCH but no bleeding, though I am on progesterone which could prevent bleeding. My u/s tech & discharge nurse did not seem terribly concerned about it, so I'm trying not to be either.

  15. Tionn3

    kiwi / 680 posts

@dominobee: oh I didn't know you had a SCH as well. Yeah I think regular OB on Thursday will probably reassure me it's not a big deal and just keep an eye on it.

Glad you got some reassurance @tionn3 !

What is the diff between pelvic rest and bed rest?

I'll have to employ some drink trickery over the next few weeks. After months of no visitors, my BIL and MIL want to come over the next two weekends! If we have a good appt on Friday, I might be too excited to keep it a secret but I also don't want to tell anyone before we tell our son which I can't do until I'm ready for the world to know! Ackkk!

DH is taking our canoe out on the river tonight w/ some friends and their kayaks/canoes to watch fireworks. I'm a little sad I'm not going but I'm just so exhausted already at 8pm and I know I'll be falling asleep by the time fireworks actually happen. I just told my friends I'd been under the weather and didn't want to push it... while hanging out at a BBQ drinking seltzer. Yeah...

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@dominobee: we were at our lake house all weekend and I was surrounded by all the happy, drunk people enjoying the long weekend and fireworks. I could barely contain my annoyance I'm actually not sure I hid it at all. haha. I am really not that fun when pregnant and I am SO looking forward to being able to have a glass of wine in some 30+ weeks.

  19. jodyblair

@Tionn3: I also had an SCH with my second pregnancy. It was pretty big and I had some really heavy bleeding at 10 weeks. I thought for sure I was miscarrying, but the baby looked fine and the SCH resolved itself without any other problems. It's so scary to see blood during pregnancy, but I was told that unless the SCH is larger than the baby, it shouldn't really cause any problems.

    pear / 1553 posts

@bushelandapeck: That does sound irritating, haha!! I feel like summer is a tough time to be secret-pregnant bc there are sooo many social gatherings and so many involve alcohol! I did have two tiny sips of people's cocktails just to taste them which I'm sure warded off any suspicion.

  21. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@dominobee: it is hard! I swear at least 3 people asked me this weekend if we were planning on having more kids. So weird since my youngest is 2.9! Maybe it's because I'm not drinking but no one has asked about that yet. I have my first OB appt on Tues and hopefully we will hear the HB on the doppler. We told our families after that happened with my son but I want to wait until after our NT scan on 7/21 to tell anyone this time as I have this fear that there is going to be something genetically wrong this time around.

Add me to the list for scary spotting

It was pink spotting, and post sex, so I'm hoping that was the reason (guess we're not having sex again for a long time!)...but it still freaked me the eff out. Which in a way is odd, since none of my losses have started with bleeding

There wasn't any more bleeding this morning, so I'm trying to stay calm and wait for my appointment Friday (since I know my doctor isn't available this week anyway)

Wellllll I caved and told some people at the 4th of July party yesterday. DH and I had agreed to not intemtionally tell, but to answer honestly if we were really pressed for information, and we were... so we told. It was 4 of DH's work friends. We would be open about a loss, so I don't feel the need to hide, but it's easier.

Also, the NAUSEA. Ugggggh. I feel so gaggy all the time. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and had to wake DH to go get crackers and a mixing bowl and water and B6. Didn't throw up but so close. 5 more weeks??? Ugh. Thankful for "symptoms" but still.

@MaryM: so sorry about the spotting!! Understandably freaky but it sounds like it was due to sex like you said. It is honestly amazing that little embryos can survive sex, but they do. Friday isn't too far away! Thankfully.

@DesertDreams88: I told a friend who is 6 months pregnant yesterday at a 4th of July party. It's the first time I've seen her since finding out and I really just wanted someone to complain to who GETS IT! Hahaha.

That said I had a really good food day yesterday. I ate lots of broccoli salad, beet salad, pasta salad, one bite of a burger (and then was like "Nawww") and some pita chips and dip. The nausea seems to be really subsiding except in the mornings... which makes me a little nervous. But my sense of smell is still super sharp (today I ate an apple and I could smell dill on it which was way far away from it in the refrigerator) and the fatigue is still pretty intense. Looking forward to getting another peek at 7/19. My current fear is just that they... stopped growing. I don't know why that popped into my head but now I can't get it out.

The doctor gave me Diclegis for nausea - i took the dose thursday night and woke up friday feeling like i was drugged. they said they could make me tired.. boy did they. over the 4 day weekend I tried taking just half a dose and i didn't really notice a difference. So i decided to stop taking it. I'm learning that if i eat light meals.. salads/fruits/veggies i don't get as sick to my stomach. i'm finding the nausea is getting better.. i'm 8 weeks 4 days today so i'm hoping i'll be back to normal soon!

@MaryM: spotting is so scary sounds like it was probably the sex, though - your cervix has so much blood flow down there now that it is easy to get little bleeds here and there! It's so scary when you see it, though. Glad that it's stopped!

@Tionn3: glad you were able to see baby! I think drs tend to be very conservative about SCHs, but I know many, many women have had them, and have had completely normal pregnancies.

  33. Tionn3

    kiwi / 680 posts

@theotherstark: I am super nervous about the SCH, but the ER doctor seemed pretty optimistic and said it was small, and I have to imagine that if they had concerns or thought things wouldn't go well then they would be honest about that. I hope that it goes away soon. I'm still kind of sort of spotting today, and my OB appointment is tomorrow. I'm hoping the midwife will be able to answer my questions, now that I have them all written down.

@DesertDreams88: I'm having terrible nausea as well...like 24/7. It's odd because the only time it goes away is while I'm eating, so I'm eating almost constantly. Nothing ever sounds great to eat but once I start snacking then my nausea goes away temporarily. It's pretty terrible and I'm hoping it stops soon.

@Tionn3: so glad you get to have your questions answered tomorrow, I hope all goes well at your appointment.

    @dominobee: Gemini!!

Just for fun I looked up what early Feb's sign is-
    Aquarius
    Strengths: Progressive, original, independent, humanitarian
Weaknesses: Runs from emotional expression, temperamental, uncompromising, aloof
Aquarius likes: Fun with friends, helping others, fighting for causes, intellectual conversation, a good listener
Aquarius dislikes: Limitations, broken promises, being lonely, dull or boring situations, people who disagree with them

Tempermental, uncompromising and aloof...well this should be interesting!

@bushelandapeck: @dominobee: I know we're all thrilled to be pregnant, but yea this is the worst time of year I think to be due bc you have all the summer festivities and then the holidays with no drinking!

@MaryM: I had a teeny bit of spotting the last time we had sex too, and I agree it's scary! Glad it stopped, and I'm sure it was just normal cervical irritation. I really can't wait to get out of the check-toilet-paper every time I pee zone. Everyone else does thAt, right?

    @petitenoisette: every! time!

I'm officially at 6weeks today and I am dreading the full-on nausea. i tend to get lightheaded and when i feel sick i snap at people. i feel bad because i'm already snapping at my LO too much but come on, kid, mommy just needs no screaming and jumping for two minutes!

i had a rough day at work and my mantra in my head was to just make it to Friday at 3:30! that's my appt time and I'll feel so much better just knowing if this is real or not!
