@Corduroy: hugs. I've had three colds this pregnancy. I hated the coughing. Luckily, the baby didn't seem to mind much. With allergy season on us, I'll be living off of Claritin for relief.

@Corduroy: So sorry! I haven't had a cold but have been feeling crappy. I told DH last night that I was so tired of feeling bad.

We are on our way to our babymoon! Just a quick overnight in Atlanta! Aquarium, massage for me, some shopping, and lounging around. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

@dc yoga bee: Good luck! We have that dresser. It didn't take us too long to put it together.

@rrparker: Have fun on the Baby moon!!

@dc yoga bee: my husband and FIL will be putting our dresser together tomorrow! It seems to be a very popular pick for nurseries!

We're planning on getting the crib put together tomorrow also, and I'm hoping to maybe start putting things away this week, which means a lot of little clothes need to be washed! Nursery furniture is making everything feel much more real!

    @dc yoga bee: gorgeous dresser!!

Our house is a disaster right now! We pulled the old carpet that was in the nursery, and the hardwood under there is disgusting. So we are going to have new carpet put in. So in the me time the crib, dresser, bouncer, and glider are all crammed in our small living room!! Hahaha

@dc yoga bee: The striped backing was what made me think it was the same - is it the smaller Hemnes? We opted for the 8 drawer, should be putting it together shortly!

So I had a scary, but THANK GOD uneventful evening. Basically, I completely panicked myself and ended up in the ER and then L&D! (Warning - this whole post is really TMI). It started when I wiped after going to the bathroom and noticed something protruding. It totally freaked me out. I got a mirror to get a better look and something was definitely not right. So then I started worrying about the baby... and got to thinking that I really hadn't felt her move all day (but then again, I'd been on my feet all day). I poked her like crazy and got zero response (which is unusual), so by that point, I was starting to really worry. So I got out my fetal Doppler and searched for a heartbeat. Nothing. Silence... which has never happened in recent months. Worst feeling ever. By this point, I had gotten myself into a full on panic... my mind racing and thinking of worst case scenarios, like a prolapsed cord and the baby having passed. I woke my husband up, got J out of the tub, and rushed to the ER. I was so, so, scared. I called my sister as I drove to the ER and she tried to reassure me, but I just had the worst feeling. When I got to the ER, they called for a wheelchair and took me immediately to L&D. I had gone to the hospital 5 min from my house, not the one 35-40 min away where I plan to deliver, so that caused some confusion and I had to register and all of that. They did it while they were transferring me though.

It took them a little while to find the heartbeat, but once they did, they said she looked great. The tech and I were both so relieved when she found it. An OB came in and did an exam and said she could see what I was concerned about. She thought it was most likely something called a rectocele (don't Google it!... kinda like a hernia of the vag that was causing things to protrude out?!? I don't know, but it scared the crap out of me!!! I am going to try to get in to see my regular docs tomorrow. They OB I saw didn't seem sure of what it was, but she said my cervix was closed and baby looked great on the monitor. She said if it is a rectocele, it might need surgical repair, but she doesn't think they'd do anything until delivery. No idea if it would mean I'd need a c-section or what. Anyway, I think I have to wait until I see my regular docs to get answers, but I am just SO SO freaking relieved that they were able to find a heartbeat and that all is ok. I have never been seen in the ER so quickly... I was home within an hour, and that was with 30 min on the monitor, just to "get a good trace on the baby". Phew!!!!!

I hope everyone else is doing well!

@dc yoga bee: love the dresser!
    @LindsayInNY: you look fantastic!

@dc yoga bee: I love the stuff you have picked out!

@78h2o: That is soooo scary! I am really glad though that they quickly saw you at the ER! The ER can definitely be a nightmare. Hopefully your OB will keep telling you some good news today.

Had another appt. today. My BP is getting a little high, but not concerning yet. I tried googling how to lower bp and such basic results, exercise and eat right. All of which I think I do. I scheduled out my remaining appts for the rest of the pregnancy and it's soooo scary that we are all soon going to be done!

I am posting pics of the baby's nursery soon. The room has been a work in progress. We had water damage over the winter, so DH had to remove paint, drywall, re-paint, etc. Plus, we don't have too much stuff yet as we are waiting for the baby shower for almost everything.

@Eko: My blood pressure climbed near the end of my pregnancy last time too. The past couple of appointments, it's gotten a bit higher. For me, that's normal. My appointments are all scheduled too. Hard to believe that I have 7 weeks left as we're getting our condo ready to sell. We don't have a nursery set up for LO #2 since everything is sort of in transition with our condo situation. I just need to get a new RNP and feeding pillow to be ready for him.

@78h2o: That's so scary! Let us know what the doctor says!

@Eko: I had an appointment this morning too! Everything was good and my doctor said that pregnancy is the one time that you want to be boring so I'm grateful for that!

My next appointment I'm doing a 4D ultrasound. Anyone else? I really didn't care one way or another but DH was really wanting to do it and his mom will be in town so she wants to come so it will be fun!

We are still waiting on furniture! We ordered it on Valentines and when they told me 8-10 weeks I didn't think much about it but now I'm super anxious for it to get here!

@cascademom: That's really reassuring! I was sort of wondering if maybe it is something that is happening naturally.

@rpparker: My doctor said something similar. This baby is already head down and the only thing exciting is my doctor is like your bp is higher than last time, lol. Do you have to pay for your 4d u/s out of pocket? I was contemplating on doing it, but I think insurances usually don't cover it.

  22. rpparker

    apricot / 363 posts

@Eko: Yep out of pocket. It's about $115 for just a short session.

I saw my doctor and she was really reassuring... both about the fact that I'd gone to the ER (which I felt bad about) and the problem itself. She said that if I had called and told her I had something protruding, hadn't felt movement, and couldn't find a heartbeat, she would have been super concerned/panicked and would have told me to be seen immediately. However, she said after looking at it that she was positive it was a rectocele (basically a hernia in the vag that can cause protrusion out) and said that it is fairly common (umm, why did nobody warn me about this?!), especially with each subsequent pregnancy. She said being on your feet a lot, carrying things, and having a BM, sneezing/coughing, etc. can cause it to happen, esp. if you already having weakened muscles due to a previous vaginal delivery. She said I should be fine though to have another vaginal delivery. She said it's possible it will need surgical repair down the road, but also quite likely that my body will repair itself after the baby is born... she said it's probably best, unless I'm having really bothersome symptoms, to wait it out. All good news! I was supposed to see her for a follow up next week, but she said I don't have to come back until 35 weeks, since everything looked good. So relieved!

@78h2o: Good news! I'm glad she was so reassuring.

I had appointment this AM also! My weight, BP and FHR were great. She felt around and said baby is head down which makes sense considering where I feel her hiccuping. Then she casually said, "Considering how ahead you're measuring, I wouldn't worry about her flipping." I was surprised to hear her say I was measurinf 34 cm instead of 32 because I've been right on track the entire time. She told me to calm down that it was no big deal. Could just be her position, or she's just had a big growth spurt and I won't grow as much over the next two weeks. Whew.

@Eko: @78h2o: @MamaB: So glad we all had good apts today!

@78h2o: Glad that your appointment went well and definitely weird that that is a common thing! I have not heard of that happening.
@MamaB: Glad to hear that you had a good appointment!
@rpparker: Funny how things work out?!

My doctor told me an interesting statistic. I was joking about how I feel like I'll have to be induced because the baby will just want to stay in here. She said that while plenty of ladies go past their EDD, only about 10% of pregnancies go more than one week past their DD.

@78h2o: Oh man, I read this on the train this morning and was thinking about you today! I'm so glad you got answers and everything is okay!

I'm sitting with my feet propped up. I had to stand the whole 45 minute train ride. Pregnancy is covered under the FDA, and priority seats are for elderly, diabled, and pregnant women. But, I'm really not trying to confront someone and be on the 6:00 news!

    bananas / 9229 posts

@Eko: I like that stat! It's reassuring at least.

@dc yoga bee: Ugh, seriously? 45 minutes?? Let me guess, everyone is busy either reading something or pretending to be asleep? I find the people who offer me seats are usually women of any age or younger males. Blows my mind.

I had my 31 week appointment today. Only gained 1 pound in the last 3 weeks so I'm up 20 lbs overall. Baby girl is still head down and has plenty of fluid. My blood pressure also still looks good so my OB wasn't worried about the swelling I've been having. Oh - and they gave me my TDAP shot today so I'm good to go there!

@78h2o: That sounds so scary but I'm glad you've gotten to meet with your regular doctor and that everything looks good!

@Eko: Apparently I'm one of the oddities - I was born 12 days past my due date! And I was a fertility treatment baby so the date of conception was definitely accurate.

    @LindsayInNY: and @MrsBrewer: You're both looking great!

I keep reading about this prolapse issues and it sounds like my doctor is correct that a vaginal delivery should be fine, but I am reading that some birthing options are better than other for avoiding further damage. Sounds like a natural birth/water birth would be best. However, that is not an option with my current OB practice/hospital. I really like the doctors and the hospital, so I'm not sure what to do. I'll probably stick with the current plan because it seems really late in the game to contemplate a big switch, but it has got me thinking...

My frantic dash to the ER on Sunday night revealed that we are totally unprepared should I go into labor early. My goal today is to pack a bag for Julia, our dog, and for my husband and me. I also need to write out instructions for taking care of LO. I do the majority of her care, so while I was being wheeled from the ER to labor and delivery, I was on the phone with my husband telling him where to find Julia's pj's, etc. Probably best to avoid that again should anything else crazy happen! I know it's still early (I'm 33w), but I was born at 34w, so not out of the realm of possibility!

    Anyone else started packing?

  35. Eko

    nectarine / 2148 posts

@78h2o: What is the option with your current OB practice if not a natural birth? I haven't started packing as of yet. I'm taking a vacation next week so the lil' guy better not make an early appearance! Also, I really don't have a lot of anything at the moment since I'm waiting for baby showers. It will be another month before I'm packed.

  36. 78h2o

    grapefruit / 4441 posts

@Eko: I'm more worried about getting things packed for my daughter I think than for myself. By natural, I meant unmedicated... my current practice is fine with unmedicated, but they don't have any birthing tubs. They do have birthing bars, etc. When I delivered my daughter, I felt the nurses there really encouraged me to get an epidural.... which was okay... I was ultimately thankful I got it last time, and planned to get one again, but some of the things I am reading suggest that birthing on your back (i.e., pretty much the only option after an epidural), is not the best with a prolapse. So I am thinking that either a) I just go with current plan of getting an epidural and deal with the outcome or 2) maybe stay with the same doctors and hire a doula/try to do it unmedicated. 3) change practices to a hospital with a birthing tub. The hospital where I ended up the other day, the one right by my house, would be the best choice in that regard, except the reason I didn't go there in the first place -- no NICU at all and no nursery. The hospital where I'm planning to deliver has a level 3 NICU, which provides me some peace of mind. Julia did not cry right away when she was born and had Apgars of 3 and 4, so we almost needed the NICU and it was reassuring to know it was there.

  37. Eko

    nectarine / 2148 posts

@78h2o: Oh I see. If I already had a LO I would have things packed for him/her already! I would probably be already packed if I could! Definitely a hard choice. I personally would not switched, but that is also based on my birth plan to try to go unmedicated and I'm not hiring a doula or doing a water birth, etc. Have you thought of other pain medication options besides an epidural? Those are options I'm starting to look into as an epidural is something I really don't want.

  38. 78h2o

    grapefruit / 4441 posts

@Eko: I don't think I'd want anything else, medication wise. Seems like the other options can either affect the baby or make mom groggy? Hmm, I don't know... the more I think about it, I want to stay with the same practice/same hospital. I will talk to my husband about hiring a doula though. That is really the only way I see myself having an unmedicated birth, unless labor is really precipitous.

  39. Eko

    nectarine / 2148 posts

@78h2o: definitely a tough choice. Maybe have DH take an expedited doula course

Is anyone having a baby shower and if so, when? It's sooo difficult not to buy anything and I am constantly checking my registry for items that are being purchased.

  40. Mrs.KMM

    grapefruit / 4355 posts

@Eko: I had my first of two baby showers this past weekend! And then a couple of my cousins are throwing me a family shower in about a week and a half so I'll be flying home to Indiana for that. I've been waiting until after my showers to purchase other things because I don't want to pull the items off the registry when people may still be shower shopping.
