@Duckling: Sending positive thoughts your way! Glad to hear you are able to stay relaxed about things. I have found that I have been able to deal with most stressful situations better than usual too.

Just had my 1 hour glucose test yesterday and they told me I'd have results in 48-72 hours. Now feel like I should try and eat all the sweets and carbs I can get my hands on before the results are in...

@BabyBruins: Thank you so much for all the great information! This will really help me get a good start between now and my appointment Thursday with the diabetic counselor. My OB's nurse called last night at 5:15 with the test results, while I was in line to order food. Not exactly the best time to think of/ask questions.

@cakelady: I have two boxes of girl scout cookies sitting on my desk right now. I wish I would have dug in yesterday... lol

Had a bit of a scare tonight ladies. I was carrying LO, who is 16 months, in her room and getting her ready for bed. As I turned around I tripped and we both fell to the floor. I fell on my stomach and LO ended up underneath me. She was immediately hysterical and we quickly noticed her leg was protruding near her ankle. After a long visit to the Childrens ER and L&D, we are finally home. Super long story short, baby is ok and LO has a fractured leg. I know the outcome could be much worse, so I'm thankful we are all Ok, but this has been the scariest night and I feel so bad for my little girl. I know kids are resilient, and she will heal, but I can't help but feel so guilty for this freak accident.

@beachbee: Oh my goodness, what a lot for all of you to go through. I hope your DD's leg heals quickly and am glad to hear that you and baby are okay. I'm sure you will shower her and her leg with extra love and kisses! Please make sure you take care of yourself too after your fall.

@Duckling: Glad to hear you're in the clear with the heart issues! I'm definitely thinking of you and the IUGR stuff. Is that what they told you it is? Did they feel the restricted growth was the result of a specific health issue? Don't know if this would help, but when my neuro and I first discussed IUGR (many of her pregnant patients end up with it) she told me she wanted me to drink at least one protein shake a day and keep up my protein intake. Fingers and toes crossed for you!

@stp: I'm in the July birthday group. Just found out my LO also has Echogenic foci and a single umbilical artery. Did you get your level 2 US yet? I'm trying not to freak out...

  8. LaurelMae

    cherry / 175 posts

@stp & kml636 - That is what was diagnosed with my last ultrasound (at 20 weeks): an echogenic focus. The doctor remarked that it is fairly normal for that to appear on ultrasounds and that my ultrasound was early (they prefer 22 weeks) for heart evaluation, so I didn't think much of it. Now, I'm a little more concerned for other possibilities. I go in this Friday for another ultrasound. I don't believe it is a Level 2, though. Maybe I should request that?

@spaniellove: thanks so much for your kind words and following up to see how we are! i am starting to feel better, not nearly as sore from the fall. LO is in a hard cast. it's been a few days now and she is still getting used to it. luckily it was a clean break, so they did not have to set it before casting. i just couldn't bear to see her in so much pain, the weekend was so rough because she was in a soft cast and could feel any and all movement luckily now that her hard cast is on, the pain is going away and she's getting back to her normal, silly smiley self. it was so scary, but i know the outcome could have been much worse, and i'm thankful we have lots of family close to help out!

@MsBadger: i had my 2-hr glucose test yet, and so far no results. i did binge eat some waffle cone ice cream last night... just in case

@BabyBruins: that's a wonderful list of food options! thanks for sharing it!! even if my results come back passed, i will definitely be referring back to that for some food/snack ideas!!

@beachbee: Good luck with your test! The food hasn't been that bad and I've only gained one pound since my last appt!
@MsBadger: hope the appointmemt goes well today. I just met with the dietician and waiting (with belly gelled and hanging out) for the MFM doc. Would love to hear if you get any good tips.

I've whined plenty about it elsewhere on the site, but I'm on modified bed rest due to my irritable uterus having contractions. Sitting/lying down got to be uncomfortable and honestly I don't have any help around here so I tried to sneak out yesterday and am paying the price today - the pain is much worse. It's just so frustrating. I can't go into everything on this board but I'm struggling.

  12. beachbee

    kiwi / 673 posts

@spaniellove: whine away!! any form of bedrest takes a lot of getting used to, especially when you're used to being able to pick up and go whenever/wherever you please. you do have to listen to your body though, so please try to take it easy and get the rest you need. do you have anything to keep you occupied? you said you don't have much help, but do you have any family/friends close by who could pitch in? when i was on bedrest during my last pregnancy i had one friend who would come over to clean, help with laundry, or just give me much needed chat sessions since i felt like i was missing so much at home. i hope you get some relief soon!! have they given you an idea how long you will be on bedrest?

  13. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@beachbee: I don't have anyone who can come by at all. DH's family lives 30-45 minutes away and they talk a lot but when it comes down to it they won't lift a finger. Since this happened they've actually made mean comments about the situation. Not being able to go out basically cuts off all my social contact since DH works late and I only see him about 2 hours a day. It's been so isolating and frustrating for me that I'm starting to have thoughts I don't want to have about not wanting this baby, which is really terrible given how hard I tried to get and stay pregnant.

They didn't give me a timeline other than that I'll be doing a fetal fibronectin test every two weeks and doing cervical checks.

(To make it worse, I heard comments from his family over the weekend implying that they couldn't be bothered to come to the shower that was supposed to be planned for us, which would mean that there isn't going to be a shower.)

  14. beachbee

    kiwi / 673 posts

@spaniellove: i am so sorry to hear about the lack of help and their rude comments. you are right, bedrest can be very isolating and lonely. please cut yourself a break on the dark thoughts, that is just your mind running away with itself since you have no other outlet!! i was so bored and going out of my mind, i too had those thoughts, and the guilt that came with it. but just try to remember the importance of taking it easy and why you're glued to the couch/bed.

do you have any activities that are keeping you occupied during the day? writing, crafting, binge watching your favorite show.. lots of things come to mind, but i know after a while even those get boring.

i hope your tests and cervical checks go well and hopefully the bedrest situation won't last the rest of the pregnancy. please keep us as informed as you can!!

and about the shower... that is really crappy. i have no words, just a really crappy situation and i hope they have a change of heart. keep your head up!

@beachbee: your fall must have been so scary! I am glad the you and baby are doing well and LO is on the mend. Kids are so amazingly resilient. I have to try an remind myself of that when my little one gets here.

@spaniellove: what an awful situation. I am so sorry you aren't feeling well, stuck on bed rest and not getting the support you deserve to boot. Feel free to vent here all you want! I'm sending positive thoughts your way!

I am convinced that once babies arrive they must erase (or more than make up for) all of the awful parts of pregnancy. Otherwise I'm not sure why anyone would do it - especially more than once.

I can't really believe that baby will be here in 80 days! I am both getting really excited and really anxious. Figuring out childcare has been so anxiety provoking for me. I am used to putting in a lot of time and energy to research something and ultimately coming up with a solution I feel good about. In this case I feel like I am just spinning my wheels and running into dead ends...

On the bright side I ordered a medela beast pump two days ago - covered by insurance 100% yay!- and it showed up this morning! I was totally blown away by how easy it was. Here's to little victories!

@beachbee: @CakeLady: Thank you so much for your kind words. It means so much to me right now. I don't know why it just feels so different suddenly feeling trapped and lonely! One of my biggest obstacles right now is that I'm not feeling positive about the baby...maybe all the stuff I've gone through with IF and being high-risk has just built up and this is the last straw. Anyway I just want to get to a better place emotionally because we're getting close to June!

@spaniellove I am so sorry to hear about your bedrest. I hope this phase of complications will pass soon. Pregnancy can seem so long some days, especially with new complications every few weeks. Hang in there. We are so close; only a little over two months.

  18. LaurelMae

    cherry / 175 posts

@spaniellove I hope things are looking up a bit today despite your bed rest. How difficult! My MIL was on bed rest almost her entire pregnancy with my husband and then his younger brother. She said it definitely helped to have friends lined up for visits and help, as well as taking on a hobby or two that you can do sitting/lying down such as needlework, drawing, journaling, reading, etc. And mix it up!

I had my second ultrasound regarding the baby's echocardiac generic foci, but nothing new to report. It is still appears on the baby's heart. The ultrasound technician was explaining to me that because our equipment has become so high-tech, they are able to see things they couldn't just a few years ago. This is causing extra worry because things that are seen aren't necessarily abnormal, but now suddenly we can see they are there. It IS a soft marker for Down's but more often than not it is not something of concern.

@Duckling: @LaurelMae: Thank you guys for your kind thoughts. It means so much just to have someone check in! We're getting a little more used to what this all involves and I'm making my peace with the situation.

@LaurelMae: I hope it all turns out to be nothing and LO is born 100% healthy!

By the way, I can't believe how quickly March is going by. We're already getting into THIRD TRI guys!

    How is everyone holding up?

I am getting really excited about meeting the babe and my mother in law is throwing a shower for me this weekend which I am looking forward to .

But I am also starting to get pretty big and a little uncomfortable. Had to buy some new shoes to fit my gigantic feet - which normally I'd be super excited about but it was definitely less fun looking for bigger, wider shoes.

Is anyone else having a lot of trouble sleeping?
I can usually fall asleep ok, but I usually wake up around 4am and I am so uncomfortable that I can't fall back to sleep. I am turning into a zombie. It doesn't help that everyone keeps saying "you have to get lots of sleep now, because when the baby gets here..." I just want to punch them. Any advice or good tricks you've figured out?

I am 29 weeks today! Still at Dr. Office for a check-up but had to post this 4D image that I just got of our baby boy. I am in love! The shadow/coloring is just the way he is situated. He weighs about 3 lbs. 1 oz. which is 57 percentile. I was a preemie twin but he already weighs more than I did at birth! Sorry I have been pretty absent lately. I'll try to catch up soon!

@spaniellove - Thanks for the updated list!

@cakelady - Yes! The past week or so most nights I've woke up around 3 and had a nasty time falling back asleep. Unfortunately, I have to get up with my toddler when she awakes so that usually means it's the end of the night for me. One day, she slept until 7:30 and I was able to fall back asleep around 5. Didn't feel quite like a zombie that day….

I haven't posted for ages! Work has been a bit nuts but I finished up this week and I'm now on maternity leave!!!! YAY! i had planned for 6 weeks but I had 4 weeks sick leave accrued so I got a medical certificate from my ob and left early.

Had my shower last weekend, it was really really nice and I got spoilt!!! Also booked in for a 30 week scan and went on Thursday to have it - not for any reason other than wanting to see him hahaha! We were so lucky because they had just got this wizz bang machine and baby was showing off his face so nicely they kinda used him as a practise and we were there about 30 mins! Got this amazing shot of his face! @kentuckygirl: I know what you mean about be so in LOVE! I just can't stop looking at him

Looking forward to having more of our June Mamas check in!

@Tundra Daisy: @spaniellove: Love seeing pics of your babies too!!! Seeing our baby makes it feel so real (and a little overwhelming) that he will be here in around 10 weeks. Ack! I have so much to do!

I had a shower last weekend and have two small family gatherings in the next month. I got more clothes than I anticipated (but should have expected), a Boppy, booster chair (that we will use instead of a high chair), lots of books (yay!), etc. Not any "big" gifts (aka gear), so I feel very lucky that I have received several hand-me-downs of bigger items from my sis.

Hubby has been so busy with work that we haven't made any progress on the nursery. I did order the glider and ottoman and have visited several day care centers but don't feel close to choosing. I am looking into pediatricians and trying to decide which breast pump to order. Anyone else looked at breast pumps? I have coverage through my insurance. I am leaning toward the Medela PISA or the Hygeia Q. I have "favorited" a bunch of wall art on Etsy but need to look at it again and try to decide what I am doing on the walls. I feel ready to nest but our nursery isn't close enough to done for me to do any work there.

I am AMA (advanced maternal age), so I will actually start bi-weekly appointments now, with an ultrasound every 4 weeks.

How is everyone else doing? I have read through most all the posts but I am sorry, I can't reply to all. I am hoping everyone and your LO's are doing well! I know several of you have been/are dealing with a lot. I hope things are looking up!!!

@kentuckygirl: Your shower sounds like it was nice! And yay for all the books...it's great to get that start on your library. We have definitely stalled on finishing the nursery. I realized after arranging the furniture that I blocked the floor vents even with the special angled vents so I have to figure out a new arrangement, but there aren't many options. So I just close the door and walk away. And no art on the walls.

After procrastinating and being asked constantly by the OB and hospital, I finally called the pediatrician's office today. There were just too many options in our town - how are they all "top rated"? I went with the one that was raved about by the crunchy mamas and people were driving from other counties to see but was 3 minutes from my house. But he's adamant about vaxing so it seems like a good balance.

  32. Duckling

Baby weight has improved! Now he just has to maintain that percentile growth for three straight weeks. Then our last two months will be spent in relative peace, which by our standards means biweekly ultrasounds for heart complications. I'll take it.

Unfortunately, I received news that I didn't pass the one-hour glucose test. So we're adding another risk to the portfolio if I can't pass that three-hour version. :\

However, on a more positive note, we found a daycare and secured a spot for the autumn--woot! No pediatrician yet, but that's next on the list...

@kml636: @laurelmae: so sorry for the delayed response. I did have my level 2 ultrasound at the hospital at about 27.5 weeks and they found that the bright spot wasn't detectable anymore. In the absence of other markers and the IPS bloodwork, I'm going with everything is fine with baby boy.

My one hour glucose test came back elevated but my two hour test came back normal, yay. I fell asleep during the one hour test (I didn't know you aren't supposed to!!!) and the lab tech warned me I might have elevated results as your metabolism slows down as you sleep.

We are struggling with names and are nowhere near set up for little one's arrival!

@Duckling: @stp: I hate that one hour test. I think they set you up to worry no matter what! My practice took a couple extra days calling me back because they saw some other things in my bloodwork they didn't like, but meanwhile I started to worry myself sick. Looking at my number from the test I think I finally know why I'm constantly cranky and hungry.

@Duckling: That is so wonderful to hear about LO's growth! Hoping he keeps it up and gets himself some chubby little cheeks.

@stp: HB is pretty great with names But really, you still have plenty of time. Do you have any you're thinking about? It's certainly a process but when you choose the right one I know you will feel it.

Hi ladies! I have been reading the thread, but I picked up a few contract jobs and I have been really busy lately.
Good luck to everyone as they take their one, two and three hour glucose tests. I have now been following the GD diet for about 5 weeks now and it hasn't killed me and allowed me to only gain 1 lb from diagnosis to my first follow up 3 weeks later. I would love to stay within the recommended 25-35 lb weight gain. I only gained 25 with J, but I did deliver him 6 weeks early.
Nothing much going on here. I am still doing the prenatal yoga, which I LOVE and my instructor recommended trying acupuncture to help keep my blood sugar and blood pressure down (my BP isn't high yet, but that is what led to J's early delivery so I'm trying to prevent it). My first appointment is today. My OB also recommends it to get labor going and since I am trying for a VBAC, I need to be "on my way" before she can assist with more induction techniques so I will also probably try some of the labor inducing acupuncture once my due date gets closer.
My mom and my sister are hosting a "sprinkle" for me just before Easter with just sisters, aunts, grammas and cousins. I did 2 registries online last night, but it felt a little weird. I really have most of the stuff I need, especially having another boy. I put some big stuff (double stroller, second monitor) on just so I can get the completion discount on them. @spaniellove: how do you really feel about the Caroline diaper bag? I still totally want it, but my mom is giving me a hard time about picking such an expensive bag.
Don't even get me started on the nursery. J is still in the crib (we are totally battling bedtime right now) so I can only focus on getting him to fall asleep on his own again, let alone trying to transition him out of it. Baby is going to be in the co-sleeper at first anyways so I think I am officially giving up on getting J in another room before the baby comes.
Hope everyone is doing well! Third trimester!

  36. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@BabyBruins: You have the benefit of being a STM so you know what you like in a bag! Do you want/like outside pockets, inside pockets? I have the MbMJ diaper bag and realized that I hate how bulky it looks with even a few things stuffed into the outside pockets, so I really liked the big pockets that the Caroline had. Plus I don't really wear bags on my shoulder so it was important that it look good with the shoulder strap. So if those are important for you but your mom is still reluctant, maybe she can split the cost with you? And there's also Ebates? Or if you like the mulberry color that's on sale right now at Saks (as are a lot of the other Storksak bags, so tempting).

P.S. - It's completely possible that after LO is here I'll realize that all I need is the Carters knockoff of the Storksak Olivia, who knows!

    Hi ladies!
It sounds like everyone has been really busy lately, I know I have been. We're trying to get all kinds of things done before the baby arrives, spend time with friends and we've started doing some classes at the hospital. Our schedule is just feeling so packed, but I wanted to check in and see how all of you are doing!

I just had my 28 week appointment yesterday. Everything seems pretty normal - good heart rate for baby and I am measuring right on schedule.

I did have to get Rhogam shot because I am Rh Negative and am at risk for Rh incompatibility. The doctor didn't really talk to me about it at all - never mentioned it in previous appointments and just sent the nurse in to give me the shot after the appointment - that upset me a bit. From the reading about it that I did, it seems like it is not too big of a deal as long as it is treated. Any one have any experience with this?

Also, a really good friend of mine had a baby last night. It is so exciting and makes me even more eager for baby to get here. Only a little over 8 weeks until I get to meet him or her (and find out if it is a him or her!)

Hope all of you are doing well!

@CakeLady: That would be upsetting if they hadn't mentioned it to you! I have no experience with it...did the nurse explain anything about it to you? Are you totally done after that shot?

The fetal care doctor gave me a little hint about passing the 3-hr glucosa. I told him that I don't drink fruit juice or soda, so I didn't think my body was used to the sugar overload. He asked what my regular diet was--I 'fessed that it was close to the recommended GD diet. He told me to ignore my nurse's instructions to eat a light meal. "Carb load," he said. "During the three days prior to fasting, you must carb load." He said that my low-sugar diet probably meant that I shocked my system when I drank 12 oz of glucosa. If I ate carbs three days prior to the test, he said I'd change my baseline and my body would have more practice at dealing with the sugar overload. I took his advice. Correlation? Maybe, but I passed! Even the 1-hour draw was within normal range this time. Whew. This first-time mum is learning, learning a lot.

@duckling - Great job passing your glucose test! I just took mine at the beginning of last week and haven't heard anything back from my doctor. I'm actually in the midst of switching to my new doctor, and will have my first appointment this Thursday. Crossing my fingers for a passing grade!

I'm nervous, still, about switching to a new OB this late in the game but I think I will feel much better once I've met her face-to-face with my husband. Looking forward to Thursday….

I've been getting a fair share of Braxton-Hicks already. Anyone else getting some pre-labor pains? I did with my first as well which meant for a fairly speedy labor.
