@Eko: My little guy had TONS of hair, but no heartburn. That's better than the other way around, I suppose

I'm hoping the lil' guy has hair. That would be super cute. DH was born with a ton of hair and I was beyond bald, so he could take after him.

@MamaB: Yes! I've had them since the very beginning. I think it was partly winter/dry air/cold and partly pregnant but they have continued since it's gotten warmer too.
Here is my 27 week bump!

I had my 28 week appointment today and I need to vent. Before every appointment I psych myself up to not get excited about any feedback on weight (high or low). I know they will harp on it -I'm sure addressing the topic at each visit is mandated by the HMO- but I give myself a little pep talk and usually I let it go.
Today it really irked me. I'm up 16 lbs. Apparently I gained 5lbs in the last four weeks instead of the 3.5 they wanted. My doctor showed me my growth chart, pointed at my X, squarely at the midpoint between the low and high gain curves, and said if I continue on the trajectory I've been on the last four weeks I'll gain too much by delivery. Then she asked me to discuss ways I cut empty calories from my diet and exercise more. I just glared at her. She told me to go home and really think about it. Over a pound and a half? No gestational diabetes, I'm not overweight, no other risk factors. Just back off lady.
Ok, rant over. I'll try to think about some ways to moderately improve my diet and increase my exercise. I ate incredibly clean and worked out like I was in the Crossfit mom Olympics with my first pregnancy. I really wanted to take a more moderate approach this time since I had a pretty small, colicky baby. I'm really hoping for one of those chubby chill babies this time around. I can't believe I've already wasted this much mental energy over a pound and a half.

@MamaB: looking good!
@Corduroy: ugh. I'm sorry you had to go through that. That does seem really intense to be narked over for only 1.5 pounds. Seems like that is probably all that nurse would be doing all day! I'm up about 23lbs. so far! I can only imagine what she would say to me. ha! You are doing great mama!! That lady is obviously whacked.

@MamaB: Cute bump!!!!
@Corduroy: Wow don't even stress over it! My midwives barely even talk to me about weight. At my 28 week appt, I know for a fact that I gained 5 lbs between 24-28 weeks. Don't let them bully you!!!! If you are eating right, and staying somewhat active, you are doing everything right!
nectarine / 2641 posts
@Corduroy: Ugh. My OB has never mentioned my weight (except when I hadn't gained at 12 weeks, but she just said "that doesn't concern me.") I actually felt like I've been gaining a ton and mentioned feeling so much bigger than with my first pregnancy. She looked back at my chart and said I was in exactly the same place as with my first pregnancy. Otherwise, they've never mentioned it (and I don't know where I'm at now--I stop looking when it starts bothering me). I'm sorry they're hassling you over 1.5 pounds...that seems unnecessary.

@Eko: @MrsBrewer: @Jess1483: Thanks ladies. Looking on the positive side, baby must be REALLY healthy looking if the doctor has the time to quibble over a pound and a half of my bodyweight. That part makes me feel pretty good.

@Corduroy: I'm sorry. Mine were wishing gestational diabetes on me, and are still in shock how "perfect" my glucose levels are. Sorry to disappoint you. For them to hound you like that is party foul ugh.
We just bought our first car together. My "mommy car," is now a jeep Cherokee limited! 30 weeks pregnant today!
grapefruit / 4441 posts
@dc yoga bee: congrats on the car!!!
@Corduroy: that is so ridiculous! I would have been so pissed! That doctor sounds like such a b. I would be thrilled if I'd only gained 16. I'm about 31 weeks and I've gained 26. My doctors have said nothing - weight has only been discussed then I've brought it up.
grapefruit / 4355 posts
@Corduroy: That is so ridiculous! I've gained 19 pounds at 28 weeks and I know that I had a 5 pound increase between my 24 and 28 week appointments and my doctor didn't say a word! Even though he'd said from the beginning that he only wanted me to gain 20 to 25 pounds and I'm coming up on that range here with a couple months left to go. Sorry your OB is being insane.
@dc yoga bee: Yay for new cars! We are going to buy a Ford Explorer for our family friendly car but we're probably going to wait until a couple months after baby is here because we pay off our second car in two months and would like to have a couple months of no car payments to rack up some extra money for a down payment.

We had our first baby shower this weekend. It was in AL where we both grew up. We drove 9 hours there on Friday and 9 hours back yesterday. It was so great to see a lot of our friends and family, but MAN! I'm exhausted! Being in the car that long was miserable. DH gets major bonus points for dealing with my bitchy mood in the car yesterday. HA!
The shower was sort of a reality check for us. Like, oh my, there's actually a baby girl in there. Crazy! Time is really flying. I can't believe there are only 10 weeks left!!
coconut / 8861 posts
@MamaB: Time flying by. Yep, 9 weeks to go for me today. I think that I'm gassy today. I thought that I had a Braxton Hicks this morning when dropping off LO at preschool. It was for a quick second of tightening across the belly. I peed so much last night, so I might have been hydrated enough this morning. I'm drinking a ton of water and coconut water right now before going to early vote and pick up some long sleeve tees for LO before his trip up to my parents for spring break.

@dc yoga bee: Congrats on the new car. Buying a car is on my to-do list too.

Ugh, spent the whole day in the ER. I had sharp pain in my abdomen, accompanied by nausea and pelvic pressure. The midwife had me come in immediately, and said they were not Braxton Hicks, but more like contractions. Cue a transfer to the hospital, and all day monitoring, cervix checks (so going to decline those at my weekly apts), sonogram, IVs, and more monitoring. There was decreased fetal movement, so they did the sonogram, to see what she was up to. She was just hanging out, and has some chub on her! They estimated she is 3.3lbs, and I'm 30w3d. Baby is perfect, my blood pressure was slightly elevated, and I normally have low blood pressure. An hour of constant repeat checks, and it went back to it's normal 114/60. They sent me home with instructions to take a tylenol, and do fetal kick counts. So draining, but it hit home we need to get a pediatrician, and our car seat inspected-just in case she's early!

@dc yoga bee: Glad to hear that everything is ok!! Definitely a good idea to start getting some essentials going! I feel a little behind on doing some of those things.

@dc yoga bee: wow what a scary day for you!! I'm so glad you are both doing well though! Keep cooking baby!!
On a side note, I totally think my belly button is going to pop at some point!!
coconut / 8861 posts
@MrsBrewer: My belly button is wonky right now. It's definitely popped if not totally smoothed over.
bananas / 9229 posts
@MrsBrewer: @cascademom: Mine is nowhere near popping (yet)! I think I just have a deeper innie? I told DH I could put a big gem in it and be a Treasure Troll with my round belly, LOL! Attractive, right?
coconut / 8854 posts
@LindsayInNY: Well mine seriously just happened overnight! It's not popped yet, but at the end of the day like after dinner when I'm sitting down, my belly button looks flat now, and if I push out my belly, I can make it pop. So I have a feeling it's just a matter of time now!
grapefruit / 4441 posts
My belly button has pretty much popped already
I had a doctor's appointment on Tuesday and everything looked good. I had gained 3 lbs in 3 weeks and they were fine with that. They said I had passed my glucose test "with flying colors" and my bp, measurements, etc. were great. Yay! I got my TDAP shot and, man, that sucker has been hurting! My arm is still pretty sore. I'm pretty sure it didn't hurt this much last time I got it... must have been how they placed it.
My in-laws visited last weekend. While we were out to dinner, they asked about baby names, and my husband finally came up with some new names to consider. We agreed upon Holly Louise, Alyssa Louise, Anne Louise nn "Annie", Anna Louise, or Margo Louise. Really torn between all of them. I started a HB thread about it!
We are working on buying a king size bed... we are most likely getting one with a moveable base... I am excited as you can raise and lower different parts of the bed... I think that will help me at night with heartburn, and even just getting in/out! lol!

@78h2o: Glad that your doctor's appointment went well. My TDAP shot hurt like a b***h. I was mad too because I asked for my own peace of mind if it was going to make my arm sore and they said no. liars. I actually think I got a mild allergic reaction from it. Also, I did vote on your other thread. I'm a fan of Margo, but also like the nn Annie. Holly to me sounds like stage name. Alyssa sounds close to my name (but that's personal bias), and I am envisioning a lot of Anna names since it's from Frozen. Lastly, I am really jealous of your king bed. We bought a queen about a year ago and am now regretting not going bigger. That moveable base definitely sounds awesome.
grapefruit / 4441 posts
@Eko: I can't believe they said it wouldn't hurt!!! They are liars! My doctor totally warned me that it would hurt... He said, "We can do it this time or next... no difference either way other then when you want your arm to hurt."
Thanks for your feedback. I had the same thought about Anna... even though we'd pronounce it differently from the movie, I bet the name will be a lot more popular. We also probably wouldn't use a nn with Anna. "Annie" would be for Anne or Ann. I think my preference would be for Anne, even though my mn is Ann. My grandmother loved Anne of Green Gables, and it remind me of that. I like the nickname "Annie" because it reminds me of the character in Father of the Bride, which has always been a favorite movie. Haha... not that I overthink any of this!
Is everyone else making progress with names?
nectarine / 2148 posts
@78h2o: I'm a fan of both Anne and Annie. My girl name option was completely based on a movie character. Also, I love Father of the Bride, so that probably makes me more bias towards Annie.

@78h2o: We've made backwards name progress, sigh. I thought we were set on Everett, but DH hates both "Ev" and "Rhett" as nn's. I was like, um...one of this will inevitably happen. So it's not off the list, but we are trying to come up with others. Sigh. Maybe Brant? Or Grayden, but I'm a bit worried that's in the Caiden/Aiden/Jayden family. I think ultimately we will end up with Everett though.
coconut / 8861 posts
@78h2o: We're still mulling over names. I'm enamored with Timothy James or Timothy Blake. I also like the name James in general. Timothy is my brother's middle name. I hope that this one looks like a Timothy since that's how we picked out LO's name right after he was born.
grapefruit / 4441 posts
@Jess1483: Uh, backwards progress...that's frustrating! I feel like that's what happened to us, with Susannah in particular. I don't want Susie, yet he doesn't was Suse (sp?), Anna, or Sannah. I want to just call her Susanna, but DH says (and is probably right) that she will inevitably get a nn with a longer name like that. Hmm, what about Greyson, Brent, Trent? Olin? What happened to Holden... you didn't like it with your last name?
@cascademom: I used to date a Timothy James He was/is a super great guy. He went by TJ though. It think it would be nice to have that option.
nectarine / 2641 posts
@78h2o: I like Greyson, but DH doesn't. I have a cousin named Trent (though I LOVE the name). I'll suggest Brent--I don't love Olin. Holden is still on the list, but yes, with the last name. I like it better than DH does--it's kind of fallen out of favor with him (which is fair, Lachlan has fallen out of favor for me...)

I got my TDAP today, and it already is sore. My belly measured 30 cm exactly and the fetal HR was in the mid-130s. I asked to be swabbed because I felt like I had another yeast infection. This midwife used the speculum. That was an unpleasant surprise! She also told me that I have two varicose veins on my vulva (yay), but luckily no yeast.
pomelo / 5258 posts
I don't recall the TDAP hurting with my first pregnancy but this time the nurse warned me it would hurt really bad and was likely to get red and hot. I got it on Friday and I think it hurt for 5 days. I thought maybe it hurt so much because the nurse got in my head but after reading everyone else's reports I'm glad I got a warning.
We are nowhere on names. We have a list of about 20. I'm tempted to do a post but worried that I might not end up agreeing with the hive and being grumpy about it. Silly me.
grapefruit / 4441 posts
@Jess1483: Yeah, I love Trent but am meh on Olin. Just thought I'd mention it because it's a little unusual and I think it goes with P. My cousin has a son with that name.
@MamaB: Ugh, that sounds unpleasant! I apparently have to get swabbed next time I got back for whatever bacteria it is that they worry about for when you deliver... I didn't have it last time, so hopefully I don't this time. I think they also do a cervical check at that time. Fun, fun!
@Corduroy: post! If you are grumpy about it, maybe that will tell you something (like which name you feel most strongly about)? It only matters whether you like it though in the end!
grapefruit / 4441 posts
@Jess1483: Nolan? Just read a FB post about someone's nephew who had that name...don't think I'd heard it before.
