June 2015 Mamas!

My OB's office just called to move my June 12th appointment because my OB will be out of the office Thursday the 11th-Sunday the 14th. I'm so nervous I'll go into labor when she's not around I know it'll be fine, and I told DH the nurses were more important anyway, but it makes me sad--I love her! Of course, it's possible I'll go earlier/later, but it was sad to discover.

DH suggested bribing her to cancel her vacation (or whatever) with wine...I'm wondering if that would work

    @Mrs.KMM: Looking good!
@Jess1483: That's too bad. Do you know who the back-up doctor would be?

Well, I survived my glucose test today without a migraine! I felt really off afterwards, but the doctor said that is actually a good sign that I was passing (she felt it was due to my blood sugar crashing after the drink). I had a high protein breakfast this morning and ate a big meal immediately afterwards, so maybe that helped avoid the migraine. I felt like I was going to get one there for a little bit, but fortunately it stayed away. Now I am crossing my fingers that I pass and that's the end of that! The doctor did say that right now starts the baby growth phase, and that a low carb diet would help limit baby's size. Julia was born a few days early and was 8lbs 12oz, so I would love to have a little bit smaller baby... so I am going to try to take her advice and watch the carbs. The good news is that she said my diet thus far wouldn't have much of a bearing on baby's size... it is really starting now (3rd tri) that it matters.

@78h2o: There's a whole network of doctors who could be on call (including a family friend, which would be oh-so-awkward). In theory, that's true at any time, but if my doc is in town, she always delivers you.
Congrats on passing your glucose screening!

@Jess1483: Gotcha. Well, I hope baby cooperates! I go to a practice where there are 4 doctors that deliver... so I could get any one of them, depending on the day. I really like 3 of the 4 and the 4th isn't bad, so I think it will be ok. I sort of hope I get the one who delivered Julia (a male doc), but it would also be nice to have one of the two female doctors. I thought I would hate having a male OB, but the two in the practice are super, super nice and the one who delivered Julia was amazing.

Oh, I *don't* know if I passed... the doctor just thought I probably would based on my reaction. Who knows though... I'm just glad I avoided a migraine!

@78h2o: oops. Baby brain. I actually read your whole thing and still wrote that. But congrats on no migraine!

@78h2o: How does your OB's office do it? With my OB, they prick your finger and take a drop of blood right at an hour after you drink the gross, sugary drink. And then you get your results right there, immediately.

@Mrs.KMM: they did a blood draw at the 1 hour mark and sent it to a lab. That's great you were able to find out right away!

@78h2o: Glad you got through the gd test. Mine's in an hour. Like last time, I'm consuming the beverage in about 5 minutes, commuting over to the office, and then getting my blood drawn when I arrive. I'm hoping I pass. I had popcorn at 10:30pm as my last bit of food. I can't look at Pinterest without drooling right now.

@78h2o: Glad to hear that you didn't get a migraine! Sounds like you'll get good news on the test results.
    @Mrs.KMM: cute bump
@rpparker: Cute bump pic! It does look a little pointy. I've had a couple days like that.

My doctor automatically goes for the three hour GD test. That's going to be fun. I just took the day off for it and fortunately DH is around to keep me company.

I got done with my appointment about an hour ago. I got my blood draw, two pee tests (one for the regular checkup and one for a retest of a UTI), and my Rhogam shot. On my next appointment, I get the Tdap vaccine which they're doing for all pregnancies now in my office. My weight's a little high, but other than that, all is well until I hear about the results of my test sometime today.

I got to meet my new doctor again. She delivered LO 2.5 years ago when she was an attending, her first week in fact. She remembered my last name vaguely, so she sort of remembers LO's birth. I showed her pics and reconnected.

Man, I am so so exhausted! I don't know what is wrong with me. I slept 8 hrs last night and I'm still painfully tired. I feel like I am going to fall asleep at my desk. ugh! Anyone else super tired??

@78h2o: You read my mind! I've started to get really physically exhausted and I'm getting annoyed by it. lol.

@78h2o: Yep, last night I was so tired. DH and I both were because LO's been having a tough couple of mornings. I walked a lot yesterday which made everything hurt, so I hit the pillow quick last night. I think that this pregnancy plus LO is making me super tired.

Yeah, I passed my GD test!!! There was some protein in my urine, but the sample was contaminated, so they'll check it again in 2 weeks.

Is anyone else considering a support belt? I'm a teacher and on my feet a lot and by the end of the day my back is killing me. I bought two different belts on Amazon, but neither is working for me. The small one digs into my stomach when I sit, and the other one is this huge thing with a giant back brace and belt over the stomach. I can't move at all I that thing. (I don't know if it's just huge because I'm so short). What else can I try?

  18. 78h2o

    grapefruit / 4441 posts

    @cascademom: That's awesome!
@glitterboots: Any way you can sit while you are working? I never tried a support belt during my first pregnancy. I probably won't try one this time either because I think I'd find it uncomfortable. I don't even like to wear Spanx!

@78h2o: I'm trying to sit as much as I can, but I work on a large campus, and need to walk between buildings. I also planned a vacation to disney during spring break and I'm terrified of trying to do all that walking!

I've been diagnosed with varicose veins in the vulva which is as terrible as it sounds. Walking or standing too much is painful

Cross-posting to here and the nursery inspiration thread...

My parents helped us paint the nursery yesterday and we got the last pieces of furniture built! So everything is set up now and I'm just waiting on some of our decor stuff (mobile, wall hangings, etc) to arrive!

Has anyone started having BH contractions yet? I think this random cramping I have been having are those, not sure. No matter what, they are quite uncomfortable and getting annoying just having them for a couple days now.

  25. MamaB

@Eko: I think ive had a few. It's always after I do something that exerts a lot of energy, like going up three flights of stairs. My entire belly just gets tight.

Are you guys starting to have more fatigue? I'll sleep relatively good and feel pretty good when Iget up, but within 2 hours I feel like I need a nap!

  26. Eko

    nectarine / 2148 posts

@MamaB: Mine have been more sporadic and I haven't been able to notice a pattern yet. I am definitely feeling very on and off fatigued. The past two days I was fine, today I am soooo tired, even though I went to bed at 9 last night. wah wah.

@Eko: So funny, I just asked a mom of twins co-worker about BH this morning! I think I started having them recently. They're not really painful but my lower stomach/ab area gets really tight and hard? Almost like a muscle contracting? It's weird.

  28. 78h2o

    grapefruit / 4441 posts

@Eko: I haven't had them, but I didn't get them with J either. I think the closest I got to them was prodromal labor at night for about a week before I actually went into labor.

@MamaB: Definitely more fatigued. Some days much worse than others. Having sporadic issues with insomnia as well.

29w today (30w by baby's measurements). 10-11 weeks still seems a long way off, but I know it's not THAT far away. I can't wait until the weeks to go are in the single digits!

    nectarine / 2148 posts

@LindsayInNY: Yeah that's what mine are like. They only started a couple days ago and I thought maybe they'd go away, but mine are starting to stick around.

@78h2o: I am definitely starting to hit panic mode a little bit because it definitely doesn't seem like there is too much more to go!

@dc yoga bee: Look at you! So cute! My daughter would be going gah gah over all that pink... she's recently become obsessed with it. Such a girly girl!

@MamaB: We are reusing the one I got for J. They spend so much time in their beds, I wanted something with less chemicals, etc. I love how light it is...makes changing the bed in the middle of the night so much easier. http://www.rightstart.com/catalog/product/view/id/54789/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&gclid=CK_in-LCrcQCFTBo7AodxjoAhw

@78h2o: and @dc yoga bee: You are both looking great! And I love that pink coat!

No BH contractions here yet but I was super excited this weekend because I won a doubles tennis match on Friday night and lost a close one on Sunday afternoon. And I'm 27 weeks today so it feels kind of awesome!

Alright ladies I'm totally bummed! I just got back from my 1 hr glucose test, and failed. The number was supposed to be 140 and under, and mine was at 163. So now I'm going back on Saturday for the 3 hr test.

But on a good note, my placenta moved, and baby is head down! Yay!!

  35. 78h2o

    grapefruit / 4441 posts

@MrsBrewer: Ugh, that stinks! So sorry you have to do the 3 hr. I've heard though that something like 2/3 pass it after failing the 1 hr. Worst case scenario, if you have GD, it's something that's manageable and you won't have a super long period where you have to modify your diet. That's really awesome that your placenta moved and baby is turned the right way!!!

I am trying to follow a GD diet as best I can anyway since they said it might help me to have a smaller baby. My LO was close to being large for gestational age (8 lb 11.5 oz at 39w4d), so they kept sticking her foot multiple times a day to check her blood sugar... poor thing.

  36. dc yoga bee

    grapefruit / 4770 posts

@MrsBrewer: I passed my first one at 18 weeks with a 107, and just failed my second one at the normal 28 weeks with a 157! I take my three hour on Saturday. She said maybe it was something I ate the day before (snickers), but now Im worried I have it!

  37. MrsBrewer

    coconut / 8854 posts

@78h2o: I'm really hoping that I pass this 3-hr one. Although I'm nervous about it because she said there's actually 4 blood draws. One in the beginning, and then 1 each hour. At least this will get me over my fear of needles!

@dc yoga bee: I really wonder if me failing it had to do with what I ate yesterday. I wasn't thinking and have a cinnamon raisin bagel for breakfast, probably loaded with sugar I go for my3 hr test on Saturday too, hopefully we both pass it this time!!

  38. LindsayInNY

My GD testing isn't until April 6. My OB said to eat as I normally do and come in whenever but the receptionist was adamant about morning appointment and eating high protein - like an omelet. I don't usually eat those for breakfast? So I guess I'm trying to figure out what to eat or what to avoid?

  39. Eko

    nectarine / 2148 posts

@MrsBrewer: That's great that the baby is head down! My OB actually skips over the one hour tests and go straights for the three hour, which I am doing on Monday. Fortunately DH is coming so I will have some company while I wait around for 3 hours.

  40. MrsBrewer

    coconut / 8854 posts

@LindsayInNY: I bet high protein definitely can't hurt!! I would suggest not a cinnamon raisin bagel though....it didn't work too well for me
