@spaniellove: it is so exciting that you can feel movement! We only felt movement from the outside last week, at 26 weeks, and I've probably been feeling baby since about 23 weeks or so. DH felt baby move for the first time last week. Hope yours gets to feel him soon!

@spaniellove: nah, I bet it's baby. I just have an anterior placenta, so it took forever. Feeling them from the outside is the best

What's new June mamas? Anyone else have their anatomy scan coming up? Mine is Friday - we're still firmly team green so no gender news, but still excited to see the LO
I've been feeling ok pregnancy-wise...I had a nasty bout of the stomach flu this week and was completely out of commission for about 24h. I started to worry that I would actually throw up my baby since I was retching so much. But no, LO#2 is still there and moving, so I guess we both survived unscathed! The good news is, DD had it first so I didn't have to worry about getting her sick, and my mother was here to help me. I don't know what I would have done if I got sick when I was home alone!

@Chastenet: Our anatomy scan is on Jan. 31. We have had two guesses for boy so far, so that is what we are expecting the official to be. I have a regular check up today and she did a quick ultrasound the last time, so hoping for another one today to get a peek.
Feeling pretty good. Sleep has been difficult lately. I just can't get comfortable. I would love to sleep on my back, but I have found that I can get short of breath and I am too paranoid to really relax that way. I have a long body pillow, but I have found that my back hurts more in the morning when I use that, so I just sandwich myself between two regular pillows. I try to switch from one side to the other a few times a night, but still have a sore lower back and hips in the morning. My best mornings are when I managed to keep something supporting my belly most of the night.
Has anyone else figured out a good sleeping position?

Our anatomy scan is Wednesday! Can. Not. Wait.
Sleep has been a challenge for me too. I haven't been too uncomfortable yet, and don't seem to notice a difference between being on my back or side. But I have been having problems waking up between 3-4 and not being able to go back to sleep. This morning I laid in bed from 3:45-6am. And of course we're in the middle of a large tiling project in our kitchen so I couldn't even go downstairs and fiddle around.

I've missed so much lately! I've been so sick the past couple of weeks and its really taken a toll. So far DH and LO have not caught it, and I *think* whatever I have is finally going away. Not sure if anyone has used a neti pot, but it is my new best friend
So glad to see all the good updates and yay for upcoming anatomy scans!! Ours was last week and baby looks great! We're sticking to our team green status, and luckily we have the best U/S tech who always tells us when to turn our heads and is very careful when talking about baby so she never drops a "he" or "she". I'm still on the fence about predictions, last time I knew for certain it was 2 boys and 1 girl, this time I'm stumped! My family is convinced it is a boy, so we shall see.
Sleep has been awful for me lately, as if being pregnant isn't uncomfortable enough I have to lay a certain way to be able to breathe out of my nose! I have the Boppy Custom Fit Total Body Pillow, which I used throughout my last pregnancy. It's helping, but I don't sleep on it like the picture suggests. I usually just lay it under my belly for support instead of cuddling the whole thing.
Now heading over to the bump thread to see all the beautiful bumps!!

Hi ladies!!! I am so out of the loop and have so much to catch up on. Hurrah to all the ladies who had their scans! We have ours scheduled for Wednesday - DH and I are super excited to find out and to tell DD what is in my belly. She tells us she thinks it's a boy. Baby's intuition?
Sleep has been good but I feel like my bump is getting big at a much faster rate this time. I also got a little reminder at my 15 week appt that I should try to be more conscious of how much I eat because I am apparently gaining too fast? 12 lbs @ 15 weeks which IS a lot more than when I was preggo with DD but I have been eating healthy for the most part. =\ So I've joined the gym a block away and will be getting back into swimming twice a week, hopefully help increase activity and also build some muscle.
I didn't know there was a bump thread - going now too!

Sorry to hear of all the bugs people have been catching! It is NO fun, but most especially when you're pregnant. I had a stomach bug right before Christmas and it was really scary because I was afraid I was going to get dehydrated and end up hospitalized (or worse!). Hoping the flu season is drawing to a close soon…
We have our anatomy scan scheduled for the first week of February. So far away!! Can't wait!! We're leaning towards boy….
Sleeping positions are a pain (literally). It seems like as soon as I find one that works, I've got something else aching and have to move around again. Bleh. Oddly, I think on my back is the most comfortable and I move to that position in my sleep, but I wake up with nearly a dead arm because it's cutting off circulation.
@littleveesmommy - Swimming is the BEST exercise when you're pregnant. I did it 2-3 times a week with my first one and it felt great (especially when you get into the third trimester). I'm hoping to get a routine going here within the next few weeks. Could use some muscle tone and the frog kick is great for stretching tight hip muscles.

When I first found out I was pregnant, I had many theories. Most were useless, but one has worked out in my favor. I thought that if I trained myself--traditionally, a stomach sleeper--to sleep on my left side early enough, I would be able to stick to the position later on. I do toss and turn, but thankfully I mostly sleep on my left side. Sometimes I rearrange my pillow collection in the night to take pressure off my shoulder or hip, which do get painful, but so far this has worked for me.
Tomorrow is our anatomy scan! Although we already know the gender, my DH has never seen much beyond a heart echo, so he is really excited to get a longer and more detailed look at the baby. Good luck to all of those who are also getting their anatomy scans this week!

@meesker: so glad to hear about your great scan and the baby girl! Sorry to hear about the fibroid troubles. I've been there - had a huge one about 6 years ago that was removed with abdominal surgery - so I'll also be having a c-section also. Not my dream situation either but ultimately it's most important to do what is safest for baby and mom right? The upside for a planner like me is that I already know the date and time baby will arrive

@LaurelMae: @Duckling: I feel you ladies on the restless sleep - just can't get comfy! I am trying really hard to sleep on my side but I wake up and my arms are asleep and my back and hips hurt. Between that and getting up to pee 2 or 3 times a night I am not feeling very well rested.
My anatomy scan isn't for another 3 weeks, but the doc just called with quad screen results - normal! Yay! One worry to cross off the list.
Today was also the first time anyone has asked me if I'm pregnant. I still haven't told people at work - though I plan to in the next few weeks - but a co worker asked if there was something I wasn't telling her I played dumb., but it was so awkward . I guess I am starting to show. I've been able to hide it pretty well so far. I guess the jig is up!
Can't wait to hear about all the upcoming appointments!
persimmon / 1472 posts
@CakeLady: I know what you mean with the jig being up! I haven't told work yet at almost 17 weeks (was bad timing and now waiting until next week) but my bump is there. I've been wearing loosey goosey clothing to try and "hide" it but like you said, the jig is up. I think people notice but just aren't saying anything haha.
@LaurelMae: It definitely is! I swam some with my first and loved being in the water. Very much looking forward to feeling free in the pool. Is there anything else you would recommend too besides swimming?

@Chastenet: @Duckling: Good luck to you with your anatomy scans today! I hope they go perfectly!
Our anatomy scan is Monday. Although we know the sex, I've been told many times that cleft lip/palate is a major risk with my meds so they'll be looking for that.
I've been sleeping with the giant u-shaped pillow, but am thinking of getting something that supports my belly better because I'm starting to wake up at night with pain. Is RLP different later in pregnancy than, say, 8-9 weeks? Like in the beginning it was low in the groin but does it move up? I'm wondering if what I'm feeling now is another warning that my belly is growing.
cherry / 175 posts
@littleveesmommy - The only other exercise I've really 'enjoyed' while pregnant is pilates (and sometimes yoga). It feels really good to stretch and slowly tone up a bit. It is very complementary to swimming too.

My doc scheduled my anatomy scan for 22 weeks, I just cant wait that long!! (18 weeks now) Thinking about scheduling an elective scan for next week Other than that, starting to feel more and more movement! Hope you all have a great weekend! I'm sure my toddler has plans to keep me on my feet, ha!

Can we go back to something that was touched on a few weeks ago?
We have 3 bedrooms-master, J's room and a guest room/office. All are a good size. I assumed that since I am not working anymore, we would convert the guest room/office into either a big boy room or the new nursery and each kid would have their own room. Hubs is INSISTING that we keep our guest room and queen bed (despite only having people sleep in it maybe 10 nights a year. Actually my mom probably uses it the most, but she only lives 1 hour away and his family lives on the other coast).
For those who are having your toddler and newborn share a room, how do you see that working, especially with sleeping and naps? The baby will probably stay in our room for 3 months and maybe a little change (we kicked J out after 10 weeks), but I would like to use the crib for naps sooner than later and would hate to wake up J with middle of the night feedings.
What do you think about making the queen bed J's "big boy" bed on a low bed frame with rails and each kid has their own room? The only thing that concerns me with that is that it will leave very little space in his room to play or have much of anything else in there.
I think it's more important to have our kids have their own room when we have the space and sacrifice a guest room until we have a bigger house, but hubs seems to feel strongly about this. I'm just trying to see the other side, but hoping he'll come around. Any ideas?

@spaniellove: Thanks!
The anatomy scan went great - Dr said baby is looking very good and they see nothing to worry about or that would warrant any further ultrasounds.
As far as sleeping, I don't have issues getting comfy - it's DD who's causing me to lose sleep! First she was sick with a cold, then she got the stomach bug, then I got the stomach bug and now the past few nights she's been waking up very needy and wanting to come in our bed, and once she's there she still wakes up and cries. It's strange and we can't figure out what's wrong...I'm hoping it's just a phase because I'm tired!
@BabyBruins: I haven't got the whole room-sharing and sleeping/napping thing figured out yet but here's what I do know (all hypothetical of course since we haven't tried it out yet): LO#2 will sleep in our room until at least 6 months so DD's nighttime routine won't be effected at that point. Then, I figure LO#2 will go down first and we'll put DD down maybe 30m later so LO#2 is fast asleep. DD is going down pretty easily now and I'm hoping that over the next year it stays that way. As for naps, LO#2 will have the room for most naps, the only potential overlap is the afternoon nap, maybe for those I put LO#2 down in the pack and play in our bedroom? I guess it'll kind of depend on the timing of their naps, and that's really something we'll need to work out when it comes time. DD naps from about 1-2:30 or 3 now. But she used to have a morning nap around 10:30 and then afternoon around 3. I don't want napping kids from 1-4pm or our entire afternoon is shot! So I'll need to get LO#2 on a nap schedule with a bit earlier afternoon nap and potentially a third cat nap for awhile. Fingers crossed LO#2 is a champion sleeper - one can dream, right?
kiwi / 673 posts
@BabyBruins: I'm stressing about sleeping arrangements! Like you, we have 3 BR and our third is currently our office/guest room. DH is also insisting we keep this room the way it is and have the kiddos share LO's current nursery. We kept LO in our room until she turned 1, so I'm really not sure what to do. I think it all depends on LO #2's sleeping habits. LO #1 is a terrible sleeper, and always has been. She did best co-sleeping, so that's what we did until we bit the bullet and decided to try moving her to her crib in her room at 13 months. Two months later and she's still not consistently going down easily, STTN, etc. But it's working so far, with multiple MOTN wakings/putting her back to sleep. I just don't know how this will be feasible with them sharing a room. I know realistically LO #2 will be in our room for a while (again, not sure if it will be as long as our first, just depends on how he/she sleeps), so I have time to keep working with LO #1 on her sleep and hopefully we'll get to the point where we can do something similar to @Chastenet: with staggered sleeping. It's all too much to think about right now, so I guess I'd rather just go with it and if it's terrible then I can tell DH we're taking away the guest room!
honeydew / 7916 posts
@BabyBruins: I don't have much to offer that could change your husband's mind since our LO isn't even here yet, but I remember reading something once about how worthwhile it is to put aside a room to use as a guest room a few days a year when you could be using for something else every day. If J having his own room would make your life easier than whatever you would gain from having a guest room, I might vote for that.

Hi June Mama's! Anybody not feeling the baby kick yet? I keep thinking that I have, but then I won't feel anything for 2 days, and then I'll think I feel kicks again. Oh my, pregnancy is so confusing sometimes!
honeydew / 7916 posts
@Mrs.Ham: You probably are feeling kicks! That's how it was at first...I didn't feel it again for a few days...then again for another few days. Now it's daily (ironically I felt a kick while reading your post!), but what you described sounds pretty accurate!
kiwi / 673 posts
@Mrs.Ham: I bet those are kicks! Or at least movement it's very sporadic in the beginning, so you won't feel it consistently everyday. It'll get more frequent and then you'll be able to tell exactly when that baby is moving. You could also try eating something sweet or drink a glass of OJ and see if that makes the baby move more, usually settles my mind if I'm worried!
pear / 1657 posts
@Mrs.Ham: I am in the same boat - thought I felt something moving around a few days ago, but nothing since. I have now convinced myself that it was just something non-baby stretching out or shifting around. No definitive movement yet, I'm just shy of 18 weeks.

@CakeLady: Yes, I hear you! I am about 17 1/2 weeks right now, too! Can't wait till we can feel those babies every day!

How are everyone's nurseries coming along? Or maybe I should ask, are those nurseries coming along?
Our nursery at this point is a room with the flooring and closet torn up...I've gotten used to living in a construction zone. In a couple days they'll install the floors and put new doors on the closets that open out! I got so tired of fighting with the sliding doors that I begged DH for something easier.

Hi ladies! I missed you all! Have been so busy at work lately and no time in the evenings to catch up. We had a big week with our 20 week ultrasound. It was simply amazing to see our baby boy moving around and to know that he is healthy. We got several good pictures of his tiny fingers, feet, and profile. (I'll have to scan and post some soon!).
We signed up for baby/birth classes at our hospital. We know spring is going to be very busy for DH, so we decided to go ahead and do them in mid-February. I hope it's not too early. I am going to sign up for their "Finding a Pediatrician" and breastfeeding classes to do on my own later in the Spring. The only other one we need to schedule is the infant CPR.
Our nursery hasn't progressed really. I did choose two paint colors that I am going to buy samples of and see which one I like best, but that is the only change in the past few weeks.
I really want to start calling day care centers but haven't had time during the week. I found out that one of my good friends has a cousin who may do in-home child care. She isn't sure if she still does it or not, but I am excited about that possibility!
I think I first felt movement around 18.5ish weeks. I wish I knew for sure when I felt it, but at the time, I didn't know that it was the baby. Like many of you, it went away for a few days and by the time I felt it for the third time, I finally realized it was the baby. I was excited at my ultrasound to confirm it. Now I am feeling him often. It makes me feel more connected to him and I am talking to him more now, too.
I am now 20 weeks and 3 days. I can't believe I am half-way through!!!

That post was getting long...
I have a regular check-up with my OB tomorrow (my ultrasound was with a MFM specialist). I feel I should have more questions or those check-ups should feel more productive. I think the gestational diabetes test is the next big thing. The MFM specialist said it would be around 24 weeks. Pre-pregnancy, I expected to be more worried about GD but since I have not gained much weight, I am not concerned right now. (I was overweight to start, so I am hoping to only gain around 15 lbs total.)
People are starting to push a little more for the baby's name. They have all been close friends and family and it's not bothering me yet. We have a short list, but I am just not in any rush to decide. I think part of my hesitation is that DH and I mentioned different names in our last conversation about top choices. I don't want to have any conflict about it yet. And for now I am just mulling our choices and trying to see if one fits more than the others. I have virtually no middle name opinions right now.
How are you all doing towards any of these items?
kiwi / 673 posts
DH got to feel baby kick this morning!! I got up early for my 100th trip to the potty and when I got back in bed baby was moving a lot and I could feel the movement with my hand on my belly. I woke up DH and he was so excited! Then he rolled over and went right back to sleep

@Mrs.Ham: with DD I didn't start feeling her kicks until around 24 weeks! This time I started feeling them at 16 weeks. I would describe it as gas bubbles. Hope you feel your LO soon. It's the most awesome feeling

@beachbee: That is so exciting! I can't wait for DH to feel movement!

It's fun to see that so many are feeling movement. Congrats, everyone! My DH felt the baby for the first time this week. He was so excited. I'm sure the rest of you will feel it soon!
No nursery planning will happen for a while for us since we are going to move in the spring. Also, I've found myself focused on the high-risk aspect of the pregnancy so I've been too distracted to get into much planning. We received discouraging fetal echo measurements this past week--but we're hoping for the best (that this baby's heart will reverse course!).
On a more positive note, this really awesome coworker passed on a document that she inherited when she had her first baby. It's a collection of mommy wisdom from other FTMs, reflections from their experiences. She and the previous three owners of the document all contributed advice about registries, labor, delivery, bfding, etc. Pretty great!

@Duckling: I'm really hoping your results get better! It can be so tough.
We had our anatomy scan today and LO is definitely a boy. It was a bit frustrating though because he's fallen from the 40th percentile to 14th and the MFM said they're not going to do anything unless he falls to the 5th percentile, even though my neuro has mentioned many times that IUGR/low birth weight is a concern with my meds. And they agree that I need to raise my dosage, which I know will only interfere more with growth.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@spaniellove: I'm glad that it went well! I'm sorry about the IUGR, though. I hope that baby boy keeps growing.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@LovelyPlum: Thanks...it's not the biggest surprise but I'm just trying to figure out what to do about the MFM practice not getting how to handle it since I went in being at risk.
olive / 65 posts
@spaniellove What about getting your neuro involved? Is that kosher? I use specialists and doctors that are all part of a heavily tech-saavy hospital/medical system. They interact via digital records all the time. If that's not a possibility, I'd look into getting a second opinion. Thanks for your thoughts too. I am hoping for the best and trying to prepare for the rest.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@Duckling: I need to call her office anyway for the dosage increase (actually have been trying all day) and have been thinking of asking if she can insist that I get the extra growth scans. At the very least she can give me the name of a MFM she recommends. And I remember when I started TTC she gave me some nutrition tips so maybe she can help me put together a plan.

Thanks ladies for the room sharing advice. I think hubs may already be coming around and mentioned having J move into the queen bed next which isn't terrible.
@Chastenet: I have always felt that our bedtime routine has really helped J sleep, so I will of course try it with the new baby, too and it involves books and reading and prayers and lullabies. I just can't wrap my head around how I will do that with one kid already asleep. Also, naps for #2 will have to be TOTALLY different. I held J for almost every nap until we did sleep training. This one is just going to have to get over it. Another reason why I would rather use the crib sooner so the crib can be associated with sleep.
@beachbee: like you, we have some time to figure it out since the baby will be with us for a bit. And I like your attitude, if hubs doesn't like it, tough. They will realize its not working and be willing to make a change. Off topic... Are you in CA? What "beach" does your username refer to?
@spaniellove: good point about using the room everyday vs a few times a year. Already that room is getting less use now that I'm not working. We have even closed the heat vent and had to spend a day and a half heating the room when hubs brother came after New Year's.
Hope everyone is doing well. I got to hear a strong heartbeat at my last appt and have my anatomy scan at the end of next week! I also scheduled my glucose test for Feb.12. I got GD with my last pregnancy so I'm expecting to get it again. It really wasn't that bad. I was eating better than I ever have and that is when I felt like I started "glowing". I have lots of food ideas if one of us ends up getting it. Believe me, NOT the end of the world. But I totally cried when I got the news.
olive / 65 posts
@spaniellove That's a good idea! When I began thinking about pregnancy, I got fetal care and OB/GYN recommendations from my specialist so that I could be assured that they'd talk with each other should the need arise. (I've also picked out a hospital system I'd use as a "second opinion" one, if needed.) I'm very passive, so getting another doctor on my side gives me more courage.
