@MrsBrewer: I was drinking it straight cocoa, like pure chocolate and sugar. The milk cuts it better. I think it's why I was wired last night. It helped my solo Target trip though. I just need to drink hot chocolate with milk in it. That's the only difference.

@cascademom: OH!!! gotcha!! Well, that must have been delicious though!

@MrsBrewer: It was delicious, probably not great for the baby, but tasty. I'm sticking to Swiss Miss from now on.

@Eko: It's totally crazy to me (I'm 10 weeks today), but both DH and I swear we can feel baby moving. Last time, I didn't feel DS forever, and then only when the OB pointed it out when he kicked the monitor (at 16 weeks, I think). But if I lay very still on my stomach, I feel little movements. I don't know, though.

Today went well!! My ob/gyn was so excited to see me! She said she was thrilled to see my name come up on her patient list The u/s (sonogram since it was belly?) was still blob-like, LOL. Heart beat was 179 too!
My doctor went over all sorts of genetic fetal testing (CVS, NT, etc.) and my options. What is everyone deciding to do and why?
nectarine / 2641 posts
@LindsayInNY: All that was really offered to me (low-risk, under 30) was the NT screening. We did it with DS, and will again. It wouldn't change our decision, but pictures of baby!! And, it's comforting to know as well and/or prepare if necessary.

@LindsayInNY: That is so great that your appointment went well!! I am doing the genetic testing and NT scan. The genetic testing, I am not sure exactly what else you could call it, was just blood work and everything is non-evasive. I decided to get it all done because I think it is better to be informed than be surprised about it. Knowing the results would not affect my decision about whether to keep the baby or not though. I purely did it for informative purposes.

@Jess1483: She gave me all sorts of options - from CVS, amnio-whatever to nothing to in between. I opted for the NT screening with blood work and if there's any concern we can go from there.
coconut / 8861 posts
@LindsayInNY: I've just had Materni21 and an anatomy scan coming up in January. The Materni21 takes care of the other blood tests and screening for awhile. With LO (when I was under 35), I had an NT scan, blood test, and then an anatomy scan.
The other tests are optional unless something sparks further investigation from what I understand.

@Eko: I wonder if that's the same thing I'm doing? I have to prick my finger after 10 weeks and send them some blood swabs or something? That sounds gross, LOL.
bananas / 9229 posts
@cascademom: Okay, sounds like I'm getting the <35 less-evasive package
coconut / 8861 posts
@LindsayInNY: Yeah, you'll probably have two big ultrasounds and some blood tests if everything looks good. The Materni21 was just a blood test. Right now, it's seems even less evasive as an almost 35 one with one dating ultrasound, blood test, and then anatomy scan. I'm a sucker for ultrasound pics.

@LindsayInNY: Huh. I did not get a finger pricked. I just got a vile of blood taken. They said first if something comes back where I look like I"m a carrier they would then check DH to see if he was also a carrier for the same thing. If we both came back positive for the same thing then much further testing would be done. It think it's a similar thing to the NT scan.
nectarine / 2641 posts
@Eko: Was that Cystic Fibrosis screening? We did that with DS, and since I wasn't a carrier, DH didn't have to get tested. That test only ever needs to get done once, so I don't need to be re-tested.
nectarine / 2148 posts
@Jess1483: Yeah it was the cystic fibrosis test, but it also tests for 99 other genetic disorders.
nectarine / 2641 posts
@Eko: Oh wow. I don't know if they tested me for all of those. I don't think so...
nectarine / 2148 posts
@Jess1483: They made it out like it was all just part of the same test. The nurse who was taking my blood even joked that some of the disorders they couldn't even pronounce. But they said really based on ethnicity the cystic fibrosis is what we have to be concerned about. There was one other disorder, which I forget the name of, they were looking at because DH's family is really French-Canadian.

@Eko: I have an envelope. The dr said to prick my finger, make bloody prints or something and mail it in. Then they'll have the results at my NT appt? I dunno, LOL!
It was interesting too because apparently my RE was testing me for things and I had no idea! So it made that part of things easier today because my doctor didn't have to do any of that.

@LindsayInNY: So glad you had a great appointment! I got the Harmony NIPT (non-invasive prenatal testing) that examines baby's DNA in mom's blood. I also got an extensive carrier panel, like @Eko:, though I didn't get the CF test since I got that with my last pregnancy. Then I got the NT scan, but not the bloodwork that goes with it. Usually in people <35, the NT scan is coupled with screening bloodwork. The perinatologist I saw for the NT scan said she really likes my OB's practice of combing the NIPT w/ the NT scan (and then skipping the bloodwork usually associated with the NT scan, since it's redundant)...she said she feels it is the best of both worlds. She said she worries that as more people do the NIPT, more will skip the NT testing, which she thinks is valuable. That was her 2 cents anyway.
They called me yesterday and told me my carrier results came back normal, but they did not yet have the Harmony results. The genetic counselors only work Tu and Thurs, so I guess I will have to wait until Tuesday to get those results (and find out gender)!

My appt went really well! Which makes me so happy since I had this crazy bleeding episode where it went through everything down to my sheets on my bed. It was awful scary.
Both babies are measuring right on track and my sch is much smaller ( thanks to that awful bleed). Heartbeats are 164 and 166 and she is 80% sure 1 of them is a girl. Not trying to get too excited over that. The other one is under my belly button and was being really difficult so they could only do the measurements they needed. But thank God everything is where it is supposed to be.

@Eko: I can def feel movement and when she told me where the babies are sitting it confirmed it even more!

@LindsayInNY: so glad u had a really good appt!
Because im a carrier for thalassemia my husband was tested for it and he didnt have so that wasnthe only genetic thing we had done.
I forget what it is im doing but its 2 blood draws. 1 today and 1 in 5 weeks. Its about 90% accurate and the nt scan was done today. I'm 33

@78h2o: awesome on your carrier results! Excited to find out the sex of your baby!

@BabyMats: sooo glad everything went well with your appointment and that the SCH is looking better. That must have been so scary!

@78h2o: It sounds like I'm doing the NT with bloodwork. I didn't want some more evasive unless it was really necessary. It took too long to get here!
grapefruit / 4441 posts
Yeah, the CVS and amnio are invasive and the NT+bloodwork and NIPT (Harmony, Verifi, Panorama, Materni21) are noninvasive. I totally understand not wanting the invasive tests!

@LindsayInNY: doesn't it feel amazing going back to the OB!?! Glad your apt went well. old wives tales would say you're having a girl with that heartbeat! I had my 12 week NT scan with blood work this morning. For under 35, my doctor said my risk factors were really low, and I'm not high risk so she said I'd be fine with NT. Plus, I couldn't get a straight answer whether insurance covered it if you're under 35. At the NT scan, the technician was able to tell me right there my measurements were perfect, but official results will be in next week. The RE did a bunch of genetic testing through bloodwork with my initial testing in her office so I knew I wasn't a carrier for CF, etc... And the OB hasn't repeated those tests.

@dc yoga bee: My OB was SO excited to see me back!! That really made me feel good. I've been seeing her for almost 6 years now. I'll have to check out these old wives tales!

@LindsayInNY: I believe we are doing the NT scan and bloodwork next week (I have my appointment a week from Wednesday). If the results of those are concerning, then we will do the more invasive testing.

Totally jealous of all of you who are feeling the baby move! I want to feel something so badly! I have a retroverted uterus - I wonder if that would make it harder for me to feel anything?
nectarine / 2641 posts
I got my doppler back yesterday and found the heartbeat last night (at 10w2d). I'm so happy! I'm starting to finally feel good about this pregnancy
Also, DS prefers a sister he said this morning. Haha. I'm anxious to find out the gender, but good either way. I think having a little brother for DS would be so cute, but I do want a little girl, so I'm good either way!
@Mrs.KMM: This is your first, right? I didn't feel DS move until almost 16 weeks (although once I knew what it felt like, I realized I'd been feeling him before that).
grapefruit / 4355 posts
@Jess1483: Yeah - this is my first and I am at 11 weeks today. I probably just need to be more patient!
coconut / 8854 posts
@Mrs.KMM: I haven't felt anything yet either! I'm 12+3 today. I really really want to feel the little bean move!! I even stayed really still in bed last night to try and focus to see if I could feel anything! LOL

@Jess1483: My Lo has been saying she wants a sister (when she's not responding, "Elsa"), but last night she said little brother. So who knows! I showed J this image I saw on Facebook and tried to explain to her where the baby was, but she kept saying, "No," like she wasn't buying it! https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulBumpsandBabiesAlexFulton/photos/a.887231497957328.1073741830.472766492737166/984208821592928/?type=1&fref=nf&pnref=story

@78h2o: Haha, so cute! We haven't really talked much to P about this pregnancy (we told him about the m/c, and it was confusing for him and hard for me, so we're mostly waiting for 12 weeks). But I mentioned it in passing this morning, and said sister. I'm sure he'll change his mind a million times before we know, haha.
grapefruit / 4441 posts
@Jess1483: yeah, I didn't say anything to her until 11 weeks (I think?), as I remembered you saying it was hard. I don't think she really gets it, though she does spontaneously kiss my belly and say baby.
We should be finding out tomorrow... I'm nervous about the possibility of having a boy.... it seems so foreign to me...like, what will I do with a boy?! I only had a sister growing up, and my first was a girl, so I feel like it's all I know! But I'm sure I would figure it out! Just hope baby is healthy!
