@mrstricycle yum, i love sweets perfect solution!
i'm starting to wonder if i've been having pain-less contractions, my entire stomach was super hard for a bit earlier and i just happened to notice because I was putting my seatbelt on... is there such a thing??

Had my doc appt yesterday, I am 3cm dilated and 80% effaced. That is a little progress from a week before but I know I shouldn't get my hopes up.
great question on the main board @Meggo5 about pumping! I'm really confused by the whole bf plus pumping thing. I haven't even opened my pump yet and dont have a clue how to use it. Am I supposed to have all my bottles and storage supplies washed and ready to go before baby comes? Pump right away or wait until a couple months down the road? What is everyone else doing?
I am still figuring out how to use all this baby gear, slowly getting my hospital bag together. Just read Happiest baby on the block this morning and am planning on reading my bf-ing book again...I feel like I'm studying for a test, hah.

@JessLC: I feel like I'm preparing for a hug final examination, but that I don't know what the date is!
I have no idea about pumping and when to start, clean things, etc. I'm not too worried about it. I have the pump and accessories at my house and anything else can be ordered on amazon or I can ask my husband or mother to go to BRU, which it only a 10 minute drive away. Unless I'm having supply issues I probably won't try until 3-4 weeks in. I want to try my best to breastfeed my little one. I'm sure by a month or two I will want to begin introducing a bottle because I'm going to have to go back to work eventually and he will have to take a bottle by then.

@scg00387: yes - a lot of BH contractions are painless, or so my doc said. Sometimes I only notice because my stomach gets funny shaped and lopsided, like it is squeezing and I can see the outline of baby. But no pain.
@ChelseaRose: haha, yes exactly! Perfect analogy. OK well I'm glad that you don't have a clue either I was thinking I'd start pumping a month or two in as well, unless bf-ing isn't working for me.

Showers are done! Got so much loot.. and then ran to Target to burn up the gift cards have a few more for Buy Buy Baby that I'm going to use this next week to get the last few things.
We don't have any bottles but I'm going to try to EBF so hopefully we won't need them right away.
Do yall have a lot of disposable diapers stocked up? We've got two cases of newborns and two packs of wipes. Might need to snag a few more in NB and size 1s...
honeydew / 7687 posts
@jesslc ah! that makes sense. and makes me feel less nervous that I'm not having.
My pediatrician said to have the pump ready to go and bring it to the hospital so they can help you figure out how to use it and get your supply going, so I'll be doing that (but I need to go buy it soon!)

@scg00387: I don't know -- but I was wondering the same thing

Speaking of BF-ing . . . There's some leakage happening over here. I hate to admit that I'm totally grossed out by it, but DH keeps pointing out that it just means all the "plumbing works" and it's a great sign. Not convinced.
Also -- did you see the thread earlier today about when to introduce a bottle? A lot of ladies seem to agree that nipple confusion isn't a "real thing" and that introducing bottle sooner rather than later is a good thing.
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@highwire: we have a big box of size 1s and less of the NB's in case baby is big. I think the range of size in terms of pounds overlaps for those sizes. We have a gigantic box of wipes too. Glad that ur showers went well!
@scg00387: that's a good idea to bring it to the hospital. I don't even want to open the box because there are so many parts and it just looks confusing. Hmm. I bet I could look up some YouTube tutorials on how to use it just in case.

Did a bunch of tests at my 35 weeks appt. Negative for group B strep..yay! Really low in iron so I have to go get it via an IV sometime next week. My own fault for not taking my iron pills as often as I should but I hope the iv helps because I'm nervous about how a bunch of blood loss at birth is going to feel if my iron stores are extremely low. I'm thinking that might make me feel horrible.
honeydew / 7687 posts
@mrstricycle I did see that thread.. I find the whole thing confusing, to be honest - same with pacifiers. I'm going to try and stop researching it and just see what feels right:/
@highwire yay for negative group b! hope to follow suit... and I hope the IV iron makes you feel great I'm sure it'll boost energy, right?
We finalized the 7 houses husband is going to look at on Monday... hoping that one of our favorites looks great in person and the whole thing goes smoothly! It's been a nice distraction from baby stuff to stress about house stuff, haha. It will be so nice to go from a 600 sq. foot apartment to a 2000+ sq. foot house, holy cow (although the furnishings will be a little sparse for a while), especially with all the baby stuff piling up.

Does anyone else feel like when they do X, that it could be the last time they do X before you have your baby? I felt that way at Costco today. I don't go weekly and I couldn't help but think that I may have a baby by the next time I go there. Also, the couple behind me in the checkout line had three week old twins. So cute and tiny!
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@ChelseaRose: Yep! We just got back from visiting my in-laws, and I was like "well, next time we come out here we will have a baby!"
honeydew / 7687 posts
@highwire thanks! i'm nervous to be alone temporarily but can't wait to hear what they looked like in person
@chelsearose yes! i thought that when we went out to lunch this past weekend... the anticipation is starting to build for me and I am only at 35w
persimmon / 1161 posts
@highwire: I felt like that the last time I went to my best friend's house. Sh lives almost 100 miles away so I don't get to visit too often.
@scg00387: I am going to be 38 weeks on Wednesday. I can't help but think that this could have been my last weekend without a baby.
Also, I only have two more weeks at work!
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
@ChelseaRose: I keep watching the expiration date on the milk as it gets closer and closer to my due date. Hubby did the grocery shopping this week, but I have a feeling we might have the same 1/2 gallon in the fridge when the baby arrives!
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
And I suddenly have lots of free time! So much for my plan to work right up until labor begins. At my sonogram today, one of the baby's measurements was borderline low -- the abdomen is almost two weeks behind the head measurement, which can be an indication that the baby isn't getting enough nutrients/energy. It's not "officially" a problem yet, but the dr thought it was important to take steps to prevent it from becoming a problem.
Apparently the more energy I exert myself, the less available to the baby. Sooo....I'm down to half days at work (she initially said no work, but I must have looked panic stricken, and she changed her mind) and then I'm supposed to sit on the couch when I'm home. No making dinner (though she said I could microwave leftovers), no cleaning, no exercise, nothing that requires me to be on my feet for an extended period of time.
This is so not my MO. It'd be easier if I felt crappy, but I still feel really good, so it's hard medicine to swallow.
Anyone else on semi bed rest?
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: not by doctors orders, but I feel so messed up that I basically have to be resting at all times. I'm not a fan!!! Wish I had tackled more of my to do list before my body fell apart lol
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
@highwire: How about we trade? You can have my doctor's orders and I'll keep working for you.
honeydew / 7687 posts
@mrs.tricycle I feel pretty good but pay for it the next day with intense pelvic pain if I am up and doing stuff.. so I'm on self-administered semi-bed rest That stinks though! I hope you can find some things to occupy your time.
@highwire I have thought often that if I could talk to 2nd trimester me, I'd tell her to get stuff done already!!
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@scg00387: seriously! Feeling the nesting urge when you cant move around is torturous. I'm attempting to do it all remotely like hiring a maid and doing Xmas shopping online

I've been trying to rest as much as possible, but nothing official. I stopped working out after having high bp readings so I'm taking it much easier these days.
I think mamamoose was or is on kinda on bed rest other than work.
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
@ChelseaRose: You are correct ma'am but only until next Monday!! Then I get all of my privledges back and I come off all my medicines and baby is granted permission to come when he/she chooses. YAAAAAAAAAAAAy.
honeydew / 7687 posts
@mamamoose yay!
I am now officially past the point where all 3 of my nieces, my sister, and myself were born in gestation age at 35w... I hate even contemplating going into labor early because I know if I end up going past 40w I'm going to be kicking myself for entertaining the idea or spending any time worrying about it!

@mrs. tricycle: thinking of you<3
@mamamoose: hoooray!!
I have my next checkup tomorrow morning. Wanting to expect nothing, but at the same time wondering if I've progressed at all since last week... less than four weeks... THIS IS CRAZY.
I've been having dreams about contractions. Wonder what they'll actually feel like? :T
honeydew / 7687 posts
@mrsjyw isn't the anticipation awful!! hope they have good news for you
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@scg00387: I'm starting to get antsy!! Seeing all the Oct mamas makes me want it to be Nov soooo badly!! I'm sure it'll be here before we can complain (too) much about it though!
When are y'all working until?
I've sort of started my "leave"... I'm only in the office Wed (for a big mtg) and Fri (for my work shower) and will be working from home until L&D! Trying to figure out what to do to fill my time instead of counting the time til L&D!
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@mrsjyw: last day is 11/16 and have to be in the office full time in dressy clothes and showered every day until then.
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: I just saw your post above. So sorry you're having to be so restricted. I feel quite certain baby tricycle just has a big noggin : ) but better to be safe than sorry! At least you know that no matter what it won't be too long of a stint on bed rest! Keep us posted.

@highwire: Good luck with your IV! I'm also anemic and my midwife recommended floradix since I hate taking iron pills. I'ts great! You have to get it at a health food store or online but so far I've had NO side effects.
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: Yikes! I'm so sorry! Hope you can get some rest. I'm curious why you got a sonogram at this point?
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@mrsjyw: I think I'll work until my due date, then tell them I'm on bed rest/working from home... I don't want to constantly hear the comments from my coworkers!

Last week I started on Red Raspberry Leaf Caplets and Evening Primrose Oil caplets... anyone else?
Red Raspberry is supposed to "tone" the uterus to help it contract better and minimize blood loss, and evening primrose is supposed to help you dilate faster. Once I get to 39 weeks I'm going to try using the evening primrose "down there". Hoping all this will make her arrive on time, but who knows
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@kml636: I'm going to wait until next week (I'm 36.5 right now), but plan on doing the same!
Just got back from doc appt, no cervical check today. Negative on the GBS! And just normal hb, bp, pee test, etc.
Doc says baby's probably right around 6.5 pounds. And that I should expect to go closer to my due date but that he'll see me either at my wkly checkups or the hospital whichever comes first!
Hoping these next few weeks FLY BY.
Work is starting to wind down, I think my boss is worried about me going into labor any minute that she's lessened my workload already even though I plan on working for the next three+ weeks. (I work around client deadlines, so she has a backup for my current projects to close on time if I do end up in L&D!)
