We got scolded at my 20 something week apt for not having a pediatrician. Then, when I went to the ER on Monday at 30 weeks, they really scolded us!! I called the big office in town, and she said just give the office their name and a ped will come to the hospital for the first apt the day after birth! Easy peasy!

@dc yoga bee: really?? My OB hasn't even mentioned it yet... And my hospital just said if we don't have a pediatrician affiliated with them, that one of the on-site ones will see LO before discharge.
It really surprises me how different doctors are from one another! I don't know if it's a location thing or what.

@LindsayInNY: wow! At our birthing class we looked like the worst people because we were the only ones without a pediatrician yet! Our hospital does not have on-site peds, and will not let you go home until you confirm you have made the first apt.

@dc yoga bee: My OB briefly brought it up to us, but it was only once and was as casual as 'maybe this is something you should start thinking about'. It hasn't been brought up to me since. However, our hospital also won't let you leave until you've confirmed the first appt. too.

@Eko: My OB is the same. I am currently every 3 weeks (starting at 28 weeks, so my next appointment is at 31).

Oh my gosh! I woke up with the most terrible Charley Horse last night!! I'm SO glad that DH had fallen asleep on the couch because I probably would have scared the crap out of him. Ha! I grabbed my leg and started rubbing it and was going "ouch! Ouch!! Ouuuccchh!!!" Then I jumped up and tried to walk it off. It finally relaxed and I was able to go back to sleep, but man, that was NOT fun!

@MamaB: Those are the worst! I've been getting in the habit of using a heating pad for a couple minutes before I go to bed and it usually helps.
Warning, small vent moment: 30 weeks seems to be a real turning point. I now generally feel awful and huge all the time, which is only inflated by all the 'wow you're getting big' comments. My legs and feet are swelling so wearing anything below the waist is difficult and it's not warm enough to wear some of the more flowy summer things I bought and plan to wear closer to EDD. I am hungry all the time, but am trying to be conscious of how much weight I gain. And, my hot water broke so my small moment of being able to wash away all that makes me feel gross is temporarily taken away. Oh and to top it off my dad wakes me up with a late night text telling me that he wants to give the nickname 'Slick Willy' to my son William. (FYI, my dad doesn't like the name William I chose). Go dad, that makes me super happy.

@MamaB: Ouch! The dreaded Charlie Horse! Everyone keeps saying I snore and/or coo in my sleep. Bullocks!
@Eko: Yep, 30 weeks I started feeling blah, and by 31 weeks I asked to start working from home. I have tree trunks for legs! Try compression socks. I'm wearing those during the day (just using my regular running compression socks), and trying to drink more water. Also, I like William!

@dc yoga bee: I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that 30 weeks seems to be a low turning point.

@dc yoga bee: With LO, we interviewed ours after calling the office. His nurse recommended him to us. We've been happy ever since our interview. His daughter is a few months older than LO. He's about our age. We like him and will stay with him until we leave the city proper.

@Eko: Yep, 30 weeks on sucks. I'm 32 weeks pregnant now. I drove up to my parents' house solo for Easter weekend because DH was working on our condo. I was in tears almost the whole way because of hormones. I barely ate and it messed me up. I couldn't sleep because of anxiety about driving back with LO. Being properly fed and hydrated is key. My LO got two Peeps for being a good car companion with me. It helps that he got an hour long car nap for a 2.5 hour car ride with no stops either. I feel like I've been a mess the past week or so with getting our condo ready for selling, LO, and pregnancy.

@cascademom: Thanks! That is really comforting. DH and I have been running around trying to get projects done around our place before the baby comes. Getting the baby's room finished has been a total nightmare. Over the winter there was water damage so we've had to strip paint and re-drywall and repaint and it's exhausting. I can only imagine how hard it is to get your place ready to sell and have a LO!

@Eko: We sent LO to my parents' house for the past week during his spring break which helped a bit. It's still exhausting managing repairs ahead of selling as well as cleaning/storing. I hear you on water damage. Our neighbors damaged LO's closet with water. It's not the first time that they've damaged our walls with water. This time, they damaged personal stuff especially baby gear. They still haven't taken responsibility for it. Doing some work, then taking a break to binge watch Nashville helped a bit. It's all about balance, just hard to find.

Well all this ped talk has made me move it to the very top of my list!!
@MamaB: I had one the other night and it hurt so bad I couldn't even speak so DH had no idea what was happening! Pretty sure he thought I was in labor or something before I finally was able to communicate it was my leg!
I'm 29 weeks today and had an early morning business meeting. Walking into the building two guys stopped and held the door for me and said "Any day now, huh?" Ummm no! Way to kill my confidence right before a meeting!

Forgot to post it yesterday but here is my 30 week bump!
@Eko: and @dc yoga bee: Yes! I have started having so much swelling this week! My ankles and calves look ridiculous. It is at least comforting to hear I'm not the only one!

@rpparker: SO funny that this happened to you today! I ran into my neighbor last night, and she says, "WOW! You're SO big!! You must be due this month!!??" I just smiled and told her that I had 2 months left. What are people thinking?

I had my 32 week appointment yesterday. Baby is measuring great, good heartbeat, etc. He's still transverse right now. If he doesn't go head down by 36 weeks, they'll do an ECV on us to get him ready to go. Since I've had a vaginal delivery in the past, this would help to get another one if decides to stay breech for another month.

@cascademom: How did they tell the baby's position? were they able to tell just by feeling the belly, or did you have an ultrasound done??
coconut / 8861 posts
@MrsBrewer: Just by feeling the baby around. When you get big enough, they can just feel the baby on the outside while still in the womb. One of the doctors did that with my last pregnancy. It's kind of neat.
My doc noted that she could feel his back yesterday. I also gave her an idea of where I thought he was based on hiccups. She confirmed it for me. Right now, his head is on my lower right side while his legs are on the left of my belly all transverse. Hopefully in the next month, he'll move to head down or I'll have to get an ECV done. She thinks that he's in this position because he still has a fair amount of room. Once he gets bigger, he may just go head down out of necessity to stretch his legs up into my ribs.
I told my mom last night that I'm taking it as a good sign. He's got a month to grow and cook before we worry in the last month of pregnancy. I'm still kind of worried about going early. My doc (who delivered LO) doesn't think that I should be concerned unless I've got massive amounts of stress, I should deliver on time. I'm crossing my fingers for a June 1 delivery or later.

@LindsayInNY: With LO, I didn't know what hiccups felt like because of my anterior placenta. With this guy, they feel like pulses or heartbeats for a couple of minutes or so. After I eat, he gets them or before I do sometimes. They feel way different from the stretchy kicks or gut punches he likes to do. He didn't like when I was driving for awhile without food and punched me a few times.
nectarine / 2148 posts
@LindsayInNY: What I am assuming are the hiccups for me are definitely like @cascademom describes, like pulses. Mine generally last about a couple minutes. I don't get them very often, I think I've only had them a couple/small few times

@MamaB: Ugh, that sucks! I had a really bad one a few months ago... luckily none since!
@cascademom: My baby was transverse at my last appointment, but the doc also said her head was more down than up... so I got the impression she was kind of diagonal. I feel like she might have moved to head down since.
I have definitely started feeling really huge. A lot of my clothes are no longer fitting. I tried on my sz medium shorts, etc. from last pregnancy and I can tell they aren't going to cut it this time... I think because last time I was pregnant, it was only shorts weather during my 1-2 tri. I am going to a consignment sale tonight and I am hoping to buy some new stuff. I am selling some of my smaller maternity clothes there as well.
Besides feeling huge, I don't feel too bad. I think I'm starting to get a little bit of ankle swelling, but nowhere near what I had last time around. I hope I can avoid that extreme swelling for at least a few more weeks! I had really bad heartburn yesterday, but that's probably because I ate a bunch of Easter Sweetarts
@LindsayInNY: I think you'll know when you feel them. To me, it feels like small kicks, but the difference is that it's rhythmic. I haven't noticed them yet with this little one.
32w2d (or 33w1d based on ultrasound).

@78h2o: He's definitely transverse right now with me, all horizontal across the belly. He's got time to move in position. I can't remember if LO was in position this early or not.

@LindsayInNY: they told me she was hiccuping during my NST, but I couldn't tell any different lol.

LO was head down at my 28 week appointment (for the first time all pregnancy - she had been hanging out head up). We'll see if she's stayed that way at my appointment next week!

@Jess1483: ugh now I want girl scout cookies. I need to find one of those girl scout drive thrus.
nectarine / 2148 posts
@Jess1483: Yup! There is one about a 30 minute drive from my place. I am not sure if it is troop specific, but they turned an abandoned warehouse into a cookie drive-thru. I don't know how many of them there are, but it's surprising that something like this is taking so long to catch on. Although it took forever for them to make the cookies available to order cookies online, so there's that.

I had my first dream about DS last night. He was about 6 months, happy, bald, with a little scrunched up face. I was excited to see him. The image I had of DD in my dream when I was pregnant couldn't have been more off from her actual appearance so I'm extra curious to see this little guy.
I've had an awful cold this week. In my dream I was taking DS to the pediatrician for the same cold. I've had these violent sneezes that are really testing my bladder control. The coughs really hurt my belly too. Ready to be healthy again.
