Okay, so the LO is asleep in my arm (not the crib!) so I will one handily type out his story!
My water broke at 1030 on Saturday and we headed into the hospital after a little freak out on my part. We got there and I wasn't contracting so they said they would start my on pitocin in the am. Quickly became apparent that wouldn't be necessary! By 12 I started having pain in my hips which I realized was a contraction. We walked for a bit and our doula showed up. Around 1 we went back to the room to be monitored and it started really coming on. My contractions got to be about 5 min apart right away, then 4 then 3, and sometimes just back to back. It was all back and hip labor. Silly posterior boy!
So around 4 they checked me again. I was 2cm when we got there and 4 hrs of strong, consistent, frequent contractions got me to.....2.5. I cried. I had really wanted to labor until transition before getting an epi. The doula agreed I had already tried everything. Hands and knees, sitting in the toilet, ball, jacuzzi tub, counter pressure (DH and doula spent so much time applying pressure!) so I asked for the epi.
At this point my contractions at least stopped being back to back and I could breathe through them again. Breathing really helped! I recommend it!! It took the anesthesiologist about 40 min to get there and 20 min to put in the epi. At that point I had gone from 2.5 to 5,5-6! Things were moving fast. I couldn't wait for it to kick in and get some relief. The anesthesiologist asked if my legs were numb yet. Not even tingly.
About 1.5 hrs later it finally kicked in. It had taken the edge off some contractions, but I definitely still had to breathe through them. Half an hour after that though,..,it started to wear off again. My nurse said she had never heard of an epi not working for back labor, but the anesthesiologist swore it didn't. I just had really sharp pain in one hip for a while, so it was manageable.
By 8 or 9 I was 8.5 and at 10am my MW said it was time to start pushing. I had wanted to labor down but she didn't want to give me any more epi since I was already maxed. I was at 0 station so baby had a long way to go! At this point, my epi was mostly worn off. I had feeling everywhere, but it was hard to move.
Pushing was the hardest. My hip ligaments just killed me and it hurt to pull them back. Every contraction I felt only in my hips. Nothing helped it and the pain really made me want to die. Everyone timd me to think of the baby, but all I could think of was not being in pain.
Two and a half hours later, the MW said the over seeing OB wanted to try a vacuum delivery. I really wanted it, but she said to get it another half hour. I hated her then. But I also realized I was getting dangerously close to needing a C. I pushed the head out about 15 min later. It burned some, and I think my epi was still somewhat effective there, but to be honest, it was the easiest part of labor. (The final push out that is). Getting his shoulders out was the best feeling in the world, although I did tear.
He snuggled on my chest for two whole hours afterwards. It was amazing. I can't recommend skin to skin right away afterwards enough. I just wanted to hold my son! The pain went away instantly. He didn't latch on right away but we are working on it with a nipple shield. We take him home today! He is a little bloody in this pic, but has the sweetest lips!

@allison: For future reference, check the eyes on the pineapple. If they are all the same size, bottom to top, you've got a ripe one! Learned that from Alton Brown on Iron Chef.

@jedeve: Thanks so much for sharing your story! I've been getting sokme pains in my hips along with my contractions - I thought it was just baby pushing on them or something. Had no idea you could feel contractions in your hips! Little Eugene is so sweet!

@jedeve: congrats on your little man!
I'm thrilled to FINALLY have an update. Our little (big) girl arrived at 12:45 this morning via c-section. Not the natural birth I had hoped for, but she is a wonder. I'll write up a birth story when we are at home.

@allison: 39 weeks today and she's still inside! My curiosity won out though and I did get a check. 1 cm and 80% effaced. Something is happening which is good but I'm not expecting anything soon!

@coacheswife123: nope. i've been having BH for 6ish weeks, but nothing different recently. i was expecting her to say nothing was happening at all. i've been drinking raspberry leaf tea for the last two weeks and now that DH is home more regularly, we'll be employing some other methods to get things moving. off for a 4 mile walk now!

@birdofafeather: my BH are horrible at night. My stomach is like a rock! Cannot believe you are at 39 weeks- almost time!!!

@coacheswife123: @birdofafeather: my BH feel like they're near-constant at night now. At least, every time I wake up to pee, my stomach's rock-hard.
I forgot that last night I had a dream my water broke and was disappointed when I woke up and it wasn't!
I'm drinking 2 cups of raspberry leaf tea a day now, too...

Anyone's BH burn ??? Kind of hard to explain but when it happens my bump gets hard and literally burns Especially on top !
grape / 89 posts
@Allison- I'm still here too at 39+2!
@coacheswife- yes! I have the burning too on the top. I think it is either from skin stretching or blood vessels breaking....at least that is what it feels like to me. I am having BH almost constantly at night too. Annoying!

@littlebug: @coacheswife123: @birdofafeather: @dagret: @Kffw: I don't feel so alone now! Thanks, y'all.
So, last Friday when I went to the dr, the scale said I had gained 5 pounds since the previous week. I was not thrilled. So I came home & weighed myself on my scale, noting what it said (though it was lower than the dr. office one). Just weighed myself again and it's almost 5 lbs more than last week! WTF?! Have I really just gained 10 lbs in <2 weeks? That can't be right...
I mean, I have been indulging a little more in sweets cravings, but otherwise I don't feel like I'm eating more. I'm not really swollen. Where is this weight coming from, and where is it going?!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4007 posts
@allison: I gained about 7 between weeks 34 and 36. Interested to see where I clock in tomorrow !! Don't worry - its almost over!! Then we have to lose it all. Waaaah !!

Had an appt tonight. Still only 1cm and 50% effaced. Induction scheduled for Thurs 1/17; we'd go in Wed night for Cervidil dose. Obviously hoping to go before then, but it is nice to have a definite end in sight!

@littlebug: nice! Not much longer, now!
@coacheswife123: yeah... I've been reading on here about everybody doing 30 day shred and I'm already dreading it. I'm so undisciplined when it comes to weight loss! I'm just hoping it'll all just magically melt off.
I'm trying to decide how long I'm willing to go before getting induced. My doctor "likes" to induce after 41 weeks, but she has told me that it's ultimately up to me. Which I really appreciate and it's one of the reasons we chose her. But I just assume I'll go into labor around my due date, if not before. What if I go 42 and still nothing? Big decision. Anyone else willing to go over the 41 week mark?
pear / 1895 posts
@coacheswife123: I've tried it a couple times. I can't ever get past the first level! And I couldn't even walk the day after I started it the first time. I literally had to scoot down the stairs on my butt because my legs were so sore. So I definitely believe it works!
pineapple / 12053 posts
@allison: I am willing to go to 42 weeks and will push for it (my docs start talking induction at 41 weeks) as long as I stay healthy like I have been this entire pregnancy (barring the lovely flu this weekend). I am sure of my O date so I feel comfortable going that time frame since 40 weeks is just an average of full term 38-42 weeks. I still feel good too so I'm hoping to keep up the good vibes. I think mentally I planned for at least a week or more past my due date since my mom was 2 weeks past EDD with me and one week past with my bro and my sis. So I'd be surprised if she came before next week. I'm acting like she could come anytime, but I really think mentally I'm not ready. I even made a waxing appt for 2 days after my EDD. I think I got cocky with that one, but we'll see.
It's so lovely to see all these babies being born. It's helping me realize that, oh yeah, this is my month too! But it's really slow settling in. Maybe when that settles in, that's when she'll decide to show up! Anyone else not mentally there or are we all ready for these little ones?
