I am embarrassed to post this, but I failed my 3 hour test and I now officially have GD. Again. I know it is not the end of the world, but I am more upset than I thought I would be. It just kind of takes the fun out of everything and I feel like the rest of pregnancy is just going to be a chore. I know pregnancy isn't supposed to be fun and games, but its more stuff to worry about and I'm just afraid that this one will end the same way the first one did and I don't want that. It makes me feel like my body isn't good for pregnancy.
I know I could be eating better and this will help get me on track, but again, its just a hassle and throw in a toddler to the mix and I just don't want to deal. Its hard enough feeding him, now I get to obsess about my food too.
I'll have my pity party today and then get over it, but darn it!

@BabyBruins: such a bummer! :(. I'm sorry about the diagnosis, but definitely don't feel embarrassed. I know so many people who've gone through GD and the rest of pregnancy went ok. I have my test in two weeks and I'm dreading it. We may end up having to share recipes

@BabyBruins: How are you feeling today? Maybe this will distract you a little...I got the bag and love it! You were right that the handles are long enough. With all the stuffing they put in it they stand straight up and I was disappointed at first but they flop over when the bag is emptier. I've been looking for the perfect black diaper bag for ages and can't thank you enough! Plus it's not too frilly so if I ask DH to hold it for me he won't look ridiculous.

@BabyBruins: *HUG* don't feel embarrased! I know it's a bummer but it's a good thing you know and can plan accordingly. You are going to take great care of that baby while in belly.

@kentuckygirl: @avivoca: @beachbee: @littleveesmommy: Thanks ladies. I know it's nothing I did and more to do with my genetics (my brother and sister have type 1 diabetes) but I wonder if I had been a little more disciplined with my diet earlier in the pregnancy and been in better shape when I got pregnant that I could have avoided it. But I'm back on the horse and will be eating lots of veggies and lean protein from here out. I'm also trying to focus on what happened with my last pregnancy - that I felt physically good on the diet and I think it helped me lose the baby weight really fast ( I put it back on, but I looked pretty good about 3 months PP). I just hope I can control it well like last time. I monitored my first meal and was over the limit. Boo.
@spaniellove: so excited that you love the bag. I'm leaning towards the grey color, but now you are making me think about black. Did you get leather or nylon? I don't think I can justify the price for the leather. After trying to cram all of J's sippy cup, snack cup, diaper/wipes, sweat shirt and book into my purse yesterday, I'm thinking I need to buy it soon. And I'm in the mood for some retail therapy

  12. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@BabyBruins: I got the nylon! After returning a patent leather and a regular leather bag because they were too heavy, no way was I buying another leather diaper bag. I love the black but grey was pretty tempting too! Just think of how great you will look with that bag after your hard work on the GD diet...

@babybruins -- Sorry to hear about your GD diagnosis! Although, like you said, it will help you stick to a healthier diet and perhaps lose the baby weight sooner. I know it's a pain doing all that monitoring, though, so sending many good thoughts your way!

Hey all. I hope everyone is doing well. I was looking over our due date/sex list this morning. Has anyone heard the news from @owlmom: @lollipop: @peacockblue: @lilibillie: @matcha latte: @mrs.ham: or @mrs ranunculus: ?

Time has really gotten away from me since the first of the year. I think I need to get on signing up for birth classes ASAP. Not sure whether to look into a Bradley Method class or just go with our hospital class. Any suggestions from others who have done it?

  15. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@MsBadger: I've been wondering about some of our June moms too. I hope everyone is doing great! Have you found a Bradley class near you that starts soon? I think they're 12 weeks, which was part of the reason I chose not to take the one near me.

How is everyone doing symptom-wise at this point? I have to confess I don't think I had that magical second tri but at least I might be turning a corner with the nausea. Real food is starting to sound (and smell) good again.

@spaniellove: I'm taking prenatal yoga, and my instructor mentioned the Bradley class in town. I had no idea, unfortunately it may have already started but she said sometimes the teacher will still take people. I'm waiting to get an email from her with the info.

I'm glad food is starting to sound good to you again! I was feeling pretty good up until last week. It's hard for me to get comfortable now and I get these numb spots which drive me nuts below my ribs. He also must have switched positions enough to put pressure on my bladder. My urge to pee no longer coincides with the amount I actually pee lol. It's like, "I came all the way to the bathroom for this?!" Fun stuff

@MsBadger: Hello! I need to get back in this thread asap! Time has been flying by, huh? Well, I'm having a little girl and my dude date is still June 17th. A little less than 4 months to go. Crazy!

    How is everyone?

@MsBadger: Wow! time has certainly flown and I can't believe in less than 4 months I will have a baby boy to hold! I definitely need to take time to go back and update myself with this thread!

I am sorry I haven't updated much, while my pregnancy is progressing well, DH and I have also been dealing with the stress of an ill family member. We ended up even having to take some time off of work to fly to Japan to see his family. Being on a plane for 14 hours while pregnant (with horrible MS) definitely wasn't fun. We have been back for only a few weeks and are still trying to get into the routine of things. We have gotten our crib assembled and I'm on to making some fitted sheets out of some cute fabric I ran across. Is anyone else planning on doing some crafting?

  19. CakeLady

    pear / 1657 posts

@LiliBillie: June 17th is my birthday! Yay!

@Matcha Latte: That sounds like a tough trip - a flight to Japan can be uncomfortable even without being pregnant and having morning sickness. Sorry to hear about the family illness, that can be so stressful.

I have a few craft projects in the works - curtains and a throw pillow.

Time really does fly - in less that 100 days baby cake will be here! We did the second anatomy scan and baby was much more cooperative. We saw its face and the tech switched to 3D mode - super cool, I think it has my mouth and nose We made it through two anatomy scans and still Team Green, though now I am dying with curiosity. It doesn't help that everyone asks if we know what we are having.

On the downside, I have been feeling really under the weather the last couple of days, there was definitely a bug going around at work or it maybe a sinus infection. To make matters worse I had jury duty today and of course I got picked to sit on a jury. The trial is expected to be 5 days! Who picks a sick pregnant woman to be on a jury?

  20. BadgerMom

    persimmon / 1385 posts

@Matcha Latte: I am so sorry about your sick family member. I can't imagine spending that much time in an airplane seat right now.

@cakelady: Oh man, good luck with jury duty.

I'm doing some crafting. I lined the dresser drawers with fun feather print paper and I'm making the mobile below. I've gotten all the birds sewn and stuffed, now I just have to wait for the snow to melt to find some sticks. At this rate, that may or may not happen before June...

We're going to Ikea next weekend to get the crib and chair, so after that I will actually be able to start putting the room together. I'm super excited!!!

I think I usually have a pretty strong nesting instinct, but I tend to get myself into projects and then never finish them, but this pregnancy nesting actually gives me the motivation to follow through (at least where the nursery is concerned)!

@LiliBillie: It's so good to see you back here and congrats on your girl!

@Matcha Latte: I'm so sorry to hear about your family member...the trip must have been quite an ordeal for you. Are you feeling better these days? I wish I knew how to sew! I even have a sewing machine and can't seem to take the plunge.

@CakeLady: It must have been so amazing to see your LO's face in 3D! I hope you get better soon and have a better experience than you're expecting on the jury. I served on a jury for a week and although the case was difficult (an authority in the community had molested children) we really bonded over it.

@MsBadger: OMG you made those?! They're beautiful! You're crazy talented.

This is a little TMI but...is anyone starting to have boob leakage? I've suspected it for at least a month or two now but now I know it for sure. Yikes.

  22. CakeLady

    pear / 1657 posts

@MsBadger: That bird mobile is amazing! I am so impressed you are making it.

@spaniellove: While I have not experienced any leakage yet, a friend of mine who is due mid-April told me she recently started leaking colostrum. I think it is totally normal, just a weird change to experience I expect!

Turns out I have bronchitis, I was feeling so terrible I went to see my dr. early this morning. I am out of jury duty but also out of commission for a few days. Oh well...

Hi June mamas! Sorry I have not been very active on here but it's been fun to follow along! I'm very impressed with how much progress everyone has made on their nurseries (I've done nothing beyond registering!). My pregnancy has been going well so far with no big issues. I'm 25 weeks and have gained 20 pounds, though, so I'm a little worried about how much I'm going to gain in the next 15 weeks!! Yikes! How is everyone else doing with weight gain? I've also been having some heartburn which is annoying. Beyond that things have been moving along - we are going to meet with a prospective pediatrician next week which will be nice to have that sorted if we end up liking her. And we will start childbirth classes in 2-3 weeks. It seems like things are really speeding up!

  24. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@Alexandra603: Welcome back! I am right there with you on the weight gain...18-19 lbs at 24 weeks. And afraid of what the next 16 weeks might bring. I've been hoping to be able to get outside and walk, but there was no chance of that with the ice we had in February. Hopefully it'll all come off afterwards, right?

@CakeLady: OMG, hope you're feeling better soon!

I had an appointment today and met with the midwife in the practice, which was nice. We put it in writing that I'm BFing, attempting a natural birth, and not circumcising so they can support me at the hospital. And we scheduled my GD 1 hour test for 3 weeks from now, what fun.

Hello, long time no update from me. I'm 26 weeks now and we confirmed at the anatomy scan that we are definitely having a boy. I saw the midwife this week who went over the ultrasound results and baby was growing on track but they also noted echogenic foci on his left ventricle (which is sometimes a marker for Down's or other chromosomal issues). My midwife said it's probably nothing since no other markers were noted during the ultrasound, but because I'm over 31, they offered a Level 2 ultrasound, which I am going to take. The hospital should call in the next week or so to book the appointment.

I didn't do any IPS bloodwork to test for chromosomal abnormalities and in the absence of any other soft markers I'm really hoping all is okay.

Symptoms-wise I'm holding up well. Just the usual aches and twinges associated with my growing self hehe!

@msbadger We took Bradley classes with our first one and would absolutely recommend them. Even if you aren't sure about going completely natural (I had two doses of Fentanyl while in labor with my first because I was so exhausted from the intense labor that I needed a break to gain some strength for pushing -- not sorry I did), it is great to know techniques you can use to deal with the pain of labor and also help it progress well. Also, it is very empowering for your partner to aid in the labor process, not to mention, helpful for you as well when they are doing things that actually help you. We loved it!
And that's a beautiful mobile!! Nice work!!

We're not doing too much different with our nursery since our girls will be sharing a room and it is already decorated for our first. My biggest hurdle right now is transitioning our LO out of the crib and into a big girl bed before #2 arrives. Probably should get started on that soon!
I knitted a baby blanket before I knew I was pregnant (turns out I was during the time I was working on the project!), was going to give it to a friend, but decided to keep it for our new little one. I would like to make a little hat to go with it. I have a few friends who are giving birth over these next few months so I have receiving blankets to sew and caps to knit, and will hopefully get one or two things in for my love too!

Symptoms-wise, I'm having the worst time with varicose veins. Did with my first too.

At my appointment on Friday, the doc said that my ultrasound showed some 'fairly usual' echo-cardio abnormality on the heart so I have to go in for another. Making me a little nervous….

I can't believe how long it's taking us to do this nursery. Part of the problem is that we're trying to renovate all three smaller bedrooms along with the bathroom at the same time, and the closer we get to the due date the more we have going on. Family members want to get together, I have a bazillion appointments, and I am very much regretting signing up for classes. As expensive as the classes were...is the hospital childbirth class worth it? And the breastfeeding class? Because I didn't find the baby basics class useful at all and I'd give anything to have the day free instead.

  29. lilyann

    nectarine / 2878 posts

@spaniellove: The only reason why I found the breastfeeding class helpful was because the LC's from the hospital I was delivering at were hosting the class. The classes were small, maybe 5 other moms so we got to know the LC's pretty well and the same ones helped me after I gave birth so I already felt comfortable with them. Did the class help me with breastfeeding? Probably not...but it did help me get familiar with the idea of breastfeeding.

  30. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@lilyann: I've found the classes at this hospital to be pretty impersonal and huge - so big that they have to split the group up into two rooms. And I'm wary of the LCs because everyone seems to love their experience at this hospital but hate the LCs with a passion! I'm not sure how I'm going to sit through a 5-hour class this weekend when I was already super uncomfortable after 3 hours in that chair.

  31. lilyann

    nectarine / 2878 posts

@spaniellove: I really think there is more info on HB (or internet in general) than what you will learn in the class 5 hours seems way too long! I wouldn't do it.

  32. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@lilyann: After reading a bunch of reviews...I think I'm going to skip it! I've already been to L&D twice and everyone says the labor class only prepares you for a c-section.

Hi June mamas! Been kind of absent on here for a few weeks, but I just read through everyone's posts and happy to hear all the updates!

I'm finally past my icky phase, woo hoo! I did not think it was going to end but finally around 25 weeks I started to feel better. I am still down 5 lbs, but i think now that im feeling better the weight will come

I am 27 weeks now and had an u/s yesterday, everything looked great and we even got to see the baby in 3-D. That's a plus for going to a MFM, they have awesome technology and can do a scan at any appt it was amazing to see baby's face, the little button nose, eyes, etc. so surreal!

I have my glucose test next week, blah. My office only does the two-hour test, so I only have one shot to pass. I failed the 1-hour last time but passed the 3-hour, so I'm nervous to be limited to one test! But oh we'll, I know it's not the end of the world to have GD.

I'm definitely in nesting mode now. I've been trying to tackle one room at a time and de-clutter /organize as much as possible. Our LO's will share a room, so no new nursery, but I'm trying to toddler proof our nursery since we're hoping to move LO to a floor bed before baby arrives. @LaurelMae: please let me know how you're transition to a toddler bed goes! We really need to get started with that, but I've got to finish proofing her room first

Hope everyone is having a good week!!

  34. BadgerMom

    persimmon / 1385 posts

@beachbee: Just so you know, from what my doctor told me (she also does the 2 hour test). The 2 hour test is SOOOO much more accurate than the 1 hour test. People fail the 1 hour test left and right and then have to take the three hour and pass. Whereas the two hour test has the about the same accuracy as the three hour test anyway. So I'd look at it more as skipping the 1 hour test and going right to the much more accurate 3 hour. Instead of being limited, you're actually going skipping right to the accurate test!

Hi everyone. Just read back a few pages since I haven't had a chance to be on here much. Being a full time working mom of an almost 2 year old and pregnant is hard work! So fun to see all the sex results. We are still team green.

Had an anatomy scan 2 weeks ago and everything looks great. Have the 2 hour GD test next week. After that, there isn't a whole to do until the end. We are really not doing too much in the way of preparation. We have tons of supplies already and I plan to carry the new baby for the summer before it starts daycare with its older sister, so we will hold off on a double stroller until then. Have a rock n play that it will sleep in for a few months in our room. They will later share a room so we might get a mini crib until we transition the older one out of her crib. I see no reason to transition her early since she doesn't seem ready yet at all. So we are waiting and seeing on that. Otherwise, there is not much else to do. I have been super hungry that last few weeks and craving sweets like crazy. Feeling good otherwise.

Hope everyone is having a good second tri before the real aches and pains and heartburn and pregnancy insomnia kick in!

I am glad to hear everyone is hanging in there. Our baby has reached the end of the fetal heart defect/block danger zone (yay!). Normally, this would mean that we stop weekly visits to a fetal specialist. Except not yet. We're on to a new problem--size. Maybe this is why no one is bringing up glucose screening at my OBs? Baby is resting...snoozing, really, short of 10th percentile. They don't know if my size (5'2", currently 114 pounds) is the cause or if he's facing a more serious complication. He passed a biophysical profile test and seems to have great umbilical function, but they need him to pass these tests weekly from now on or they will deliver early. So fingers crossed...

Fortunately, the increased estrogen in my system (thank you, pregnancy) really mellows me out. Ha. Otherwise, I would be stressing more about this and a myriad of other less consequential things, like the fine, blond down growing on my face (!?) and my swelling hands and my low, low bp.

  38. BadgerMom

    persimmon / 1385 posts

@Duckling: Fingers crossed everything goes well and you pass the weekly tests with flying colors!!!

@MsBadger: darn it.... I'm sorry. First things, its not the end of the world and totally manageable. Also, I've been able to eat most things, you just have to think about it a little more.
Your nutritionist/dietician should have a plan for you, but in the meantime, just think that you need to pair your carbs with protein - apple with peanut butter, grapes and cheese, brown rice with veggies and meat. Whole grains only - brown rice, whole wheat bread, quinoa. Protein will keep your blood sugar lower. I also try to eat every 2-3 hours. Here is a typical day:
Breakfast: scrambled egg with frozen veggies, cheese, salsa
Snack: peanut butter & chocolate Kind bar
Lunch: brown rice/quinoa/spinach with chicken and veggies, black beans, cheese, salsa (kind of like a chipotle burrito bowl, which is my go to eating out meal)
Snack: cheese stick/cottage cheese/peanut butter with apple/grapes/pear or hummus and wheat thins
Dinner: grilled/baked meat with sautéed veggies and brown rice/quinoa/whole wheat sandwich thin ( we've been doing a lot of turkey burgers)
Snack: graham cracker with peanut butter and a trader joes 100 calorie dark chocolate bar
Other good snacks are Greek yogurt (I have also done frozen Greek yogurt which is kind of like ice cream), nuts, hard boiled egg
I eat a lot of cheese and a lot of peanut butter, way more than when I'm not pregnant.
I also had some cake for my mom's birthday, I just had a small piece and some Greek yogurt first.
I'm still getting all my meals dialed in and figuring out what works for me (its not the same as last time which us throwing me ) Let me know if you need ideas and I'm interested to hear what your counselor says and if you find any good meals/snacks. We'll get through it. And you can vent to me... I get it.
