@Sams Mom: Uggh yeah. I'm super thankful to have 2 totally healthy kids. I can't even remember what made me high risk both times besides having GD, but it was always something with the bloodwork and/or placenta!

@graceandjoy: #pregnantbrain, I had polyhydraminos (a lot of extra fluid) at the 31 week.

I had some bleeding early on in this one, but nothing else weird, so hopefully I make it through the next couple scans without any extra stuff.

@Sams Mom: I hope so too! I feel like all I do now is go to appointments lol.

@graceandjoy: What cord issue do you have? I have marginal cord insertion. Sounds like it's usually nothing to worry about, but of course I'm a little worried. Dr said it can sometimes limit baby's growth and lead to low birth weight.

    pear / 1565 posts

@kayla0416: I guess the cord is supposed to have 3 arteries/veins or something, mine only has 2, so just have to do a detailed heart scan plus extra growth scans. That was my non-medical understanding of it anyway!

I told the dr it's funny that I always seem to have growth concerns, but then once I was diagnosed with GD, then the concern is baby would be too big. So which is it, lol!

@graceandjoy: Ok, I think I've heard of that! Hopefully it doesn't cause issues and you just get to see the baby an extra time or two!

I've always had to have another ultrasound after 20 weeks too. The first was for "marginal previa" (placenta was right next to cervix), second was for choroid plexus cysts (sounds way scarier than it was), and now for marginal cord insertion (cord is connected right at the very edge of the placenta). It makes me wonder how many women DON'T have anything show up on the 20 week ultrasound that they want to look at again. It seems so common. With my first two, I was in the majority in that the issues resolved themselves. Hopefully this time is the same!

@kayla0416: Yes let's hope so! I totally wonder sometimes too whether the tech that does the scan make a difference in finding certain things.

@kayla0416: my son had a choroid plexus cyst too, pretty large one actually; but thankfully resolved itself.

@Sams Mom: hey baby girl!! I’m so excited for you! What does Sam think?

@Jessiemuller88: first he was excited, and then he pouted all the way home because he couldn't hold the baby.

O, and she's already so long they couldn't get a head to toe shot of her in the view of the ultrasound 😂

@Sams Mom: big girl! That’s pretty cute he wants to hold her. Nate asks when the babies are going to “pop out” everyday 🤣

When is third trimester again? 28 weeks+? Or 27? I'm having a brain fart.

@jaguar: I’m pretty sure it starts during week 28. I can’t believe we are almost there!!

I think third tri is 28 weeks, which I start Thursday! How did that happen so fast?!

I am going in for my GB labs tomorrow, wish me luck!

I'm sorry to read all the US scares, hope the monitoring goes smooth and babies continue to grow healthily for everyone!!

I am starting to feel really large and heavy at this point. Ughh need to get more walks in even though my hips are starting to hurt. I know its like the one thing that will make me feel better but sitting still is also nice ha ha.

@honey786: that’s awesome you are in the third tri this week!! Not long to go at this point! Are GB labs the glucose test? If so, I’m doing mine tomorrow too! Good luck!

I feel ya on the heavy feeling. It’s so hard to bend over these days! It’s been hard to motivate myself to exercise too. I hope your hips feel better!

@Jessiemuller88: oops, yes I meant GD or glucose test. My afternoon is really quiet at work so I thinking of just popping over now and getting it over with so I don't have to go in the morning. Thanks and good luck to you too!

I just heard that the polar vortex is predicted to be particularly severe this year, with an extremely cold February on the east coast. Ugh, I'm going to lose my mind if there's a long stretch where it's impossible to get outside for stroller rides....

  28. Sams Mom

    grapefruit / 4492 posts

@periwinklebee: I'm concerned about that too. I live in the Midwest, so probably not as severe as the east coast. BUT I had an April baby with a great spring, so I'm testing to decide if I need to invest in a bunting or carseat cover or anything like that.

Yes, I already started mentally preparing for a frigid winter. We had several days of closed daycare last winter due to -30 to -40 windchills. I've already assumed its happening again this winter. Which means my darling 2yo will be joining me at home on those closings. The only positive is that we aren't in a pinch to find care since I will already be home. I also started looking for sensory bin toys and other indoor activities for winter.

I already got my glucose results and I am in normal range! Woo hoo. My hemoglobin is slightly lower (11.8) than normal range so I am not sure if they will have me do anything about that.

While I waited the hour to get the lab work done, I called insurance and they basically told me that we are really close to meeting out of pocket max this year. Which means, birth could be covered 100% IF he comes in December. What are my chances? Due date is Jan 2... I was 6 days early with my first. I know its impossible to guess, but its wishful thinking/hoping!

My OB just let me know he doesn't want me going past 39 weeks (which falls on Jan 2nd) ... so I'm wondering if this baby might end up being December too? Who knows, hey? I always take due dates with a grain of salt.

@Sams Mom: For us it was one of our most useful baby possessions. But LO was a January babe, and the only places he would sleep were on my boob and in the stroller going over bumpy sidewalks (as soon as we hit a smooth sidewalk, he'd wake up and scream 😂 ) When I needed a break from the round the clock nipple shredding, my only option was to bundle him up in the snow suit, put him in the carseat with the bundle me, and head out for a walk... Fortunately the snow suit was gift and the carseat cover wasn't too expensive...

@honey786: @jaguar: I'm due around Christmas but pretty much assuming this baby will be late like her brother and show up in January... And in the realm of slightly annoying pregnancy remarks people make, I have had so many people ask when I'm due, and when I say Dec, commonly respond something along the lines of "well don't have the baby too close to Christmas because that would be a lousy birthday." Thanks, I'll take that into account when I decide when to pop her out 😂

@periwinklebee: Yah, because we really have SO much control in this whole thing, hey?

  33. Jessiemuller88

    clementine / 973 posts

@periwinklebee: people and their comments 🙄 my c-section is Dec. 27th and I have gotten nearly the same exact remarks. Ugh- just say congrats people.

DS was born in August, so I am not at all prepared for winter babies.

  34. periwinklebee

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

@Jessiemuller88: people are pretty negative about winter babies (again, people and their comments...), but I actually liked it. We still got outside a fair amount for walks, and it's much, much easier to bundle an immobile newborn than an older and less cooperative baby. And by the time summer came around, LO was old enough for sunscreen and swim diapers, and wasn't bf non-stop around the clock, so it was easier to get out for some summer adventures...

  35. graceandjoy

    pear / 1565 posts

@periwinklebee: Uggh I just read about that the other day too (I'm in NY). I'm just nervous about a snowstorm when I'm in labor!

I've had 2 winter babies already (Dec), so I'm used to being stuck inside for most of maternity leave. I don't know any better so in my mind I'm not missing anything lol

@honey786: My 2nd was due 1/5 too I think and she came 12/20

  36. graceandjoy

    pear / 1565 posts

@periwinklebee: Totally a big yes on the old enough to put on sunscreen/do stuff outside for winter babies! My two girls are Dec babies and their first summer was always amazing because we didn't have to worry about shielding them from the sun, and also they've started solids by then so absolutely getting a break from around the clock bf-ing. I thought it was great timing! And the next summer they were around 18 months and able to enjoy a lot more too.

@Sams Mom: I am also in the Midwest and had a June baby but still got so much use out of a carseat cover in the winter. We used the Skip Hop one and it was great because I didn't have to worry about dressing her up and her seat would keep her cozy.

I agree so much with all the winter baby comments here! It will be perfect timing for summer fun, without the constant nursing and worrying about the baby overheating and shielding from sun. My sister is a December birthday (near Xmas) and she turned out just fine! :P)

I need middle name suggestions for Hazel. Our last name starts with an S and ends in son.

Bonus points if it starts with a K (husband's request)

@periwinklebee: I’m actually looking forward to winter babies for all the reasons you listed! It was miserably hot when DS was born and we were stuck in the house for a while! Plus bundled up babies are so cute and snuggly 😊

@Sams Mom: I love the name Hazel! I’ll brainstorm some middle names today.
