June 2014 mamas!

Hi Ladies! I have never been to this thread before, but just saw it pop up and thought I'd jump in!

    1) How many weeks are you? 35 weeks today! Our due date is June 2.

    2) How are you sleeping? I have been sick with a bad cold for the last week, so I have not been sleeping well. I have been getting up about every 2 hours. Last night I only got up a few times, though, so maybe it will be better from here on out!

    3) Where is baby going to sleep in the beginning? The nursery is right across the hall from our room, so right now I am planning to have her in her crib from day 1. It seems like it would be easier since everything she needs-- clothes, diapers, sound machine, glider-- will all be right there. That said, I am open to changing my mind! We have a pack 'n' play that we could set up by our bed if we decided to.

At our 34 week appointment they verified that she is head-down, and said she is unlikely to flip at this point. I have always carried her low, but she hasn't dropped yet, It is crazy to me that she could drop at any point, and that I could even be dilating already! We had our breastfeeding class on Saturday. It was okay, but I probably got less out of it just because of this darn cold! I came away with tons of reading material, though. Baby will be full term on my birthday, so I am cool with her coming anytime after that

@kentuckygirl: We have had her name picked out since before we even knew she was a girl! We picked out a boy's name too, but had a much harder time with that one. We have been keeping the name a secret from everyone, which has been HARD but fun too!

@kentuckygirl: We are team green and a little indecisive, but I we have 3 contenders each for girl and boy names and I think we have agreed on a front runner for each, though we are going to wait to meet this babe to make a final decision.

@mrsrain: boy names have been so much harder for me too! I know what I would have named a girl but we're having a boy.

@kentuckygirl: Do you think you'd like to use the same style of name as the name you would have given a girl?

@kentuckygirl: We finally decided on a full name for our second boy last week! Feels so good to be done with that

Hope everyone else is doing well! I am sitting here at 32 weeks and 5 days...feeling every day of that too! I passed my GD test this time around (I'm still in shock) but I really need to stick to a low carb/high protein diet in order for baby to be born around 7-8lbs per my doc in order for my VBAC chances to be greater. ugh.

Hi everyone! I am way behind, life has been so hectic lately and I'm in full-on nesting mode so any free time I've had (which is extremely limited thanks to LO!) I've spent organizing and purging stuff from my house

I love the idea of weekly updates... we're getting so close!!!

    1) How many weeks are you? - 34 weeks and 6 days. So hard to believe I'll be 35 weeks tomorrow... I delivered at 37 weeks last time, so that kind of blows my mind that this could happen any week now.

    2) How are you sleeping? - I'm sleeping as well as can be expected. I haven't been too uncomfortable pregnancy-wise, but unfortunately I have PUPPS again, so my rash has been out of control and it's the worst at night. My MFM said I can take benadryl, which has helped me sleep, but I still find myself scratching in my sleep.

    3) Where is baby going to sleep in the beginning? - Baby will sleep in our room starting out. LO slept in our room (actually in our bed) until she was 13 months. I'm not sure if we'll keep baby in our room for that long, but they will eventually share a room, so it all depends on their sleep patterns and how we figure out timing!

And what else is going on? We had our babymoon this weekend It was a staycation, at a hotel about 30 minutes from home but it was perfect. It was our first overnight trip without LO so I was a nervous wreck at first, but finally relaxed and we had a really nice time. We also did a family maternity photo shoot yesterday, and I got some proofs today, I'm so excited!! We didn't use a pro, just my SIL and a friend, but we got some really good shots and I know we will cherish those moments with just the three of us

We are stumped on names. We tried to spend some time on it this weekend, but it was stressing me out so we stopped. We're team green, so we're trying to come up with a couple options for boys and girls. Hopefully we'll make some progress on it this week!!

Now I am going to try to get caught up on everyone's updates. I hope you all are doing well!!

@beachbee: I'm so sorry to hear about your PUPPS! Have you trimmed your nails super short? It certainly won't do anything for your itching but if you're scratching it might cut down on the damage you could do. (I get hives so I'm afraid of scratching my belly!) I'd love to see your photos; maybe you could post them to the bump thread!

    @mrsrain: welcome!

    @pregnantbee: thanks!

    @spaniellove: thanks for updating!

@beachbee: I wasn't familiar with PUPPS so I did a little googling - it looks so uncomfortable and itchy! Sorry friend! Glad to hear that your baby moon was fun and that you got some great pics though. I wish that we'd gotten some photos done. I feel too big and awkward now. I've been pestering DH to take more pics all along - he went to school for photography for crying out loud - he did a few two weekends ago but there aren't any of the two of us. Oh well...

  15. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@CakeLady: No! Never too big! Trust me, it's not worth it if you're not far enough along. Set up a tripod - we almost did that this past weekend. Take advantage of your DH's skills; he will know what to do with that tripod too!

ETA: My SIL did her photos at 36 weeks and looked great!

    pear / 1657 posts

@spaniellove: Thanks for the encouragement. We are planning to go for a little getaway this weekend so maybe I'll suggest bringing the tripod.

While we're on the topic of pictures, my boss has been pestering me for nursery photos (clearly neither DH or I is very motivated to take pictures these days) so I finally took a few work in progress shots last night.

Many details left... We haven't put the rug down and are still waiting for the glider. Also the "art" is just color printouts of what we've ordered - actual pieces are going to get framed. The dresser is white on the front, not blue, we just haven't taken protective film off yet. The big things are mostly done though and I'm really happy with progress so far!

@CakeLady: Thanks! It has been so awful, but I'm trying my hardest to not scratch because I do not want scars!! And I completely agree with @spaniellove, you are never too big for belly shots!!! Definitely take your tripod with you on your getaway this weekend, you'll be so glad to get some pics of the two of you! The nursery looks awesome!! I'm kinda sad we're not doing a second nursery because I loved planning LO's and doing all the DIY stuff. Oh well... I can live vicariously through all of you

@spaniellove: I actually waited until our maternity pics were done to trim my nails, lol. I wanted them to look somewhat nice in case we did any close-up shots. Trimmed them today, so fingers crossed I haven't done too much damage! I will make sure to post a couple belly shots in the bump thread once I get the pics back. I'm so excited because I'm in love with the previews... my bump is large and in charge

Those nursery pictures look great, everyone!

    1) How many weeks are you? 34 weeks (aka lungs are done!)
    2) How are you sleeping? Better than most. I've always been a hard sleeper and very rarely have had problems (beyond soreness and tossing) in this pregnancy. This week I've been getting the worst heartburn so it's meant sleeping upright, but I've cut back all forms of sugar (fruit is my nemesis) and that's helped.
    3) Where is baby going to sleep in the beginning? Our room in a bassinet. (Fingers crossed that this works well.)

I've started to feel the naming pressure too. Fortunately, I'm not alone. My DH--procrastinator extraordinaire--has felt it too, so we've finally talked about it after a dry spell of "no name conversations" that lasted a couple of months. We think (?) we've narrowed it down to two choices, with a first and second preference. We'll see...

Well, I got a little setback yesterday.... I was so happy to make it past the point I had J but later that night I had a stomach ache just like the night before J was born. I saw my OB yesterday and she put me on bed rest and I don't think I'll have a June baby. Hoping to get to 37 weeks and I definitely won't go past 39.
I'm hoping the rest keeps my blood pressure down and I can just take it easy. My babysitter will help me full time until the baby comes. Of everything that could have happened yesterday, this was the best case scenario - able to go home, not have a baby yet - but I'm bummed, especially about not being able to take care of J by myself anymore, not going to Mommy and Me, no park or library and no more yoga which I loved so much.
So the countdown really begins and we'll see how long I last. I'm happy to have made it to 34 weeks and lung maturity so lets just get this baby nice and big.

Love hearing how everyone is doing! Thinking about everyone and especially for those that are having some bumps in the road!

    1) How many weeks are you? 32 + 5
    2) How are you sleeping? Not great, baby is transverse/breech and it is not comfortable sleeping on my side so I'm constantly switching positions to feel like I'm not laying on his head! Also, up a couple of times to pee.
    3) Where is baby going to sleep in the beginning? Staight into the crib in his room. It's right next to our room and that is what we did with DD and she sleeps great so we are planning on trying the same stuff with him in case we had anything to do with it

Nursery is almost done, just need to organize. We moved DD last weekend into a new room and DS will take her old room so we really don't need to do a lot beside put things in their spots.

Starting to get a bit nervous about the 2 under 2 thing and probably need to really start putting together a plan for when I go into labor (logistics of someone getting DD, take care of dogs, etc). Any advice is greatly appreciated!! Also need to think about what I'm going to need. While this is our second, it's my first pregnancy so I haven't even thought of all of those logistics!! Yikes...need to stop typing or I'm going to have a panic attack

Hope everyone has a great day!!

@BabyBruins: I'm so sorry this is happening to you! You are doing an amazing job of keeping baby baking. It is hard giving up your freedom on bed rest. I'll be thinking of you!!

@lilyann: @spaniellove: thanks ladies. My mom came today and it wasn't so bad. I go back to my OB tomorrow and we can discuss the next steps but my initial labs came back clear. I also have a friend who is an OB and she said that bed rest isn't necessarily the only option for high blood pressure. I'm hoping she will let me do things like go to mommy and me with the babysitter and she can run after J and I can sit there and we can all go to the park and library together and she can do the heavy lifting.
Fingers crossed but if this is it then I'll rest for a couple weeks. Didn't realize until today that I am pretty tired.

  25. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@BabyBruins: DH's coworker went on bed rest for pre-e (pretty early on!) and said it ended up being so helpful for her. So I hope this is all worth the sacrifice for you! It's good that your mom is able to come and help out; having any kind of help is a huge burden off your shoulders. And don't be afraid to tell people what they can do for you. I found it useful to make a station around the sofa that had everything I needed with snacks, water, and things to do.

  26. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

I mentioned it elsewhere but we saw at yesterday's growth scan that baby is now down to 11th percentile. And his abdominal circumference is below the 5th percentile (which is part of what dragged his overall size down; it's kind of uneven). So now I'll be doing the weekly NST/AFI/Doppler visits. I guess after going through a couple years of infertility treatments and the miscarriages and the crazy pregnancy stuff, I just want it to be over. I used to be so into the idea that I'd have a natural birth, but now I'm mostly fine with the idea of just having a c-section and making sure he gets here okay.

ETA: Also, if one person says to me that my body was meant to do this when I'm in labor, I may punch them.

@BabyBruins: so sorry about the bedrest. I hope you get better news today!

@spaniellove: Hugs! When is your next appointment? Have they given you any indication if there is a certain point they would take further action? Is early delivery the most likely step if his percentile decreases further? I am thinking of you!

  28. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@kentuckygirl: I go back to the OB every Tuesday and MFM every Thursday now. The MFM said they'd consider delivering in 3 weeks (so 37 weeks, since they're all using June 12 and not 13 as my due date) if they're not happy with his growth, but if they see anything dramatic with the cord flow/placenta/amniotic fluid before then they'd also deliver. Actually the OB called this morning and scheduled a c-section for June 10, so I guess I'll be done by then no matter what!

  29. CakeLady

    pear / 1657 posts

@BabyBruins: Bummer about the blood pressure and bed rest! It's good to hear you will have some help and that your labs are looking good. I'll be sending positive thoughts your way!

@spaniellove: Sorry this has been such a difficult journey for you, you deserve to coast into the finish line! Perhaps its good to have a clear end date. I'll be delivering at 37 weeks, and as much as a c-section isn't my ideal scenario, it has been nice to have a date (and time!) to count down to especially when I am having a rough day.

We've made it to May - next stop JUNE!

Tomorrow I will be one month from baby day. Yikes. Definitely excited and nervous. I'm heading to the doc in 2 hours to have a growth ultrasound and checkup.

I've been so anxious about how the c-section will impact my ability to breastfeed that I made and froze a ton of lactation cookies last night and bought some Mother's Milk tea - I have no idea if they will help, but I figure it can't hurt. I am officially a resident of crazy town.

  31. spaniellove

@CakeLady: You're so prepared; I haven't even thought about things like c-section + BF! Just going to show up totally unprepared...

  32. CakeLady

    pear / 1657 posts

@spaniellove: I don't know if I'm so prepared, I'm just worrying about things that aren't even problems yet.

I had an ultrasound yesterday to check growth and position. Now i know i am being kicked in the ribs on the right and elbowed down low on the left. The way the ultrasound tech described the baby also made it seem like he or she is really huge. The doctor told me the tech has no tact and that the baby is within the average, but on the bigger side. Their guess is just under 5lbs. Which is actually a good thing since baby will be here one month from today!!!

  33. BabyBruins

    kiwi / 551 posts

@CakeLady: I'm totally obsessed with making lactation cookes this time. A friend gave me some MilkMakers last time but I want to try and make my own this time (and I can't stop thinking about cookies with this dumb GD).
I had a csection and didn't end up having "problems" with breastfeeding but I had other issues that initially impacted our breastfeeding. J was in the NICU immediately after birth and I wasn't allowed to visit him for 24 hours bc of the medicine I was on. I started pumping the day after he was born and was able to take some colostrum to him that he had in a bottle.
I think our issues were more bc he was a preemie than bc of my csection, but you may have similar issues bc even at full term at 37 weeks, your baby is coming early. J did not start breastfeeding consistently from the breast until his due date. I pumped and gave him a bottle and we would try BF and if it didn't work, go to the bottle. It was frustrating at times and hard to BF and bottle feed, but I'm really glad we did it and I nursed him the last time around 15 months old.
My advice is to be prepared to pump right away as it may help your milk come in but do this with BF too. The bottle/nipple confusion didn't seem to be an issue for us, but I would recommend preemie nipples on the bottles. They are they slowest and may help the baby not get lazy and get used to a easy, fast flow from a bottle and not want to work at the breast.
Also, I know a csection isn't ideal, but mine wasn't that bad and I totally think it was bc I didn't labor first. My SIL labored and then csection and her recovery was difficult. I went straight to the OR and I felt pretty good when I got home. They recommend getting up and walking as soon as you can. Again, I had to stay in bed bc of my medicine but I was getting up and going to the NICU a couple times a day, first in a wheelchair but later I would push the empty chair or my husband. We do what we have to to get our babies here safely and us to be able to be good moms.

@cakelady - I had a c-section last time and had no troubles breastfeeding. Just let your recovery nurses know you want to BF as soon as possible. Baby will be sleepy from the pain meds you are on (and so will you) but you can definitely get a first BF session in pretty quickly.

I am 32 weeks tomorrow. Feeling pretty good. Starting to get that pregnancy insomnia where you wake up for no reason and can't fall asleep again. Still deciding between a vbac and repeat c-section. There really are pros and cons for each. I will talk to my OB in two weeks at the 34 week visit to make a game plan.

Any other June mamas thinking about a VBAC?

  35. CakeLady

    pear / 1657 posts

@BabyBruins: Thank you for the advice and encouragement. I'm so happy to hear that despite the challenges at first you were able to successfully breastfeed. From everything I've heard persistence pays off!

@shortcake: So glad you had a positive bf experience after c-section, gives me hope!

  36. BabyBruins

    kiwi / 551 posts

@shortcake: I'm still hoping to do a VBAC even with my recent setback. My doc says its the safest for me and baby followed by a scheduled csection. My csection was okay and I had an easy recovery, but I'm nervous about another one with a toddler and lifting and holding him.
Why are you considering another csection? (I always leaned towards VBAC so I want to understand the other side.)

  37. shortcake

    apricot / 288 posts

@babybruins: the biggest risk of a vBAC is uterine rupture, even though it is rare. It is a very serious complication. My OB will not induce for a vbac, so there is a risk if I am not progressing, I will end up with a RCS anyway. And they won't let me go past 40 weeks so if I don't start labor on my own, I will end up with one for that reason. And so far this baby is transverse still and has been for a a few weeks already, so there might not be a choice in the matter if it doesn't move, although there is time still. Smaller reasons include this being my last pregnancy so I am not worried about future vbacs, having two extra paid weeks off with a c-section, being able to coordinate care for my LO and having had a really easy recovery last time. The part of my that wants a VBAC is because it is usually the healthiest option for the baby and an uncomplicated birth and delivery would have the best recovery time.

  38. lilyann

    nectarine / 2878 posts

@shortcake: I am hoping to VBAC! My first was an unplanned csection after 28 hours of being "in labor" (failed induction). I thought recovery was pretty rough but I had no problems breastfeeding, etc. I really don't want to go through that recovery with a toddler and newborn but will do what it takes to get baby out safely. I honestly feel like a first time mom because I have a chance to "start over" again since my body could potentially go into labor on its own and I have a more supportive doctor who will let nature take its course. I never got to push last time, so I am a little anxious about all of that!

I can't believe we are going to be having our babies NEXT month!!!!

  39. BabyBruins

    kiwi / 551 posts

@shortcake: my OB has said similar things - I need to be "on my way", they have limited tools to induce (no cervadil, have to use a Foley catheter, but she will use pitocin). I probably won't make it to 40 weeks anyways and she will let me try things like red raspberry leaf, pineapple and sex (as long as it doesn't raise my load pressure) to ripen my cervix.
As you said, baby may make the decision for you and be transverse. Good luck with your decision! Hubs and I agree that whatever is safest for me and baby is what we will do.

Hi Mamas! Do we want to do a Monday check in?

    1) How far along are you?
    2) Any 1st trimester symptoms coming back?
    3) What has been your favorite piece of baby gear/gift you have received for the new baby?
    4) Anything else?
