Hey Nov 2012 Mamas!

Ahh - thinning, engaged? This is getting SO REAL @mrsjyw.
I had my GBS swab last week but wasn't checked... I don't think the midwives in my practice do it at the weekly appointments unless you ask for it. Part of me is so curious to see where I'm at and if there's any progress to show for this cramping and cervical pain (and new lower back pain?) but then again part of my whole 'plan' was to avoid checks and/or not be told progress since I don't want to get my hopes up or worry that things aren't moving along.
I have an appointment tomorrow and it's going to be really hard not to ask to be checked.

And as of my last appt. at 36 w 3d I was up an even 30 lbs. With 4 weeks to go I am crossing my fingers I will keep my gain below the 'recommended' 35 but I am doubtful because lately I have been so hungry! Constant snacking, second helpings... and we've beeing eating less healthfully since we're trying to get out on dates while we can and are eating at restaurants. I'll update again after my appointment tomorrow. I seem to gain 1-2 lbs between appointments which was fine when they were 2 weeks apart, but now that they're 1 week I don't want to go crazy. Mostly I am not worried about myself and the weight, but that it will mean a bigger baby who is harder to push out! I was 9 lb 10 oz when I was born and I just keep thinking, "be smaller than your mama little girl!". And hoping she comes on-time rather than late to keep her from getting even bigger at that point too.

@mrsjyw: Same. I'm trying to focus on the fact that I don't think I look like I've gained that much weight...so hopefully that will help keep me from having another meltdown about it. And FINALLY, my doctor happened to not give me a super hard time about it and said it might be some water weight, and that baby is the perfect size right now, not too big.

@travelgirl1: Oh my gosh, so exciting! Hope you get baby to turn. Any updates in that department? Tried any new things?

@lindseykaye: My recommended weight gain was only 15-20 lbs since I was overweight to begin with and that totally didn't happen. I was on perfect track during the whole first half of my pregnancy basically, and then for whatever reason, the last 2-3 months have been ridiculous in terms of weight gain and I've gained 3-5 lbs every since week lately.

Did the GBS test this morning. Wasn't the most pleasant thing on the planet, but it was over in less than 5 seconds so no big deal.

Doctor also took another blood draw since the last time I was pretty anemic. I have been doing a piss poor job of taking my prenatals and iron, so I'm expecting a lecture LOL.

I don't know what changed in the past few days, but I've been getting awful heartburn. It is making me so uncomfortable.

@highwire I've been bad about remembering mine too You're not alone!

@chelsearose that stinks I haven't had any heartburn but the past few weeks I've had nausea again.. I thought that was just for the first trimester! Not cool.

What is left on everyone's to do list? I think the only thing I am prioritizing is getting the monitor set up and buying a breast pump - after going back and forth I ended up getting the angelcare one with the movement sensors so we need to figure it out.

For non-essential stuff I want to finish an embroidery project for the walls and practice swaddling & cloth diaper prefolds.

@scg00387: Here's my list at this point:

    -Clean out fridge and freezer
-Finalize mailing list for holiday cards (need three more addresses!)
    -Cook and freeze meals
    -Get car inspected
-Re-organize kitchen cabinets and pantry, master suite (might have to give up on this one!)
    -Finish the nursery
-Finish packing my hospital bag (although I started last night!)
    -Schedule pre-natal massage
    -Get cleaning done at dentist
    -Finalize legal documents
-Finish holiday card preparation (address and stamp envelopes, will mail out after newborn pictures are done!)
    -Decorate for the holidays
    -Order holiday gifts online, wrap
    -Finish buying baby items
    -Get beauty treatments done (hair/nails/waxing)
-Finish baby shower thank you notes (have one more shower on Saturday)
    -Vote
-Order maternity prints (waiting on photographer to finish editing)

But, my due date is at the end of the month, so I'm trying not to freak out at the length of this dang list and am working on it daily!

  9. immabeetoo

    honeydew / 7687 posts

@highwire we have a month and a half, no reason to freak out!! I sent for a mail-in ballot last week; they were promoting it for whatever reason and sent me a reminder that I could so.. I thought gee that seems way easier Maybe that'd save you some time to do the same! Good call on the cars, I want to get both of ours cleaned out really well before baby gets here.

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@scg00387: I'm already practicing telling myself not to freak out if everything on the list doesn't get done. Very little of that is vital and I even left things off there that we definitely DO have to take care of...like installing the car seat. But we have a class scheduled for that so I know we won't forget.

I think it will make me sick if I sit down and write out a to do list! The only major MUST do items left are to pack the hospital bag, get the car seat installed, and wash baby's clothes. Im actually in the hospital right now because I was having bleeding and back pain. And I was freaking out about neededing to finish those things. But cervix is closed and though I'm having some small contractions they are stopping with medicine. So it doesn't sound like I'll be having a baby today. Phew!

My list is (only now) pretty short... for me! Just a couple weeks ago it was much longer so no worries to the ladies who have lengthy lists! Or for ladies who LOVE lists like me and tend to make really long ones. It's calming, I swear

    Essential:
Get husband to set a time to get his vaccinations (flu/tDap)
Go back through all the handouts we've gotten during our education classes and organize/refresh before labor
Pull together info on adding baby to our Insurance after she is born
Make any changes to our benefits during open enrollment (which is right now)
Fill out absentee ballots that are sitting on our desks and mail in
    Order breast pump from Amazon
Re-address our thank you cards that got returned to us after the baby shower
Get on my MIL and mom about sending me addresses and emails for announcements
Go on another date (or two) with my husband

    Non-essential:
Wipe down the inside of the freezer (fridge got done last week)
Hair appointment (made for this Saturday morning though, so I am pretty sure it will get done)
    Paint artwork for nursery
Frame aformentioned painting and hang last four things
Assemble swing and pack 'n play (not too early or else they become cat beds) but this can be done after she comes home if needed
Do one more load of baby clothes laundry/hang (gifts from most recent shower, waiting until after Friday when our final shower will be thrown at my husband's office)
Buy any remaining supplies (again, waiting until after this shower on Friday)
Pull together CD's I might want to listen to during labor, burn anything I might want that isn't already on CD.
    Vacuum the car
    Clean the porch
    Dust EVERYTHING one more time
    Freeze more meals
Organize files and file away baby stuff warantees, receipts, etc.

In the next couple weeks, I think I'll get it done....

@MamaMoose: awww rest easy! thinking of you and baby!
@lindsaykaye: my cramps haven't gone away... i think baby is getting big and ready! :O
@highwire: you look great mama and as long as dr isn't concerned i don't think you have anything to worry about! i've been really bad about prenatals this last month :T....

sooo i'm constantly fighting off cramps and feeling baby all over my belly!.... this next month needs to fly by!!!!

  15. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@lindseykaye: UGH why did your thank you notes get returned? What a bummer.

  16. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@mrsjyw: Agh I'm having intermittent cramps.

I'm debating over whether or not to go to prenatal yoga tonight. I've been so SORE and uncomfortable lately that crawling around on the floor and doing a bunch of yoga poses sounds like it is going to damage me LOL . But maybe it will help? And I'm also really embarrassed to be sporting these sausage feet in class and stupidly brought leggings to wear that show them off as opposed to sweat pants which are long enough to hide them...

  17. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@highwire: prenatal yoga will probably be good for you. They say changing positions often can help relieve cramping!

  18. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

Anyone still DTD with their SOs? We definitely have not since our babymoon a couple of weeks ago. I'm semi nervous about it putting me into early labor and DH is totally uninterested for whatever reason (hoping it is the same reason and not something else like how I look physically - gah!)

Hoping to get a little magic going again once we are a little closer to the due date and putting me into labor would be a blessing for all.

  19. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@MamaMoose: The cramping isn't what is bothering me so much as the excruciating hip and back pain! All of my prenatal yoga classes in the past have seemed to aggravate those areas as opposed to help them so I'm kind of nervous to get back into class again.

  20. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@highwire: hhmmmhh. Is the class structured in a way that you would feel comfortable leaving if it was hurting you instead of helping.

  21. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@mrsjyw: thanks lady! I can hear the nurses talking about someone they want to admit for 23 hours. PRAYING that person is not me!

  22. mrsjyw

    GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts

@highwire: LOL yea right. It's been over a week now and esp after yesterday's cervical check-- DH is back to being "afraid" of hurting the baby!

  23. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@MamaMoose: Yes, I could probably do that (but I might feel bad!)

The chiropractor visits have started to really help, so I think I might take one more week of treatments there and then head back to yoga next week...DH and I have done pretty well this week with walks, so we can do another one of those tonight and I might just do a few poses at home so I can quit as soon as I feel like it without guilt.

@mamamoose eek! hope they don't need to keep you and it's just a tiny scare rest up!

@highwire you're not alone. he's a foot taller than me, and now that my stomach sticks out about a foot it is just.. logistically difficult and I'm already exhausted to begin with. Fortunately he is being a good sport about it.

@MamaMoose: I hope you get some rest and baby stays put for a little while longer. I forget when you're due and if it is more towards the beginning or the end of the month. I'm due at the beginning (37 weeks today) and told baby he is welcome to decide to come anytime he wants.

@highwire: There has been no DTD in this house for quite a while. Oh well. I'm thinking I may need to initiate it soon if I ever want this baby to be born. I haven't been going to yoga for the past couple of weeks and I don't think I will make it back before baby. I've been using my yoga ball at home and doing some stretches though.

Thanks for the thoughts ladies. Turns out I have a UTI that was causing the bleeding and contractions. They sent me home with antibiotics and I will probably take tomorrow off to rest.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one with a list as long as my arm!
We have soooo much to do in the two weeks we have left, it's unreal. We've had family staying with us for two weeks so have not been able to do anything at all. We don't even have a crib/stroller yet! Plus I have to write a load of freelance holiday gift guides before baby comes, as well as my regular job. Anyway, it will all get done.

@MamaMoose: Sorry about the UTI, hope you feel better soon.

Anyone else have ankles/feet like the Nutty Professor? Mine are seriously disgusting.

  33. ChelseaRose

    persimmon / 1161 posts

@travelgirl1: My feet get like that at times. Most of the time they are only a little swollen, but depending on what I've been doing they get to be very large and puffy. I pretty much wear either flip flops or my gym shoes (New Balances). I find they swell less in tighter shoes, so I do wear my gym shoes to work at times.

@mrsjyw: How was your meet and greet with the pediatrician? I don't know if there is going to be a group of people there or if it is just going to be us tonight...not sure if I should prepare a list of questions or just wing it...

  35. lindseykaye

    pear / 1992 posts

@travelgirl1 - for the last two nights my feet and ankles (and calves really) have been more swollen than they have been yet during this pregnancy! I think it's mostly from sitting all day at work, then coming home to stand and cook dinner right away. So by the time I'm sitting down to eat and relax afterward they're ridiculous! I plan on taking some more time to put my feet up between getting home and standing to cook from now on.

I pretty much just wear ballet flat style shoes so they are comfy even with the swelling but I had to get inserts like @mrs. tricycle because my heels hurt SO BADLY.

  36. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@travelgirl1: Yes. My ankles have rolls at the end of the day...

  37. mrsjyw

    GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts

@highwire: it went really well about an hour or so. it was just us, because it was at the end of his day... and we sorta winged it, i knew there were topics we wanted to discuss: his office hours, when he sees sick patients, vaccinations, etc. but we didn't want it to be stiff -- so between the two of us, we just made sure to bring up each topic if he didn't do it himself (which he actually covered a lot!) we actually like him a lot and i think i'm going to cancel or reschedule the meeet and greet we have today because it's dh's bday! good luck!!
