June 2014 mamas!

@kentuckygirl: Congratulations!!! That's such great news! You must be so relieved

I'm very ready to be done with the RE at this point. They called me today and said that after a week of doing PIO every other day my progesterone had dropped from over 100 to around 50, and they hadn't expected that. Personally it makes sense to me that if you halve the dosage, you should get half the number, but whatever. I'm just tired of their drama and don't know why they're monitoring my beta and other numbers still.

@spaniellove: So sorry! How much longer do you expect to see the RE? I was released at 10 weeks.

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@kentuckygirl: They won't say. I think the monitoring is unnecessary since my HCG has been going down for a while and they keep saying that's expected, plus I'm seeing the MFM starting next week.

So I had a scare yesterday. I started bright red bleeding and as the afternoon went on, I felt twinges too. I wouldn't call them cramps but I definitely felt more in the uterine/lower abdomen than I have ever felt before. I called the on-call dr. twice. The first time, I missed her call and her message basically said not to worry. Then I felt more a lot more twinges and so I called back. She again tried to reassure me, but said I could come in first thing today for an ultrasound. This morning, the tech started off measuring my fibroids rather than going straight to baby but pretty soon, we saw our little boy moving around and then we heard his heartbeat! He is measuring right on track. Then we saw the dr. and she said I have a partial placenta previa which means the placenta is partially covering my cervix. She said it will hopefully move up and off my cervix as my pregnancy progresses. But for now, I need to be more cautious about my activity, no heavy lifting and no intercourse. I probably over did it this weekend. We went shopping all day on Saturday and I lifted a couple of things Saturday and Sunday that weren't extremely heavy. I am so independent that this is going to be challenging but I got a bad scare, so I will definitely follow her advice. I feared the worst all day yesterday. Particularly after IVF and almost 2 years of IF treatment to get PG. I am so very relieved that our baby is okay!

On another note, while shopping Saturday, I got a PBK Larkin crib for $300 off regular price at the Pottery Barn Outlet!!! I also got some bedding and a shelf/bench. I was so excited to find great deals and that I could start buying stuff since I found out that we were having a boy on Friday! Of course yesterday, I was worried I had jinxed everything. What a roller coaster of emotions this weekend. How are you all doing?

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@kentuckygirl: OMG that must have been quite a scare! What a huge relief that baby is okay and you got to see him doing well. Please take it easy! That crib does sound like a great deal though - not a jinx at all. Whatever you need to do to feel great about the pregnancy, right? I hope the placenta issue corrects itself and you don't have anymore scary incidents!

@kentuckygirl: oh my goodness, that is scary. I'm so glad that everything is OK and that little boy is doing well. And congrats on the deals! I'm realizing that I have to take it easy, too, and it's harder than it sounds! Hang in there, mama, and take care of yourself!

We had the first part of our sequential screen today as well as the visit with the MFM and genetic counselor. What a long appointment but at least the NT scan looked good! I'm relieved that the baby's growth finally caught up and the neck measurements were good.

This was the first time we saw the baby moving and I completely fell in love. Those legs kicking and the hands playing with each other! How can that be going on while I'm totally unaware?

    @LovelyPlum: @spaniellove: Thank you both!

@spaniellove: So relieved your scan went well!!! It is so cool to see the baby moving for the first time!

@kentuckygirl: what a scare! so glad to hear everything turned out OK and you were able to see baby!!

@spaniellove: great news!! our little one was moving so much during our NT scan, and I said the same thing about all that movement when I don't feel a thing yet! so happy to hear the measurements were good and growth is right on track.

we are switching OB's, and I couldn't be happier! during my last pregnancy, we went to MFM because of the high risk with multiples. after everything we went through, we grew really close to everyone in that office. when I found out I was pregnant this time around, I called my regular GYN office since I wasn't sure if I was considered high risk this time around. after a few visits there, I just don't feel comfortable, and was really hoping to switch back. I ran into my previous OB by chance last week, and when I told her I was 12 weeks along, she said I had to come back to their office! I called that afternoon and transferred everything over, so my next appt will be on 12/9 with my previous office. yay!!

how's everyone feeling? my nausea is *hopefully* starting to slow down a bit. I'm hopeful that I'll be able to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday with no issues

@beachbee: Yay for the switch! So does that mean you're going back to the MFM?

Hoping @MsBadger: and @BabyBruins: have/had good NT scan appointments today!

Just got back from my NT scan. The tech understandably didn't want to say anything with regard to the measurement without knowing the whole blood work picture, but based on my vast internet research the measurement she got appeared to be in the normal range.

It was great to see the "wooly spider monkey" (that's what we're calling it now since I was sick of referring to "it"). We decided to go with some kind of monkey because it spent most of the appointment standing on its head, and we're expecting it to come out with lots of hair since both DH and I came out will full heads of crazy black hair that never fell out.

Here's the best pick after the wooly monkey finally settled down for some measurements.

    @spaniellove: Thanks!
Our appointment went well today. Everything measured good and combined with the blood work, all of the risks are low.
I really like my MFM doctor and even though it won't be really convenient after the new year, I think I am going to stick with him and my current OB. Both me and hubs are really comfortable with both of them and feel good about the care they give.
With our first baby, he was very sure at the NT scan that it was a boy and he was right. Today he guessed....boy again, but it wasn't nearly as clear as it was with our first. So, we will just have to wait for the 20-week scan to be sure!

@BabyBruins: Yay! I'm glad things went well

@MsBadger: Wooly spider monkey, that's so cute! I love it. And you got a good hand pic there. Internet research is very important!

@BabyBruins: Wait, aren't you the same due date as me? And you got a gender guess? Lucky duck! Our tech said "he" a few times but I don't think she was serious. I have clearer nub shots if anyone is good at that!

  15. BabyBruins

    kiwi / 551 posts

@spaniellove: Our due dates are close (EDD June 10), but I think that my MFM doctor just guesses to guess. He seems very experienced and I feel like he is really good at reading ultrasounds, but it is really early. He guessed (correctly) with our son, but my sister commented that she didn't get a gender guess at her 12 week scan with a different doctor.
I would not be shocked if it is different at the 20 week.
And I will forever be skeptical after my SIL was told boy and ended up having a girl.

I am loving all the positive updates. so glad to hear @Babybruins @Spaniellove @Msbadger and @Beachbee have had such good appointments lately. I had another appointment today. Our Harmony results are in and are low risk. Yay! My bloodwork all looked good and I passed the 1 hr GD test with flying colors. They didn't run the CF test, but we are going to announce tomorrow anyway. Neither of us has any known relatives with CF, so hopefully one or both of us are not carriers. The PA student and OB had trouble finding the heartbeat at first because of my giant fibroid, which was panic-inducing, but eventually did and it is still a strong 155. My husband the doc says that means the Junebug was sleeping. Aww.

Yay so happy to hear everyone is doing well!!!

We had a another dating ultrasound yesterday and dr moved my due date up a week to June 14. I told her it didn't make sense because that would mean we conceived the day before I got my period but oh well! Besides that baby is doing good.

@BabyBruins: it's true most doctors won't guess at 12 weeks. With DD mine told me flat out before the nt scan he wasn't going to guess. We are going to go to a 3D ultrasound place to figure out if baby is a boy or girl. They will only tell you if they know 150% and won't make any guesses. If they can't tell you they bring you back for free until they can tell you. With DD we found out at 12w4d. My dr says that the 3D places are hardly ever wrong too.

@spaniellove: yep! I love my MFM office and I'm so glad to be going back for good.

@MsBadger: love the nickname! we always called the babies "glow worms" because we didn't want to use "it" and we figured we had so many ultrasounds they were going to come out glowing that's a great pic of your little monkey!!

@BabyBruins: so happy to hear the appointment went well and risk factors are low. it'll be interesting to see if he is right so early!

@meesker: great news on the harmony results! it will be so exciting to announce tomorrow! we have told all of our family and started spreading the word to close friends last week. we're planning to post a picture of LO tomorrow on FB with a caption that says something about being thankful for a new sibling.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend! We have started telling more people since I am officially 13 weeks! I am planning a Christmas card/announcement to tell even more people then. Working on getting our Christmas tree done today so that we can take a picture and finish the cards this week!

@kentuckygirl: we had a great holiday, can't believe the weekend is almost over already! We started telling close friends earlier this week and on Thanksgiving we posted a picture on FB with LO wearing a Big Sister onesie and a picture of our ultrasound. Super excited the news is finally out and I can stop trying to hide this bump that is growing much faster than my first pregnancy!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! And if any if you celebrate Hanukkah I hope you are having a wonderful holiday!

@kentuckygirl: Our weekend was busy but great! We've also started telling more people. And accumulating more stuff! My ILs bought us a beautiful crib and dresser this weekend; I wasn't planning on getting it this early but the one I wanted was being discontinued so I got the floor model. The crib will have to stay in storage while we renovate!

I'm back from our 2-week trip to France - I survived traveling with a 15-month old. Let me tell you, it was exhausting! Jet lag, lack of routine, plus moving around almost everyday as we tried to see all our friend and family made for one tired baby and two tired parents by the end!

We had our NT scan in France (cheaper to pay out of pocket there than pay our insurance's "negotiated rate here", crazy, right?). Baby 2 is looking good. Heart rate of 159, very squirmy, 10 fingers, 10 toes...And an overall risk assessment over 2000, so I'll take it!

Glad to see so many other mamas have had good scans - we're almost out of the first tri already ladies!

We told just about everyone we know now, just some of my extended family who'll find out this weekend.

Question for the 2nd time moms - if you are still breastfeeding LO are you experiencing any pain? My nipples are so sore, I wonder if my supply isn't starting to dwindle causing DD to use her teeth more as she suckles? It's to the point where I think I'm going to wean her over the next few weeks, I can not take it anymore.

  25. BadgerMom

    persimmon / 1385 posts

@Chastenet: So glad your NT Scan wen't well!

We just started getting some Explanation of Benefit statements from our insurance, and me being a numbers girl find them fascinating. It's crazy to me the billed amount vs the negotiated amount... 50-70% of the charge just vanishes. It's maddening for me because that means there is at least a 200-400% markup on this stuff. Anyway, I think i'll keep track of all the charged/negotiated costs associated with prenatal care and delivery and do a post when it's all over.

For any of us who had NT scans last week, when do you think you'll have the results? I forgot to ask, and I can't wait because provided everything goes well, we'll starting really spreading the news.

@MsBadger: I had my NT scan and the Maternit21 test a week and a half ago, and haven't heard anything yet. I'm getting antsy!

Ha! Apparently I spoke an hour too soon. Just got a call from the OB's office, the nurse said everything on the First Trimester Screen came back normal and there is no increased risk for chromosomal abnormalities. Hooray! Time to spread the news

Fingers crossed that everyone else gets the good news soon!!!

@MsBadger: Great update!! Have fun spreading the news

We are still waiting on our NT results... but we also switched offices about a week after the test was done, so I'm sure that's causing the delay. My next appt with the new office is Monday so I'm hoping they have some answers...

  29. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@MsBadger: That's wonderful news! Enjoy making those announcements! We were told that they don't call with the first trimester results unless there's something wrong and if they were to call it would take a week except we had the holiday. So I'm hoping that if I haven't heard by today or tomorrow things are okay!

  30. kentuckygirl

    pear / 1786 posts

We didn't have an NT scan since we did the Harmony test. I hated the wait for results though! Congrats and good luck to all who have had the test!

Is anyone doing the Cystic Fibrosis test? We are leaning toward not doing it but I am interested in your opinions.

How is everyone feeling these days? My exhaustion is still hanging around. I think hosting family for Thanksgiving and then decorating for Christmas is partly to blame for mine. I haven't had much of any nausea since about week 8 but food just doesn't sound good. I am also feeling full after not eating nearly as much as usual. I knew this would be a problem later in pregnancy as baby and uterus grew, but I wasn't expecting that problem so early!

  31. BabyBruins

    kiwi / 551 posts

My OB has me get blood drawn before the ultrasound so I can get the results at the same time as the ultrasound. We had low risks across the board.
I started wearing maternity pants on Thanksgiving. I think it makes me look way more pregnant. I'm definitely showing more at this point than I was with my son (not shocking, I started this pregnancy heavier). My work is giving me a going-away lunch today and I am going to tell my team then. Although I can't believe they haven't figured it out yet, I work with a team of men and one baby-clueless woman, so I think they will be surprised.
I am feeling a lot better. The constant hung-over feeling has gone away and like @kentuckygirl: I get really full fast. Before it felt more like bloat, but now it just feels like I'm getting full.

  32. BadgerMom

    persimmon / 1385 posts

@kentuckygirl: I think we are going to get the cystic fibrosis test done. From the pamphlet they gave me it sounded like it was better to know early for the baby's sake so they can be prepared medically. I guess I didn't think of reasons for not getting it. If you don't mind, may I ask why you are on the fence?

  33. leelee

    persimmon / 1194 posts

@kentuckygirl: I got the CF testing done. It was only $25 and the dr said that if my results turned out ok then DH wouldn't have to get it done. We didn't get it done with DD and she's as healthy as can be!

@Mrs.Ham: Welcome! I'm so glad you finally joined!

@kentuckygirl: Do you mean getting tested for carrier status? (Sorry for my ignorance, no one offered us testing because we've been tested for so many things already.) We both had it done along with testing for other disorders before we did IVF, partly because DH is Jewish and partly because if anything came up we could do PGD. It turned out he's a carrier for Canavan and the genetic counselor told me it's much harder to rule it out for me due to my ethnicity but the odds are low.

    @Mrs.Ham and @lilyann Congrats!

My nausea is finally calming down. Now it only appears early in the morning and late in the evening. Much more manageable. (Finally!)

I've got high-risk fetal health appointments this Friday. I have to drive over an hour to get to a specialist. If all test results bring good news, I won't have to return. I also have my 12-week appointment scheduled for Friday.

It's exciting to see everyone's ultrasounds. I won't have one until 20 weeks unless I request one, but I am beginning to think I should. I want to announce our pregnancy at Xmas and I think it will be more exciting if I can give my mother a picture of the ultrasound.
